You marry someone, half of everything you own is theirs without a prenup. Not many people know that and marriage is highly romanticized. Almost half of marriages end in divorce and 60-70% of second marriages end in divorce. The government wants to stick it's fingers into your love life. Study the history of marriage as a legal concept and what common law is all about state to state

Evelyn Smith
Evelyn Smith, Daughter of [information lost]. Active, Loyal, Music Lover
Early Life
Evelyn spent her young adulthood in Brindleton Bay, after graduating from high school. Instead of attending university, she spent her time exploring her favorite hobbies: Fishing, Gardening, and Handiness.
She became an expert angler, filling her notebook with information about each new species that she caught. Evelyn met her best friend while fishing. She was setting up a tent by her favorite secret fishing spot, when another sim appeared! She thought to herself, "I guess my secret fishing spot isn't so secret after all." She and the new sim became the best of friends.
Evelyn began growing seasonal veggies and flowers and soon her garden was bountiful. With help from Patchy the Strawman, her plants never faltered. With careful attention and plenty of all-natural fertilizer from the local waters, her plants steadily increased in quality.
Adulthood
As she approached adulthood, Evelyn began to wonder if she should start a family. Her friend, Salim Benali had similar ideas. The two briefly dated before marrying in Tartosa at a celebration attended by their closet friends. Evelyn was happy to adopt traditional clothing from Salim's culture for the ceremony. They enjoyed married life together while trying to conceive. Finally, their prayers were answered with their daughter Lyndsey (named for the famed adventurer of legend). Salim worked as a writer while Evelyn stayed home. When Lyndsey was old enough to attend preschool, Evelyn devoted herself to her garden, which by now had become quite profitable. The produce that Evelyn sold from her garden was such high quality that she was able to support the three of them almost entirely with just her income (a fact which would lead to Salim growing resentful with time).
Repairing things around the home became one of Evelyn's favorite pasttimes and as she became more proficient in the Handiness skill, she started upgrading anything around her home that could be upgraded. Her favorite project was her robotic vacuum cleaner (who was nicknamed "Bonky" by little Lyndsey.
Mid-Life Crisis
Salim found it difficult to progress forward in his career, with promotions few and far between. Over time, he became resentful of Evelyn's independence. His fears of unfulfilled dreams and being stuck in a dead-end job made him insecure and bitter. He began taking his frustration out on Evelyn regularly, belittling her and chewing her out for the slightest annoyance. He was lazy and would regularly leave his stinky laundry all over their little house. He rarely would clean up after himself and spent most of his time writing or napping. Evelyn on the other hand was active and loved to go jogging through their beautiful town.
Weary of Salim's constant complaining, Evelyn did something previously unthinkable to her. In a moment of weakness, she had an affair with none other than Father Winter. As usual, Salim had gone to bed early after a long day of not helping around the house. Father Winter shimmied out of the fireplace and right into Evelyn's... heart.
His kindness moved her and she laid with him, becoming pregnant with his child. As the next day dawned, she believed it all to be a dream. That is, until the morning sickness began. Salim, oblivious, simply complained more that she was throwing up all the time and unable to cook breakfast for him. A pregnancy test confirmed her suspicions and she knew what she had to do. The conversation with her husband was one of the most difficult things she ever had to do. He was devastated and she was equally wracked with guilt.
Evelyn divorced Salim and he moved back to San Myshuno with his cousin. This was extremely hard for Lyndsey because her parents had been very careful to hide their arguments from her. She began wearing a bear suit everywhere and refused to be seen without it. Evelyn showed compassion and empathy, even dressing in a similar bear suit to help Lyndsey adjust to the changes in the household. This brought the two together and helped Evelyn regain Lyndsey's trust.
Evelyn gave birth to Alondra Frost and struggled greatly with postpartum depression. She was unable to bond with her baby and hired a nanny to take care of her. Lyndsey saw her mother's sadness and tried to cheer her up whenever she could.
Elder Years
Evelyn never remarried, but she lived happily with her two daughters. They moved to Sulani so that Evelyn could soothe her aching joints in the warm waters. Lyndsey was brilliant and graduated early from Copperdale High. She married her childhood best friend, Annie Sterling, who moved in with them soon after. Evelyn absolutely adored Annie, and Annie saw Evelyn as everything her own mother, Bess Sterling, wasn't.
