seven comfort movie
i’ve been tagged my lovely @vishcount, thank you!!💗 most of these movies are from my childhood which i always come back to when i need comfort. i chose these movies from the amount of serotonin they are definitely going to give me.
am tagging @cortue, @intyalote, @the-cloud-whisperer, @isabellaofparma, @sassyassassy, @tresi-world maybe you enjoy this too!
so here i go under the cut:
Mary Poppins (1964)
Tumblr media
I’ve recently rewatched this with my family and just sobbed. It’s just such a joy to watch and it gets me emotional every damn time? Recently I’ve had an emotional breakdown over this movie because of very unexpected reasons, so all I can say is that it never gets boring. It feels like a cosy blanket from childhood that makes me feel safe for some reason.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Tumblr media
This was the first LOTR movie that I watched entirely and that’s why it has a soft spot in my heart. All the movies are amazing but the 2nd one always gets me crying the most? I loved Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli searching for Merry and Pippin, I loved the Fangorn Forest, I loved Rohan and its whole atmosphere (especially the soundtrack), I LOVE THE MARCH OF THE ENTS, and I still think the battle and Helm’s Deep is still the most epic one. I also adored the creepy vibes of the Marshes and Sam’s speech at the end in Osgiliath just makes me sob every time. All in all, this movie is perfect to me and my 9 yo self was very much influenced for life by this. i’ve never fallen out it
Tři oříšky pro Popelku/ Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973)
Tumblr media
I’m not lying when I say that I’ve been watching this movie ever since I was born, because in my family not a single christmas passes without watching this. I think this has been a tradition in the Czech side of my family ever since this movie was released and even after growing up, I never get tired of it? It’s probably the only christmas tradition I will keep forever. It’s not just the most familiar movie, but its production is stunning? Legendary to be honest. If you know this movies, you understand what I mean and if not... I can’t really explain tbh.
Pride (2014)
Tumblr media
When I think about comfort movies, I instantly remember this one. I’ve only seen it once so far but the experience of watching it is so incredibly vivid in my memory? I remember watching it soon after it came out on netflix on my tiny samsung phone screen and sobbing my heart out by the end of it. It’s one of those feel-good movies that give me so much hope? I truly should rewatch it at some point, it’s been way too long.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)
Tumblr media
I can’t make a list like this without mentioning at least one HP movie. We grew up with the VHS cassettes with the first three movies, so those especially always give me a very strong feeling of comfort and joy. I remember as a child I was so mesmerised by it and when the movies came out in the cinemas we always waited impatiently. I literally just grew up with them. The first movie especially just gives me this intense feeling of home. It’s the beginning of it all, it introduces this world to us and is so strongly tied to so many of our childhoods. Am so sad for all the shit that J*R is pulling, because this world has been dear to me ever since I can remember.
Big Hero 6 (2014)
Tumblr media
This is another movie that comes to my mind in an instant when I think about comfort movies. This too, I’ve seen only two times I think? and it just heals me okay. It’s healing. I have nothing else to say apart from that. I should rewatch, for mental health purposes.
Peter Pan (2003)
Tumblr media
This last one too is a childhood AND adult favourite of mine. As you might have noticed, my common theme is fairytales, magical lands and just dreamy movies. I rediscovered this movie a few years ago after having forgotten about it for so long and it’s one of those fairytales that just hit so differently when you grow up? I guess the entire story of Peter Pan is designed to be like this and it just breaks and heals me all the same. And this is my absolutely favourite adaptation of Peter Pan ever because it so perfectly represents the dreamlike story of the book but also its brutal themes and the ever-lingering melancholia? It’s just a perfect movie in my eyes. It’s comfort and sadness all the same, but so are many of the movies on my list I guess.
Okay this was a lot of fun!! Made me miss all these movies so much and also sad for others I had to leave out. I didn’t mention many of my favourite movies I watched recently, because when I think about ‘comfort’, there’s these movies that accompanied me and gave me comfort during my childhood, that have never quite left me. I think recently I have discovered other comfort movies like Moonlit Winter (2019) and Watership Down (1978) that I wish I could have added here, but I don’t really think they fit this comfort theme perfectly. I also almost added one of the Pirates of The Caribbean movies because those were a big companion as well, not to mention the Narnia movies, but this list only allows seven right. Am feeling nostalgic now, thanks
