Now that the plot of Dark Wing has picked up the pace, it's hard for me not to keep up with the monthly releases. So I figured I might as well post some translated scripts here. Let me know if this interests you. (I'll still release the edited pages once the volume is out, just like before.)
Saint Seiya: Dark Wing Chapter 24: The Golden Scorpion Princess
Page 1
Page 2
Soujiro: - All right, listen up, Eulalia, Vassilios. - For this undercover mission, our top priority is to not stand out. - Even here, at this academy, where there are a lot of people with a talent for cosmo, - if you stand out even a little, it's not just our target who will become suspicious, - but also the students.
Gemini Gold Saint, Soujiro
Eulalia: - Hmph! - Just leave it to me, Soujiro. - I, Scorpio Eulalia, - will thoroughly keep a low profile!
Scorpio Gold Saint, Eulalia
Vassilios: - So this is what a Japanese school looks like, huh?… ♪
Soujiro: - (I'm worried…)
Page 3
Teacher: - Today, we have a new student—
Eulalia: - My name is Eulalia! - Nice to meet you all!! - Not so fast! - Victory is mine!!
Students: - Eulalia, you're amazing! - In your studies, at sports, even your bearing… - You're great at everything!
Eulalia: - I am, aren't I? - I'm awesome! - Hahahahah!
Page 4
Students: - Wow! - So cool!
Soujiro: - (No… you stand out too much. But…?!)
Students: - Vassilios, are you free after school today? - How about we all go to a karaoke?
Leo Gold Saint, Vassilios
Vassilios: - Hahahah! Sure! - How about a Japanese anime song themed karaoke?
Students: - Kyah! - Going to an anime-themed karaoke with a hottie sounds great!! (girls) - Kyah!! Kyah!! (boys) - *teeth clenching*
Soujiro: - (He's super popular too!) - (I told them not to draw attention…)
Page 5
Soujiro: - (Should we switch tactics,) - (and intentionally stand out to lure out our enemy?…) - (It looks like it's female students who are disappearing,) - (so if Eulalia acts as bait,) - (we might be able to find out how they're being kidnapped…) - Hmm… - (Sho is colleagues with a lot of girls.) - (It would be easier if we could work together…)
Shoichiro: - (I want a male friend…)
???: - Hey, Soujiro. - What's on your mind?
Page 6
Soujiro: - ! - Charlotte?!
Celestial Spirit Star, Necromancer Charlotte
Soujiro: - So you're okay!
Charlotte: - I died, but - I woke up again in the Underworld.
Soujiro: - (The immortality of the specters…) - (So it's true that Hades's cosmo can resurrect them…)
Charlotte: - They have no intention to hide their cosmo…
Page 7
Charlotte: - Those two are gold saints, aren't they?
Soujiro: - I knew you'd figure it out… - I told them to lay low, but…
Charlotte: - Hehe… - That's not an easy thing to do. - Just look at them. - They're superb.
Soujiro: - Yeah… - (You stand out too…)
Charlotte: - ?
Page 8
Soujiro: - By the way, - did the specters come here - to investigate the incidents at this school too?
Charlotte: - That's right. - People have already been hurt. - Yoruhime and I would like to know what you think about it, Soujiro. - It would be helpful if we could talk, but… - …can those two be trusted?
Page 9
Soujiro: - I trust them… - But Demiurgos… - It's still not clear who his hidden assassins are. - Those two come from families with a long lineage of saints. - Their backgrounds are impeccable, but…
Charlotte: - Soujiro, - you believe in them, don't you?
Soujiro: - *nod* - (Yes.) - (I trust them.) - (But…)
Page 10
Soujiro: - (What if…) - (…they're Demiurgos's agents?) - (Could I…) - (…take them in a fight…?)
Page 11
Eulalia: - Sigh… - It was impossible - to check out all the club activities… - It's a classic in Japanese school stories. - I was looking forward to joining some clubs, but… - Soujiro left to have a secret meeting with an ally, - and Vassilios wandered off somewhere. - Hmm…
Page 12
Eulalia: - Piano music…? - It's delicate and gentle… - What a beautiful sound! - Ah! - It… - It might be a trap from the enemy. - I should take a closer look!

Eulalia: - I don't know the name of the song, but it was wonderful!
Lucas: - Oh… - It doesn't have a name… - I just improvised it…
Eulalia: - You're saying that was improvisation?! - Whoa!!
Page 18
Lucas: - (Too close, too close, too close! Her beautiful face is way too close!!)
Eulalia: - It was just lovely! - Like desperately trying to touch some beautiful thing that's out of reach… - …but experiencing the heartache of being unable to do so… - That's what the song felt like.
Lucas: - …
Eulalia: - What? - Do you have a problem with my interpretation?
Lucas: - N–no, no, no! That's… - It's… - (This morning…) - (I made it thinking of when I met you this morning…)
Page 19
Lucas: - (There's no way I can say that!)
Eulalia: - Heheh! - You were so confident when you were playing. - I got it!! - I know what this is! - You're "gap moe", aren't you?
Lucas: - Huh?… - Am I…?
Eulalia: - Mm-hm!
Page 20
Lucas: - (Still…) - (She's so beautiful, sincere and noble.) - (She really is lovely…)
???: - (If you want her, then take her.) - (Those arms… those legs…) - (that neck…) - (Use the threads of your cosmo to bind her…)
Page 21
???: - (It's all right, you can take everything she has.)
Lucas: - Ngh!…
Eulalia: - Hey! - What's wrong?!
Page 22
Eulalia: - This strong, corrupted cosmo… - Does it belong to a specter?!
Lucas: - Huff… huff… - ("Corrupt…) - (…"kosmo"?…) - ("Spektar"?…)
Page 23
Eulalia: - So you've shown yourself! - This cosmo… - Are those common soldiers?
Page 24
Eulalia: - I'm being underestimated!
Lucas: - Eulalia…?
Eulalia: - As thanks for your performance, - I will show you my true self… - …the true appearance of my soul!!
Page 25
Eulalia: - Hah!
Page 26
Page 27 + 28
Eulalia: - The way I normally look - is merely a mask. - But when I put on this gold cloth - and deliver justice… - that is my true self! - Be sure to remember it!!
Lucas: - (She's so…) - (So beautiful!…)
Page 29
???: - (Come now…) - (...my puppets!) - (Defeat this gold saint!)
Eulalia: - Not so fast.
Page 30
Eulalia: - I can clearly see the filthy threads - that control these girls!!
Page 31 + 32
Eulalia: - Scarlet Needle!
Puppet soldiers: - Waaaah!!
Page 33
Eulalia: - I suppose this was just a first test, wasn't it? - You're welcome to challenge me anytime! - I, Scorpio Eulalia, - will not run or hide!!

