I like to think that despite canon's ambiguity on the subject that Phoenix became good friends with Iris after BttT and she sends him handmade scarves and gloves and stuff in the winter. One day Phoenix goes to visit Kristoph in prison while wearing one of those scarves and is like ":( Kris.... we were toxic with benefits for 7 years and you never made me anything. You're in prison this long and you didn't bother learning some arts and crafts??? Cmon you never even knitted me a scarf" and Kristoph makes some snide remark about it but then a few months later Phoenix gets an unlabeled box on the porch of WAA that has this really shittily made scarf in it and Phoenix refuses to let anyone touch it bc he is convinced it's poisoned somehow. And he's right.

Last night I got to thinking, for no real reason, about how the AA6 portion of the Bullshit Defense AU doesn’t have a climactic plot. Like, the AA1 segment doesn’t either - there’s no equivalent to Turnabout Goodbyes, of course - but it’s just really funny after the AA4 and AA5 bits, where they expose Kristoph as the bastard he is, and catch the Phantom, that after all that, the only mildly interesting thing that happens is Trucy gets arrested for murder and Nahyuta has to prosecute his brother’s half-sister and Thalassa calls Retinz a bitch in front of the entire courtroom.
Like the revolution happened ~14 years ago, Amara’s been back on the throne since, Nahyuta and Apollo have spent half their lives as royalty and Rayfa has never known anything but growing up in the palace a princess with two older brothers and Amara and Dhurke as her parents.
Except then I was like “wait, what if I can figure out drama to happen in Khura’in anyway?” and of course that’s exactly what I’ve done. And it’s too detailed in some parts and broad-strokes in others because, yknow, I worked through it last night and have other fic to write even though I spent all day so far on this uhhh 3.6k “summary”.
-
Ga’ran was not a popular queen for the ~9 or so years of her rule. Really, she’d be outright hated if she wasn’t playing the “my sister was assassinated” card for sympathy. Her criminal justice ““reforms”” are swift and brutal and not only send every defense attorney underground into the rebellion, but also some prosecutors as well, the ones who have concerns beyond simply winning. Among the prosecutors that stay, it’s a free-for-all of making shit up, calling retrials when things don’t go their way, etc etc - hey, if Ga’ran did it in her trial with Dhurke, then they can too!
Plus, Dhurke was quite popular in his own right, not just “Amara was a well-loved queen so people liked her husband as well.” He successfully defended himself from the charges that he was Amara’s assassin - it was Ga’ran calling a retrial, claiming that he forged evidence, that sent him running. And while Ga’ran tried to claim that Dhurke’s disappearance was suspicious, that if he was truly innocent he’d have nothing to fear from a retrial, and while some people accepted that, there were others who thought that Dhurke’s disappearance was actually Ga’ran disappearing him, and her claims that he was still out there leading a resistance were entirely fabricated to justify Ga’ran claiming extra power and cracking down on all defense attorneys and everything else. Which I mean, Dhurke is still out there, but point being, lots and lots of people aren’t buying Ga’ran’s story.
Plus, Inga is embezzling millions of the people’s tax dollars, and that’s not helping this new regime be popular, either.
This is all background to say, when Amara announced that she was alive, that Ga’ran framed Dhurke for the fire, that the people of Khura’in welcomed her back to the throne with open arms, even if she was no longer a goddess in their eyes, having admitted that she had been fooled, that she had been wrong, and that she made a terrible mistake in trusting her sister and not just her family had suffered for it, but the whole of the country had.
As part of their legal reforms, to clean up the mess that Ga’ran made of the courts and the country, Amara eliminated the death penalty. After Inga signing off on every execution warrant without caring, after Ga’ran wielding death sentences to defendants as a weapon against defense attorneys who she saw as threats to her political power - how could she continue to allow it, no matter the crime, no matter how clear the evidence and proof, when her people, because of the cruelty experienced within their living memory, will always be wondering, fearing, that their queen allowed the execution of an innocent?
Which means that Ga’ran was not executed. Some of people of Khura’in were understandably crying out for Ga’ran’s blood, and treason is a capital crime, but Amara’s kind heart never wanted to see her sister dead at her word. And outlawing such a punishment, no exceptions, means that she could point to that and say - “I am not allowing my sister to escape justice. What I am doing is not adhering to her kind of justice that so ruined this country and so many lives. No more of that, ever.”
(Amara knows, of course, that Ga’ran was not trying to murder her; because Amara knows that Ga’ran cannot channel spirits. And Amara knows, of course, that if Ga’ran was capable of channeling, Amara would have burned to death in that blaze. Ga’ran kept her alive because she needed her. It wasn’t love. It was necessity. But in Amara’s heart of hearts, down in the core that still hurts no matter how many years have passed, she still loves her sister. Her own sister. Her little sister. How could she sentence her to death? How could she see that through?)
-
And this is all not to say also, that there weren’t a handful of people who had preferred Ga’ran’s rule. They were corrupt and power-hungry prosecutors, or grifters also involved in embezzling tax dollars, or so on and forth. That kind of people. And while Amara and Dhurke and Datz try their hardest to root out those people, get them properly punished, return what they’ve stolen from the country, they’re also busy with, like, everything else, fixing and reforming the justice system, reinvestigating every case Ga’ran oversaw to exonerate every innocent convicted under her rule, making reparations to the families of any innocents executed. Some of the people who were profiting most from Ga’ran’s rule slip through the cracks because of what Amara prioritizes. And they aren’t exactly happy at all about Amara being queen again.
But it’s pretty hard to get anyone else on your side when the country is just relieved that they’re not going to be convicted of a crime after a sham of a trial where they have no defense and the prosecution is making up evidence, so life in Khura’in goes along well and peacefully for more than a decade, with only the briefest, barest whispers of discontent from the sort of people who honestly deserve to be discontent because they’re greedy assholes.
-
Trouble begins to kick in after Rayfa’s fourteenth birthday. (This is, by the way, her worst birthday ever because Apollo always comes home for her birthday and Nahyuta is always around, except Apollo got blown up a week before, and his best friend is in the hospital in a coma from being stabbed, and Nahyuta ran off to LA after him to make sure he’s alive, and they’re still there, Nahyuta trying to help Apollo and friends wrap their heads around the absolute catastrophe that began with the Space Center bombing and is still happening.)
She’s been doing the Divination Seances for over a year, though rather sparsely and only on trials where either Nahyuta and/or Dhurke is there. But now she’s performing them more frequently, and also Nahyuta isn’t around because he’s planning to spend the short long-term in LA. (“Everything Apollo has told you about how fucked up the American legal system is true, and then some,” Nahyuta says. “They need all the help I can give and also a lot more.”)
Rayfa becoming more of a public figure, though, is something of a catalyst. It’s been so long that most of Ga’ran’s supporters have either left the country for somewhere they can be corrupt without the Queen’s right-hand man personally showing up in their houses to casually threaten them with a knife, or just given up. Except Ga’ran, languishing in prison, certainly has not given up, and her first real plan in fourteen years is to begin undermining her sister’s rule simply with rumors. Put some cracks in the foundation. Ga’ran is good at getting into people’s heads, and she hasn’t really managed to sway some of her guards to her side, but she has instilled some doubt in Amara in them, and she can work with that. She’ll create more doubt about Amara’s capacities as queen.
Whispers start going around the capital, and then out of it, that Rayfa isn’t actually Amara and Dhurke’s daughter, that Dhurke is a blight on the bloodline and no daughter of his could channel, and Rayfa is Ga’ran’s daughter, stolen from her when Amara reclaimed the throne. Critically, Ga’ran was never exposed as not being able to channel spirits; she was already guilty of arson, prosecutorial misconduct, and high treason, and that’s just from the time of the fire to when she was crowned, not even getting into everything she did as queen. She’d done enough to rot in prison for life without Amara announcing that shes also an illegitimate queen. She was an illegitimate queen enough because Amara was still alive and the crown belongs to the eldest sister. Amara, at times too kindhearted, keeps her little sister’s secret.
