American painter and a mixed media artist: Howardena Pindell
Tumblr media
Brought into the world in Philadelphia in 1943, Howardena Pindell contemplated painting at Boston University and Yale University. Subsequent to graduating, she acknowledged a task in the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books at the Museum of Modern Art, where she stayed for a very long time.
Pindell frequently utilizes extensive, allegorical cycles of annihilation/remaking. Howardena Pindell prints are very famous. She cuts materials in strips and sews them back together, developing surfaces in intricate stages. She paints or draws on pieces of paper, finishes off specks from the paper utilizing a paper opening punch, drops the spots onto her material, lastly wipers paint through the "stencil" left in the paper from which she had punched the dabs. Constantly, her artistic creations are introduced unstretched, held to the divider only by the strength of a couple of completing nails. The craftsman's interest with gridded, serialized symbolism, alongside surface shows up all through her oeuvre. Indeed, even in her later, more politically charged work, Pindell returns to these topical concentrations to address social issues of vagrancy, AIDs, war, destruction, sexism, xenophobia, and politically-sanctioned racial segregation.
With a profession traversing over 50 years, Howardena Pindell reports that she could fill a 100-page list of qualifications. Her work mismatches mediums and styles, from opening punch artworks to video exhibitions. These investigate prejudice, sexism, savagery, and—after a close lethal auto collision—the craftsman's very own recollections. Each work utilizes little pieces that together structure a firm entirety. Pindell has spent a vocation investigating the potential outcomes of minuscule paper chads, modest number drawings, pieces of sparkle, and nearly everything in the middle.
Howardena Pindell grew up around expressions of the human experience. Her folks regularly took her on historical center visits around Philadelphia and Boston. Pindell refers to these trips as key strides in her creative excursion, which later took her to Boston University and Yale. In the wake of moving on from the last with a MFA, Pindell looked for some kind of employment as the primary Black lady guardian at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
In graduate school, deliberation entranced Pindell. She associated shapes and images to recollections from her youth, just as the aggregate encounters of Black Americans. Circles, for instance, help the craftsman to remember old dish sets. During the 1950s, cafés added little red dabs to glasses and utensils to separate them for minorities. Propelled by that image of isolation, Pindell utilized an opening punch in her initial, semi-sculptural artworks.
Social equity activities were similarly significant in the improvement of Pindell's imaginative style. She helped dispatch A.I.R. Display, the primary workmanship space made only by and for ladies specialists while curating at the MoMA. Pindell consistently occupied with the rising rush of 1970s woman's rights while instructing her partners on her encounters as a Black lady.
Pindell felt progressively disconnected on all sides as her vocation progressed. Numerous in the Black imaginative local area supported metaphorical workmanship over her reflection, and she routinely experienced segregation at the historical center. Pindell utilized craftsmanship as an outlet to communicate her dissatisfaction and to talk about friendly issues. "I built up various apparatuses for internal looking… to see how bigotry and sexism work inside the craftsmanship local area just as the local area everywhere," Pindell later expressed for the Brooklyn Museum.
In 1979, Pindell quit her situation at the MoMA and began educating at Stony Brook University. Misfortune struck during her first semester. Pindell was associated with a genuine auto crash that gave her a blackout and enduring cognitive decline. The occasion was a defining moment in Pindell's life. "I thought, in the event that I could have kicked the bucket so rapidly [in the accident], I couldn't have ever communicated my assessment," Pindell disclosed to The New York Times. "That began me taking a gander at my life again and contemplating what I felt about the world."
After the mishap, Pindell began another blended media arrangement to recover her recollections and begin shouting out about friendly issues. She began utilizing her assortment of pictures and postcards to assemble eye-formed masterpieces. The impending Swann Galleries deal will highlight one of these pieces from Pindell's Oval Memory Series. Captioned (Rhinoceros) Heaven, this work highlights postcards, punched paper, sparkle, string, nails, and a few sorts of paint. It seems theoretical when taken all in all. After looking into it further, the watcher can see cityscapes and pathways among the blues and greens. (Rhinoceros) Heaven is the primary piece from Oval Memory Series to come to sell. It has a presale gauge of USD 50,000 to $75,000.