Woof, I forgot how the HYD anime/manga is so much more fucked up than any of the drama adaptations could ever be. Probably for good reason since Domyouji assaults Makino early on and forces a kiss on her while pinning her down to the ground. I actually never saw this scene in the manga before so I was shocked to see that his hand was actually about to move up her skirt (or at least the drawing sure made it look like it) before stopping himself because she was crying.
Up until yesterday, I had only seen this scene in the anime where they stopped at Domyouji “just” ripping the top button of her shirt off and nuzzling her neck with his nose. Even back when I first watched it when I was young, this scene was very disturbing to watch and the way the anime portrays it definitely makes it clear that you’re supposed to be scared of Domyouji, whether from the animation, the suspenseful music, or the way there’s a shadow looming over him. Just before this scene, we see Domyouji go on a violent rampage and several characters comment that this is the most violent he’s been and there’s a scary look in his eyes that is not normal. Ione of the F4 even comments that it feels like he could kill someone whenever he gets that look in his eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, we’re supposed to understand that what he does is terrible but it’s also a result of Domyouji snapping/he’s not in his right head. Does this make it ok? Oh definitely not. But I can see why the mangaka thought that she laid out enough groundwork so that this scene could show just how dangerous and fucked up Domyouji can actually be while still leaving room for him to not be completely irredeemable. All that on top of 90s manga/anime being full of Tres Problematique tropes, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the thing is, the anime/manga does a good job of not romanticizing/excusing this behavior…until it doesn’t. Like I said, up until he actually forces a kiss on her, it’s very scary and you feel the fear Makino is experiencing as she is desperately trying to run away from him. But then when we get to the kiss, it’s drawn in a way where her hair is splayed out romantically with soft shading and he has a gentle look on his face. Makino even comments later on that even though his grip on her wrists was strong, his kiss was actually very soft and gentle and I’m sitting here reading this as an adult going “giiiiiirl.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What’s interesting to me about this scene is that Domyouji may be violent but he’s never been shown to be predatory or dangerous in a sexual way. In fact, his character is always teased for how inexperienced and dense he is about sexual matters. At most, they just show him having the usual teenage boy pervertedness. But nothing remotely sexual like with Soujiro or Akira’s characters. You get the impression that he wouldn’t even know what to do. So this definitely felt oddly…adult (for lack of a better word) for Domyouji.
Anyway, why do I still ship Domyouji and Makino like mad even with all of this problematic behavior? Well first off, this is fiction. Not that that excuses all things, but I’m willing to accept more problematic/troubling relationship dynamics in fiction than in real life. Also, there are much worse things about Domyouji than this one scene that make him an awful love interest and require retribution/redemption/paying for his past sins. This is just one incident that shows he’s always one step away from becoming a wild beast that knows no reason and does not know when to stop from going too far. But that’s also part of his character arc/growth. Of course I would prefer that Makino did not have to get assaulted as part of his character growth but you can’t always get what you want. I mean one of the arcs deals with how he almost beat a guy to death in the past so uh yeah…he has a lot of things to make up for to even become a redeemable human being/worthy of being Makino’s boyfriend. And I think HYD does a good job of redeeming him so that’s why I still ship them. But yeahhhh, 90s mangas/animes stay being problematic!

Castling Your King: An Akira Kurusu/Goro Akechi Rec List
“I’m glad I found you...to paraphrase Hegel, advancement cannot occur without both thesis and antithesis.”
fics may be based on the canons of either Persona 5 + Persona 5 Royal. Check notes and tags of fics for warnings and ratings, esp for violence, dark topics etc.
One-Shots   (includes canon, canon divergence, future fics, and AUs)
all we inherit by Mertiya Akira visits Akechi’s Palace, and events play out differently.
warm data by scionblad Goro Akechi was seventeen years old and fond of biking, high-class food, and bouldering. It felt a very mechanical way to get to know a person, like a checklist of the things that made them up. Bullet Caught Between Your Teeth by npcx  Akira's forgiveness is unrelenting. Akechi's heart can hardly keep up.
Start Again At Your Beginnings by joishbishmyoga   The thing about having given your heart, your service, and most of your soul to your country, Soujiro thought, mouthing at an unlit cigarette as he sat uselessly by Akira's bedside for the second night in a row, watching that the kid kept breathing through his concussion... The thing was, you either broke, or you learned to appreciate the simpler things in life. Fine coffee. Fresh curry. Regular customers.
Old friends.
ashes and ruin by SpookyVern An evening conversation that traveled into Kurusu's attic, ruined by one sentence.
"We know you know about the metaverse.”
furball by hamnet Goro finds a kitten. Despite everything his logic tells him, he keeps her.
Spring Cleaning by deplore  Goro’s hair grows longer and his feelings grow deeper as he waits for Akira Kurusu to return. Emotions gain a peculiar, foreign dimension to them, like he's slowly being filled with the things that he previously lacked. Or maybe it's more that he's regaining things that he once tried to throw away: his dreams, his passions, his opportunities, all burned to crisps and used as kindling to keep the hell-fire in him fierce and unyielding. a multitude of deaths, and a world for us alone by deplore  Post-canon AU. Goro and Akira go on a trip together, and Goro has bad dreams. Goro breathes in deeply and interlaces his fingers. “The night sky,’ he begins to say, and then lets the subject trail off with no action behind it, letting that trite, overused line go unfinished: the night sky is beautiful, which really means – I think you're beautiful. I love you.
get lost tracing my steps back by the hyacinth girl (arguendo) Favors exchanged after a juvenile court hearing.
Places, everyone by neonsign Because where Akira Kurusu goes, Goro Akechi follows. Everyone knows the rivalry, even if their knowledge is limited to what’s been in the papers; a game like this draws attention from those content to sit on the sidelines.
With Mournful Tread by Yustiel   There's Akechi, bandaging his wounds in the dusty summer evenings with gentle hands; Akechi, reading the English aloud for his sake; Akechi, with undue viciousness, tearing at the shadow that had threatened them.
"Don't worry," he said. "I won't let them touch you." But oh, they're not the ones he's afraid of. (New Game+ AU)
and it looks so very much like me by Rethira felix faces him, leans down and murmurs, “i don’t mind if you call me goro, amamiya-kun” (the velvet room has a new attendant)
Felled by izanyas At the dawn of their doomed partnership, in a moment of weakness, Joker gives Akechi a chance.