When Evelyn died, she was home with her family. She sat on the dock behind their house and looked up at the stars. She looked across the waves and heard the distant echoes of dolphins in the reef. The Grim Reaper sat down beside her and they chatted for a moment before Evelyn laid down and breathed her last.
She is remembered by her two daughters, Lyndsey Benali and Alondra Frost, along with her grandchildren Myron and Brody Sterling.

South-east side story
Tumblr media
Chris Difford from rock band Squeeze spent his early career in and around Deptford, playing at venues like the Oxford Arms and the Albany Empire. The Cool for Cats hitmaker tells us more
Born in south-east London almost 65 years ago, Chris Difford was brought up on King George Street on the edge of Greenwich Park.
After attending the local primary school, he moved up to West Greenwich Secondary Boys’ School in Deptford.
“At school there was a woodwork wing and a metalwork wing so you went in one of the two,” Chris recalls. “You were kind of being groomed to get a job in a factory – either a biscuit factory or a metalwork factory. I didn’t really want to do either of those.
“My brothers – one of them became an accountant and the other one became a villain. I didn’t really know which way to swing.”
After leaving school, Chris put a card in a shop window in Blackheath advertising for a guitarist to join his band, although he didn’t actually have one at the time.
Luckily for him, a 15-year-old Glenn Tilbrook – who had also recently left school – spotted the ad and was the sole person to get in touch.
“It was really obvious to me as I was growing up, being a loner with my imagination, that what I really wanted to do was write,” Chris says.
“I didn’t know what I was writing until I became an adult. It wasn’t until 1973 that I formed a band with Glenn and then suddenly I was off and running.”
The pair began writing together and recruited Jools Holland on the keyboard and Paul Gunn, an old school-friend of Glenn’s, on the drums. The group performed under various monikers before eventually settling on Squeeze, as a humorous tribute to the Velvet Underground’s universally panned album of the same name.
They started playing gigs towards the end of 1975 and their early career was spent in and around Deptford, where they were part of a thriving music scene.
“When I was growing up, the biggest local band that I knew of was Status Quo,” Chris says. “Dire Straits were from the north-east but they lived in Deptford. Mark [Knopfler] used to live next door to me so I knew them.
“There were lots of bands around that time because the Albany Empire was a place where everybody wanted to play. We cut our teeth playing in local pubs really, like the Oxford Arms [now The Birds Nest] and the Bricklayers Arms.
“Catford Girls’ School was our first proper gig. What a wonderful thing – I wore makeup especially! We also played at St Dunstan’s [College, also in Catford] in the hall. Steve Nieve, Elvis Costello’s keyboard player was in the audience.”
Squeeze were originally signed up to Deptford Fun City, a label owned by Miles Copeland. Miles was manager of The Police and his brother Stewart played drums for the band.
Squeeze’s first EP – and most of their debut album – was produced by John Cale, of Velvet Underground fame, for A&M Records. But the album’s two hit singles, Take Me I’m Yours and Bang Bang, were produced by the band themselves, as the label found Cale’s recordings somewhat on the uncommercial side.
Tumblr media
Squeeze’s second album, Cool for Cats, followed in 1979 and contained their two highest charting singles in the UK: Cool for Cats and Up The Junction, which both reached number two.
Despite the turbulent times, politics wasn’t part of the band’s lyrics, which Chris was mainly responsible for.
“I’m more of a kitchen sink songwriter,” he says. “I’ve tried putting my arm behind my back to write political songs but I don’t think I’ve ever been good at it and I’d like to leave it to the people who know what they’re talking about.
“I actually find politics extremely dull and full of egoistical people, rather like the music business was 20 years ago. It’s about ego rather than feeling. Maybe it’s the hippy in me, but if I was over in the Houses of Parliament I’d give everyone a hug and tell them to grow up.”
Squeeze separated for the first time in 1982 and Chris and Glenn hooked up with John Turner to create a musical, Labelled with Love, using the songs of Squeeze. It was performed at the Albany in Deptford in 1983.