So Ga’ran’s still in contention for the throne, technically, kinda, if she can pin the fire and Jove’s death on someone else again, if she can throw someone under the bus for her decisions as queen with the DC Act - ah! Inga! You’re still alive, too, rotting in a different prison! You’re a good scapegoat! There, another step of the plan figured out.
Ga’ran’s not planning on asking anyone to assassinate Amara, not yet. She wants to get her hands on the Founder’s Orb first, get that spiritual power, and then she can take out Amara, secure in the knowledge that she can prove herself a valid queen.
For now, she’s just testing the waters by claiming that Amara is a daughter-stealing whore who’s been taken in by Dhurke’s wily defense attorney lies just like the rest of the country. And probably other, increasingly outlandish rumors, that no matter how ridiculous they are, are enough to set Amara on the defensive and make people start to wonder about the functionality of the royal family. That she had Nahyuta exiled for [insert any number of stupid reasons here] and the “he went to America to visit his brother” is a cover story so that nobody realizes how much turmoil there is in the palace. That Apollo isn’t an adopted orphan but is Amara’s illegitimate son with Datz and that’s why he so rarely comes back from abroad, because Dhurke doesn’t want him around.
(“Listen,” Dhurke says, and everyone knows whatever he’s about to say is gonna be stupid as hell. “If Amara wanted to cheat on me with Datz that’s her prerogative because I’m pretty sure I’ve probably cheated on her with Datz?”)
(Amara sighs. Datz starts laughing and nearly chokes on a bite of apple.)
Then they find out that the Founder’s Orb has been stolen, and this crop of sudden, weird rumors comes into perfect clarity. Certainly they have an idea that Ga’ran was behind it in some way, especially given the claim about Rayfa, but they couldn’t figure out why beyond her being bored. Now they know what they’re seeing. Death by a thousand lashes, or a thousand little rumors adding up with this very big Founder’s Orb matter to paint a picture of Amara being an idiot and a fool and untrustworthy and a backstabber, and her rule as ineffective, if Khura’in’s greatest treasure went missing under her. And they know what they say about the Founder’s Orb, its ability to grant spiritual power to anyone, and they know that yes, yes, this is Ga’ran having bided her time, finally striking back.
But they don’t know how she’s getting word to her people - they don’t know who “her people” are - they don’t know where the Founder’s Orb is. They have nothing to tie back to Ga’ran, nothing but their very logical suspicions, but they don’t know what to do with that. They can’t make another case against her just on that, not without being hypocritical to the ideals and principles they’ve reformed their legal system on. And Datz would go and personally guard Ga’ran himself and put her in solitary where he’s her only contact to the outside, to know for sure no one can talk with her, but that would mean leaving Rayfa and Amara, and he also doesn’t trust anyone besides himself to properly bodyguard them, now, so it’s just a fucking mess.
Helping them investigate the stolen Orb are Maya and Misty - Maya, who’s been back for a few months after going home when the courthouse bombing happened, and Misty who came to visit her daughter what felt like 10 seconds before this shit started. Maya can play the bumbling tourist really well, and she understands Khura’inese much better than she speaks it, while Misty feigns not being able to understand or speak anything - she’s rusty, certainly, since it’s been so long since she herself visited Khura’in for her training, but she knows much more than she lets on.
Then Beh’leeb Inmee, who in her free time was looking into the Founder’s Orb matter along with her husband, is accused of murdering a monk, and everything really starts spiraling to shit. Beh’leeb, with investigation assistance from Maya and Dhurke, successfully proves that it was self-defense, and her attacker was someone else who’s been caught up in this Founder’s Orb theft and what’s looking more and more like it’s gonna be an attempted coup. And probably sooner rather than later.
Misty returns to LA, with Rayfa who is using a forged American passport - Datz has a fuckton of contingency plans, let no one ever say he’s only an idiot - under a fake name with the surname “Fey”, posing as Misty’s niece. With the situation in Khura’in becoming more dangerous for the royal family and their closest friends, Amara and Dhurke and Datz decide the best thing to do is get Rayfa the hell out. She doesn’t want to go, which is why Misty goes too - both to make sure she does in fact leave, and to protect her if it comes to it. Maya absolutely refuses to leave, though; come hell or high water she wants to help her distant cousins sort this out, and Misty can’t physically drag her away. So Maya stays.
Apollo and Nahyuta, meanwhile, know that it’s getting to be a mess back home, but they don’t realize how much of one until Rayfa shows up on the doorstep, jet-lagged and exhausted but still absolutely livid that she’s been dragged all this way. She wanted to visit LA but not like this, dammit!
Meanwhile, back in Khura’in, two very important things happen. Ga’ran escapes from jail. And Datz finds out where the Founder’s Orb went: to Kurain Village. Maya immediately tells Mia, who tells Apollo and Nahyuta and Rayfa, and when Misty tries to stop them Mia’s like “hey Mom remember the time that instead of talking to me you nearly got yourself killed for Maya’s sake? Yeah you aren’t allowed to tell us what’s good or safe for me or them. We’re going up to the village to get that Orb, see you later.”
So Mia, Apollo, Nahyuta, and Rayfa go on a family bonding train ride up to Kurain Village. There, they find the same canonical situation - the Orb hidden and Dr Buff dead. Nahyuta and Apollo go spelunking and nearly drown again; Rayfa hangs out with Pearl and gets more quality bonding time with another of her distant cousins; and when the boys get back thoroughly waterlogged but with the Orb, Atishon shows up to tell them that they’ll see him in court for the Orb - they’ll see him and his attorney. Mia.
The royal siblings understandably demand to know why Mia has turned on them. Atishon says it’s because she’s seen the light and knows what’s best for both her village and their kingdom. Mia doesn’t look them in the eyes. Rayfa curses out Atishon in Khura’inese, and watching his reaction, Apollo realizes: he doesn’t understand a word of it. He tries to catch Mia’s eye, tries to indicate in some, any, way, and then he asks her again, “Why?”
And she answers, with a very broken pronunciation and accent, but still understandable Khura’inese: “My sister.”
“What did you say?” Atishon demands, and Mia lies, “I told them to fuck off, since they aren’t getting the mesage in English.”
They know Maya; Apollo least, but Nahyuta got to know her pretty well on their trip to LA from Khura’in back in December, and Rayfa was, just a week or two ago, seeing her investigate the missing Orb, and vehemently protest returning to LA when she could help find the Orb and help her family, the ones here with the crown, being undermined by a sister. (It hits close to home for Maya, still.) They know Maya is on their side. They know something’s damn wrong. They call Datz and ask him to find Maya because something’s happened.
In court the next day, it’s Apollo and Nahyuta, with Rayfa in the gallery behind them sometimes shouting at them, up against Mia and Diego. Someone casually observing could be forgiven for thinking Diego doesn’t have a clue what’s happening and is accidentally undermining Mia’s case. He actually does know what’s happening and is actively undermining Mia’s case, per her request, because he can play the idiot better than she can, drag this out longer without Atishon getting suspicious, give a little more time for Maya to be rescued. And they don’t hear back about Maya, but they do prove that the Orb needs a spirit medium, and Rayfa knows Ga’ran’s secret, that she can’t channel. Amara’s the only other medium in the country; Maya’s got to be safe.
Atishon gets arrested for murder, and Apollo, Nahyuta, Rayfa, Mia, Diego, and Misty rush off on a plane Franziska gets for them to Khura’in. Mia is biting her tongue the whole time trying not to make a jab about what happened the last time Diego and Misty banded together to save Maya. (She’s really, really trying.