How to Build a Temple by sakuraba Falling in love -- not the how, but the where. Or: Akechi Goro finally gets something he's desperately been lacking.
i can put on a show by SpineAndSpite “Were you this hard when you killed me?” the vicious mouth asks.
skeptic by chashmish Maybe it’s just a born characteristic of Kurusu’s, Goro thinks idly. To be so cynical.
playing with ghosts by dcuros Late at night, Akira brews a particular blend, sets up the chessboard and chases the ghost of Akechi Goro.
the devil’s details by relationshipcrimes When Akechi is sentenced to six years in prison after Shido's change of heart, Akira makes sure to stay in touch.
the love exchange by relationshipcrimes After a late-night accidental kiss at Leblanc, Akira and Akechi wind up in something that could be a casual, low-stress relationship, except that Akechi is incapable of doing anything casually and without stress. As always, Akira has to do everything around here.
when your eyes say it by lesbianedgeworth Akechi exhales sharply. Annoyed. Better then soft any day, if he matched this with pity Joker would throw himself off a roof and be done with it— he meets Joker’s eyes as abruptly as he decides to do anything. “You like me. Is that right?” in the aftermath of february second, akechi and joker have some things to say.
it’s not the waking  by theexistentiallyqueer  There’s something hot and thick sitting in his throat almost choking him, something heavy and full of furious grief. You should know the moment when you first fall in love. (Persona 5 Royal spoilers)
the second hand of fate ticks closer to home by theexistentiallyqueer   “Hey,” Akira says, catching Akechi by the sleeve of his jacket before he can leave. “Stay for a bit.”
He doesn’t look to see if Akechi stays; he can hear that Akechi stays, because the door doesn’t open and the bell doesn’t ring. Akira goes behind the bar to grab a canister off the shelves on the wall and make them both coffee. (Persona 5 Royal spoilers)
To err is human by Katraa  to forgive, divine. It’s a matter of perspective. At least that’s what he tells himself so he can sleep at night. His sleep isn’t sound, instead riddled with nightmares and roaming hands. Hot whiskey eyes and bony fingers make themselves at home in his mind and he can’t escape. There’s a bomb, ticking away, set to explode – or perhaps implode? – in less than a month and yet he can’t help himself from wanting to play with the wires.
life expectancy by futuresoon It's remarkably dull, knowing you aren't real.
ambiguity aversion by lady_peony *disclaimer that this fic was written by me, but i think it’s good so /shrug "Give him back," Crow hisses, taking a single step forward. The venom in his voice cracks through the air like a bullet. or: Goro Akechi puts his negotiation skills to the test.
irregular resolution by lady_peony Akira has dreams sometimes; Akira tips back his head, sets it more deeply into the chair behind him. "Stars can move." He brings up a finger, rotates it slowly in the air, one full circle, and another. "Binary star systems. Because there's more than one...their paths change, because the other exists."
Fold In by SomewhereFlying  As long as Goro was still around, the Thieves would be in danger - if not from him, then from Shido - and that was something he could no longer bear. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is run away.  What You Don’t Know by SomewhereFlying  Akira was supposed to be keeping his nose down during his probation at Shujin, but sometimes things don’t work out the way you expect. Sometimes you befriend the other misfits in school and start working to expose an abusive teacher for the scum that he is. Hey, it couldn’t be helped - these things happen.
Sometimes you have to distract the student council vice president by making out with him. These things happen.
leave me something to remember you by by gesugao  Akira tries to save Goro from the world, other people, and himself.
cognitive by D_Maradine (Warnings for major character death) In the Engine Room, Akira orders a forceful Palace exit in attempt to save Goro. However, the one who comes back to the reality is not him, but detective's cognitive version, thrown into real Goro's body. And he doesn't really get how this "real world" works.
uncertainty principle by akc In the silence, Akira asks his ceiling why things turned out this way. His ceiling does not answer. (goro and akira are childhood friends au)
Between Scylla and Charybdis by KivaEmber Akira has a near-fatal encounter in Maruki's Palace. Akechi... barely takes it well.
It’s a Date by KivaEmber Goro stared at his reflection in dismay. It didn’t compare to Akira, but at least he looked like he put some effort in. Fine, his rival can have the win in presentation, but this competition was just getting started. Goro will sweep him off his feet and turn him into a blushing, stammering mess by the end of the night. He will not lose.
Cover Your Tracks by prosodiical   On the day Goro Akechi first entered the Metaverse, a stranger followed him in. A little more than two years later, Akira Kurusu returns to Shibuya, accidentally stumbles into another Palace, and meets a talking cat.
Place All You’re Given in Infinite Trust by chashmish Inexplicably, Ren dropped to one knee. Goro's mouth fell open. "What the hell are you doing? You don't know who's been walking on that floor. Or where their feet have been." Ren paid no mind to Goro's words or to the other shoppers, who were starting to gape at the two of them. He looked solemnly at Goro. Then he said, "Will you marry me?"
Epic Fics
Crooked Hands by coolkidroland In which Akira absolutely does not learn to leave well enough alone. (alternate title: A Fork in Want of a Light Socket). Part of a series. Followed by Goblin Men and The Reed Which Grows Nevermore Again.
an all encompassing guide on how to stop the snow from falling by akc After living quietly by himself for nearly two years, dead in the eyes of the Phantom Thieves, Akechi Goro makes the decision to step into Leblanc unprompted to face them all, unaware of the tumultuous unfolding and unfurling that will come along with it.
long goes into the night by confidantes Ren & Goro find each other again after ten long years.
take me to church by cruellae  “I’m going to give you the one thing you want most in the entire world. The one thing your heart yearns for, even if you don’t realize it.” Goro draws in a sharp breath at the sight of the familiar silhouette in his kitchen, long and lanky with tousled black hair. It’s been more than a year, but he still hasn’t forgotten the way Akira moves. Akira turns and smiles, his messy dark hair falling over his forehead, his eyes a brilliant sunflower yellow.
marigolds by colbulb Akechi meets a mysterious being chained to a door after death and gains a second chance.
Interobject by howitleft It is June when Akira is ambushed by someone wearing the face of Goro Akechi claiming to be from next year, sent back to the past by Igor to help undo a bad decision.
Dreaming of Butterflies by heavymoons Akira wakes up, his mind bursting with visions of the future and his heart burning with resolve … only to discover that he hadn't needed to worry about it at all. (I.e. NG+ maxstats!Akira might be an anxious, mildly depressed wreck but he has never looked this good.)
people like you, people like me by cybersquatt I know about the Metaverse and what you are, he sometimes thinks about dumping the hard truth onto Kurusu, just to see that notorious poker face off guard at least once. You better stop this hero act before you ruin us both. As if he's not the one driving them off the road. (Persona 5 Royal setting)
killed with kindness by veterization Goro can't quite figure out why so many people keep acting like they're his friend. (Or: the one where the Phantom Thieves decide to know thy enemy, befriend thy enemy, love thy enemy, crush on thy enemy).
it takes a village by shouldbeworking Each passing day brings new challenges, and each passing day brings his plan closer to fruition.
