The problem with 3zun is that you *think* they’d be textbook ashen but in no way do any of them actually feel ashen.

Xichen’s got zero hate in his little heart for his outer leaves (BIG mistake, dude, how are you supposed to be properly strict as an auspistice if you don’t even have the proper hatemance feels) and then you have Mingjue who is just. SO hung up pity-wise on JGY, it is in no way actual pitch, healthy or unhealthy. JGY, I have a hard time getting a read on, but he did actively kill NMJ so I don’t think he’s feeling very conciliated right now.

I think Xiyao might be flushed, Nieyao might be a very unconventional shade of pale, and Nielan is ???. I dunno what Nielan is, actually.

It’s just not proper ashen. Just really not. Which probably makes sense, given all the murder and rage involved, but still. In NO WAY do these three count as anything other than a tragic ashen disaster.

in a way being terrible at conciliatory feelings feel like textbook homestuck! and I get the impression that auspisticeships might be less likely to be long-term relationships than other quadrants.

(if the auspistice does their job well enough that means at some point the outer leaves stop being tempted to murder one another, right? thus removing the need for an auspisticeship. or maybe there's tons of extremely low-key auspisticeships which are basically a trio of friends watching a movie every Wednesday, and every once in a while two of them remember they're supposed to be duking it out so they start arguing over take-out and the third person is "oh no. stop this. you shouldn't fight. can you get me a beer? nice, thanks.")

If 3zun are in an auspisticeship, I wonder if Nielan isn't also pale - or at least LXC entertains the thought at times. Specifically LXC thinking he can Fix NMJ re: JGY and surely being NMJ's auspistice helps with that, right? It's conciliatory as well. It can only help! (spoiler: it would not.)

Tragically I think Nieyao might have been able to get a good pale-pitch vacillation going had LXC been less involved (and JGS less motivated to remove NMJ). I fully admit this is my bias for pale-pitch ships talking.

honestly continually perplexed that ‘the Ancestors and Dancestors are best interpreted as devices for exploring/illuminating the depths and contrasts within and about the characters of the central trolls, not as characters in their own right’ seems to be a minority opinion. it was just pretty obvious to me from the get-go that that’s what they were.

*except Meena/HIC, who I actually think of as the central troll of that grouping, with Feferi serving as a narrative foil/depth-building exercise for her.

#it was certainly more interesting to me to realise #’Oh damn Meena/HIC has that connection to *Feferi*!#than the other way around #she just wasn’t really around long enough for me to develop Care for her esp when the narrative already had a Jade #stuckhome syndrome #homestuck on main