“What’s the plan? Get stabbed and stranded on top of a mountain again?”
Fuck, she was trying.
Instead of answering, Diego takes out his phone and starts sending a message. “Lana and I bet on how long it would take you to say something.”
“I’m going to break your fucking neck, Diego.”
“Not hers?”
“She’s not the one who stabbed my mother on a snowy mountaintop and spent 36 hours feeding my little cousin snow and cold gravy.”
“That’s because she was in prison at the time!!”
“Why is every family I’m part of so fucked up?” asks Apollo, who neither knows this story nor wants to know.)
And honestly I don’t have details that worked out of what goes down when they get back to Khura’in. Maya is rescued. Ga’ran tries some bullshit, but in this universe the only thing she really has going for her is charisma and a handful of supporters. She doesn’t have the throne, she doesn’t have murders to frame Dhurke and Amara for. (Unless she had one of her people murder Inga in jail and tried to blame it on Datz. Ooh, actually that could be a fun plot.) She’s been proven to have committed murder (Jove). If she can be queen, it’s only as a tyrant, having killed everyone in her way, but she’s still got a handful of people who are willing to kill for her. They can put her back in jail, as they should, but she’ll still have her people. They have to get rid of that factor, soundly ruin her so that no one would ever believe her whispers of temptation for power and riches.
So Apollo and Mia realize that the way to take her down is still with the Founder’s Orb. She can’t channel. If they just announce that fact, her supporters aren’t going to believe them. If Amara announces it, same thing. But what they can do is bait her with the Orb and the Holy Mother’s face, forcing her to completely humiliate herself in front of the whole country, proving once again that she has absolutely nothing to offer anyone.
(Also side note, this would be the first time that Apollo and Nahyuta and Rayfa have ever met their aunt, and it’s to find that yeah, she’s as awful as all of Datz’s stories that Amara claimed were slightly exaggerated.)
The Orb goes back where it belongs; Ga’ran also goes back to where she belongs, which is jail, along with everyone who was willing to do murder for her and break her out of jail. The rumors about how the royal family is actually a dysfunctional shitshow are soundly quashed by seeing Apollo and Nahyuta and Rayfa return with the Orb to support their mother and stop their aunt. (Actually  the stupid rumor about Apollo being Datz and Amara’s kid doesn’t quite die, but the fact that they’re no longer under siege and struggling to plug the holes and expose Ga’ran’s plotting means that it’s honestly kinda funny now, to most of them. Apollo’s mortified and wishes that Dhurke and Datz would stop joking about it. They will not.)
Anyway after that, everything calms down in Khura’in again and Pearl and Trucy and Thalassa fly out to Khura’in so that they can all meet the rest of their family, and the biggest problem anyone has is Nahyuta has to decide whether he wants to stay home and help prosecute the people involved in this shitshow, or return to LA and help his new friends there with their perpetual shitshow.

Fanfic I have downloaded on my phone
I do recommend all of these and read them fairly consistently.
---
Sanders Sides
---
A Lovely Night - Peter164
Summary:
Virgil has a boyfriend, a dramatic, over the top, self absorbed boyfriend. But his dad doesn't know. He asks for some help from a trusted adult. This trusted adult just happens to be his teacher. But it seems that there always has to be a secret boyfriend in the family when his dad starts dating.
Genre: Fluff and Smut
Ships: Prinxiety + Logicality
My Thoughts: Fantastic, and you can skip the smut chapters without missing anything. It's a good, pretty healthy, supportive romance on both ends and I love reading it, it's so nice.
---
Powerless - patentpending (on Ao3) (Tumblr: @/impatentpending)
Summary:
“People like us,” Logan had once remarked to Virgil. “Are statistical anomalies.”
(Almost) Everyone in the world has powers. As for those who don’t, well, they’re such a small part of the population - only 0.04% - why would anyone care about them?
Ever since he realized what people mean when they call him Powerless, Virgil Sanders has tried to fight back against the system that oppresses people like him, Patton, and Logan. When Patton’s bakery is targeted in a hate crime, he finally snaps. With the help of a mysterious sponsor, Virgil becomes a villain, ready to remake a broken society. The only thing standing in his way is the world’s most Powerful (and infuriatingly charming) superhero: The Prince, who is hiding the fact that his gilded life isn’t as perfect as it may seem.
Genre: Angst
Ships: Prinxiety + Logicality (with background OC+OC)
My thoughts: Without a doubt one of the best fanfics I've ever read. The author likes to keep readers on their toes and surprise you around ever corner. Every part of the plot is well-executed and enjoyable, and you can feel the emotion of the characters.
---
Horizons - triggermoreliketiger (I know they have a Tumblr but I don't know what it is)
Summary:
The life of Roman del Rey was planned to the bits. Born in a wealthy family he was supposed to take over his father’s business. His last moments of freedom? The journey abroad. He couldn’t have predicted that when he would come back, everything he knew was about to change.
On the opposide side of social ladder, the genius inventor- Logan Sanders was struggling to make it through another day. His only chance? Get himself a sponsor rich enough to fund another year of Logan’s work. He couldn’t know that his last chance would blew up right into his face.
Genre: Angst
Ships: Prinxiety + Logicality
My thoughts: Holy crap I love this fic so much you wouldn't even believe. I adore the way everyone is characterized and Virgil and Patton are probably my favorites on that front. Just go read it, you won't regret it.
---
Patton's Break - Shay_Nioum (Tumblr: @/sidespromptblog)
Summary:
When Patton snaps one day, it directly affects Logan. A misunderstanding on Patton's part, and a broken heart on Logan's.
Genre: Angst
Ships: Platonic Logicality
My thoughts: I read this whenever I need to cry. It's such quality angst and I love it a lot. Logan is trying so hard, poor boi.
---
Ace Attorney
---
The Phantom's Curse - gen
Summary:
Everyone knows the story of the Phantom; usually mothers whisper it to their babies to get them to behave, or it's told around the campfires of travelers. What they don't know, however, is that it is very real, and the Phantom could be watching at any time, from any set of eyes.
Genre: Angst and Adventure
Ships: Wrightworth/Narumitsu
My thoughts: I'm a sucker for pirates. I love the way this fic was written and executed you you should go read it. Also: don't be me and waste time being suspicious of Kristoph because he ain't evil in this. Still a bit of an ass, though. All the references to the cases were nice and the whole plotline was just so fun and enjoyable.
---
A Beautiful Thing - wrightgotwronged
Summary:
"The Girl was offering me a way out...and I was desperate enough to believe her,"
Private Inspector Phoenix Wright is given the case of a lifetime when the mysterious Dahlia Hawthorne walks into his office. With a missing girl and murder on his plate, Phoenix is caught in a whirlwind of confusion and deceit. His past coming back to haunt him in the form of the District Attorney doesn't seem to help either.
Genre: Angst and Mystery
Ships: Eventual Wrightworth (Brief Phoenix/Dahlia)
My thoughts: I adore this fic. It's got a good, substantial mystery, and though most people can predict some of the turns it takes, it's a fun ride and 10/10 would read again.
---
Turnabout: Bloodline - MalikRuttingAssassinAss
Summary:
Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth collapses at work in the midst of a heated trial. What comes from his hospitalisation throws both his and Phoenix's worlds into mass confusion, exposing forgotten family secrets, a murder, and uncharted feelings.
Genre: Angst and Smut (with a side of Fluff and Comedy)
Ships: Wrightworth/Narumitsu
My thoughts: This is a fantastic storyline, Phoenix is also kind of an idiot for the first bit but it's still really entertaining and nice.