So, who cares if he keeps remembering things that never happened? So what if there are eight Phantom Thieves, rather than the three he expected? And so what if their leader has proven surprisingly adept at avoiding him? None of it matters. A new game is starting, and Akechi Goro is going to win it.
a shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn by theexistentiallyqueer Goro spent three years in juvenile hall, unmoored and deserted on a metaphorical island with no ship in sight. He never planned for a future beyond ruining the man who ruined him. (The funny thing about futures is that they have their own way of finding you.)
you will not take my heart alive  by myotinae Kurusu leans forward and says, “Look. You do deserve to feel this bad. I’m sorry, but you do. But you don’t deserve to be alone while you deal with it. So I’ll leave now if you want me to, but I’m coming back tomorrow. All right?” Goro wipes his face with his sleeve and glowers at him: Great Akira the Moralizer, who knows exactly what everyone else deserves. Perfect, beloved Akira. Once More With Feeling by beesandtoes Akira's determined not to let Akechi die this time. Akira's determined not to let Akechi die this time. Akira's determined not to let Akechi die this time. Akira— well, he'll get it next time for sure.
the cognition by relationshipcrimes You are the captain’s cognition of Goro Akechi, who you have just murdered. Next on the list is Joker.
Nine Lives by KivaEmber After dying for the second time as Maruki's Ideal Reality crumbled, the last thing Akechi expected was to wake up as a cat, in the past, and get saddled with the impossible job of trying to rehabilitate his past self.
or; Joker gets Morgana. Akechi gets... his future self in cat form.
the first step to find your way is to mark where you have been by futuresoon (Akechi’s got a Palace, sort of, and Akira’s the only one who can enter it. Now he just has to figure out what he’s supposed to do in a Palace with no Treasure and no Shadow--and if his tag-along even wants him to see what’s in there.) So Close Your Eyes Close With My Dreams by LovelyLotus Ren arrives a few days early to Tokyo and is promptly run over (via bicycle) by a certain detective. This accidental meeting sparks an intense friendship that neither boy is willing to let go of, even as forces begin conspiring to set them against one another. Whether it’s Masayoshi Shido or the God of Control, nothing in hell is going to divide Joker and Crow. Trickster’s Maze by TwilightKnight17 In the aftermath of a year from hell, Akira is fine. Yes, he's been separated from his friends, is home with his distant parents, and hasn't heard from the boy who promised to come back to him, but he's fine. Sure, he's sleeping more, and his friends don't text back much, but he's fine. He always knows what to do.
Everything is fine.

Youtuber AU (Harem)
Welp, this is based off of my future dream of ‘if i ever got more involved in YouTube’ XD I hope everyone enjoys! because I just think I’d be casual with YouTube, you know? but anyways, here we go!
Tumblr media
>> This AU would start if I had proper equipment and time, and would be alive since middle school. It was mostly to privately post shitposts and videos of my friends and the things I do to them that make me annoying X’D.
         - I filmed secretly in school. If i wanted to do it out in the open, it’s always with the teacher’s permission. Either that or it’s the perfect place for posting school project related stuff :D
>> After graduating 8th Grade, the Youtube channel was dead for two years since I got preoccupied with starting High School ^^;; During the time, I eventually forgot it existed.
☆ That’s when until near the end of Sophomore year, while allowing myself to suffer under schoolwork, my love for anime and whatnot motivated me to create a channel! And that’s when I found and polished my old channel and privately stored away the middle school videos; renewing it!
☆ My official Youtuber name becomes “[}| AniMania |{]” (The emoticons will come in later on)
☆ @lovesick-au-lait would be one of my greatest friends and eventually become my Youtube partner :D She also runs her own really nice channel where she posts Speed drawings/paintings of her art <3
☆ Most of my content is related to anime, manga, and franchises I’m into ^^ I do skits, fandubs (of comics, specific anime scenes, or even fanfiction readings XD), and various discussions on the things I love. Very rarely do I do a vlog tho uwu; Showing my real self is, at first, uncomfortable.
And now, we move on to my bois~ <3
Izuku Midoriya:
🍀 Izuku tries to post a video biweekly. Other than that, it’s not as much impulsively.
🍀 He mostly focuses on analyzing heroic figures! Not just from Marvel or DC or other fandoms, but also in real life as well! It’s incredible how in depth he does his research and how he doesn’t leave out other opinions.
🍀 Other videos consist of training videos, or training how to do certain moves because HE BUFF A F LIKE LOOK AT HIM. *insert eyes emoji here*
🍀 Sometimes Finnian (Black Butler) shows himself in videos as he’s Izuku’s ‘assistant’ in moving props around c:
🍀 He collaborates with me not only because he’s a sweetheart but his vice is so soothing and cute it makes the female viewers giddy.
🍀 We both met up when he was still in middle school. I supported him all the way in helping him grow and push forward.
Yoosung Kim:
🐶 He’s become one of the most prominent gamers on Youtube. Sure he doesn’t post as frequently due to his up and coming job as a Veterinarian, but he still makes his videos worth it.
🐶 He often collaborates with Soujiro’s channel, especially when playing either LOLOL or Elder Tale (he still would rather play the former)
🐶 Of course, his content is mostly gaming! Especially MMORPGs (they take your soul, but the pain is so g o o d and irresistible.) However, he is up for trying new kinds of games and different genres :D
🐶 I sometimes game with him too! But seriously, there are compilation videos of him when he’s gaming. From ‘hilariously silly’ to ‘hilariously raging’. Sometimes, there is no in-between.
🐶 Since we share the most hobbies with each other, he is a guest star in my videos the most! Especially since he’s such a cutesy guy, like a k-pop star sometimes.
🐶 We met when  began rebooting my channel. Because I reached a subscriber milestone, I was going to buy an actual RPGMaker program and I bumped into Yoosung. (My boy--why are you outside at flipping 6 AM in the morning?? ??)
