2018 Year In Review

I was tagged by @catefrankie to do a year in review and so I decided i would, despite...never participating in these things, i am bored and tired and love challenging myself to remember 5 (just five) tv shows i maybe watched this year.

Top 5 Films (which I watched for the first time in 2018, regardless of when they actually came out)

1. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, for its excellent use of my specific type of manic pixie dream boy: strong brunette man with facial hair and kind crinkly eyes provides for me amongst lush scenery 2. Mama Mia: Here We Go Again, for making me weep in the theater because i loved it so much and i don’t know why 3. Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles, becuase I thought it was really interesting and wild and i LOVE WEIRD THINGS. 4. The Bridget Jones series, for ...Colin Firth. that’s it. that’s the whole reason why. 5. John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous, becuase of course.

Top 5 TV Shows (which I watched one or more seasons of for the first time in 2018) 1. Daredevil Season 3 copied for the sake of copying from @catefrankie becuase i truly love matthew michael murdock and i will miss him with my whole head and my whole heart 2. The Good Place, becuase michael schur is the only man i’ll ever truly trust 3. My Brother, My Brother and Me, becuase they’re literally the funniest three people i’ve ever seen interact with each other and i love them so much 4. It’s not...technically a tv series but i watched Bryan Dechart stream D:BH and then i played it and i felt more emotionally attached to Connor than any other drama series i’ve watched all year so 5. The Magicians...it wasn’t my favorite favorite series but i did like it and i AM running out of shows that i watched this last year lol

Top 5 Songs (which I heard for the first time in 2018) 1. “Quarter Past Midnight”, Bastille, both becuase they’re my favorite band and i’m finally a young and free youth with important, formative memories attached to quarter past midnight as a time and a song 2. “Graveclothes” by Birdtalker, for having one of my favorite lines of any song this year “we don’t need no mournful sound/shake those grave clothes to the ground” 3. “Constellations”, The Oh Hellos, for being another favorite band and because of a bittersweet memory and it’s just a good song 4. “Drew Barrymore” by Bryce Vine, partly because it’s a good song that became the anthem of a road trip, and because of this video that needs so much more appreciation than it has got 5. “Cliffy” by Matt Maeson, an artist i discovered this year, who deserves more recognition, and who i intensely struggled to pick a favorite song from

Top 5 Books (which I read for the first time in 2018) 1. American Fire: Love, Arson, and Life in a Vanishing Land, because it was a really good read about ...love arson and life in a vanishing land. i learned about my new favorite architectural oddity: big house, little house, colonnade, kitchen, which amuses me to this day. 2. Bridge of Clay, kind of an odd, confusing read but my love for stories about brothers precedes me 3. Turtles All The Way Down, for the line “you remember your first love because they show you, prove to you, that you can love and be loved” which was motivation i needed at the time and still need very much, and for making me cry because we were all very mean to john green and he really didn’t deserve it alright 4. Never Let Me Go, for the sad, existential ponderings 5. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society for being just as good as the movie and having encapsulated my taste in men with the line "he has eyes that look like they're smiling before he's even smiling" which i’m not over

Top 5 Moments 1. Getting to take my 11 year old niece to the Wizarding World for the first time. The JOY on her face, and the belief, and the fact I got to be there for it will forever be something I am so grateful for. 2. Skydiving! 3. I took an island vacation with a dear friend and biked to an antique shop, where we found a letter from a daughter to her mother about her daughter’s illegitimate suitors, filled with the MOST MARVELOUS vintage drama. 4. I took my first ever road trip just with friends and we did not die, and we had a great time and all got not-matching tattoos. 5. The ever-evolving growth and introspection one finds in oneself in college (esp when previously one had been homeschooled and kind of a shut in) when they’re rubbing up against peers for the first time and really learning who and why they are and learning what they expect and want from others and want others to expect and want from them. I’m a very introspective person and I’ve enjoyed the process, even when it’s made me not the least bit miserable.

Hello everyone! I’m so thankful I was born in the right decade to share my journey online. The fitblr community is a wonderful place filled with wonderful people. I think it’d be pretty cool to get to know each other a bit better so here’s an incredibly long get to know me tag. 1. What is your full name? Ilona Camille R. M. (Already cheating this, but I’m literally the only person in the world with this name and not everyone has to find this blog)

2. What is your nickname? My family calls me Sis (as in sister) but like the Dutch version is Zus

3. What is your zodiac sign? Aquarius (Turned 21 on 02/16!)

4. What is your favorite book series? I loved the Girls series by Jacqueline Wilson. I’m such an adult.

5. Do you believe in aliens or ghosts? Yes.

6. Who is your favorite author? Can I say John Green? I might sound like a basic B but I guess I am.

8. What is your favorite flavor of anything? Cheesy? haha

20. What is your favorite season? I always say Fall but since I’ve been craving strawberries and pool parties I’m going with Summer.

34. Do you have any unusual phobias? Is it unusual to be scared of balloons? I’m really scared they will pop.

42. What superpower do you wish you had? Reading minds

43. When and where do you feel most at peace? We have a fairly big yard. In summer I love to go to our poolhouse and have breakfast whilst seeing the sun reflect on the pool, chickens running around and my dogs playing.

44. What makes you smile? My dogs

45. What sports do you play, if any? Zumba, poledancing

46. What is your favorite drink? Virgin Mojito

47. When was the last time you wrote a hand-written letter or note to somebody? Probably in class when we weren’t allowed to use our laptops. My friend and I were probably the only people to have passed a note in college.

49. What is your biggest pet peeve? People talking over me or not listening

50. Have you ever been to a concert? Probably over 20 so far

51. Are you vegan/vegetarian? I’m a vegan/vegetarian/pescotarian. Basically I try to aim for vegan BUT! I live in the middle of nowhere and most restaurants don’t even have a vegetarian option. I adapt but I always try to go for vegan. I did not eat meat for the last 11 years and maybe 5x fish?

52. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? A vet by day, superstar by night. My parents tried very hard to explain it didn’t work like that.

53. What fictional world would you like to live in? Sims 4. It’s so aesthetically pleasing.

54. What is something you worry about? School, weight, love, health,...