---
The Turnabout of Hazakura - MalikRuttingAssassinAss
Sequel to Turnabout: Bloodline
Summary:
Losing patience with the so-called "gift" of his lineage, Miles Edgeworth, along with Phoenix Wright, seeks the tutelage of the Nuns of Hazakura temple. Whilst hoping to control his "gift" with a punishing endurance regime, a horrific murder is discovered within the Temple grounds, and the evidence points towards one person.
Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Mystery, and Smut
Ships: Previously established, also developing Phoenix/Miles/Simon
My thoughts: This fic is incredible and I agree with Miles on the reveal of a certain plot point, honestly. But the mystery is well-executed and I just love the inclusion of Shi Long Lang (even though I haven't played either of the Investigations games).
---
sleep no more - prinsipe
Summary:
Blood is thicker than water.
Or: Klavier deals with the aftermath.
Klavier’s first memory of blood went a little like this: the turkey at the family dinner, the worn handle of the knife, and Kristoph’s brown hands.
In retrospect, it was those details that stuck out at him above all else—the family dinner, because it was the first and last of its kind, the worn handle of the knife because it made him think of how it looked like it was made for the grooves of Kristoph’s hands, and Kristoph’s hands because they moved in a way that made him think he was born for the kitchen, not the courtroom.
(Of course, as a child, it had slipped his mind that knives weren’t just used for cooking.)
Genre: Angst and minor Hurt/Comfort
Ships: Pretty Background Klapollo, implied past Daryan/Klavier
My thoughts: A very long but a very good fic. I love the way everyone is characterized, and honestly this is one of those stories that you get more out of it if you read it aloud. Klavier is just alone, and I love the way Apollo slowly helps him get back up.
---
Damage Control - pantswarrior
Summary:
After an emotional reaction from Phoenix following Edgeworth's return, Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death in truth. Fortunately for Phoenix, he doesn't quite succeed - and both of them have to learn a few lessons about communication.
Genre: Hurt/Comfort
Ships: Wirghtworth/Narumitsu
My thoughts: This is such a good story, but things have to get worse before they get better so read the tags and proceed with caution.
---
Lost in a Lie - court-ships (virtualbrownie)
Summary:
Miles Edgeworth learned to kill when he was a newborn, and he learns to love it at the age of six.
Genre: Angst and a bit of Horror
Ships: None
My thoughts: This is really dark, but I really like it and you should definitely proceed with caution. Warnings for character death, murder, animal death, and blood.
---
Intermetamorphosis - Jessepinwheel
Summary:
Or: Five Times Miles Edgeworth Didn't Know What Was Wrong With Phoenix and One Time He Wished He Didn't.
Or: God dammit Phoenix, stop shoving evidence in criminals' faces, or at least invest in a recorder.
Or: The story where Phoenix dies, but that doesn't stop him from being an ace attorney.
Genre: Comedy and Angst
Ships: None
My thoughts: This story is ridiculous but it's the good kind of ridiculous. There's just something so bizzarely funny about this happening that you just laugh at Miles's ignorance. Okay, that sounds mean, but really Miles?
---
Turnabout Santa Claus - lostangelssong
Summary:
A Christmas trial that could have been.
Genre: Comedy
Ships: None
My thoughts: It's literally just Miracle on 34th Street. That's all it is. But it's so gosh darn funny and ridiculous that I had to recommend it.
---
The Rise and Fall of the Stalk Trucy Wright Club - SlashPrincess15 (slashprincess15)
Summary:
Trucy Wright is a weird girl who makes all sorts of claims that cannot possible be true, at least that's what her school's student population believe. It all changes however when she starts getting picked up from school again.
Genre: Comedy and Angst
Ships: None
My thoughts: Such a nice fic, honestly. It's pretty funny, and the interactions Trucy has with the people that come to pick her up are fantastic.
---
The Realm - Farris
Summary:
It started off normal and innocent enough: a welcome home party for Iris.
But when a demon comes slashing through, bringing a world of ghosts and crazy with it, Maya Fey has no choice but to stand as Master to save her friends and restore balance to the Afterlife. Unfortunately, she's not Master yet. Nor is she sure she wants to be, given all that's happened to her and her family. Oh, and things only get worse when she discovers she must face a series of Trials to prove herself and her worthiness of said Master title.
Still very bitter about Kurain's role in DL-6, Miles Edgeworth finds himself having to come to terms with spiritual powers as he tags along to the realm between this world and the next. And then there are the monsters. And the gods, his father, and the Trials. Not to mention something is very much wrong with Wright... like the fact that he's not dead.
Genre: Action, Adventure, and Angst
Ships: None
My thoughts: Definitely in my top 10 favorite fics, if "A Beautiful Thing" is a 10/10, then this thing is off the scale. Also Gregory being a Good Dad™ deserves it's own book.

Meanwhile, in the Fairy Tale Land that was, Snow White and Prince Charming’s honeymoon turns out to be anything but romantic when they go in search of a mythical being that could stop Regina cold in her tracks.
Main Thoughts - Characters/Stories/Themes and Their Effectiveness
Past
Okay, so to start off, this flashback is admittedly a little pointless. Other than the theme of moments -- something so loose, it could’ve just been discussed in the present and the episode would’ve been fine as just a present events compilation -- there’s nothing that this story does to enhance the main one.
That having been said, I think it’s great! While something meatier could’ve gone here, I can’t honestly object that much when a story is just good. And the conflict between Snow and David is really solid. It’s one of those times where it doesn’t feel fully weighted in one direction. Like, we’re supposed to be on David’s side by the end of it, but Snow’s POV is completely understandable, especially after everything she’s been through (Not to mention, her confidence boost from “Lost Girl”). I like the idea of Snow being so caught up in he worries over Regina that she almost destroys her chance at happiness.
THAT having been said, I found the scene where Snow and Charming discuss turning Regina to stone to be so annoying. Charming references the flashback in “The Cricket Game,” a flashback that I LOATHE because of how much of a waste of time it is and how much of an idiot it makes Snow. And it gets worse. David says that they shouldn’t turn Regina to stone because Snow stayed her execution during that flashback when the resolution of that flashback was that Snow regretted that decision. Like, without this scene, the flashback would’ve not only been completely serviceable, but actually better for its absence!
Present
The opening of the present is just so amazingly shot. There’s this unequivocally happy tone from our mains and side characters that’s so satisfying, that for a moment, even knowing what was going on with Henry, I actually got swept up in it. It’s purely fantastic framing because you know this is exactly what they were going for.
And it kind of carries through throughout the rest of the episode. It feels like an epilogue at times, discussing resolution-y subjects like who (if anyone) will Emma end up with, establishing more of a co-parent-y relationship between Emma and Regina, curing David of his ails, having Rumple consider his future, and allowing for the minor characters to achieve their happy endings. Honestly, only when we cut to Henry do we get remember that the story is continuing, and I like it. It’s a subtle build of tension and will show just how much Pan’s curse will fuck everyone over in the next episode.
I also really liked the Emma and Regina conflict in this episode. It feels like the natural continuation of everything they’ve had to work through over the past two and a half seasons and was smartly placed just after the baby Henry flashbacks.
All Encompassing
This whole episode is the most lowkey David centric ever. Like, he’s in a supporting role, but it’s like the main supporting role. He gives out advice, he interacts with so many characters, and it’s just great! David’s character never needed to be a major major character and I feel like this episode captured the best of him.
“Moments” is the key theme of the episode. It’s interesting that the idea of moments plays more of a part in the flashback to our next episode, but I do like how the concept is introduced and implemented here. While the concept didn’t warrant an entire flashback, the idea of life having good and bad moments that just need to be felt and enjoyed when they can was a good basis for a Snow and Charming story with a good follow-through in the present with Emma. There’s a good contrast between those who can celebrate moments and someone who might not have that luxuary.