Soujiro Seta:
⚔️ He is also a fellow Youtube gamer, mostly focusing on Elder Tale, along with playing with Yoosung, Shiroe, and Naotsugu! He does play other MMORPGs but it’s just not the same ^^
⚔️ I have a headcanon since he’s a samurai in Elder Tale, maybe he has potential talent to handle real samurai swords in real life? Like how to polish them, sharpen them, and how to wield them? It’s pretty epic. He’s called the ‘real-life samurai’ through his journey in indulging himself in that C: <3
⚔️ Other than that, he also co-hosts on my channel since he barely posts anything else on his own ^^;
⚔️ He works in my skits very frequently XD Because he’s like a shoujo manga protagonist, at the very least a character from any shoujo thing lol
⚔️ He is actually my comment patrol. After a day or two of posting a video, he checks on the comments I get. let’s just say... sometimes they’re not so good for the other people. :p
Isami and Takumi Aldini:
🍝 Uh they run a cooking channel c: It’s pretty obvious since they attended Totsuki Academy. I’ll just say after the whole rebellion Arc in the manga, graduating came and was almost smooth sailing. They decided to help out at Chef Shinomiya’s at one of the branches in America for the next few years!
🍝 Of course most of their videos are Italian dishes, but with their creative, experimental minds, they make the crappy foods of America they hear about, make it gourmet and healthier, and just much more appealing.
- They helped saved lives o__o Seriously.
🍝  They’re the most popular cooking channel because not only do they live up to their credentials, they’re also flipping handsome and charming (but with the viewers, that applies to just Takumi sometimes).
🍝 I first met them after I was inspired to attempt to cook a dish they’ve already made for my channel milestone! Me and @lovesick-au-lait uhhh... let’s just say survived and the food was edible ^^; Then, i decided to try and cook for something for dinner, and Isami, and eventually Takumi as well, bumped into me when I was trying to look for a good box of pasta.
🍝 Now they sometimes invite me onto their channel to be their taste tester! Our banter knows no bounds.
Finnian:
🎍 Finnian doesn’t have a channel, but he loves to assist with props and preparations!
🎍 He definitely loves being the camera man ^^; though we had a few incidents where he’d break a few (or break things during videos pfft)
🎍 He’s a part of skits and the occasional comic dub because he’s so cute!! He tends to play the best friend role, but then again he’s the best friend that gets some ;D
🎍 There are actually compilation videos of him and his screw ups on camers XD just all of his hilarious moments in general, adding on by the year.
🎍 For the sake of having a more enthralling American experience, he’s my roommate in the house as a condition a part of the study abroad contract.
Armin Arlert, Peter Parker, and Death the Kid:
📑 A very unlikely trio! They run a channel together c: Sure it has its occasional setbacks and whatnot, but in the end, they make things work.
📑 Strict video uploading times; never misses the mark on its precise hour and day. You can think Death the Kid for that ^^;
📑 They run an educational channel ^^ But almost all facts or things you’ve never once thought to be well-informed about, they bring it to the table and make it so intriguing! It certainly is better than the school textbook sometimes c:
📑 Armin and Peter definitely handle the science and mathematical aspects. Death the Kid can do the same when the two aren’t available, but he focuses on History and Literature and the other Arts. Classy.
📑 And of course they take part in my channel too! But they also help me out with vlogs!
💗 Milestones are definitely switched up, one idea for every occasion! It has all of my lovely boys (or however many can show up) being there behind my camera too!
💗 Live streams are sometimes a hilarious mess. Especially some of the comments I’d get, usually pertaining to flattering me or one of my lovely men. Let’s just say, many blunt objects had to be put away to reisst temptation of irreversible consequences lol
💗 Going to cons is also an adventure! But hey with our own expertise areas, it definitely is worth the experience.
💗 It was actually difficult coming together to form a romantic cohort only we could pull off. But with  the help of other youtubers @shiroe-is-my-baby and @self-shipping-angel, it all works out when we’re able to reveal ourselves, with pride c:
💗 Then our videos become popular for another reason: for the multitude of shipping moments.
💗 Youtube has never been this fun and I would want to continue with them for as long as it does!

Not sure what sort of AU this is - but I think I was writing this in a mindset of “Notice Me Senpai as is, but everyone suddenly has gems.” ... Whoops. Not quite an In-Steven-Universe AU...
Izumi: His gem is sodalite, known to foster creative writing. It’s located on the back of his right hand. It glows when he is inspired, and dulls when he’s hit Writer’s Block. Izumi is very good at getting his poetry published in collections, and has lots of followers on his poetry blog.
Yuu: Yuu’s got emerald on his stomach. He truly loves and cares about others, no matter what. Although, his almost-unparalleled strength can lead to back-breaking hugs... but! He has enough love and compassion to go around and help others in every way.
Ren: Ren has pearl on his chest. He doesn’t think much of his gem until he tries to sleep face-down. In actuality, Ren’s pearl helps him care for himself, and teach others how to love themselves if they come to him with troubles. He doesn’t realize it himself, yet.
Touya: On his right hand, Touya’s got citrine. After lots of research, he’s deemed it to be a creative stone and his favorite color of all time. It promotes his ability to see the world in a unique way, and keep him calm during stressful situations or paintings.
Hajime: Hajime has ruby on his heart! He’s an open and caring figure with lots of energy and passion, and won’t hesitate to let others know about it. When he plays taiko drums, he almost always removes his shirt to make sure his gem can be seen. He thinks that the gem gives him his constant passion and courage - and he would be right.
Reiji: Cinnabar is known as a stone of fire, and Reiji takes that to heart - literally! It’s right on his chest, and he has no shame pursuing any experiment that strikes his fancy. He’s got a knack for any science that involves fire and explosions, often leading to some awkward and complicated situations.
Shun: Shun is very good at getting into the “flow” when he plays video games - and this is because he draws on his fluorite. It helps him achieve perfect clarity and focus. This isn’t just limited to video games. He can also do it on his homework or when exercising, making him a grade A student.
Souma: Souma’s mind is always running with new recipes and experiments. His sunstone is part of this, bringing life to his recipes and making them delicious and near-revitalizing. While he has a soft spot for baking, Souma’s cooking is more famous and recognized throughout the school - which is fine by him!
Wakatoshi: Wakatoshi’s got agate on his left arm. Quiet unless provoked or talked back to, Wakatoshi will do anything to protect those who are weak or whom he cares about. He believes the strength of his gem gives him the power to do that, and keeps him aware of everything while fighting.
Makoto: He has Jasper quartz - a balancing gem that allows him to work through any troubles that come his way! Makoto’s gem is centered on his forehead, and he is known as a perfect student - excelling in sports, academics, and social life!
Tokiya: Tokiya and his lapis lazuli was just the thing the drama club needed. He bears it on his right hand, and is noted for balancing out relationships and friend groups he is in. Able to chorale a rowdy class or group of actors, Tokiya has a natural charisma that captures people when he talks and smiles.
Akira: Akira loves the jade on his left arm. He’s quiet and really doesn’t seem like the type to be filled with lots of excitement. If you ask him, he will say the most excitement he gets is cheering for the school teams or seeing his flowers bloom. He believes that his jade is what keeps him healthy and is what keeps his plants growing.
