Birthdays In Camelot
Sooooooooo three of my very good and very dear friends had their birthday and I wanted to do something for them. I know this isn’t much, but 1. I am dead inside and school continues to kill me, and 2. …yeah. I’m dead inside. I just wanted to dedicate a little something to you three amazing beautiful perfect angels because you guys are some of the best people ever and you’re always so kind and nice to me. I wanted to return the favor somehow someway. I probablyyyy should’ve made three separate ones for each of you, but I have multiple papers to finish up for next week. I’ll try and do better next time, but for now this is all I have.
So!!! in the spirit of @gayfirebender @thatone-nerdygirl and @junemo10 , this is for you.
Birthdays:
Birthdays are a big thing for Merlin. When he was in Ealdor, he and his mother didn’t really have enough money to celebrate in a big way.
It was usually a slightly better porridge or a new tunic if they were REALLY lucky.
So when Merlin started earning his wages, he immediately looked for the best present he could ever get his mother and then he one upped it the next year
It started out with a delicious meal stolen from the royal cook herself and worked it’s way up to a dress that looked simple enough for a peasant but felt like it was made for a queen
Having ties to Arthur sure helped that out
SO! because of Merlin’s love for birthdays, you know he goes all out for all his friends
It makes Percival so. soft. whenever Merlin skips to him on his birthday and gives him a present
His favorite, by far, is when Merlin gave him an amazing little tree that he takes care off very well. (It’s a magical bonzai.)
Elyan is excited for his birthday cause Merlin gave him the best gifts. His favorite is definitely the new armor design that Merlin drew up based on different knights from different kingdoms. Elyan made it and uses it for himself and himself only.
Leon was very surprised to get a gift from Merlin. It was long long ago when Arthur was still prince and they barely spoke at all.
He was surprised to catch him in his room- setting down a basket full of large bottles.
Merlin was a blushing embarrassed mess at being caught. He and Leon had never had a proper conversation since before that.
He stuttered his way to explain that he knew Leon was constantly aching from past battle wounds, so he made large batches of Gaius’ special salves and potions for Leon to use. That is objectively the best gift Merlin ever got for him because of the memory that came with it.
However, Merlin setting him up on a date with George will soon be the best one yet.
Gwen is a pouty baby because “Merlin! You didn’t have to get me anything! I’m already happy with our friendship.”
She accepts the gifts anyway. Her favorite is definitely the specially made and designed family seal that is dedicated to her father. She cried so much and keeps it with her all the time
Gwaine. Ohhhhh Gwaine. His gifts started out fun, you know? A pint of mead, Finally being able to take Merlin out for a pint, A fully paid night of drinking. Those sort of stuff
But then Merlin goes and starts writing him all these long ass letters. All these letters that talk about how much Merlin appreciates him and how great of a person he is
And Gwaine never fails to ugly cry on those letters. He keeps them all in a special box- it remains his most prized possession.
Lancelot counted himself lucky. With Magic now an available option, Merlin gave Lancelot the best of the best presents from day one of their friendship.
His absolute favorite present, however, is the magichand made knight’s armor, outfit, and sword that Merlin made for him after becoming a knight. It was enchanted too because obviously
Gaius, like Lancelot, got some of the best gifts ever with the help of magic.
Merlin gave him tons of very exotic and new herbs and plants to work with. He’d summon them from a land far away just for Gaius and then plant them somewhere, so he’d have more.
But the best one by far is the new equipment Merlin got for him. Each and everyone had words painted or etched onto it: “Best Father Figure” “Best Physcian” “Best Mentor”. It was nice little reminders that touched Gaius’ heart constantly
Before Morgana left, Merlin’s gift to her were not at all the exquisite gifts that she normally got. No, it was much much better.
Merlin always gave her a peasant’s dress and snuck her out to explore the lower town with him. They’d buy little random trinkets and food and then go out to play and eat in a forest clearing far away from the tyranny and the hate and the duties of royalty.
She didn’t realize until later on that those were the best presents because Merlin always took her to a place where magic was most alive and beautiful and calming and thriving.
Arthur’s birthday was always a tricky one for Merlin. This was his other half and the man he was kinda a little bit very in love with- it had to be perfect.
