On a Starry Night (2023, Japan)
Directors: Yoshihiro Fukagawa & Daisuke Yamamoto
Writer: Shizuka Oishi
Mini-review:
I finally got around to watching this drama starring two of my favorite Japanese stars, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. First of all, I was surprised by how objective it was when it came to handling sensitive issues related to motherhood and pregnancies. J-dramas tend to be heavy-handed with this type of stuff, but not this one (not always, at least). The rest of the writing was a bit messy, with many of the characters acting way more stupidly than they're supposed to be. However, the cast is so good that it didn't bother me too much. Tbh my biggest complaint about the writing is that the male lead is too pushy and hot-headed, even if this is my favorite Takumi Kitamura performance so far. And thankfully, the character does get better as the show goes on, and I loved that the writer didn't fall into the "saintly, innocent disabled character" trope that's usually found in many Asian dramas. Anyway, On a Starry Night is far from perfect, but it made me laugh and cry, and I don't ask for much more these days.

I know that sasaki doesn't like her that way but did Issei actually invite him to third wheel?? I know they were going for a love triangle but polyamory is always an option too