Soujiro: On his forehead, in plain view, is hematite. Soujiro is able to keep calm and rational in all situations, and has a clear discipline when he works. This discipline has put him in class A and improved his calligraphy many times over. He is able to master any skill and understand it when he observes other masters at work, leading to a natural talent at most arts.
Souh: This butler’s warm nature most likely comes from his amber, a stone that both his parents possess and passed onto him. From their shared power, he thinks it’s why he makes an impeccable butler - untouched in skill and intuition. He’s also incredibly caring and concerned for the wellbeing of others.
Touru: Touru has malachite on his forehead. He’s a natural-born leader with an air of confidence in everything he does. He looks out for younger students and works hard to be a role model for them. Rarely does he get upset or angry - but when he does, it bubbles over and can get nasty.
Hideki: CIear quartz is the predominant stone on his forehead. While he often hides it with his hair and big glasses, the stone glows when he’s working hard, keeping him focused. At times, it keeps him too focused, and it’s hard to get him out of the zone when he’s working.
Suzuki: He’s got sapphire on his temple, and has to make sure the headsets he buys don’t cover up his trademark gemstone. While he seems excitable, active, and jumpy on stage, Suzuki is actually incredibly focused at all times. His discipline as a musician as seen him this far, and he’s gonna take it all the way to the top!
Yamato: When you watch Yamato play guitar, you can’t help but notice the way his onyx sparkles in the stage lights. A master of instruments, Yamato doesn’t let his prodigal status keep him from pursuing his practice and keeping his skills sharp. He wants to keep making music and make himself a better musician each and every day.
Kyouya: Kyouya has smoky quartz on his forehead. An organized, capable, and dependable teacher, Kyouya’s advice is often sought-after, since he always seems to know the best course of action for even the most stressful situations. When he’s overwhelmed, however, he might have trouble focusing, which is why he goes to Haruka’s office to relax.
Takeru: Agate in shades of brown on his stomach. He is the person who grounds others if they are going through a difficult time. A great partner alongside Kouhai-chan when it comes to resolving conflict or helping people.
Haruka: Purple amethyst on his stomach. He is an incredibly calming presence and uses it to ease students in times of stress and when he’s working with them. The healing properties of his amethyst can also assist with physical injuries, but this takes much of his energy.
Jéan: He usually leaves his collar open because of the Carnelian on his neck. It’s in view when he’s working to romance ladies, and the eye-catching glitter exudes a certain charm that makes him irresistible. However, the side-effect is that if he isn’t searching for a date, and forgets to cover it up... people are still drawn to it.
Ai: Rhodocrosite is in full view on his heart! The pink color matches his hair, and he calls it a representation of both self-love and outward love. He works hard to make sure that people are happy with each other and themselves, and his very presence is sometimes enough to bring that about.
Hinata/Sousuke: The two twins share Snowflake Obsidian, with Hinata’s on his left hand and Sousuke’s on his right. They are often joined at the hip and support each other when going through difficult times. If one is sad, you can expect the other to be at their side as soon as they are able.
Kei: Tiger Eye on - you guessed it - his eye. Kei’s father believed it would impact his ninja skills, but he has not let it hold him back. He believes the stone keeps him balanced, and lets it empower him through his work. While he wears an eyepatch over it during training so the glint doesn’t make others aware of his location, he leaves it off during school. Some people have even mistaken it for his real eye.
Takahiro: Takahiro has a diamond on the back of his head. His father often assigned a guard to protect him due to the gem being in such a vulnerable spot, but now, Takahiro has faith in himself to protect it. With the high endurance of his gemstone, Takahiro is able to push himself forward. Hardly anything breaks his spirit and drive.
Katsuo: Katsuo has ocean jasper on his right arm. He’s mellow in the classroom and does all right on homework - but when in his element, water, he becomes a completely different person. Just being in the water makes him more joyful and positive, and it’s where he loves being the most.
Ryuu: Ryuu has a sliver of green peridot on his left hand. He believed he never suited his stone until high school. He was constantly jealous of better actors and wasn’t good at forming relationships with others. It wasn’t until Kurou helped him meet others and get over his jealousy that he began to feel like he could control his emotions and be more open with others.
Kurou: Kurou has apatite on his heart, leading to a wealth of energy and ability to focus on his dreams and goals. It’s why he’s so good at acting, script writing, and directing - but only if he puts his mind to it and focuses on it! He loves his constantly working mind and refuses to drop an idea once he’s made it up.
Viktor: There is a piece of moonstone on Viktor’s neck. His former gemstone is missing, but only his immediate family and Kyouya are aware that it is gone. The gemstone is a representation of how he has much to work through, coping with his newfound powers and his lengthened lifespan.
Itsuki: Seleite is known for it’s skill at spirit summoning - so when Itsuki learned that was the stone on his leg, he was surprised. It’s a small white stone, barely noticeable against his skin. His reputation as a ghost is credited to this, and only further enhanced when people see him and look again, only to find he has “vanished.” In reality, he’s still there - you’re just missing him.
Jae: His boundless energy and self-esteem is part-learned, but Jae credits the bloodstone on his chest as the main source of his energy. He draws on it when breakdancing and performing on stage, and claims it’s what keeps him in time with his heartbeat when he performs.
Seiichi: Seiichi is able to bring down those who are frustrated or upset, and able to see any idea he thinks up through. Both of these are traits of zircon, the stone on Seiichi’s forehead. He often finds himself comforting other members of the Robotics club who are having trouble, and helps them finish their projects.
Kouhai: Rose Quartz on her heart! The location of her gem means her love and respect is always filled to the brim, and she works hard to find outlets for it. She teaches people to love, and in times of conflict, can bring about peace.

he offered her a small package, and inside was a video game that he noticed futaba pining over for some time. "Here you go. I've been meaning to give this to you."
HERE IN LEBLANC FINGERS ARE TYPING AWAY   , scrolling down on the latest updates. seems like things are starting to heat up with that phan-site /// it’s pretty cool ///. who would have thought a BORING NPC was the mastermind behind it. light cackles emitted throughout the cafe, leaving a confused old man to check up on things back at home. ‘ okay dad!! ’ is all the hermit said ( HMMM I WONDER WHERE HE’S AT ... ); her KEY ITEM was no where to be found. going out for a task is one thing but it’s already drawing close to the evening, the sun’s setting for a good slumber. still no trace of a message or call ... calm down, futaba. nothing happened to him ... he’s someone who could handle himself. the fool he truly is but curling up with a lowered lip won’t solve anything --- he wouldn’t appreciate it either. those worries subside from a door spreading wide open. words are halted to take a breather, rest her mind at ease, enough to marvel before this wonderful gift. how could she remain angered? ( I-IT IS PRECISELY THAT!! ) trembling fingers took hold of the small package with a gleeful tone and smile depicting her child-like cheeks.