Insights - Stream of Consciousness
-The town celebration is really a thing of beauty (And kind of tragedy given that Henry’s not Henry...those Grumpy and Granny hugs are either sad as hell for that reason or funny as fuck because Pan is hugging all of these strangers and is probably realizing that his life just became a fantastical episode of Full House).
-You can tell how Jared loved every fucking second of being Pan! XD The dude lives for evil Henry!
-”That’s the last time I don’t listen to you.” ...When you can see the future, there’s irony fucking EVERYWHERE!
-You know, I just realized that Neal and Belle never had a proper introduction. For one thing, why is Belle not saying “Oh my fuck! You’re alive!” (That’s totally how she’d say it too XD ). For another, I’d have loved to see a proper introduction between the two of them. I need more Neal :( .
-Also would’ve liked the moment where Rumple ditches the cane to get a bit more umph to it. Like, that cane has been as much a part of him as the red cap is to Mario and it’s such a symbol of his cowardice that it would’ve been better to see it go.
-*Looks at a dude in a red beanie* The fuck you do to Smee, you little bitch?
-Okay, that Darling hug was fucking beautiful!
-Also, Snow giving Regina that level of cred was just beautiful! I found it to be a really good follow up to both what she saw in “Save Henry” and Regina’s harsh, but effective actions in “Nasty Habits.”
-Thoughts on how the reception went after Regina invaded the wedding? I’d like to think Snow and Charming played it cool and confident for the guests, but, like we’re seeing, were reeling on the inside.
-”Steal her magic.” Well, in one realm, you actually DO that! The results were...mixed, to say the least. BUT we got Alice, the best person ever out of the deal so it was ultimately worth it.
-So I have to wonder: If Regina hadn’t made these threats, would Snow have still wanted to go to the Summer Palace? Like, it seems to connect really well to her parents, so i could totally see Snow doing that.
-Damn. Grumpy is just the ultimate support. He’s on better terms with Charming, but is still 1000% loyal to Snow.
-Plenty of cell space?! Storybrooke needs an equivalent to juvie! Like, Felix is a villain for sure, but he’s a kid! Jail -- which in Storybrooke is basically full-on solitary confinement -- seems a little excessive.
-”As long as I’m alive, that boy will never see the light of day.” ...Yeah. About that…
-”Her name is Tinker Bell.” I actually fucking clapped. Yes, Queen! Slay and filet that shady shimmering shithead for what she did to Tink!
-”You don’t believe in yourself anymore.” FUCK YOU, BLUE. Look, I’ve said in past reviews that Blue’s not as much shady as she is the world’s strictest and assholey beauraucrat, but being that kind of person WILL merit a level of scorn. Look at that almost half smile on her face. Keegan plays that well. “How can I believe in you if you can’t even do that?” FUCK YOU!
-”I need a drink.” You and me both! Shame I can’t get a drink at 8am!
-I love that emphasis David puts on the word “threat” in the woods. He’s nagging it up!
-You know, Pan kind of got the ball rolling on Emma and Regina’s active non-animosity filled co-parenting.Give the dude a little credit.
-How is Pan so unimpressed by Henry’s room? Like, that’s a nice room! With all sorts of tech and comics and stuff! Be a little more impressed, you little shit!
-”I’ll protect you. No matter what.” And the award for the most adorable non-Regal Believer Regal Believer moment goes to… *cries*
-Prince Charming, everyone, number one causes of deforestation in the Enchanted Forest. XD
-”Are you sure you want to condemn Regina to a fate like that?” Dude, she killed Snow’s dad (Who to be fair, was pretty much shit, but you guys didn’t know it at the time), indirectly killed your mom, tried to kill you, poisoned Snow, AND ruined your wedding! I love Regina and I’m so happy she got redeemed, but at the time of this episode, being turned to stone was rather warranted.
-”Killing her wasn’t the answer.” And then she decided at the end of that episode that it was!
-”Last time, she threatened us.” No she didn’t. She regretted not causing MORE death!
-SHEEP BROS!
-Snow, David. Did you really schedule your lunch to coincide with Emma and Neal’s date? That was...bad planning. Like, you don’t even do that with Killian!
-”Does he eat with his mouth open?” Either Charming has misophonia or that was a Kristoph reference!
-Killian...I’m honestly not sure what to make with that Tink scene. On one hand, I see it as Killian trying in vain to get over Emma, but being unable to, showing that he really does love her. BUT it also comes off as a “you still have a ways to go” moment because Killian’s flirting can be a little...really off putting. I don’t know exactly what to make of that because the framing is a little wonky there.
-”Perhaps.” That having been said, the misunderstanding at Granny’s with Emma, Tink, and Killian had me laughing out loud. That one’s better at insinuating “you fucking dork.”
-YES, SHADOW! GIVE THAT BLUE BITCH A SCARE! KILLING HER MIGHT BE A TOUCH EXCESSIVE, BUT IT’S STILL PRETTY FUN TO WATCH!
-Also, this park is just beautiful. I really wish we spent more time in later seasons at these parks. Like, they’re such pretty places to have scenes instead of the pretty generic looking woods that we got in the later seasons.
-Evil Jared Gilmore cracks me the fuck up!
-Not gonna lie, a dungeon crawl like this would make for the best honeymoon ever!
-”Promise you won’t touch anything?” “Promise.” LIAR!
-”Rumple.” I love how Belle just nagged him. It’s a very Belle-like way of encouraging him to do good without making a whole speech of things.
-Okay, so even the “Entering Storybrooke” sign makes me whimper like a little bitch, too!
-Ooh! I love that Golden Swan moment! Rumple and Emma’s dynamic isn’t shown a lot, but when it is, it’s really something special. While not enough to earn it the “Favorite Dynamic” of the episode, it is incredibly cool to see Emma and Rumple come to that moment of begrudging respect and trust at the town line.
-Holy crap! The rest of the cast pulled off “Penry’s” escape from Pandora’s Box so well. Everyone immediately grows tense and grabs their loved ones. They’re actually scared shitless, a testament to how terrifying pan is.
-Damn, in hindsight, this is dark as hell. Emma has a gun to Henry’s head, and even though he’s in another body, this is a kid!
-Awww! I love Henry hugging Snow and David! We don’t always get a ton of moments of them together, so this was really special!
-I actually needed a solid minute to recover from the way that “Han” just smoothly magicked Regina. Like, that was so freakin’ fluid! “I know. That’s why this was so easy.” Pan, you bastard!
-These hugs with Henry in Pan’s body crack me up for some reason.
-I’m not sure if Storybrooke being the New Neverland is an upgrade or a downgrade. On one hand, you get all of the modern tech and indoor plumbing. On the other hand, no pixie dust and the suburbs are boring.
Arcs - How Are These Storylines Progressing?
The Mission to Save Henry - I love how in so many ways, this feels like an epilogue and then is like FUCK NO. So much comes together and it feels like everything’s winding down, but the action continues in such a fun whirlwind of a way! This whole arc has been a roller coaster and a fun one at that!
Rumple’s Redemption - “On the house.” How much you want to bet Rumple was DYING inside as he said that? “I’m sure if I ever needed a favor, you’d be more than receptive.” Rumple, my boy. You’ve come quite far, but you still have so far to go! But seriously, you do see more of how Rumple’s come into his own redemption. First, his focus is squarely on making Belle happy. Second, he does actually show that he has trust in Emma by allowing her to see what’s up with Pan.
