We are picking up a made-to-order cream cheese and pineapple king cake today for my mom’s birthday. I’m so excited! 

We’ve always done king cake for my birthday, and they’ve been so hard to find here up until the last couple of years. Usually we were paying way too much to some uppity place that was just ordering them from Louisiana and selling us a super stale cake, so then we just started ordering them shipped ourselves. This year for mine we got one made by a local donut chain, and omg it was so good -- it had crispy glazed donut-like edges! Even a couple of our local grocery stores are finally selling them. (Every grocery store had them in LA....) So glad we have more and better options now, after I’ve been here eleven years. True progress lol!
