something about "your anger isn't scary to me" is making me so emotional. something about as above so below, cassandra as a mirror of kristen. something about "I've been dropping the ball a lot lately" and kristen's struggles with adhd. something about teenage girls and rage and fury and justice. something about adaine's vision of ruining fallinel and the sylvaire looking for revenge. something about sadness and doubt and anger and love. something about "I choose to understand" being the absolute core theme of d20 in general. something something.

Okay but also Trent threatening Essek is so fucking funny in hindsight considering Trent's been in prison for seven years. Does he even actually know that Caleb is with Essek or is he making an informed guess based on Caleb having a type and the few protective interactions that he witnessed? Does he not realize Essek's been out of the Dynasty for ages? Does the Dynasty still not have hard evidence against Essek? Does Trent really believe that they'd listen to the word of an escaped convict from an enemy nation who was imprisoned ostensibly for turning teenagers into assassins that were probably used to target the Bright Queen herself?

okay i'll say it: percy being "different" because sally taught him the myths before he knew he was a demigod is an unnecessary change. percy was never "different" because he knew the myths and thus came into the mythology world knowing how fucked up everything is. he's different because he has a strong sense of loyalty (fatal flaw). he's different because his mum loved him and he learned love and compassion and kindness from her. he's different because when the time comes, he will choose to be the demigod of the prophecy. he's different because despite the life he's had he's a good kid. he's different because he will not give respect that hasn't been earned, even if it gets him into trouble. he's not different for knowing the gods are a fucked up family and that sometimes a monster is not a monster. he's not different for not wanting kleos. in fact i think it's much more impactful if he gets to that conclusion himself, if he sees it and he comes out kinder and choosing not to continue the cycle on the other side.
also they should have let annabeth say the exposition. not just because she's the "smart one" even though she is, but because she was raised in the world of the gods since she was seven and she would absolutely have biases percy could challenge with his own choices.
you know.
like in the book richard wrote already.

Since so many with liberal tendencies are so concerned with optics, I want to remind you that optics and arguing for/against it is a waste of time. It is more important to concern yourself with the application of theory and organizational logistics. "But what if you make people uncomfortable?" That is the point of agitating, a crucial part of organization! You HAVE to make them uncomfortable with their current state of affairs! This is how you rile people to action. Second, if you reduce marxism, making it more palatable to liberals, you don't end up with two marxists, you end up with two liberals. Take your target to your level, not the other way around. This, too, is a crucial part of agitation. Finally, you must be able to separate the person from their ideas. My workplace was deeply transphobic. Does this mean I should've given up, thrown in the towel and said "they're transphobic therefore they're not worth my time"? No! As an organizer, you have to deal with the fact that there is NO perfect workplace or in fact person to organize! We are all material beings shaped by our deeply imperfect material world. These are the conditions we are given! We must work within them! It is entirely possible and indeed incredibly important that you are able to become comrades with someone you dislike as a person. Or, take me for example, a deeply strange and offputting chainsmoking alcoholic tgirl. A liberal would say that, because I support the communist movement that then I must be its entire representative. Again, this is a deeply liberal framework of analysis. The point is to be aware where you are attacking their ideas and where their person; a slight but crucial distinction.

i remember when people would say that stede would be really mad at ed for leaving his crew to die on a tiny island but i guess that is not going to be the case at all because he's saying "i don't care what any of you say, he's actually a good guy" right to the faces of the people he stranded lmao

the summer after finishing university in New York, Marinette gets invited to a camping trip with Alya and Nino and his best friend. which, honestly, is for the best. at least she has more time than the four years she's already had to figure out how to reach out to her one-time superhero partner, with whom she fell out of touch after the reveal.
only, it's Adrien Agreste waiting for them on the meeting point, beaming so hard at her that it's blatantly obvious they know each other well. in her panic, what is Marinette supposed to tell Alya and Nino to protect their identites, if not that they used to date?
(fake exes AU x there was only one tent)

mission launch for minkowski's crew was in march 2013. ostensibly, they were put through some mission training, though the extent and effectiveness of that is kinda dubious. pagliacci takes place in 2013, exact date unspecified. but it has to be early. let's say... mid-january.
eiffel thought he had ruined the rest of his life before he'd even turned thirty. he probably spent his thirtieth birthday in jail. and then... for some number of days, weeks, maybe even a couple of months, he exists in this state of, well. of limbo. cutter gets him released from prison, and flies him out to canaveral. he doesn't speak to his family, obviously. they don't want to hear from him, and don't even know. he's still a prisoner, but no one around him knows that, either. at some point in this time frame, goddard first exposes him to decima, before hilbert even knows who he is. and he lives wherever goddard is accommodating him, and he has to go about his day-to-day life in this transitory state between a 26-year sentence he'd just started really grappling with, and the very immediate reality he's now about to be sent into deep space instead.
they give him a certain amount of freedom; it's not like he can go anywhere. he doesn't do much, anyway, is not feeling appreciative for his momentary second chance at life, given the circumstances. he blows off most of his mission training, and they're surprisingly lax about that, which in retrospect probably should have been a sign. he sits around and smokes, mostly. gets takeout food. but he goes to see movies, as much as he can. as much as he wants to punish himself, he needs to do something, or he'll go crazy, and it's not like he'll get a chance to see a movie in a long time. he was already resigning himself to maybe never going to a movie theater again.
the film adaptation of les misérables was released in december 2012. it's entirely feasible it could've been one of the movies he saw in this time period. i think the idea adds some resonance to his shared reference with minkowski in the finale, at least, in the way it pulls things full circle. intentionally or otherwise. and, incidentally, the 2012 film adaptation of les misérables, a story that notably features an ex-convict protagonist seeking redemption, was released on december 25th. call that serendipity.
