Snake n Otacon for my post-Mgs4 au❤

This is around ~6 years after mgs4. Snake was able to manage his Werner's symptoms and live a lot longer than expected. He's an ambulatory wheelchair user n also uses a cane sometimes ❤ He has glasses for cataracts. Hes still a grumpy old man but he's mellowed out a lot, and he's extremely grateful to have so much time with Otacon and Sunny

He paid close attention to the bulletin boards, and had since he'd arrived here - in any setting, they provided a good source of information, and even if some of it was not necessarily factual, it was useful all the same - and so it had been an easy spot.

The boy wasn't forthcoming with his personal information, but Raven had gotten a sense for them over the prior months, and although he could not in good conscious pretend that he and anyone here were friends, couldn't be, couldn't risk it, it was difficult to ignore that the boy had wormed their way into a soft spot in spite of himself.

He didn't approach the boy outright - knew that they were prone to embarrassment, easily flustered by displays of any kind, and couldn't say that he blamed them. It was just as well, for these kinds of displays were not his forte, either. It wasn't a big deal, and didn't need to be treated as such.

And so when Chad returned to their dormitory from classes that day, in a neat (but plain) wrapped parcel on his desk, they might find a cloak of fine burgundy wool, edges embroidered but not embellished in similar triangular patterns of the plainspeople of Sacae. If they unfold it, a note might fall to the floor, and if they open it they might read:

'Keep your head down and your back dry.'

Chad's back in their room after a relatively uneventful day; There's no loud singing of happy birthday around a dinner table on another's insistence, noone needling him on purpose to go as red as his favored cloak. The few gifts they did receive weigh their pockets down as much as they do their conscience, but offer this weird comfort all the same... Carefully, they lay them out on their desk, mentally making notes of everyone they're all too grateful for, estimating how much they'll have to do in return.

Or, at least, he means to, but there's something on his desk that wasn't there this morning, or when he dipped in to grab a red pencil that escaped his pencil case during lunch. It's a nondescript thing, and alone in his room, Chad tears the paper open without hesitation or fanfare, too curious to do otherwise. He catches the note that slips free, sets it aside for a moment, hands too full to read it for now — But when familiar patterns catch his eye and burgundy meets his hands, so fine it doesn't even catch on his fingertips, he drops the cloak on his lap to scramble for the note again.

The handwriting — He recognises it, but even the fact he can count his friends here on his fingers, much less people who would leave gifts like this and know Sacae, is enough to narrow the selection down to Raymond. Horror and warmth and gratitude war, all at once; But gratitude unquestionably burns brightest as they bring their knees up to their chest, tracing triangles reverently. The collar's just as high as the current one, too, they note as they try it on later.

Yeah... He gets it. This guy gets it. Saints, they'd consider him a friend if they'd just stop being awkward about it.

Needless to say, they're wearing it the next day, and the day after that, and Saints know how many days after.

Honestly? It started out as a joke I had with some friends, and it very quickly spiraled when I started to meme and write headcanons and (forever unfinished) WIPs.

I fell in love with the dynamic we created for them and soon enough they just became the rarepair I latched onto. I have no true reason I ship it other than it was one of those "it was a joke and now that I'm doing this, I don't think it's a joke anymore" rarepairs

I just think that 'animals are living intelligent creatures that have feelings and deserve to be respected' and 'when done properly farming is beneficial to both people and animals and there's nothing wrong with raising and killing animals for food, clothing, and other products' are concepts that very much can and should coexist

#i think a lot of people get too carried away in farming discourse to actually remember both of these things #some people are so aggressively anti-farming that they forget that meat and fur are necessary for some people #and that farming helps prevent overhunting of certain species #but some people are so aggressively pro-farming that they begin to think of animals as objects #that only exist to provide them with a product #animals deserve to be treated with respect and be given the best care possible while they're alive #but that doesn't mean that its a bad thing for them to die

Brown University students are launching an indefinite hunger strike for Palestine

they are asking for their university to divest from companies profiting from the genocide in gaza and openly call for a ceasefire and will not eat until the university governing bodies hears and considers a divestment resolution. if you are not familiar with the physical toll a hunger strike takes on the body, it might be worth looking up to get a better sense of what a significant action these students are taking. the university's highest governing body is having their first meeting of 2024 on february 8-9th so let's rally around them to muster even more pressure on brown university.

I think there's no greater indication that disco elysium is sympathetic towards communism when it literally says "communism is failure" and then the literal gameplay itself rewards trying and failing. The most obvious one being the Shivers check at the FELD mural, which is an Impossible 20 check BUT opens itself up again and again the longer you spend in the world doing things, but even just looking at sheer probabilities, for any given white check, rolling first and THEN putting a point into that skill upon failure is more likely to grant you success than putting a point first and then rolling, but that would require failing first.

Other things too: Precarious world saying you'll 100% fail red checks no matter what (not necessarily a bad thing, btw!! throwing the boule into the sea is a success but like. in some other ways one would want a perfect petanque throw instead. but people wouldn't typically assume that failure is desirable sometimes from the start) persuading you to accept that you'll fail some things that is irrevocable, for a world where everything is just a tiny bit easier.

The faux game over screen when you faint after reading Dora's letter— emulating a sense of failure on the scale of the entire game. When it rolls up most people go "What?? Game over?? No way, what did I do wrong!!" and waking up after that, with no huge or lasting impact on Harry's health or morale really tells the player, "Sometimes things will seem so bad that it all seems like it's coming to an end, but it's not the end, it's really not the end, go drink so water, you can still go on despite this failure"

I'm sure there are other things as well that are eluding me but like. The literal gameplay rewards failing and succeeding far more so than simply succeeding every single time, and I think you get a fuller experience of Elysium that way too

The defintion of hell is knowing a show is incredibly well-received in its first season, but if people don’t become machines churning out tweets, content, and rewatching 24/7, there’s no likelihood it’ll get a chance to tell its whole story. This shit is madness. Shows in different genres shouldn’t have to pit-battle for dominance. First seasons are MEANT to be baselines establishing worlds and characters, not complete storylines. The idea that this golden age of television has turned into “get it done in one or get out” is revolting.
