For me, drinking tea is the easiest and quickest way to connect to the plant world. Taking the time to be mindful and taste the energetic of the herbs within my tea is a great way to connect to the spirit of that plant. Is it warming/cooling/electric to my soul and to my body? How is it interesting with the other herbs? What emotion am I feeling while consuming this tea? At the end I am grateful for the experience those herbs have brought me. How do you experience your connection with the plant world? #herbs #herbalism #herbalmedicine #plantconnection #herbalenergetics https://www.instagram.com/p/CYzHRRcr6iO/?utm_medium=tumblr

Episode 3 we are talking herbal energetics, or herbal actions! Herbal energetics are essentially the language herbal practitioners use for talking about botanicals and how they influence the body It is one tool we use for matching an herb to a person (basically the herbal version of biochemical individuality or one size does not always fit all) Have you listened to previous episodes of the podcast yet?! If so, let me know one new thing you learned! It is important to remember that you always have to meet yourself where you are in your health journey; the exciting thing is that you are only one minor adjustment away from getting closer to your wellness goals, as the saying goes, “small changes eventually add up to huge results”... keep on keeping on! You are in a long term committed relationship with your mental, emotional and physical health... it simply can’t be a fling! The process of acquiring life long health is dynamic and forever changing, try not to get too attached to any one ideology with any area of your health and loosen the grips a bit on super rigid/all or nothing approach to health, wellness and longevity What once worked amazing for you one week, one year or one minute again might not work for you currently in your health journey (even if you had wild success with a certain approach many moons ago) The state of your health is related to many factors, including the relationship of your genetics and lifestyle (aka epigenetic), how adaptable you are in general when exposed to “stress, toxins, pathogens etc” over our lifetime, the average of your daily habits and the ability to continue understand and evolve your personal health requirements When dis-ease ensues in the body, it is important that you assess not only our current state (are we in a state of deficiency or excess aka hypo or hyper, is there lack of nourishment, nutrient assimilation or decreased functioning, is there stagnancy etc?) but also what was happening in your life right before a decline in health began (was there something really stressful or traumatic that occurred, were you sleeping less, was your diet subpar, were you lacking energetic and emotional boundaries etc) #briannaapproved #holistichealth #herbalism #botanicalBri #botanicals #herbalenergetics #biochemicalindividuality #functionalmedicine #teamrootcause #longevity #epigenetics #recoveringsuperspaz #DailyD #emotionalhealth #mentalhealth (at Bradley Beach, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLPFmptDVVc/?igshid=16a2aire5xj1c

Did you know herbs can be divided into 12 main energetic categories based on their taste, constituents and basic effects on the body!? ✔️How herbs affect energy product: . ▪ Warming-herbs that stimulate/speed up metabolism, increase energy production and warmth, brings blood flow to tissues that are pale and cool ▪ Cooling-herbs that sedate or slow down metabolism and decrease energy production while cooling or soothing irritation and redness ✔️How herbs affect the density of tissues: . ▪ Moistening- herbs that increase the moisture content of tissues, aka they lubricate/ soften dry/hardened tissues ▪ Drying- herbs that remove excess fluid from tissue, making them more firm and dense, relieving conditions of dampness and swelling ▪ Balancing -herbs that normalize tissues that are either damp or dry, balances the amount of moisture and minerals within the tissues ✔️How Herbs affect muscle tone, flow and secretion: . ▪ Constricting-herbs that increase the tone or tension within muscles and other tissues, which stops excess flow and secretion; tone up tissues that have become overly relaxed/ weak that are secreting fluids such as blood or mucus ▪ Relaxing-herbs that relax muscle cramps and spasms, relieving excess tension in the tissues; promotes easier flow/ movement and can increase deficient secretions ▪ Nourishing- herbs that provide essential nutrients that aid tissue healing, improving tissue structure and function #briannaapproved #botanicalBri #herbs #plantmedicine #herbalenergetics #herbalist (at Ocean Grove, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKbfpjDjI7F/?igshid=1n44uv0w8ylqv