“Glenn and I wrote the music,” Chris says. “It ran for three months and sold out all the time. Tim Rice came down to see it and he enjoyed it very much. It had legs and had the possibility of moving on, but I don’t think we had the oxygen for that at the time. It needed a bit more tweaking from a writing point of view.
“It was all set in a pub and was very south London. I don’t know whether it would be successful today but I’d like to see it work now.”
In 1985 Squeeze reunited and released a new album, Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti. Two years later came Hourglass, the first single from their seventh album, with a video directed by Ade Edmondson and an appearance from their old pal Jools Holland.
“Ade Edmondson directed it but Jools had quite a big role in it,” says Chris. “It featured a lot of his ideas. It got us an award on MTV – that’s what you needed in America in those days to get you from theatres into stadiums and that’s what it did.”
The video was regularly aired on MTV and the heavy promotion of one of their finest songs resulted in the highest charting single Squeeze ever had in the USA, reaching number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 16 back home in the UK.
In between stints with Squeeze, Chris continued writing songs with Glenn, and he also wrote lyrics for music composed by artists like Elton John and Elvis Costello.
“Elvis gave me a song to write the lyrics for,” he recalls. “I think it was one of the first times I’d been asked to write the lyrics for somebody other than Glenn. It was kind of weird.”
Chris spent a few years as a solo artist and then went into managing acts including Bryan Ferry and The Strypes. “I loved it,” he says. “It’s not really management; it’s more like mentoring, or just being a mate to somebody.
“When you’re managing you have to be there 24/7. Sunday morning you’d get a phone call because someone’s had a tree fall in their swimming pool and you’d have to be there to fix it.”
Surprisingly, he didn’t miss the buzz of performing. “I was still experiencing that through the person I was working with,” he explains. “I really like being on the side of the stage. I love being able to feel the electricity that an artist can give an audience. And to be a bit like the Wizard of Oz I suppose, behind the red curtain.”
In 2015, Chris and Glenn hooked up again to write songs for the BBC Two series Cradle to Grave.
“It gave Glenn and me a focus and a reason to write a record and we needed that after so many years,” Chris says. “We did an incredible job and it was beautifully produced. The songs were really great and I’m really proud of them.
“It was nice to know that Glenn and I could still write a decent song if we worked at it. It felt like a new relationship and I enjoyed that.”
Chris finally wrote his memoir, which was published in the summer of 2017.
“The book really helped me find a new lease of life. Very quickly I realised people aren’t interested in CDs anymore, but books they love. To stand up and do a show and at the end sign books, people love that.
“The year before last I did 98 shows and last year I did 102. I did two weeks in Edinburgh and that really changed things.
“I’m now in the position of having to write the second show and the next book. I’m taking time to figure out what that’s going to be.”
Although still a frequent visitor to London, Chris moved out of the capital some years ago and now lives in East Sussex with his wife, Louise.
“I’ve sold all my guitars and just built a writing room in my garden,” he says.
He currently manages a young artist called Honey, who is signed to Elton John’s record label Rocket. “She has her first record coming out this summer and she’s extraordinarily talented and I’m really excited about her,” Chris says.
“At the other end of the stick, there’s [tenor and musical theatre star] Alfie Boe, who I also work with. He’s genuinely a very funny man – he’s lovely.”
Chris also spends a fair amount of time running workshops, including a recent session at the Brit School in Croydon. And as for the future, he’s mulling a return to musicals.
“I’m investigating one as we speak,” he says. “Every other week I go and see a musical. I’ve been to see a couple of Stephen Sondheim ones, including Follies. The songs are terrific.
“To be able to write a musical and be in the wings most definitely has appeal. The reality is it probably won’t happen in my lifetime. It takes such a long time to develop these things. For the time being, it’s a hobby.”
I end by asking him if he could go back 50 years, what advice would he give to his teenage self?
“I’d fail to think of anything really,” he says. “The mistakes I’ve made have all been part of the jigsaw of who I am today.
“I feel it would have been nicer to have been more successful perhaps, and shrewder with whatever income I would have had as a younger man, instead of spending it all.”