Pound-for-pound stars are first ever female fighters to headline an MSG event in the iconic venue’s 140 years of boxing history
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are set to make history in an epic battle for Taylor’s undisputed Lightweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday April 30, live worldwide on DAZN.
TO SIGN UP TO THE EXCLUSIVE PRESALE, VISIT MSG.COM/TAYLORSERRANO Presale begins at 12noon ET on Thursday February 3, with tickets on general sale at 12noon ET on Friday February 4 – tickets start at $56 (plus fees)
Years in the making, the biggest fight ever in women’s boxing between the pound-for-pound #1 and #2 fighters of the world is one that will not only make boxing history, but women’s sports history. MSG has hosted thousands of fights through its illustrious years, beginning more than a century ago on July 17, 1882; now, 140 years later, this matchup finally marks the very first time two female fighters are headlining a combat sports event at 'The World’s Most Famous Arena'. Irish icon Taylor (20-0 6 KOs) puts all the Lightweight belts on the line for the sixth time since winning them in June 2019 in a war with Delfine Persoon and seeing off the Belgian in a rematch in England before repelling the challenges of Miriam Gutierrez, Natasha Jonas, Jennifer Han and Firuza Sharipova – and there’s added spice to the fight as Taylor holds a win over Amanda’s sister Cindy in Boston back in October 2018. Puerto Rican sensation Serrano (42-1-1 30 KOs) already has an unrivalled legacy in the sport as a seven-weight World champion. The Brooklyn based champion enters the momentous bout in sparkling form after knocking out Daniela Bermudez last March, dominating Yamileth Mercado in August and overpowering Miriam Gutierrez in two separate cards co-starring Jake Paul. Amanda was the 2021 Female Fighter of the Year for DAZN, ESPN and WBC among others. “This is a fight I've wanted for a long, long time and I'm just excited for it to finally take place because these are the kind of fights I'm in the sport for,” said Taylor. “People have been talking about this fight for years and there have been times I wondered if it was ever going to happen so I'm very grateful to Eddie Hearn, everyone at Matchroom, DAZN and Madison Square Garden for getting it over the line. “When I turned professional my goal was to be involved in huge events like this so to headline at Madison Square Garden in a fight of this magnitude is really the pinnacle of the sport. It's such an iconic venue and has been home to so many of the historic moments in boxing and I truly believe this will be another one.” “It is a dream come true to have the opportunity to headline Madison Square Garden and do so against one of the greatest boxers of all time in Katie Taylor,” said Serrano. “Since I was a young girl, my only boyfriend has been boxing. I have dedicated my life to him, and this event makes that commitment worth every minute. On April 30th I am going to make history for me, for my team, for my family, for Puerto Rico, for every Latina and Latino and for all women worldwide.” From the moment Katie Taylor stepped into my office, this is the moment we always dreamed of,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “The moment the world would stop and watch and watch the two greatest female fighters on the planet headline at the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden. “Taylor vs. Serrano is a fight for the history books. Yes, it’s the by far the biggest female fight of all time but it’s also one of the biggest fights of all time, the undisputed World and Olympic champion against the seven division World champion. “Both fighters deserve credit for getting this fight made, as does Jake Paul and his team at Most Valuable Promotions, DAZN and Madison Square Garden - together we’re going to put on a special night in New York and create a fitting spectacle for these trailblazers to shine.” “We are honored to be a part of this historic event, headlined by two historically dominant women. Bringing attention to women’s boxing has been a priority for us and Saturday April 30th is a major milestone for not just the sport but girls globally who deserve equal opportunity," said Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, Co-Founders of Most Valuable Promotions. “We expect a battle for the ages and have the utmost respect and admiration for Katie Taylor. But make no mistake, we are standing next to Amanda Serrano and know she will prove to the world that she is the pound-for-pound greatest female boxer to ever enter the ring. This is more than a fight, this is for forever.” “This is without question the biggest fight ever in women’s boxing,” said Ed Breeze, DAZN EVP, Rights. “Katie Taylor is a trailblazer in the sport, with a perfect amateur record and pivotal in catapulting women’s boxing into the mainstream. Serrano is a true legend and