I just remembered that the wonderful, unhinged drama Hotel King exists ( @dangermousie I’m holding you responsible). Should I do a rewatch with commentary…?

Coffee Princess K-Drama Roundup - March 2023
Big – Starring the delightful Gong Yoo (my future husband). It’s the Freaky Friday concept – a quirky teen swaps bodies with an older man (Gong Yoo). The reason everyone doesn’t love this drama as much as Goblin or Coffee Prince is because the writers shot themselves in the foot. We, the watcher, 100% fall in love with “Gong Yoo acting like a teen,” but when the souls return to the correct…

Hotel King. 7
Story: 8
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Innocent Man (kdrama) ; Hotelier (kdrama); My Secret Hotel (kdrama)
A classic kdrama that is hella melodramatic. It has an amazing cast with a pretty decent storyline that gets amped up to 100% filled with betrayals, secrets, romance, murder, revenge, evil villains (like evil evil) and heartbreaking events. There’s also some funny situations to break up all the melodramatic moments. Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae is magnificent in this their chemistry together is amazing as well. My only problem is that the drama is way too long and would of been a ten for me if it was edited down to at least ten to sixteen episodes. There was way to much repetitiveness to it going back and forth with the same issues, where no development of characters were happening nor the plot. Eventually it did get there. Overall it’s a nice drama especially if you like over melodramatic ones.

"Hotel King" Rewatch: Episode 3
The spell of sibling (??) bonding is, of course, immediately broken by Mo Ne assuming Jae Wan is the only one who could have known about her bird phobia and left the poor dead pigeon on her bed
It hurts me to watch him just stand there while she lashes out at him. He’s too used to it…
Woo Hyun talking about how Jae Wan and Chairman Ah were a perfectly-matched team and worked so well together makes Jae Wan that much more intimidating (he can put on such a perfect facade while simmering with vengeance and resentment underneath it all), but also more tragic (there must have been a significant part of him that spent the year they worked together aching to impress and please the father that supposedly discarded him)
I wonder if, instead of seeing himself as the Vice Chairman’s attack dog (bred for a purpose and given liberty to run off leash and hunt birds), Jae Wan sees himself more in that stray cat he leaves food out for (discarded, unwanted, and starving for affection)?
Now, if I were a big business man, I would not have important, private conversations about sabotaging coworkers in a room with literal paper for walls. But that’s just me
Man, the venom in Jae Wan’s eyes after that visiting chairman set his employee up to fail… unable to do anything or they could all lose their jobs…
I audibly gasped when Mo Ne barged into the meeting, dumped wine on Jae Wan, and ruined the entire business deal
I love how fiery their confrontation are every time
And then someone wearing a very similar suit to Jae Wan’s tries to drown her from behind. The dramaaaaa
I love the unconvincing CPR compressions lol. Obviously we can’t be breaking anyone’s ribs just for realism
Hey, Doctor man, you’re gonna monitor her for secondary drowning, right? Right??
Woo Hyun really has no fear for his job, does he?
Jae Wan: “I think it’s perfectly likely that Mo Ne accidentally drowned in one foot of water five seconds after I left her at the scene of her dad’s death.”
The gardeeen I’m crying!
Manager Baek starting to make her moves…
I absolutely love how, after the deal fails, Jae Wan immediately resorts to blackmail
Unfortunately, the man he learned blackmail from is also in fine form
And Woo Hyun, who is just as reckless and idealistic as Mo Ne, decides to air the dirty laundry in front of the entire hotel
What I admire about this drama is that it wastes no time. It doesn’t need buildup, it launches right into murder and mayhem from the start

Cha Jae-wan from Hotel King has to be one of the most traumatized characters I have come across. Man's entire life has been a lie 😂 from not knowing who his parents were, to his own father lying about his identity and being gaslighted and manipulated and beaten every single day...man has gone through A LOT.
On the other hand, Ah Mo-ne is one of the most poorly written female characters 🫠 I fail to understand how she could be so dumb. Girl, what did you learn in the US? She did absolutely nothing to save her father's hotel and blindly kept believing in people who constantly reminded her not to trust them 🙄