Chris is currently touring the UK and Ireland. For full details, visit chrisdifford.com/tour

The Power of Your Knowing Your Why
Because of My Podcast: Free Tickets
2:00
Brad from the Cinema Guys ( www.wearethecinemaguys.com ) explains how he was approached by a small local Cinema Chain who listens to his podcast. Brad worked a deal that enables him to get tickets to movies. Brad (being the cool guy he is) is using them as a give away for his audience. He has also worked to do a screening of Brad's all-time favorite horror movie, "John Carpenter's The Thing." They get to introduce the movie and then do a Q&A afterward.

Why Knowing Your Why Matters
8:00
It keeps you focused. You are no longer distracted by things that don't help you achieve your goal.
If you know why you're doing something, you can see the results clearer. This enables you to spot the small victories that then motivate you to keep going.
It is then the motivation that enables you to try again.
When another small victory comes along, you get another dose of motivation, and a pinch of this thing called confidence.
How My "Why" Gave Me Super Powers
I had been wanting to lose weight, and over the last year, I have been going up and down. I would get down to maybe 218 lbs, and then go up to 221 or 222. I wanted to get up and go to the gym in the morning. I knew to drink lots of water, and get plenty of sleep. I knew what to do. However, when I listed my priorities I wrote down things like rewriting my book More Podcast Money, I needed to update some tutorials at the School of Podcasting, and take a class on SEO. Nowhere in there is anything about my health. That's when I realized why I wasn't losing weight. It simply was not a priority.
I got a call from letting me know that I was being inducted into the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame. The minute I hung up the phone, I said out loud, "Well somebody's getting up early tomorrow." While it is somewhat weird, as I normally try not to care what people think of me, I knew there would be lots of pictures. I even hired a photographer to take pictures during my presentation. Suddenly,  like a light switch, I had willpower. I had focus. I had a purpose. No longer did I need to watch TV. I realized that most of the taped TV shows I use to watch rarely delivered any real value. I could take that time and use it at the gym, or walk around, or cook healthy food, and THAT would deliver value to my goal of losing weight.
When You Know Your Why You Can Make it Through the How
“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you discover why you were born.– Mark Twain
Apple Podcasts hits 550,000 Podcasts
I listened to my first episode, and in it, I mention in April of 2005, there were maybe "4000" podcasts. This article says in 2005 there were 3000 podcats, now there are 550,000 and according to this TechCrunch article, there have been Fifty billion episodes have been streamed/downloaded since launch. The new numbers include 18.5 million individual episodes representing 155 countries, in more than 100 languages.
So in 2005 when I was explaining to people how cool podcasting was, and how awesome it was that you could "teel the software to watch this site" (better known today as a subscription) and that you didn't ' need a Mac, and you didn't need an iPod to listen. IT WAS PAINFUL as many people just didn't get it (it took a while for me to get it). But I knew the potential power of podcasting, and I had quit listening to radio, and I wanted people to experience the same joy I had found. It didn't seem hard because if I helped ONE person understand and start listening to podcasts, and I had ONE more person to talk about Dawn and Drew with, it was worth my time and effort.
When you know you're why the "work" doesn't seem like work. It just seems like something you do. When I first started playing the guitar it was BRUTALLY PAINFUL, but I knew I wanted to play. I wanted to be like my brother (who played) and so the pain wasn't so bad. I knew it was temporary, and I could make it through the how.
My "Whys"
I get to help people (my background is in training. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education specializing in Technical Education from the University of Akron)
It's creative (my hobbies are music, writing, photography, poetry).
It's geeky (I get to play with software to build websites, track downloads, and more)
I get to leave a very small fingerprint on the planet. Neither of my marriages produced any children. The word "Legacy" seems a bit much, but you get my point.
I am meeting and creating great friends.
It's helping me to pay off my student loans
If I lost my job today, I would have a cushion of money coming to tie me over (and in reality, I would probably be able to the School of Podcasting Ful time)
I'm not sure what I would do with my free time if I didn't.