will be Taylor’s toughest test to date. This fight will be spectacular and also one for the history books, and we’re thrilled to deliver this exciting moment in boxing and sports history to DAZN subscribers across the world.” As the first ever women to headline at Madison Square Garden, Taylor and Serrano will come face-to-face in the Big Apple on the first leg of a global press tour next Wednesday, February 2 – timed in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a day of observance in the U.S. acknowledging the accomplishments of female athletes and recognizing the importance of equal opportunities in sport for girls and women. Billie Jean King - tennis icon, equality champion, and Women’s Sports Foundation founder - is delighted that the fight will take center stage at the legendary arena. “The Taylor vs. Serrano fight at Madison Square Garden is historic and it is only fitting it is being held in the venue that has hosted so many important championships in sports,” said King. “These two women are breaking barriers and opening doors for others by being the main event and not the undercard, fighting for one of the biggest paydays in boxing and showing everyone that if you can see it, you can be it.” “Saturday, April 30 will be another historic night of boxing at Madison Square Garden,” said Joel Fisher, executive vice president, MSG Marquee Events. “The Garden has been home to some of the most iconic events in the history of boxing, and Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will usher in another legendary night, becoming the first women to headline a show at the ‘Mecca of Boxing’. We wish them both good luck and congratulate them on this groundbreaking achievement.”

Auction Industry | Artist Katherine Bradford | Auction Daily
Works of art from Contemporary Artist Come Under the Hammer with Barridoff Galleries.
When requested to portray her work in three words, American craftsman Katherine Bradford picked “shimmering inhabited scenes.” Taken at face esteem, this depiction is exact. Bradford, however thought to be an apparatus of both the New York and Maine craftsmanship scenes, isn’t firmly lined up with any contemporary or verifiable workmanship development. Her status as a close outcast craftsman has permitted her to investigate an artistic creation style dependent on feeling and memory than procedure. It presently fills in as a background for conversations of social issues and individual encounters.
Three works from Bradford will be offered in Barridoff Galleries’ up and coming Summer International Fine Art Auction on August fifteenth, 2020. Running both on the web and in a constrained live meeting at 3:00 PM EDT, this closeout will introduce three early Bradford artistic creations. Investigate her life and imaginative improvement before the deal begins.
Tumblr media
Not at all like numerous creatives, Bradford never connected with workmanship during youth. Her mom debilitated it, connecting imagination to a way of life of liquor addiction and chronic drug use. Bradford spent her initial grown-up years following a more ordinary life way, accordingly, settling down with a spouse and two youngsters. She arrived at a limit in her 30s, in any case, acknowledging during a vital lunch that she required both individual and expert change. “I would not like to be there for one more lunch. Along these lines, when the individuals descended the carport to our home, I leaped out a window and rushed to my studio,” she told Jennifer Samet of Hyperallergic in 2016.
Following this second, Bradford started seeking after craftsmanship all the more truly. Having never gone to craftsmanship school or gotten formal preparing, her style developed naturally. Bradford’s works started investigating predictable subjects, including swimmers, worlds, and superheroes. She normally utilizes delicate, dream-like hues and basic structures to investigate further thoughts regarding memory, experience, connections, and sexuality.
“Bradford’s figures are altogether conventionally human yet particular in their execution, as though they stumbled out of the brush and arrived in capricious manners… And covered up in her careless brushwork are shrewd and centered choices,” composed Michael Frank Blair after the craftsman’s display at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas.
Tumblr media
By the mid 2010s, Bradford had built up herself in the realm of contemporary craftsmanship. Seas, night skies, and approaching boats showed up in her work. Every one of the works of art introduced in the forthcoming sale addresses these set up subjects. Sail Boat, a 2011 oil on canvas piece, simply recommends the state of its nominal subject. Floating over a dull and unclear structure is the sail, put somewhat askew and hued in foggy shades of rose and violet. Once in a private Connecticut assortment, this work is offered with a presale gauge of USD 6,000 to $8,000.