Did you know Hops are a bitter relaxing nervine and is both cooling and drying!? —- While I don’t love beer, I do LOVE the hops aka the ingredient used in making beer…most of the citrus, bitter and fruity undertones you find in beer can be attributed to the various varieties of hops —— Hops is indicated for nervous tension, especially when associated with digestive distress, pain, spasms, muscle tension and suited for those who have intense personalities and or strong emotions that may manifest and result as nervous exhaustion, worry and sleep disturbances (aka all my super spazes) —— The Energetics of Western Herbs describes hops being beneficial for the person that fits the profile of “hot-type” insomnia, which manifests as feeling restless or those who struggle to get to sleep —— Since Hop’s has a bitter taste, it can also be considered an aromatic digestive herb, which can support digestion, as well as stimulate the production of bile; can be indicated for stagnant and weak digestion as well as those who experience digestive discomfort associated with nervous tension (aka nervous tummy or GI issues because of being a nervous Nelly) as well as gas and bloating ——- Hops can also relax intestinal cramping as it has anti-spasmodic effects and historically was used to get rid of worms in the digestive tract —— Hops can also be beneficial to the skin as it has mild diuretic properties and is a mild alternative herb (gradually restore the proper function of the body)…in Chinese Medicine it is used to clear heat and dampness from the body, and can clear heat from the skin that is concurrent with inflammation such as in eczema and acne —— Hops are known for their sedative properties and it is said that the farmers who who were working in hop fields with their hands often felt excessively sleepy altering handling the plant, leading to its reputation as a sedative; Lupulin (which is the golden resin found in hop strobiles) is said to be responsible for this effect ——- #briannaaproved #Britanical #botanicals #herbs #herbalmedicine #plantmedicine #hops #insomnia #anxiety #recoveringsuperspaz #stress #nervine #herbalenergetics #digestion #inflammation (at Newark Liberty International Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDMANiDD1sW/?igshid=1qm0fd0yumks0

Thinking of all the ways I love to use dandelion.... —- Although many people write it off as a weed, dandelion has been used by herbalists and health practitioners alike for many years as a food and as a medicine —— Fresh dandelion roots have a sweet and slightly bitter taste, gently stimulating (It is both cooling and draining) and contain iron, manganese, carotenes, calcium, potassium, as well as inulin (a prebiotic); Dandelion leaves are considered to be bitter (so it can stimulate digestion); The roots are said to be more bitter in the spring and sweeter in the fall —— Dandelion root is considered to be both a choleretic (affects the liver) and a cholagogue (affects the gall bladder) —— Dandelion root has been used historically for liver congestion and signs of liver heat/stagnation, which signs can look like poor digestion (especially poor fat digestion or absorption), belching, estrogen dominance, excessive PMS symptoms (including bloating, clots, cramping, irregular bowel movements, and excess anger) —— In TCM signs of liver heat include red tongue (especially on the sides of the tongue), headaches behind or around the eyes, dry mouth, bitter taste in the mouth, tinnitus, bursts of anger, hot and itchy skin conditions, and dry and red eyes ——- #briannaapproved #botanicals #herb #liverhealth #liver #TCM #holistichealth #Britanicals #plantcompounds #herbalenergetics #plantmedicine #hotmessexpress (at Steamboat Springs, Colorado) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCYYsdIjJTD/?igshid=1g09iuowpjpsz

When thinking about holistic health, we have to look at the functional state of imbalances in Vital energy on a cellular, organ/system and personal level….in herbalism we refer to this as energetics and constitutional types (which is determined by the strength and functioning of organs), in western medicine we might call this biochemical individuality, or just the concept of there isn’t a one size fits all approach to ANYTHING when it comes to your health —— When dis-ease ensues in the body, it is important that you assess not only our current sate (are we in a state of deficiency or excess aka hypo or hyper, is there lack of nourishment, nutrient assimilation or decreased functioning, is there stagnancy etc?) but also what was happening in your life right before a decline in health began (was there something really stressful or traumatic that occurred, were you sleeping less, was your diet subpar, were you lacking energetic and emotional boundaries etc) ——- The state of your health is related to many factors, including the relationship of your genetics and lifestyle (aka epigenetic), how adaptable you are in general when exposed to “stress, toxins, pathogens etc” over our lifetime, the average of your daily habits and the ability to continue understand and evolve your personal health requirements —— You always have to meet yourself where you are . . Remember, what worked for you one week, one year or one minute again might not work for you currently in your health journey (even if you had wild success with a certain approach, diet, nutrient many moons ago)…the process of acquiring life long health is dynamic and forever changing, try not to get too attached to any one ideology with any area of your health and loosen the grips a bit on super rigid/all or nothing approach to health, wellness and longevity —— #briannaapproved #holistichealth #herbalism #botanicalBri #botanicals #herbalenergetics #biochemicalindividuality #functionalmedicine #teamrootcause #longevity #epigenetics #recoveringsuperspaz #DailyD #emotionalhealth #mentalhealth (at Ocean Grove, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_SPy8LDPb5/?igshid=3cgx25zeonw0