Your Why's Might Be:
Share your knowledge
Get your message out out
Promote a business
Stay connected to friends and family
Be seen as an expert
Open the door to possibilities
Find like-minded people
Inner office company communication
Educate
Entertain
Getting the Motivation To Start
I just listened to a great episode of the You Wanna Do What? Podcast by Monica Rivera where she interviewed Jeff Haden about motivation. It was a really good interview and had some great insights into motivation. Including:
You only need enough motivation to start. If you set small achievable goals, those "little wins" give you the motivation to try again and keep moving. So some examples of small achievable goals my be
Buying your equipment
Plugging everything in and making your first recording
Getting your artwork
Publishing your first episode
Syndicating to Apple, Stitcher, etc
Getting 10 downloads for an episode
Getting 50 downloads an episode
When accomplishing these little milestones, it feeds your motivation to keep going.
25:10
Brenda from My Tech Toolbelt explain how her kids are grown, and while she is thankful for her job, it can be kind of boring, and she is podcasting because she enjoys learning. Yes, there is a lot to learn but as she put it, "It's fun. It's exciting, and I've already got two press passes (to be continued)"
27:37
Jim Collison from The Average Guy Network (and my Co-host for Ask the Podcast Coach) is a lot like me. We both love being around people, we both love helping people. We both like to talk and to influence people to help them do things.
The #1 Killer of Motivation and Why Podcasting is Like Golf
30;03
There is a reason that employees at companies are strongly urged not to share their income amount with other employees. If two people share that information, one person is leaving that meeting upset. So when people share how many downloads they get in a Facebook group, and their numbers are three times as many as you, ignore it and instead of focusing on their numbers, focus on your audience and how you can serve them.
If two golfers shared their scores, someone is going to think, "WHAT?! How is that person better than me? Well, there are a number of factors:
Better equipment
More experience
Better coaching
Better attitude
More athletic
More time to practice
So if you came to me and said, "I can't believe they are better than me! And I answered:
Your sound quality is very distracting
You have half as many episodes
They have a completely different niche
They have more time to promote their show
They have a budget to market your show and you don't
They have no children and you have five
They went to the School of Podcasting and you watched outdated YouTube Videos
Wouldn't you be able to see why someone might be getting more downloads than you (and keep in mind, there are more ways to measure podcast success than downloads).
So unless you want to detail your podcast DON'T COMPARE YOUR SHOW TO OTHER PODCASTS.
Heli PR77D Microphone Shootout
  35:02
The Heil PR77D is basically a Heil PR40 with a bass roll-off switch, and something that will look very cool in any videos. It comes in black and purple and retails for $249 where the Heil PR40 is $308. You will hear these with my mic preamp the DBX 286 $199 off during the shootout.
In today's shootout, I compare it to an
Electrovoice RE320 $299
Audio Technica AT2005 $79,
Audio Technica BP40 $349,
Blue Yeti $129
The Heil PR77D has that traditional warm Heil Sound. When I switched it voice mode (which cuts out frequencies below 120Hz) it seems a little too clear for my voice). It comes with a nice black velvet bag to keep it in. It's a very sturdy microphone, and I love the retro look.
Of the microphones above, the only one I steer people away from is the Blue Yeti unless you PROMISE to read the manual, buy an over-priced pop filter, and use it on a boom arm. I personally use the Electrovoice RE320, but I liked the warmth of all the Heil Microphones and I need to play with it a little more to see how the proximity effect is (if it has more bass when you get close to it). The rear rejection seemed about as good as the other microphones.

With the right app, the touch display turns into an interface for the musical instrument and the cellphone’s motion sensors act as modulators for the sound. Despite the fact that studios and big concert halls maintain to apply conventional mixing consoles, many hobby musicians are the usage of apps as mobile studios.
“In my enjoy, music apps have replaced the tuner and the metronome for lots of musicians,” Krebs says. But, he doesn’t agree with they’ll ever update musical gadgets.
“Each device has its very own characteristics since the electric powered guitar does no longer replace the acoustic guitar and the keyboard does not update the piano.”
Encouraged apps consist of the unfastened Keezy Drummer for novice drummers, iSpark – a comprehensive solution for producing advanced beats – and the pattern app Sampler.
There is also Crazy which converts voices into beats that could then be organized according to taste. The app is specifically appropriate for training beatboxing. Then there’s Pyka_Loop, an app for looping microphone recordings.
For general novices, Krebs recommends the loose iOS app SoundPrism. This generates harmonious sounds that make it less difficult to compose chord sequences or whole songs.