Regina’s Redemption - We get two really great steps in showing how far Regina’s come. First, she stands up for Tinkerbell against Blue. While Regina’s had no problem standing up to Blue in the past, it’s always been for her own sake. This time, she’s standing up for Tink’s sake! The second instance is her grief that Pan fooled her. I say this because it’s so clear how at this point, she genuinely wants Henry to be with her because it’s his choice and how saddened she was by the fact that when her dream came true, it was only a lie. I love Regal Believer and seeing how much Regina’s broken that chain of abuse is something so special.
Favorite Dynamic
Emma and David. There were a lot of great dynamics on display in this episode, but I love how we got our first real David and Emma moment. Daddy Charming is one of the lesser explicitly shown dynamics on the show, but interactions like these show just how powerful it is. There’s an adorably bit of father/daughter banter between them when talking about their love life, David gives Emma solid honest-to-goodness advice that actually does come back later on in the episode, and he’s so comforting. He knows Emma’s dealt with so much and he just wants her to be happy. The scene they share provides a nice calm before the storm and shows that while Emma and David didn’t have that friendship that Emma and Snow had, they do have that strong bond.
Writer
This is Andrew Chambliss’ first solo episode! And honestly, not a bad job! Andrew did a great job balancing screen time between the eight mains and roughly eight minor characters in half an episode’s worth of time, and that’s honestly impressive! The stories themselves are relatively simpler, with the present storyline using resolution as a cleverly deceptive way of making it seem more sprawling than it is.
Rating
10/10. This is an honestly great episode. While not perfect, it provides for a lot of nice moments between characters, an underlying tenseness that is well delivered on when it’s ready for shit to get real, and a more unified Storybrooke.
Flip My Ship - The Home of All Things “Shippy Goodness”
Ariel/Eric - These two are so fucking lovey dovey and their reunion is just the cutest sweetest thing ever!
Rumbelle - Like, from the second -- the SECOND -- these two see each other when Rumple gets off the ship, that’s all the other sees. They’re laser-glued to the other. And the hug is just so perf! Also, THE UP PARALLELS STARTED HERE WITH THE FUCKING TIE! I KNOW IT’S NOT THE SAME KIND OF TIE, BUT FUCK! THAT’S AMAZING! XD Also also, the scene at the shop as a whole is just so romantic. There’s a beautiful theme to it and Robert Fucking Carlyle owns my soul. Every line is just so pretty, and I say that both as a testament to the writing and Robert himself. And Emiliee is no slouch either! She’s so in love and there’s an utter sincerity to it.
Captain Swan - Killian’s decision to back off was just the sweetest. It genuinely shows how he cares for Henry and Emma and doesn’t want to pressure either of them. It doesn’t mean he won’t pursue her if she goes after him, but he wants to let the chips fall, even if they aren’t in his favor. That’s just...honestly, I love it. Killian, your looks aren’t the only devilishly handsome part of you. <3 Also, I like how Emma remarks that Killian is still an option. When David’s trying to convince her to go out with Neal, she points out that he’s trying to keep her away from Killian.
Swan Fire - Snow is just the biggest Swan Fire shipper and it’s pretty cute! Also, Neal’s way of asking Emma out was equally adorable! It takes a degree of pressure off of her and is asked in such a cute way! It’s got a nice youthfulness to it! Also, let’s talk about how sad Neal is when it looks like Emma won’t show. Also also, Emma later implies that her date with Neal would be “enjoying herself.”
Snowing - David loves the fuck out of Snow and that makes me feel all of the things! He wants to enjoy his marriage to her and wants her to be able to relax and enjoy it with him! BUT he also knows her so freakin’ well. He KNOWS when she sneaks off and is just there waiting for her (In one of the show’s most underrated funny moments). And he’s totally willing to give up his honeymoon to follow her into danger! Prince Charming, everyone! And to some extent, Snow KNEW he was gonna do that because she brought the sword. Also, the couple banter in this episode is just so en pointe! I especially love David’s speech to Snow about how he knew what he was getting into when they fell in love. And the kisses and inevitable sex at the end is just the best! And in the present, that BIG DAMN KISS once he’s cured! It’s so beautiful!

Emaziska 007 AU Sequel: Vindicta Chapter 7
We watched Fran get to the car. She was absolutely stunned. “Did she find it?” Zak asked. “Yeah… she did,” I said, holding back a laugh. “Give me the binoculars. I gotta see this,” he said. “Just a second”. She walked over to the drivers side and just stared at it in utter disbelief. Oh man, I feel bad but it’s so fucking funny. I gave Zak the binoculars. He laughed. “Oh man, she is so disappointed. I feel bad cuz I just met her but I can’t help it,”he said. I watched as she got out of the car and realized we had actually given her the Aston Martin. Her look of disbelief had a positive meaning rather than a negative one. I smiled. There was a knock at the door. I walked over, gun in hand. “Who is it?” I asked. “It’s me”. It was Gavin. I opened the door. “Did 007 arrive?” he asked. “Didn’t you see her downstairs? She went looking for you,” I asked. He raised a brow in confusion. “No, I didn’t see her. Why was she looking for me?”.
Fran has a pretty good eye. I’m sure she would have found him. Where could he have been really? “Q called for you”. He nodded. “I’ll go call him back then”. “Might as well call L while you're at it too,” Zak said. I looked at him confused. Gavin went to his room. “L wants 007 watched,” Zak said. Now I'm completely lost. “Like you did on that mission from several months ago. That's why Kristoph is on this mission,” he added. “But I thought he's been here. He was our intelligence officer that we stationed here,” I said. “No. I was. I was stationed here to gather the intel we have now. L just told you that so neither one of you would suspect something. It's no secret that he's a perfectionist. He's the perfect person to keep her in line and according to L, you failed to do that”. “We completed that mission the best way we could. I didn't hear L complain,” I shot back. He raised his hands in defense. “Listen, I'm not saying that. I'm just telling you what she said. I don't think 007 needs to be watched. She more than capable of completing this mission. However, you don't think she's ready. Do you?” Zak said. I didn't know what to say. To be honest, I’m nervous if something happens. What if she can't properly defend herself? She's not in shape like she was. I don't care if she passed those test, she's not ready. She shouldn't be here. I can't risk losing her again. I can't go through that all over again. “I think there's too much risk in losing our best agent,” I said. He sighed. “What's life without a little risk? It makes us appreciate what we have, knowing we can lose it at any second. Especially when the stakes are high,” Zak said as he walked to the door. I nodded. “You have her now, Ema. Make every second count”. He left. I stood in the room alone, thinking about what he said.
I heard a knock at my door. “Not now, Zak”. “It's me,” Fran said. I got up and opened the door. “Enjoy the gift?” I asked. “So you were in on that little stunt?”. I flashed a devious smile. She chuckled. “How cruel. Anyway, I've got an interesting story to tell you,” Fran said, walking in. “Hm, knowing you, I'm not surprised”. I'm sure she's got quite a few interesting stories. She just got here, what could have possibly happened? She turned the chair at the table and sat down, crossing her leg over the other. She looked up at me. “Well, I have other ways of surprising but that's not important right now. I saw Swallow leaving. Something seemed off so I followed him. Turns out he was meeting with someone. I couldn't see who; they were hidden,” Fran said. “A partner maybe?”. Franziska shook her head. “No. He definitely has Swallow playing for him but it's by force. Apparently, if he doesn't cooperate they'll kill him and someone close to him”. So Swallow is being used. I'll have to talk to Lana. “Also, I met a woman in the lobby. Dahlia Hawthorne. We know anything about her?”. Dahlia Hawthorne. Nothing sticks out to me. Might just be a nobody. “I don't believe so”. She nodded. “You didn't find out anything else?” I asked. “Unfortunately not. To think I almost got myself killed”. She's only been here four hours and she has already managed to put herself in danger. Well, it's not like people like us can avoid it. She got up and walked to the door connecting our rooms. I rushed over and grabbed her hand. She stopped in the doorway and looked at me confused. “Yes?”. I didn't really know what I wanted to say. I don't think i wanted to say anything. “Is something wrong, dear?” she asked, looking a little worried. I looked down. “I…”. Say something, Ema. Tell her something. I looked back up at her. “I care about you. Y'know?” I said. She smiled. “Yes. I care about you too”. “Please, be more careful”. She was hesitant to oblige. I know our work is dangerous but even if it was an empty promise, hearing her say she will would put me at ease. “Alright, Ema,” she finally said. I flashed a faint smile.