But in the end, it didn’t really take much thinking at all. This was his other half and the man he was very much in love after all.
Arthur would never be able to decide what his favorite gift from Merlin was. Anything that man gave him, he absolutely loved with all his heart
He didn’t know if it was the refurbished painting of his mother or the tiny farm that was set up for the both of them when they needed a break or maybe all the necklaces and letters and bracelets and tunics Merlin crafted especially for him.
He does know which one he takes especially good care of- even more so than his farm and painting. The most precious gift Merlin has ever given him: His magical heart.
And so obviously, Merlin had to have the best birthday of them all. While everyone got him nice gifts too, they had to give him the best one after a very stressful and bumpy magic and love revealing year.
Normally, it would’ve been a feast. Arthur knew that was definitely not the case. This was Merlin- he wanted it small and intimate.
They set up the nice round table dinner with just their group of friends.
Merlin was already crying when they brought them there.
After eating, they’d all give their gifts to him one by one. Just seeing his friends line up made Merlin cry with appreciation again. Arthur made him sit on the throne for this one.
Percival grinned wide as he gave Merlin pots of the most beautiful flowers and herbs that would typically be needed in potion making.
Elyan was practically bouncing off the walls as he presented a staff he made alongside the druids.
Gwen had to shove Elyan out of the way to present the very special hand made outfits she made for him- fit for royalty.
Leon smiled and chuckled as he gave him the exact same potions and salves Merlin gave to him that first time because now he knew that Merlin needed it too.
Gwaine smirked and stuck his tongue out as he went out and brought back Hunith with him. While they were greeting each other, he slipped his very long and more tear-inducing letter with the rest of Merlin’s gift.
Gaius smiled as he gave Merlin a key. A key to his new magical workshop that Gaius and his very bad back worked on. Later on, Merlin would cry in there as he read all the labels Gaius put everywhere: “Best Son” “Best Warlock” “Best Student” “My Best Merlin.”
Arthur was nervous ash he walked up to Merlin. He tried to speak three times before sighing in defeat. He handed him a scroll that officially declared the magic ban lifted.
Merlin was sobbing at that point. He didn’t know how it could get any better really.
Except that Morgana burst in with a gust of wind in a true dramatic fashion.
Everyone was on defense immediately as they turned to face her.
They all let out different gasps and choked sobs when they were not faced with a wild haired all black outfit Morgana, but with a Morgana in a peasant dress, a basket in hand full of knickknacks and food, and tears in her eyes.
Later on in the night when Merlin slipped into Arthur’s arms, he got his final greatest present.
Ygraine’s ring and four words.
“Will you marry me?”

From your tags I couldn't guess if Merthur is on the table but if it is "Back For The Weekend" is the title I want to ask (if not just pick another Merlin ship asdfghjkl)
Merthur is always on the table, my friend.
Back For The Weekend
Merlin Emrys is a skilled photoreporter who is slowly making a name for himself in the field with his moving pictures and articles so well written they often make people cry. Between one assignment and another, instead of coming back to his tiny flat in London, a places that he rents only because of how close to the airport it is, he decides to finally go back to Ealdor, the small village where he’s from, to visit his lovely mum. He only has one weekend, but he has planned to make it count.
He arrives in Ealdor on Friday night, while his mum is at her friend’s to play cards, drink sherry and (mostly, really) gossip. It’s fine, she will be back soon enough, and she has left the keys for him under the empty vase on the window. As Merlin looks for the key in the dark (he really should have taken out his phone to have at least some light, dammit), someone shoves him, and he falls on his ass.
Stunned, Merlin tries to understand who his attacker is, and in the night he thinks he recognizes him as Arthur Pendragon. And it is really Pendragon, who apparently is his mum’s neighbour now, and had thought that Merlin was a burglar.
Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, Arthur invites Merlin for a cup of tea at his place, as an apology.
Merlin puts his stuff in his room first, all while wondering what the hell had just happened. Growing up, of course, he had know who Arthur Pendragon was. Anyone knew the son of the richest landowner in the area, the golden boy who was great in sports but also had good grades and good looks. The wonder was not only Arthur had known who Merlin was, but that he knew who he was to the point of recognizing him, while maybe they had talked twice in their high school years.