Side Character Lover + some of my favourite ones
Tumblr media
I am sure there are many alike me out there that fall in love with side characters more than the protagonist or the main cast. It’s quite funny though that I never realised this haha. But, as a side character lover, it’s not that I dislike the main characters that this happens, it’s merely that they are not my favourite.
The best example of what I’m trying to say would be in Detective Conan. Conan isn’t my favourite character, in fact Kaitou Kid is. However, it’d be considered lucky to see Kid every 50 episodes lol. But, although Kid is my favourite character (alongside Hattori Heiji <3), I wasn’t very interested in his anime Magic Kaito 1412 where he starred as the protagonist. Personally, I very much enjoy Conan and his stupid “ah le le” findings, his purity (although Ran wins in the category of purity haha) and his desire to uncover the truth of these cases draws me in. On the other hand, I’m not too interested in Kaitou Kid eluding the police and detectives every episode since there’s really nothing to solve besides seeing Kaitou Kid being cool LOL.
The allure of Kaitou Kid is him being able to shine in the limited screen time he has and Detective Conan does that very well, so well that when I was young, I’d chase the episodes hoping and eagerly awaiting for a Kid episode to appear. I still do that now though hahaha. It’s hard to be a likeable protagonist and side character. One appears too much making it difficult for readers/viewers to like everything about them and one appears too less making it difficult for readers/viewers to like anything about them. I mean, you gotta admit that some side characters are so cliche and redundant that they might as well be thin air and you wouldn’t even notice.
For me, Kaitou Kid has the right amount of everything. A very balanced side character. He gauges enough mystery and interest to the reader/viewer with his battles against Conan whilst maintaining a friendly rivalry that is capable of eluding Conan’s grasp every time with his magic. He looks pretty much just like Shinichi but his confidence, his goal and his design is most definitely the most charming in the series for me. However, Akai Shuuichi and Hattori Heiji are hard to pass up on.
Although, I should probably clarify that when I’m speaking of side characters, I’m referring to anyone besides the main cast that appear most of the time. I want to include antagonists but they’re pretty much main in a different way ahaha. I mean, Griffith from Berserk is my favourite but he’s appeared so rarely now that he’s like a side character antagonist haha! To be honest though, I only started this post to revere in all the side characters that I love in Rurouni Kenshin. Naturally, I love Kenshin, Kaoru and Sanosuke but the ones I truly can’t let go of my love for would be Shinomori Aoshi, Sagara Souzo, Saito Hajime, Hiko Seijuurou, Soujiro and Anji. I know, that’s waaay too many but I can tell you that I’ve cut it down already LOL. I do have to acknowledge that I’m probably biased because of my feelings as a kid haha. But, their back stories, their personalities, their views and just everything about them touched my heart. I can tell you, I’ve cried too much watching Rurouni Kenshin haha.
Ace from One Piece will always remain as one of the side characters that I’ll always love and most probably never forget. I can tell you that when that OP chapter came out, I literally cried for hours and it wasn’t even just a few tears, it was like literally bawling because I was just that sad. It didn’t help that I loved Ace ever since he first appeared so reading that chapter and just thinking about it now breaks my heart to pieces. Needless to say anymore, it was absolutely devastating.
Kite from Hunter x Hunter was also my favourite side character alongside Hisoka (if you consider him one hahaha), Pakunoda and maybe Illumi hahaha. Kite has always interested me, he doesn’t appear much at all but when Gon thinks about him as a sort of goal as well and everything, I got quite attached to him.His appearance in the Chimera Ant arc was one I deeply enjoyed as well. Sadly, everyone I like apparently dies lmao. And no I don’t acknowledge the Chimera Ant version of him haha, I mean...you can’t do that to him T__T
For a bit of change of pace (it’s not fun if I always talk about NANA haha!), I’ll mention two characters in an old anime that people probably don’t even remember that didn’t do much but nevertheless, their existence has been engraved in my heart as a kid because of their character design and personality as the older common sense adults. They would be Haru and Yurika from Final Approach. They have the common role of being the adults that talk some sense into our main characters but I think their voices, characters and character designs were done so well that when I was a child, I literally thought they were perfect. They still are, in my heart haha. It’s crazy how this was nearly 13 years ago, dangg.
Anyway, all I really wanted to say was how much I loved them LOL. I was gonna go more into the difficulties of liking a protagonist or main cast and side characters but I guess I’ll just leave that for another time hahaha.

Bookshelf Briefs 9/11/17
Absolute Duo, Vol. 1 | By Shinichirou Nariie, Takumi Hiragiboshi, and You Asaba| Seven Seas – In general, fans tend to dislike a couple of things in the manga they read, especially Western fans. The first is the tsundere female lead, and the second is the super-powered male lead. Not sure yet whether we’ll get the second, but Absolute Duo seems to be free of the first. Unfortunately, that does sort of make it clear why manga and light novel authors enjoy writing tsundere female leads—the conflict here is rather mild and undramatic, with our hero fighting against a nice girl, and when she loses, she just… says bye and leaves. As for the actual heroine, she’s nice and shy and sort of self-sacrificing. Absolute Duo is decent, and I like everyone, but if you didn’t see another volume you’d barely care. – Sean Gaffney
A Certain Scientific Accelerator, Vol. 6 | By Kazuma Kamachi and Arata Yamachi| Seven Seas – I said last time we were down to the final fight, and we’re still on it by the end of this volume. Index is filled with long, drawn-out battles, but in Railgun and the main series they tend to be separated by more mundane matters. Accelerator, true to its antihero, never really lets us relax, and humorous escapades are at a minimum. It also makes it rather difficult to review. I mean… the fights were cool? I actually understood the action, which is not always the case with heavy action manga. The villain is bad and you want to see them go down? And I’m pretty sure one of our team of heroes is going to die, though I’m also pretty sure it’s the girl who’s already dead. A good spinoff that’s not as good as Railgun at its best. – Sean Gaffney
Delicious in Dungeon, Vol. 2 | By Ryoko Kui| Yen Press – I’m enjoying this second volume more than I did the first, I think. We get a bit more backstory on the characters which makes them a bit more likeable, and Marcille is no longer whining at absolutely everything. On the opposite tact, Laios gets to do some truly ridiculous things showing that he’s a lot more impulsive than we expected (and we get flashbacks showing that his sister really was a major part of their party—I wonder if she’s actually died by now?). And Senshi, while he’s still the wise sage of the group, is also shown to sometimes be wrong. But of course the main draw here is the ridiculous food, detailed in loving “this is actually a cooking manga” detail. A lot of fun. – Sean Gaffney
