Finally, the crossover I’ve been waiting for all my life!! My two main hyperfixations unite!! Well, not exactly, but close enough!

Today Detective Conan volume 103 was published and, as every other Conan volume, it had a “featured detective” personally recommended by the author.

Professor Layton in the Conan style! I never though I’d see this ever!!

It’s fun that he uses the New World of Steam design, given that he announced he had this drawing done before the Vision, so this means he got it from the Nintendo Direct. It’s 2023 and Gosho Aoyama got the design of Professor Layton from the anouncement of a new game, pinch me rn, I’m dreaming. I swear I’m dreaming.

Anyways, I have translated Aoyama’s full recommendation down below! Enjoy! :D

When speaking of hard cases*, strange mysteries are bound to follow. Let me introduce you to Professor Layton, the reliable** puzzle-solving genius! Hershel Layton is a true English gentleman with a penchant for tea and a trademark silk hat. He is a renowned archaeologist, but also an "expert on mystery investigation", having solved several cases with his assistant, a boy named Luke. No matter the situation, he is always calm and collected. With his keen eye for observation, his erudition and his flashes of inspiration, there is no mystery*** he cannot solve. Even in the face of danger, he manages to pull himself out of it with the fencing skills he learnt when he was a student! Incidentally, the game series in which he is the main character has such a large volume of puzzles that the actor who voices him, Yo Oizumi, said that he couldn't progress in the story because the puzzle-solving got in the way. I really want my Conan to try out this game, too (lol). (I recommend “Professor Layton and the Curious Village”).

*Here Aoyama uses an structure that sounds a bit like the one the Professor uses when saying “Speaking of ???, that reminds me of a puzzle”.

** Reliable is precisely the adjective Claire uses in a scene at the end of UF, you know the one AND I’M HAVING FEELINGS. Yes Luke uses it too when posing as Clark and I’m sure may other characters as well but. I have feelings.

***mystery and puzzle sound the same in japanese so this is also “there’s no puzzle he can’t solve”.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE CONAN PLAYING LAYTON. In fact, I would probably die. I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH!!

this may come as a big surprise to some of you but my current hyperfixation rn is sonic the hedgehog. i am very normal about it and i'm VERY normal about silver the hedgehog and espio the chameleon(/s) but i draw literally every character. with just a little bit of favouritism

i'm very into gaming though so i am into like,,a lot of fandoms. quickfire round: undertale/deltarune, super mario, professor layton, portal, disco elysium(<3), katamari damacy(<3 !!!!!). also ena and gorillaz. mention any of these to me and i might go feral /pos. will maybe perhaps occassionally draw fanart of them.

if i wasnt an mcr/general interests blog this shit would absolutely be decked out in nothing but grand theft thotto v rn

it took me YEARS AND YEARS to get to play it bc i never had a good enough computer and then for a while i was still a bit bad at video games and would get frustrated how fast i died like thirty seconds into the first shootout like i would get stuck on the prologue hardcore and i gave up every time eventually bc it ran too slow for me to want to actually put more than an hour or two of effort

NOW i have a good computer AND im fucking sick at shooting now so ive been in hardcore hyperfixation mode playing gta every day i use my computer lmao for like a month now and im headfirst ass deep in fanfic for it like i sorted michael/trevor by completed works and in order of kudos and im on page 9 of the results i must have read 500k+ words already

OTHER video games i currently play are fortnite (i will die on this hill this game is fun free and i can talk to my friends. im very good at it and win often of course im gonna play it. fuck everyone who says its cringe) webkinz overwatch a little huniepop 2 a little and road 96.

road 96 i just discovered and i could go on and on about how great it is. you play a hitchhiker trying to cross a border and your gameplay is just choosing a location to start then hitchhiking to the same destination over and over with different events and characters throughout your journey. its ai generated so every single game is different theres like 114k possible journeys to take and you just roll the dice each time and i love it. its beautiful. its also political climate based, you make decisions that are politically aligned throughout bc the game is about border crossing

i also play on the switch, rn im playing cult of the lamb and i own a few other things like breath of the wild and animal crossing but rn its just cult of the lamb and cook serve delicious 2 (which i HIGHLY recommend) rn

games i dont play regularly anymore but have/still love include the professor layton series, undertale when i was a bit dweebier lol, life is strange, resident evil 7 gameplay from achievement hunter lol, until dawn gameplay from achievement hunter lol x2, danganronpa series, a fascination with the technical trainwreck of fnaf security breach, the jackbox series, cultist simulator, audiosurf 2, hotline miAMI (i have spent so much time in my life getting stoned then just sitting there in the apartment looking at the colors and listening to deep cover by sun araw its one of my favorite songs), cooking simulator, and that's all i can think of

video games have always been a huge part of my life since i was 7 playing webkinz or on the landline playing wizard101 in a rudimentary 2000s version of discord with my friends, ive always loved them and ive probably spent about a fifth or so of my life playing them and dont regret it; obviously id do stuff irl over online, but i still cherish the time i get in video games and online with others

omg ive been hyperfixating on professor layton the past few weeks :) i love the caharacters so much anf the story is so crazy sometimes its so fun and the puzzles are so interesting. when i was a kid i haf to cheat a lot on the puzzles and replaying them recently has made me realize how much ive grown and learned :)

professor layton is so good isnt it!!! layton and luke + their sidekicks always have the best adventures :’) oh my god, i did the exact same thing when i was a kid aghh;; i would suck so much at solving the puzzles (but listening to the puzzle music was nice LOL) and i’d always have to look them up or ask my brother to help solve it for me. it makes me so proud when i can solve the puzzles myself now in the newer games, it makes me feel like my brain grew a little bigger from when i was a kid LMAO :’) which game are you on rn?? :o im currently playing azran’s legend but i feel like i enjoyed the past games more :( ive only just begun though so maybe that’ll change! :o