Merlin goes over to Arthur’s for the cup of tea, and things are weirdly... not weird. Merlin never has trouble finding conversation topics, considering how many places he had visited and all the people he had met, he always had exciting and interesting stories to tell; and Arthur Pendragon seemed genuinely interested in what Merlin had to say on a variety of topics, from politics, to environmental issues, football, how much sugar there should be in a cup of tea... anything, really.
Merlin stays over until he sees his mum come back from her friend’s house, and it’s so good to see her and hug her after all that time that he cries a little bit. But only a bit becuse he’s an accomplished adult man.
Merlin has plans for his weekend, and they are all mainly around one goal: being lazy as hell. Saturday is spent sunbathing (or better, sleeping in the garden while the weather does whatever it wants because it’s still, Wales after all). Much to Merlin’s surprise, Arthur’s plan is to work in his vegetable garden, which is close to the fence that delimit the two properties. One way or another, Merlin and Arthur basically spend all the afternoon talking, one about his travels and the other about how boring it is to work, as his father had wanted, in the biggest bank of the area.
Before Merlin even realizes it, it’s almost dinner time, and his mum comes into the garden to remind him about the meal. Hunith, seeing Arthur around, invites him as well, and Merlin discovers that apparently Arthur Pendragon has had dinner with his mum several times in the two years they have lived right next to each other. Which was something that scared Merlin, because who knows what the hell his mum has told to the guy who used to be Merlin’s biggest crush in high school.
Because, let’s all face it, Arthur Pendragon had been the gay awakening of both the two not straight guys in town, meaning Merlin and his best friend Will, who at the moment is working in London.
Dinner at the Emrys’ dining table is surprisingly pleasant, even if Merlin’s mum and Arthur keep making jokes of which Merlin is the butt of.
Sunday is Merlin’s last day in Ealdor, and he spends it on the sofa with his mum, looking at his old articles (his mum has everything he has ever written, and shows it proudly to anyone dumb enough to enter their living-room) so that Merlin can tell her stories that he has forgotten to tell her before and that didn’t make it into his writings. Or that weren’t exactly appropriate for a PG audience, because his mum is interested in his love life which, for Merlin, means mostly hookups whenever there is the chance, and little more.
Merlin is sad to note that his mum is set on also talking about Arthur quite a lot, if he says so himself, hinting that the heir of the Pendragon fortune would be an amazingly good match for her son. Not that Merlin hadn’t thought about it in the past few days, but is seeing someone for two days after what, ten years, enough to understand if there could be something romantic between them? Merlin doubted it.
Merlin had thought about going to sleep early, since he had to leave for London first and then Pakistan pretty early, and he was about to say so to his mum and go to sleep when the doorbell rings.
Arthur is at the door, completely drenched, as if he has been under the pouring rain for a while, with flowers in his hands.
Merlin really hadn’t seen that coming. He welcomes his mum’s neighbour in, and then runs to get the stupid guy a towel or two to dry himself, while Arthur makes himself home in the living-room. When Merlin enters the room, Arthur is, suspiciously, the only person there, and the flowers are in a vase he is pretty sure he sent to his mum from Greece.
This is when Merlin finds out that Arthur has been debating with himself all day about what to do, to the point that he had even some trouble ringing the bell, as Merlin could clearly see from his clothes.
Arthur had spent the day thinking that the next morning Merlin would be gone, unreachable. And Arthur couldn’t really stand the thought. Because he had enjoyed spending time with Merlin, and all those (very few) hours together had made him crave for more. He wanted to know everything about Merlin, if Merlin let him.
What he was trying to say was that Arthur wanted to keep in touch, but he also wanted to make it clear from the start that his interest was as far away from platonic as possible. Sure, they had to get to know each other a lot more before anything important could really happen, but it could be a start, or so he thought.
And really, Merlin couldn’t agree more. After having exchanged numbers and made sure that both of them were on the same page, Arthur excuses himself to let Merlin sleep.
Merlin escorts him to the door. In uncharacteristc boldness, Merlin greets Arthur with a kiss that tastes like a promise.