Girls’ Last Tour, Vol. 2 | By Tsukumizu| Ywn Press – This volume sets itself up much like the last one did, with about 2/3 devoted to Chito and Yuuri’s slice-of-life adventures among the ruins of the world, and the last third has them meeting with another living person and helping them try to achieve a dream. Both times they do this the dreamer fails, though it’s not really the girls’ fault. It does make me wonder what sort of mood the author wants to convey here. There are occasional scenes of Yuuri being an airhead or Chito a grump in that Chika and Miu sort of way, but the air of melancholy you’s expect to hover over this world is more prevalent here. Is there an endpoint the author wants to get to, or when they run out of cute situations will we just have the girls quietly die? Good but odd. – Sean Gaffney
Haikyu!!, Vol. 15 | By Haruichi Furudate | VIZ Media – Karasuno has advanced to the semifinals of the Miyagi Prefecture qualifier tournament. Will their next opponent be Aoba Johsai or Date Tech? Readers are treated to some of that match-up before Aoba Johsai emerges victorious. There are some nice moments here, particularly one in which Kageyama actually admits to Hinata that he’s scared to face Oikawa again and a brief interlude where Sugawara is brought in to shut down a high-scoring newcomer, but not quite as many as in the last volume, which fleshed out background team member Ennoshita. There’s no such thing as a bad volume of Haikyu!!, and this has plenty of excitement and a cliffhanger ending, but the final page suggests I will like next volume’s payoff even more than this volume’s setup. Looking forward to it, as ever! – Michelle Smith
Kase-san and Shortcake | By Hiromi Takashima | Seven Seas – Well, the girls have gotten together in book one, and gotten to know each other more closely in book two. Book three has a double shot of plot, with Yamada realizing that Kase-san is going to a Tokyo university on a sports sholarship, while she’s going to a local college. This… really doesn’t sit well with her, and she frets about it as best you can do when your manga is meant to be cute and fluffy. We also deal with Kase-san wanting to take things further physically, but not wanting to pressure Yamada, and being somewhat stymied by Yamada’s complete ignorance of what to actually do—at one point, she even googles how to have sex with a girl, with hilarious results. Still adorable and fluffy even when everyone is crying. – Sean Gaffney
Kiss & White Lily for My Dearest Girl, Vol. 3 | By Canno | Yen Press – We’re back to the first volume’s couple at the start of this new book, and it’s become pretty clear that their story will tie into all the others we see in this series, which is also why it’s not official as such. Ayake is still overdramatic and difficult to like, though you sympathize with her having to deal with the blase Yurine. As for Yurine, she’s dragooned into the gardening club, which is short on members and about to lose its garden to the sports clubs. And, as it turns out, is also being sabotaged. Luckily, Yukina is the utterly straightforward sort of ojou-sama type, and so it doesn’t end quite as badly as it possibly should. The series continues to detail how absolutely EVERY girl at school is falling for another girl, but that’s not uncommon in this genre. – Sean Gaffney
Log Horizon: The West Wind Brigade, Vol. 6 | By Koyuki and Mamare Touno | Yen Press – It is not a good sign when the best, most interesting part of the spinoff is the one that’s basically telling the events of the main series. I have no doubt that we see Raynesia because she’ll be interacting with our heroes in future volumes, but seeing her and Krusty here made me wish that we had a side series focusing on them instead. Instead, we get a predatory lesbian who seems to be in the West Wind Brigade for only that reason, though Soujiro can still calm her down. The other minor plot is the newbies training at the beach, and how Kawara may not be a dependable sempai but that her type of personality is probably just as good in the long run. I wish this was more consistent. – Sean Gaffney
Murcielago, Vol. 3 | By Yoshimurakana | Yen Press – This series continues to be super violent and super uncaring about the status of its victims—TWO loving fathers are graphically butchered, one right next to his daughter, and we don’t even stay behind to see the horror and grief. It’s all about the killing and the killers. Now, that does not mean that we can’t have fun—seeing Kuroko go to town is the purpose of this series, and it’s nice to watch her be cool and take down actual monsters. And you get the feeling that the next volume, involving Kuroko infiltrating a girls’ academy, will be funnier. But you really need to not really care what happens to anyone at all in order to get into Murcielago. It’s pure rush, but the rush is filled with sociopaths. – Sean Gaffney
One-Punch Man, Vol. 12 | By ONE and Yusuke Murata | VIZ Media – Even though hero-hunting Garo is on the cover, he barely appears. Instead, this volume mostly consists of glimpses of Saitama’s progress through the martial arts tournament intercut with various heroes fighting against a slew of monsters. Genos handles quite a few himself, including a skittering bad guy called Roach Awakening who is wonderfully icky, and it’s also fun to see a few other Class-S heroes in action, especially Watchdog Man, who I bet would get along well with Saitama when and if they actually meet. The tournament stuff is okay, and the action scenes are great, but it all seemed to zoom by so quickly without leaving much of an impact. I’m not sure what exactly I’d change about it, though. Could the answer be as simple as Saitama doing more punching? Maybe so… – Michelle Smith
Tokyo Tarareba Girls, Vol. 6 | By Akiko Higashimura | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – The last time I reviewed Tokyo Tarareba Girls, I found it to be majorly depressing. As a result, I let a few volumes accumulate and, honestly, kind of dreaded reading them. To my surprise, I didn’t find them depressing at all, despite Rinko and friends still being in the same awful relationships as before. I think the difference is that they’re beginning to see the truth, and there’s a strong suggestion that they’re going to do something about it. In this volume, for example, it’s Key to the rescue again as he helps Kaori finally (hopefully) break free of Ryo. Interestingly, though, when Rinko seems about to reunite with Mr. Hayasaka—and they’re genuinely cute together—and Key is poised to intervene again, I suddenly found his interference very unwelcome. Very eager for volume seven! – Michelle Smith
Yowamushi Pedal, Vol. 6 | By Wataru Watanabe | Yen Press – As I’ve mentioned before, this is one of those sports series that runs in a shonen magazine whose Western audience is predominately female, and the BL fandom is huge. (Pity poor Kanzaki…) I was not really expecting to see quite as much of why the BL fandom was huge till I got to this volume, the last half of which is Makishima and Toudou’s race, which may in fact be the gayest thing I’ve ever seen in a non-explicit manga. It’s incredible. The first half is also very good, involving Onoda getting into a crash which leaves him in last place, and having to pass 100 bikes in order to catch up. Which he does, because of course he does. The series is a pure exhilarating thrill ride, and I desperately want to read more. – Sean Gaffney
