Hey, you know a lot about Pathologic!
So, Day 1 Bachelor route, if you don’t complete the quest, you die at midnight. And Katerina had warned him that something was hunting him.
Did Clara kill him?
Like, isn’t it heavily implied that she’s a Shabnak-Adyr, or at least some offshoot of it, and that she killed Simon?
So does she kill Daniil if he doesn’t complete the quest? And if she doesn’t…then why DOES he just spontaneously die?
hmm I would say no but it depends how you take certain things, the death cutscene only indicates that "Shabnak [...] touched them, and turned their blood into poisonous tar". while transforming blood is very much a clara skill, aspity alludes to herself being the shabnak a few times (which dankovsky can interpret as a lie)... clara is the plague, but the shabnak is often separated from the plague itself by being identified as its carrier. I would think of the shabnak more as a metaphorical vehicle for elements of game plot like this ending, and would definitely not attribute it to an intentional act from either of the people named (as funny as it would be if aspity would kill the bachelor, that doesn't work at all with the same failure condition being true for haruspex route)
then my watsonian explanation is that the healer contracts the plague in a normal way i.e. touching particulates, and does not understand its signs or presence enough to fight the illness (from a new player's POV, midnight on d1 happens before the infection/immunity stats are used in gameplay). as a read of katerina's line "If you don't point at the killer… by nightfall, then the killer will strike you down as well… You simply won't be able to recognize them. You won't notice them crawling up to you… Somehow you'll be very surprised upon seeing their face… and that will leave you paralyzed." i.e. just interpreting "face" as not literal here. depending how much of the main quest was completed this can work better or worse (i.e. dying if you tell rubin but not georgiy about the plague makes less sense) but I think it wraps the mechanic into story without breaking anything in the "events in the world" sense. useful bit of tutorialization to inform the player that they need to keep up with the story, but expressed as a source of tension and challenge... one of patho's most underrated mechanics IMO

Incredibly awkward when your morally off necromancer vampire housemate confesses their feelings to you by saying they would murder billions just after you've contracted the plague.
Anyway, say hello to Enxo (they/them) and Livie (she/her) from an urban fantasy story that's been living in my head rent free without me actually putting anything down for over a year and a half. I think I thought of them after Halloween 2022. That was a while ago.

Smelly Turtles
Am I the only one who thinks about how absolutely atrocious the ninja turtles would smell? Like not only are they teenagers but they live in a literal sewer. That stench alone would be a fate worse than death.
In the episode (ROTTMNT) where they lose Raph in the sewers and are just having a relaxing day in the sewage (as a replacement for a pool) they seem so calm and relaxed about the fact they’re swimming in…yeah.
I hate to break it to you but cesspools are not cleanly, and you can clearly see that it’s gross sewage (based on the fact that the water is brown and gross).
I don’t know how April would put up with them smelling so gross. Like you would think even no matter how much you wash them they’d just permanently smell like sewage. The stink has just been festering for so long around them it doesn’t go away. Unless maybe part of being a mutant makes you immune to smelling bad. Like maybe their sweat is scented like strawberries or something. I don’t know what strawberries smell like but if they did have a smell I’m sure it would be nice….strawberries don’t have a smell right? I’m not just unable to smell things? Idk.
Anyways. I’m sure other people have talked about this and I’d like to know people’s thoughts. Surely I am not the only person who has thought about this.
That was a lot of talking for a very random thought. Enjoy your day :)

Man but the notes on that post really are just tumblr showing they have no idea how anything works.
"report to your local animal abuse people not to cops" local animal abuse people would be animal control. Animal control officers are cops.
"rabies is treatable if you go to the doctor right after the bite" rabies is PREVENTABLE, not treatable. There is no cure for rabies. If you suspect you came into contact with a rabid animal, you need to get a series of rabies vaccinations to prevent the virus from taking over your body. This is not a treatment and it only works if you go right away. If you show any symptoms of rabies it is too late.
"rabies is fatal in animals but treatable in humans" rabies has a 100% fatality rate and is not considered a survivable disease at this point in time. If you contract rabies YOU WILL DIE. The "treatment" in humans is called the Milwaukee Protocol, only 14% of people survive it, and it leaves you with massive brain damage and effectively turns you into a vegetable. You do not return to a normal life afterwards. Very few people who have undergone this process are capable of doing more than laying in a hospital bed and eating and breathing through tubes. To my knowledge only one person was able to live a semi-normal life after years and years of ongoing therapy and was not expected to have made it even through her first year after treatment.
I cannot stress enough how rabies is unlike any other disease you may be thinking of. It's required on a federal level in this country to vaccinate pretty much any domestic animal that comes into contact with wildlife for one reason and one reason only: it is not considered possible to cure rabies and the spread of disease would threaten all mammalian life including our own if allowed to continue to propagate.

I caught a cold + had a bunch of midterms and stuff to make up from health issues so I’ve been quite “unproductive” with art when right now I’d rather be drawing much more bc I was able to get back on top of my work after my hospital visit a couple weeks ago, but god loves to spit in my face every time I either recover or have free time so! I will be resting for a bit further, hopefully I’ll feel better soon and actually have some stuff to post before Halloween comes.

oh my fucking god can people stop coopting the term "harm reduction". i know language can change but i refuse to let this term change into the literal opposite meaning just so people can justify their decision to vote for a genocidaire.
harm reduction is literally, meaningfully, about reducing existing risk of harm. a person who uses drugs is at risk of disease or illness because they only have access to dirty needles? provide them with a needle exchange program to make it safer for them. a teen who is sexually active is at risk of becoming pregnant or contracting a sexually transmitted infection? provide them with sex ed and protective devices like condoms or dental dams to allow them to have safe sex.
and yes, there is a part of harm reduction that is aimed at not moralizing about the behavior that you're trying to reduce harm from. but if you're a progressive - as most of the people lecturing us about "harm reduction" purport to be - you should already understand that these behaviors are not ethically bad in and of themselves. it is not inherently unethical to use drugs or be sexually active as a teen, so the fact that harm reduction efforts could "encourage" that behavior is also not unethical! if you think that it is, then you're actually a conservative!
and, importantly, the people who benefit from harm reduction were only at risk of harming themselves in the first place. so helping someone make those activities safer for themselves is not only reducing the risk of harm to that person, but, in doing so, it is not increasing the risk of harm to anyone else either.
voting is giving your active support to a candidate, and thus to that candidate's platform. so please tell me how giving your vote to a president who is actively driving a genocide, perpetuating a pandemic, funding cop cities and a border wall, and driving up deportations - none of which he has pledged to stop if reelected - is reducing existing risk of harm? because harm reduction also isn't "choosing an option that you believe is better than the hypothetical even worse alternative". and voting for biden is, in fact, increasing the existing risk of the harm that he is currently enacting on other people, and encouraging his despicable behavior!
if coopting the term "harm reduction" is the only thing making you feel okay about your decision to vote for biden despite all the people who are dead, disabled, deported, or destitute because of him, then honestly, that seems like a you problem. STOP COOPTING THE TERM.
(and if you feel the urge to respond with something along the lines of "but biden's just doing his best! i'm just telling people to vote for him because i'm scared of trump!" then please at least read this post as well before you say anything to me about it)