Merlin 1x01 “The Dragon’s Call” Review
So I made two posts like this while rewatching Merlin last time, of my thoughts on the finale, that I never posted. I decided since this is my third full watch through of Merlin this might be something fun I can do. It’ll basically just be me rambling on and reviewing the plot, my favourite scenes/episodes, Merthur moments and just making comments. They’ll probably all end up being kinda long posts. So without further ado, and just to be safe, spoiler alert:
“A boy that will in time father a legend” you don’t say (●__●) (also I love how this ties into what Kilgharrah says to Merlin in the last episode)
I remember the first time I watched this how epic I thought the “His name.. Merlin” thing was. Still epic.
ahh the intro, it’s like coming home
Uther: Off with his head!
“There is only one evil in this land and it is not magic, it is you” mood
Awww tiny Merlin is so cute
Hooray Gaius!
Hooray first magic use on the show!
Gaius really gets his shit together when Merlin arrives cause I’m pretty sure he’s a little senile in his first scene
I really wish Hunith had been in the series more
Awww not evil Morgana! I love Morgana sassing Uther all the time
“You know the more brutal you are, the more enemies you’ll create” again mood
And here we go part one of the “everyone breaks into Camelot” saga
OMG YAY ARTHUR except god he’s an asshole, Merlin really straightens him out
Aww the Merthur meet-not-so-cute
“Who do you think you are, the king” “No I’m his son, Arthur” you can literally see Merlin thinking well shit
Uther why do you meet your singer in a dark unlit room, that’s creepy
Also Kilgharrah if you were a little less cryptic whisper voice while Merlin sleeps he’d probably come down way sooner
YAYY ITS GWEN I really like her in the early seasons
Also my Netflix subtitles spelled Guinevere as “Gwenhwyfer” for some reason  and I just about died XD
Gwen and Merlin’s friendship was so cute in the early seasons I really wish they had more scenes together later on
“You don’t look like one of those big muscly kind of fellows.” Oh just wait till season five Gwen
*about Kilgharrah* “Where no one can free it” okay yeah sure give Merlin a bit
Ah yes part one of the “Merlin almost getting caught snooping” saga
And cue the gayest scene on television
“Look I told you you were an ass I just didn’t realize you were a royal one” literally the best burn ever
“I could take you apart with one blow” “I could take you apart with less than that” out of context people in town probably thought something completely different was going on
“I warn you I’ve been trained to kill since birth.” “Wow, and how long have you been training to be a prat?” “You can’t address me like that.” really cause you seem to be enjoying it Arthur “Sorry. How long have you been training to be a prat, my lord” no that’s the best burn ever go Merlin
Arthur also actually remembered Merlin’s name from him introducing himself the day before
And let the cheating begin
Arthur’s little sweeping thing was so adorably cocky, I totally forgot about it! I love him
“There’s something about you Merlin. I can’t quite put my finger on it.”
“If I can’t use magic I might as well die.” Aww Merlin
“I’m not a monster am I?” Awww Merlin “Don’t ever think that.” I love Merlin and Gaius father-son dynamic
Uther is definitely flirting with this witch/singer lady and I hate it
More cryptic whispers
Cue the “it’s very easy to get into the Camelot dungeons/basement” saga
You’d think a castle, especially under Uther’s reign, would guard the dragon better but hey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why is Kilgharrah so cryptic all the time? Like dude if you’d just tell Merlin the important stuff straight, things would get done so much faster!
“If anyone wants to go and kill him they can go ahead. In fact, I’ll give them a hand” oh Merlin you have no idea how you’ll grow to care for him
“There must be another Arthur cause this ones an idiot” yep “Perhaps it is your destiny to change that” perhaps not cause they’re both idiots but Arthur does become a much better person at least
Is it just me or were they almost hinting at an Arthur/Morgana romance at first?? Gross
More classic witchy stuff
The music in the background is really cool
So are Arthur and Morgana supposed to be betrothed?? Cause Gwen made a comment about Morgana being queen and “who would want to marry Arthur?” Merlin Which is gross to consider cause doesn’t Uther know they’re both his children..?
The putting everyone to sleep by singing scene is pretty cool too
That being said why does this spell cover everyone in spider webs?