She walked in. “You almost ready?” Ema asked. “Yes, just need to put on a tie,” I replied. I was having trouble with the bowtie. I had another fucking hallucination and it's making the simplest task difficult. Ema walked over to me. “Let me”. She started tying the bowtie. “If you know how to tie a tie then how come you don't wear them?” I asked. She chuckled. “I prefer a tits out sort of look”. I smiled. She finished and smiled at me. She cupped my cheek. “Very handsome”. “Thank you. You look rather dashing yourself,” I replied. She kissed my cheek. Someone knocked on the door. “You two ready?” Zak asked from the other side. “We better get going,” Ema said. I nodded in agreement and we executed the room. Zak stood in the hallway with another man. He was average height and had blonde hair. He wore a dark blue tux. “Finally! C'mon, let's get the show on the road,” Zak said. The other man turned to us. “007. What a pleasure to finally meet you. Kristoph Gavin,” he said, extending his hand. I shook it. “The feeling’s mutual. You've been very busy these past couple feeling. He chuckled. “You have no idea”. “Alright. Now that everyone's introduced let's get going. The game will start any minute now,” Zak said. We headed toward the elevator.
“Good luck, von Karma,” Zak said. “We'll be rooting for you, 007” Ema said. “Thanks”.
We all sat down at the table, ready to play. Swallow sat across from me. He stared at me. Does he know? “Are we ready?” the dealer asked. We nodded. “High card for dealer position”. We were each given a card. I got a six of clubs. We laid the cards face up on the table. “Mr. Galactica get's dealer position. Small blind is $5,000, Mr. Wellington. Big blind is $10,000, Ms. Miwa,” the dealer said. I saw Ms. Hawthorne coming to the table. She gave me a lingering look at she walked over to Swallow. “Good luck, darling,” she said. She kissed him and walked away. He shot me a cold stare. She's with Swallow. She must be the leverage they have over him. If he screws this up she's dead.
We watched from the bar. “I don't think we could have picked a better agent for this. She's got the best poker face I've ever seen. So hard to get a read on her,” Zak said. “what makes you so sure?” Gavin asked. Kristoph has never met Fran so I'm not surprised he isn't aware just how good of a agent she is. Though, not to brag or anything,  having 00 status should be proof enough. “I played her when she got here. I've never been beaten before. Not even by you, Kristoph. She beat me easily. It was child's play. It's impossible to get a read on her. So much so that you wouldn't dare call her bluff,” Zak replied. “I think agent Skye would've been just as good. Probably even better. Let's remember that 008 is more physically and mentally adept right now,” Gavin said. “What exactly are you trying to say?” I asked. “She could barely shoot a still target. Her mind is broken. On top of that, she's an alcoholic. It's a wonder how she was cleared for field duty”. He has some guts saying that. He doesn't even know her. How could he judge whether or not she's capable? “I suggest you think before you speak, Kristoph,” I said. “Or what, Ms. Skye?”. “I've already thought of a hundred different ways I could kill you without getting a single person's attention. I have 00 status as well. Don't forget how I obtained that status,” I said. I took a sip of my martini. He scoffed and walked away. “Damn, Skye. You are Lana's sister,” Zak said.
“Ms. von Karma wins this round. Time for a break. Game continues in twenty minutes,” the dealer said. I got up and headed toward the other. Swallow stopped me. “I know,” he said. He knows I'm the MI6 agent. So much for keeping him in the dark. Time  to act dumb. “You know…?”. “Don’t play stupid. My eyes and ears here told me about your confrontation with my wife. If stay away from my wife or I’ll kill you,” he said. I looked at him stunned. I truly was taken aback by his words. Would a man like him really kill me for simply talking to his wife. Seems if I so much as breathed the same air as her, he’d put a bullet in me. Swallow walked away. When he passed Ms. Hawthorne, they exchanged lingering cold stares.
“So, Dahlia is Swallow's wife. Turns out she could be important,” Ema said. I hummed in agreement. “Maybe we could get some information out of her,” Zak said. “How on earth would we do that? The minute we mention anything, it'll scare her off,” Kristoph said. He's right. Her life is at risk. If one of us interferes, she could be killed. That wouldn't do us any good. “007, she taken quite a like to you. Work your magic on her,” Ema said. I looked at her, stunned. “You want me to flirt with another man's woman. He just threatened me. He could have me killed for that,” I responded. “Oh, please. When has that ever stopped you before?” Ema shot back. I didn't have a comeback. Honestly, I would feel bad. Ema's right here. “007, if we could get important intel from her then you need to do this. Don't sweat it. You're smooth and women love you. I know it, you know, most of the women at HQ know it. You got this,” Zak said. I was still unsure. “Come with me for a second,” Ema said, pulling me to the side. “Listen, I know why you're holding back on this. Don't worry about me...about us. There's no us to worry about,” Ema said. There's no us? What do you mean there's no us? She must be bloody joking. “What do you mean?” I asked. “C'mon, Fran. Don't pretend. We… we can act like a couple all we want but it won't happen,” she said. What the fuck is she talking about? Is she serious. She couldn't even look me in the fucking eye when she said that. I can't believe this. “Alright, fine,” I said. “Seriously? I was expecting you to fight me on this,” she joked. I glared at her. “I don't participate in fights that aren't worth it,” I said coldly. I walked away before she could say anything else.
“I think you should go with 008's plan. And don't feel guilty,” Gavin said. “What do mean?”. “You two are not very inconspicuous. If you want my opinion on it, don't make it anything more than sex. It won't work well in the workplace,” he answered. I grabbed him by his jacket. “I don't think this is the right place to act like a animal, 007”. I pushed him away and went over to Ms. Hawthorne. “Ms. von Karma. I must say, I'm impressed,” she said. “You were watching?”. She nodded. “I didn't expect you to play as good as you look”. She's quite a flirt herself. “It's one of many skills I possess,” I responded. She flashed a sly grin. “Hm. I look forward to seeing your other skills”. Her fingers traced over my chest. “I look forward to showing you,” I responded. “You're not worried about my husband? I could tell he gave you trouble,” Ms. Hawthorne said. “Well, he did say something about killing me if I didn't stay away from you”. She laughed. “He won't do anything. Doug's too much of coward,” Ms. Hawthorne replied. He doesn't seem like the violent type. Ms. Hawthorne herself could kick his ass. “I can't stand cowardly men”. I raised a brow. “Then why be with him?” I asked. She smiled sweetly. “Well, he cares for me,” she said. “And you'd still cheat on him, knowing he cares for you?”. Ms. Hawthorne chuckled. “You ask a lot of questions”. I shrugged. She took a sip of her champagne. “He takes care of me but my particular needs are left unsatisfied”. “Well, we'll have to fix that won't we?”.

Okay I'll try this one more time: Klavier and Simon finally FINALLY get a day off and they decide to go out to eat. They end up drinking a bit after and Klav gets a little drunk, and Simon takes him home (in Klav's car actually, he still has his hog but has since decided to also get a car). On the way there, Klav is quiet but then says, "Is it wrong to still care about someone that killed? To still love them?" suddenly vulnerable and in tears, and Simon knows exactly what he means ('Foolbright')
More Simon and Klav friendship angst is alwaysgood!  (In case you didn’t see it, Iwrote something a little similar herearound a week ago too!)
