Educate before spreading hate. We remain ignorant by choice. Simply not understanding something isn't the issue. We all have that in common. The line is then drawn: will we try to learn and understand the deeper issues that lie way beneath the surface? The pain and hopelessness that caused me and countless others to turn to drugs and booze, thinking it was the only solution, the only thing that could make it all go away?
Or, will we give up on people because you think we decided one day that we wanted nothing more than to be consumed by our addiction and destroy every single thing in our lives that meant anything to us? I know where many of my friends on this site stand on this issue. I can't change people's beliefs, but I urge you to please stop treating us like we are scum, like we are spineless savages that deserve to die because it will make the world a better place.
All of these gross thoughts I'm writing are actual thoughts people have expressed to me, some knowing I'm in recovery, while others have no clue what I've been through and continue to go through on a daily basis.
I've lost too many good people to this disease. Just take a minute to think about why did I resort to drugs and alcohol in the first place? Only I really know that answer and it is different for everyone, but I can assure you I never hoped things would end up the way they did. I'm a "drunk," "leech," "trash." Whatever you wanna call me. But hey, I bet if you took off the blinders and got to know me as a human being, much better words would be used to describe me. I'm not perfect by any means and I've been very destructive in the past, but I'm not that same guy. Not even close.

**Win an Epic, Private 3-City Helicopter Flight!
**Win an Epic Private 3-City Helicopter Flight sponsored by Newport Helicopter Tours© and The Herren Project**
The winner will fly in the co-pilot seat of our Iconic Viper Red Robinson R44 Helicopter, with pilot; Jeff Codman and photographer; Stephen Oliveira for an hour-long, three city tour! The winner will be chosen Friday, June 1, 2018!
The Epic flight will lift off from Newport Airport in Rhode Island and will fly north to Providence, Rhode Island.
The flight will circle over the city, pointing out the local landmarks. The aircraft will then fly east, following route 195 and will lap over Fall River,
Massachusett’s, Battleship Cove, the worlds largest collection of WW II naval vessels.
The voyage then turns south and heads back to historic, stuning Newport.
If you win, bring your camera and your sense of adventure!