Another accessible piece, named Giant Stacks, pictures the impressive red smokestacks of a boat ($2,500 — $3,500). The foundations of this and comparable works have been compared to shading field painting, with certain areas getting back to back to Rothko. The most seasoned Bradford painting in this sale is from 1995, an untitled turquoise and earthy colored piece that brings out the natural eye ($800 — $1,200).
Tumblr media
Market enthusiasm for Bradford’s works of art has as of late got. By 2017, they started selling over their high gauges as opposed to passing unsold. One early green and dark gouache on paper painting came to $4,063 with Rago, surpassing its high gauge of $700 about sixfold. During an ongoing Phillips sell off, held toward the beginning of March of 2020, her Couple on Purple acrylic painting sold for $12,500 after a gauge of $2,000 to $3,000.
This pattern runs corresponding to a checked change in the nature and topic of Bradford’s specialty. Her works have since quite a while ago filled in as “a mental placeholder, a compartment for a felt or state of mind.” Recent artworks currently overlay this with political critique, unpretentiously investigating sexual orientation jobs, race, and demise. One of these 2019 pieces accomplished HKD 200,000 (USD 25,800) after 14 offers at Sotheby’s Hong Kong this past May.
Bradford’s artistic creations are held in the perpetual assortments of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Portland Museum of Art, and others. She keeps on painting, display, and give her work to different craftsman alleviation assets and social causes.
Offering for the referenced three works of art will start at 3:00 PM EDT on August fifteenth, 2020.

Episode 107 - “The Missing Sky”
[intro]
Joseph Fink: I have a lot to tell you so I’m just gonna get through it real quick, one after another. Quick summary: live recording of Ghost Stories is now out. We are doing a Night Vale Presents birthday party with surprise guests. We are doing a panel and signing at Book Con this June, and there might be some special news from the Eiffel Tower at the end of this episode.
First, OK, we are releasing the live recording of our live show “Ghost Stories”. This is a full-length album of our most ambitious live show yet, one that tells a completely standalone story that is also a deep dive to the past of the character Cecil. It’s funny and sad and scary and takes you all the way back to the beginning of time, literally. This album is the entire show with live music by Disparition, live weather by Erin Mckeown, and performances by a number of guest stars. And as if that was not enough, it also has nine bonus tracks featuring every other guest star that ever performed with us. This is over, I’m not kidding, two hours of entirely new Night Vale material, available for pay what you want, a minimum of just five dollars at nightvale.bandcamp.com, or a set price of 6.99 on iTunes. That’s nightvale.bandcamp.com or just search Night Vale on iTunes. This is a completely different show than “All Hail”, which we are touring as I speak to you.
Second, our Night Vale Presents birthday party at the Bell House in Brooklyn on June 21. Now, this is not a Night Vale show, this is a birthday party for our entire network, and it’s going to feature a number of surprise guests that I can’t believe we get to put on our stage. Plus the announcement and very first live episode of a new podcast I’m making that we haven’t been able to tell you about yet. The people in that room in June will be the first to know. Plus, something we have been wanting to do for a while, “Night Vale After Dark”, in which writer friends of the show write erotic Night Vale monologues, and Night Vale actors perform them. It’s gonna be an evening, y’all. Donors of 20 dollars a month or more will have access to a presale on May 3, note this is a higher tier than our usual presales, and then public sale of tickets will be on May 5.
Third, Welcome to Night Vale is coming back to Book Con this year to celebrate he upcoming second Night Vale novel, “It Devours!”. On June 4, there will be a panel with Jeffrey, me, Cecil Baldwin and Dylan Marron, moderated by MC of our live shows and voice of Deb, Meg Bashwiner. Cecil will give an exclusive reading from the not-yet-released book, and we will discuss the podcast, the live shows and of course, just what is devouring and being devoured in “It Devours!”. Tickets on sale now at thebookcon.com/tickets.
OK, I know that was a lot, so check the text description of this episode for a summary, but I think you’ll agree it’s all cool stuff. Wait after the episode, because we have a very important broadcast coming to us from a ballroom at the top of the Eiffel Tower. And hey, We’re in this together.