-----
“Andhere I thought you were going to show up here with your motorcycle,” Simongreeted Klavier as he opened the passenger-side door and got in the vehicle, which still had that new-car smell.
“Nein…I had a feeling you wouldn’t bewilling to sit behind me with your hands tightly around my waist,” Klavierlaughed, pulling out into the street once Simon was buckled in.
“Perhapsyou know me better than I gave you credit for, Klavier.”
Withthe prosecutorial staff still undermanned, it had felt like ages since Klavierand Simon had a day off at the same time. Their odd friendship had come about through mutual complaints aboutbeing overworked and brief lunches and dinners when they were both staying lateat the office.  Simon had been a bitsurprised – but not unpleasantly so – when Klavier suggested they go out for anactual meal on their shared offday.
Therestaurant was fancier than their normal eateries, complete with wine glasseson the table and cloth napkins.  Klavierhad said that they made enough money and should enjoy themselves at least oncein a while, even though Simon never really saw the purpose of these “atmospheric”type places.  As long as the food wasgood, who really cared about the quality of the fork you ate with?
Butmaybe Klavier was on to something…after all, he really couldn’t eat at WhetSoba all the time.
Klavierended up getting steak and potatoes while Simon went for a pasta with eggplantdish.
“Forsome reason I always forget that you’re vegetarian,” Klavier said after theyput in their order.  “Were you one beforeprison, or is this a new thing?”
“Before,”Simon answered.  “I was quite the animallover.”
“War?” Klavier laughed and Simon rolled his eyes at the gratuitous German.  “I think your tense is wrong there, Simon.  Who else in the office has a perch for theirbeloved pet?”
“Takais not a pet,” Simon said with adisapproving frown.  “She is a companion.”
Klaviershrugged, not really seeing the difference, but decided to let it go.  After all, Simon was always a bit testy whenit came to his treasured hawk, and they weretrying to enjoy themselves here.
“Ja, my mistake.  How about some wine?”
Aglass or two couldn’t hurt, Simon agreed, and watched as Klavier beckoned theirwaitress over and asked for her opinion. Of course he flashed her that dazzling smile of his and Simon saw thetransformation of her face into a bright pink color as she stammered whileanswering him.
Soonthey had a bottle of red wine that was most likely overpriced, but…it wasn’thalf bad.
“Iwouldn’t be surprised if she gave you her number,” Simon said, once thewaitress was out of earshot.  Klaviergulped down more than a bit of his wine before responding.
“Evenif she did, I have no interest,” he said. “This is just for show.”
“You’resuch a gentleman,” Simon sarcastically replied, earning a chuckle from hisfriend across the table.
“I’mglad you think so.  Your opinion is quiteimportant to me.”
Itwas Simon’s turn to laugh.
“Iwas being serious, you know,” Klavier said with a small smile on his face andan earnest look in his eyes.  It wassurprising, hearing that…since when did their friendship get to that sort ofpoint, Simon wondered?
Aquestion for another time, as their delivered food distracted him.
And damn it was good.
Theremainder of their meal consisted of some office gossip (usually centeredaround Payne, because he was such an easy target), brief discussions aboutpersonal lives, and some talk of their current cases.
Evenafter their meals were finished, they stayed, genuinely enjoying each other’scompany and feeling the weight of their stressful lives and jobs temporarilylifted from their shoulders.  Simonsipped at his wine slowly, while Klavier began drinking more and began drinkingfaster.  When they finished the secondbottle, Simon was still only on his second glass, and had actually stopped drinkingit some time ago.
Afterall, with Klavier downing glass after glass after glass like that…Simon knew hewas going to be the one driving back.
Theyleft a sizable tip for their waitress and Simon ended up having to help Klavierout of the restaurant and into his car. While he wasn’t completely wasted,he was swaying a bit and said he had felt dizzy upon standing, so Simon had letKlavier put his arm around him as they walked. It was during this time that Simon had grabbed Klavier’s keys from hispocket.
Surprisingly,he didn’t really get any strong protest.
“Doyou even know how to drive,” Klavier asked as Simon strapped him in.
“Ofcourse I do.  I just don’t have a car.”
AndSimon closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side, getting in afteradjusting the seat for his long legs.  Hehoped he remembered how to get back to his apartment from here…Klavier wouldprobably protest at being forced to stay at Simon’s place, but there was no waythat Simon was going to let him drive in his condition.
Theygot on the road, and Klavier settled comfortably in his seat, turning so he wason his side and looking at Simon intently, saying nothing for a few blocks.  When Simon noticed this, he shifted a littlebit.
“Whatis it, Klavier?”
“…CanI ask you something?”  His voice was evenquieter than normal, but Simon still chuckled, figuring it was probably abouthis music or a case or something along those lines.
“Hai,” Simon answered in Japanese, partially as a way to poke fun of the constant littering of German that Klavierwould sprinkle throughout his sentences. However, his joke clearly went over the man’s head, because all Klavierdid was narrow his eyes in confusion.  Ohwell, it was funny enough to Simon at least. “Yes, Klavier, what is it?”
Klavierdidn’t respond immediately.  He seemed tohesitate, if Simon could believe it, almost as if he was no longer completelysure of the question.
“Do…doyou think it is still wrong to still care about someone…who has killed?”  Klavier’s voice waivered towards the end ofthat question, and he even seemed to curl up a bit more in the seat.  “To…still love them?”
WhileSimon knew he had to pay attention to the road, he couldn’t help but look over;Klavier’s eyes were no longer on him, but were looking down and away.  They were glossy, and Klavier sniffled, clearly fighting back tears.
Kristoph…that’swho this was about.
“Howlong have you been thinking this, Klavier?” Simon avoided the question at first, wanting to ignore the dreadfulchurning of his stomach that had started.
“Iguess ever since the day Kris…toph was arrested,” Klavier mumbled.  Originally he had used his nickname for hisolder brother, but felt odd, so awkwardly added the second half of Kristoph’sname after a brief pause.  “But…you didn’tanswer my question.  Is it wrong?”
Damn.  Well, even while drunk Klavier was perceptiveenough.  Simon shook his head.
“No,Klavier, it isn’t wrong.”  He grippedtighter onto the steering wheel and grit his teeth together as memories of acertain vivacious detective came into the forefront of his mind.  “Stupid and foolish, maybe, but not wrong.”
“Howdo you know?”
Simonpaused as he remembered.  He rememberedhow his Fool Bright had charged into his life, causing him headache afterheadache as he messed up his cases with stupid mistakes that a rookie wouldn’teven make.  He remembered how his FoolBright had always talked about rehabilitating him…how he had believed in hisinnocence, and swore to be by his side.  Heremembered how he finally broke and spoke about his fears as his execution daydrew closer and closer, and how his Fool Bright actually reached out and held him, and how, in that moment, Simonfelt like…everything was going to be alright.
Andhe remembered standing at the prosecutor’s bench, staring down his Fool Brightand learning that…everything was fake. None of it was real; his Fool Bright didn’t even exist to him, really.
Butit wasn’t that simple, was it?
Simonkept dreaming about the detective.  Aboutthe moments they spent together and about what the future could have broughthad things been different.  He alsodreamt of Bobby Fulbright’s death…how did he die, exactly?  Simon often wondered about that.  Too often.
Hehated his Fool Bright.  He hated him somuch for his treachery and his deceitful words. He hated him for killing his genius and wonderful mentor, and forcausing great anguish to his sister and to Athena.
Mostof all, though…he hated himself because he knew he still loved his Fool Bright.
Buthe said none of this to Klavier.
Instead,an angry tear just rolled down his cheek.
“Trustme…I know.”