Cue the “Merlin saves Arthur’s life like once an episode” saga
“You shall be prince Arthur’s manservant.” “Father!” Arthur’s so cute
God Merlin is pretty
Gaius: here let me give you an illegal magic book cause your mother asked me to make sure you don’t get caught using magic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“Your destiny is calling, you’d better find out what he wants” I feel like Gaius probably referred to Arthur like that constantly just to tease Merlin
And that's the first episode. Like I said I doubt people will actually read these, they’re more just a fun project for me to do. I’ll probably do most, I’m attempting to do all, of the series. I mostly just make notes while I’m watching to get down my thoughts and then edit later on on my computer or iPad. I'm gonna tag all of these "#hntrswrlk-reviews" so I can find the easily on my blog since I use tumblr all the time and reblog stuff all the time. I aim to do one a week but I’m a major procrastinator and forgetful AF so who knows XD. Anyway for anyone who did read, thanks (•ᴗ•)♡
(there will probably be a lot of these emoticons since I don't wanna use emojis since they don't come up properly on computers and I have a lot of emotions that textposts just don’t express well enough!)

My dearest readers,
Bonsoir, guten tag, and ni hao! It has been a long time, hasn’t it? I’m afraid so much has happened lately that playing catch-up is but a futile task for me. What’s done is done, as they say. Live in the now! Besides, I am sure you are all ever so eager to hear my commentary on the latest goings-on of our favorite pocket dimension. You missed me, didn’t you?
Our first order of business must be the new arrivals. So many of you are brand new! By now you’ve surely already had the welcome wagon roll on through, and good for it, because you aren’t getting a specific call out from me. There are too many of you to list since my latest writings, and I’m afraid you’ll simply have to make do. You all know who you are.
Let us catch up on the happenings of the past week, however! There are some very tiny residents of Worlds’ End that now call this place their home, and our youngest residents will get their own personal welcome: Salina Tigan and Zaniyah Landon. Our two newest single mothers are hopefully adjusting to parenthood, though who knows what sort of trouble their children will bring? For Ezri and Maelle, I can only wish you an easy time with your bundles of joy.
Speaking of those bouncing, babbling little things you all seem to fawn over relentlessly, you are all no doubt thrilled to hear about another child that will be joining us in just a few short weeks: that of Suki and… Sokka? Perhaps? It would be nice if the Kyoshi Warrior could get her story straight without needing her own episode of Maury. Of course, Fire Lord Zuko is insistent he could never be the child’s father, despite nearly everyone suggesting the contrary. Hopefully their disaster of a relationship can sort itself out before the child is born, though if it helps I have some naming suggestions for our mother-to-be. I, for one, think George is a lovely name…
Sokka could always ask his mother for help, now that Kya is alive and well in the world. Everyone’s second favorite dead mom (looking at you, Lily Evans) seems a bit confused about her son’s relationship, but hey. No one ever said she was bright. Sokka shared the news of his mother’s arrival with Katara, who was overwhelmed by the news and promptly started crying. We can’t expect anything less from Katara, not really. The Fire Nation killed her mother, did you know that?
Of course, Team Avatar are not the only ones facing confusion. Some of you may have noticed that your friends and family cannot agree on the events in your lives. Take, for example, Hunith and her son, Merlin. Or… perhaps, sons? Arthur believes Hunith to be his adoptive mother; confused, she went to Merlin only to find he believed the exact same thing. And where exactly does the daughter Hunith remembers fit in here? It seems Merlin doesn't remember having a little sister at all... The confusion has yet to remedy itself, and for now this unconventional family unit will simply have to reconcile their conflicting memories. Many people have experienced such similar phenomena, but at least it can only get less confusing from here on out… right?
I have one last bit of news to share with you all, and it is for all you romantics at heart. Hogwarts’ former resident playboy, Sirius Black, has seemingly fallen for a girl for good this time. Arria is the Druid who has captured the heart of the wizard Don Juan, and it seems like he may be head over heels for good. A word of warning to Arria, however: I’ve heard Sirius is a real dog, if you know what I mean. For the sake of our poor druid’s heart, though, let’s assume the best of Mr. Black and believe he truly has fallen for her. Ah, to be young and in love again.
Now, dear readers, that I am back from my hiatus, I expect some truly juicy drama to recap for next week. And so, as I bid you adieu for the week, I leave you with some parting words: get out there and cause some drama!
Until next time,
The Editor.