[outro]
Meg Bashwiner: Welcome to Night Vale is a production of Night Vale Presents. It is written by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor and produced by Joseph Fink. The voice of Night Vale is Cecil Baldwin. The voice of Pamela Winchell was Desiree Burch.
Original music by Disparition. All of it can be found at Disparition.info or at Disparition.bandcamp.com.
This episode’s weather was “The Ends and the Means” by Robby Hecht. Find out more at robbyhecht.com.
Comments? Questions? Email us at [email protected], or follow us on Twitter @NightValeRadio. Or have a weird dream about trying to buy chicken sandwiches with us, except we’re not us, we’re AC/DC.
Check out welcometonightvale.com for more information on this show and our upcoming novel. Hey, we have an upcoming novel! And while you’re there, consider clicking the “donate” link. It really does help us out.
Today’s proverb: Top of the morning to you. The rest of the day to me. I never said this was fair.

it’s that time again
german wrestling time
or apparently BREAK MY FUCKING HEART TIME HERE’S THE PIANO
oh god axel’s dad
i’m tearing up
my heart
oh yeah like i care about bad bones and dante after that
i would say emil is right and michael dante really is the marty janetty of sumerian death squad, except michael dante isn’t a rapist
  too serious too early?
i actually don’t have anything against bad bones; he’s just a lot more interesting when interacting with others than in just a straight up ‘here he fight this boy’ match. and dante doesn’t really do much for me. there’s nothing wrong with him, but it’s like, who is he? he’s just kind of...a dude
maybe it’s cause dante hasn’t had much of a story; he really hasn’t been around a ton since i started watching, and the only thing close to a feud i remember is a mini tiff with emil cause emil was like ‘I AM THE BEST DUTCH WRESTLER IN THE UNIVERSE’ and dante was like ‘ummm shut the fuck up emil you’re not even the best dutch wrestler in this room’
whereas bones has had his beef with cerberus and the stuff with kevin (and i feel like i’m forgetting at least one other thing)
also keith lee has skyrocketed my expectations of hosses
i want wxw to cross over with evolve and i think bobby gunns needs to come; according to rico and jurn he speaks english pretty well
HAHAHA ‘your mama will take you to the doctor like she’s got munchousen’s syndrome’
oh wait you can’t smoke inside in the states though [certainly not in nyc]
ok i’ll talk about this match: i like absolute andy and cannot articulate why
sometimes i get mixed up and think of him as ‘awesome andy’
does scotty saxon look kinda like davey boy smith jr to anyone else? obviously a smaller version (who doesn’t bleach his hair)
that reminds me: i need to catch up on new japan cause i’m neglecting it getting deep into evolve and wxw (and also having a job so i can’t watch live)
andy is so amicable
the jungle lions seem goofy but i think i’ll like them
no really wxw what is a ‘relaxed rules match’
GERMAN TMZ WXW PLS
yeah so fyi i’m almost definitely gonna go back and watch old shotguns from when cerberus first formed
also i still have to watch the first cage match [i can’t remember how to spell the german word]
I FORGOT ABOUT THAT HUG
ilja pls b careful with your skull and the mushy thing inside of it
once again, julian, that is actually the worst way to prove objectivity
god next week is gonna be too full of emotion
also i’m pretty sure tim will surprise be there; he was taken off last sunday’s evolve show so he could go to progress to fight with axel and walter, and i’m assuming he’ll pop over by germany
him not having fb or twitter means that he doesn’t advertise his plans
i wonder what plans they have for francis
i wonder how long nxt will drag their feet before putting axel on tv
i’d probably shell out a ton for nxt tickets if i knew he would be there, but idk if he’s gonna be around by nxt brooklyn and there’s no hope of getting real good seats without buying in the presale before the card is set
i don’t really care about the london riots
lol i’m not really paying attention to the wrestling this week am i
‘oh, it’s kaspin, bitch’ jurnnnnnnn
i don’t know what’s funnier, francis’ look when jurn calls himself a ‘grizzled veteran’, or the cameraman’s fingers getting in the shot as he adjusts something
seems like they have a shitty tripod and it keeps moving
aww walter
you are way too nice to cmj and i can’t wait until you dump him and kick him in the face

Episode 105 - What Happened at the Smithwick House
[intro]
Joseph Fink: Even as I speak to you, we are in the midst of a four-show run in Brooklyn of our newest live show, “All Hail”. We are about to do this show all over the East Coast, South and Midwest this month, from Boston to Atlanta to Iowa City, and a whole bunch of places in between. Tickets on sale right now on our website.
But we aren’t done taking “All Hail” to all of you. We want the influence of the Glow Cloud to spread much farther than that, so we are taking it to even more US cities this July. We are going to Miami, Tampa, Birmingham, Germantown just outside of Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Austin, Denver, and Salt Lake City. We have been doing live shows for a few years now, and I feel like we’re finding new ways to make them better every time. If you’ve never seen us live, then you are missing out on a lot of what makes Night Vale Night Vale. And if you have seen us live, we bring an entirely new show every time we come through a city. And the show is completely self-contained and self-explanatory, so if you have a friend who doesn’t listen to podcasts, but likes comedy or horror or sitting in a dark room with hundreds of people, bring them along, they’ll have a blast too. Tickets on sale April 7 at noon local time and donor presale starts on April 5. Full schedule for all of that on welcometonightvale.com, just click on “shows”. Thank you to those who preordered “It Devours”, the second Welcome to Night Vale novel coming out this fall. Do yourself a favor if you haven’t seen it and go check out the incredible cover design by Rob Wilson, I love that thing!
And don’t forget, this week our sister podcast “Alice Isn’t Dead” continues its search through the empty places on our country’s highways. The first season takes only a few hours to listen through, so there’s plenty of time for you to join in with the creepy mystery of Alice.
And hey,
I love you.
[outro]

Today’s proverb: you are what you eat. That’s very confusing phrasing. Let me simplify: you consume your own flesh. Much clearer.
“Alice Isn’t Dead” bonus episode 3: “Haugen, Montana” under the cut
Hello. I don’t believe we’ve met. You’d know if you’d met me. You wouldn’t know for long, but it would be memorable.
So here we are on the border of Montana and Idaho. This is a place you’d imagine existing in Montana, and you’d be right. Is that because we’re right about Montana, or because Montana residents know what we’re thinking and are willing to capitalize on it?
History of this world is folks capitalizing on the hardship that’s been handed to them because they have to survive somehow, and then being scolded or demonized by doing so.
See, we didn’t start this. You’ve been doing this to yourself for a long time.
I followed Keisha here. She doesn’t know that, of course.
The claim to fame of this place is that they have 50,000 silver dollars stuck to their walls. Except they say it’s actually more than that now. Even their claim to fame is confused and incorrect. [chuckling] I love it! I love confusion. Confusion is where I live, it’s where I work.
The largest gift shop in Montana. You can buy a knife for five dollars. I bought ten. Never enough knives, not if you know how to use them. They’re cheap, sure, but even cheap can cut.
Dream catchers with a wolf printed on them, pink cowboy hats with silver bangles, toy horse heads on sticks so you can pretend to ride a horse or pretend to carry a decapitated horse head on a stick. Inspirational and funny signs to buy, saying things like “A closed mouth gathers no flint” and “We may not have it all together, but together we have it all”. Cute. This one says, “What happens at Grandma’s never happened.” Um, interesting. What exactly happened at Grandma’s? I think legally you may have to tell someone.
Animatronic statues, angels that flap their wings, wolves with mouths that open and shut – horrifying. Wonderful. It’ll give children nightmares. Less work for me.
When people say anything is possible they usually mean that positively, but that’s only because they’re not thinking those words through. Think about if anything is possible, how many truly horrible things are possible? Like my girl said, “freedom is not good or bad. There can be terrible freedom.”
I’m not hiding. Keisha walked right past me. Didn’t know who I was, and why would she? If Alice was here, maybe Alice could warn here.
But of course, Alice isn’t here. I am.
Joseph Fink: Alice isn’t Dead part 2. Every other Tuesday starting April 4.
