Everyone’s talking about the mausoleum scene in Succession and how it represents the way the family was doomed from the beginning. But here’s the thing right? It’s incredibly easy not to end up in a mausoleum. Like what’s Logan gonna do about it? Kendall makes a single annotation to his testament or will and he ends up at whatever resting place he wants. It is insanely easy to not be buried somewhere you don’t wanna be buried, especially if you’re that rich. But they’re not going to do that. That, to me, is the true horror of that scene. If it was just “wow Logan built a mausoleum for all of them”-who cares? It wouldn’t be the first time the Roy kids refused their father’s wishes or demands. But they won’t do it. You can joke about killing him, you will still cry at his funeral. You say you’d piss on his grave but you stumble to his casket, “is he in there?”. They’re all children in one way or another and even decades after Logan’s death they won’t even dare think about disobeying that rotting decaying body that once housed their father. They WILL end up in that mausoleum, each in their own bunk, trapped with an abuser they love. The tragedy of Succession is more than being poisoned at birth, even more than loving the poison. They can’t live without it. “What is Logan gonna do?” Nothing, he already did it. The game was rigged from the start.

Obsessed with the death imagery around Sampson btw. Smelling like a dead rat, skulking like a ghost. The last survivor of a dead world, only he's barely surviving, certainly not living. The idea of these cultural ascetics is super cool but feels unfathomably sad to me.

Sampson is a detached limb of a dead body. He's a lopped-off finger dropped in formaldehyde and declared "See! The flesh persists!" of a body that has perished.

There are many ways to be tragically and beautifully dead in metaphor. Sampson is not that. Sampson rots. He's off-putting. He disgusts. He's isolated and alone and just... exists half-dead and half-rotten, has to exist, no one is allowing him the dignity to deboard the ship, and live the rest of his human life, and die a human death as the last death of his culture.

He dies more, rots more, when Carson steals and destroys his tome, because Sampson is nothing but the aimless vestige of his culture, alive only to keep it alive... and what is alive? No one is learning the culture. It's not spreading. It's not growing. It's not being studied and remembered and appreciated. ...It's just Sampson, whose only duty is to persist, and persist as long as long as long as possible... as if infinite persistence is the same as life...

Carson was not joking when he said Sampson would kill himself in the wake of the cargo getting ransacked. Carson was dead-fucking correct to think Sampson would kill himself. Those cultural artifacts are all that Sampson stays half-alive for. They're all he is. If they were stolen on his watch, ostensibly by his own fault... Carson was dead-fucking correct.

I’m still at a loss as to what happened to roman, I’d like to hear your interpretation if you could

I’ve been trying to answer this for a bit now and I’m just going to cut to the most important part of my interpretation, so feel free to ask again if you want more. 

Basically, I keep coming back to the No Real Person Involved narrative Succession introduced in season 2. When does the story apply NRPI and who to? The waiter and the cruise ship victims. What do they have in common? Abuse of power. The waiter’s death is swept under the rug, because Logan Roy can make it so; the cruise victims and their sexual abuse becomes meaningless in the face of a media empire. 

But Roman also is told “you are not a real person”. He is told he remembers the dog cage, the defining thing of his childhood, wrong. He tends to make jokes refering to sexual abuse about himself (whereas the violent language of sex other characters use is reserved for business only), but nobody fully reacts to these comments with more than “wtf?”. The narrative essentially places Roman on the same level as the abused women on the ships; the violence from within the Roy family reaching outwards and coming back around.

The SA jokes, especially, are tricky territory, because at some point you have to make a decision whether they should be taken at face value or not. Here is the thing though, to me they all have an eerily similar theme- Telling the therapist about Connor SA-ing him? The comment about the camp counselor fucking him? The hostage situation ending in SA? The whole “if we agree on a wrong thing it’s not actually wrong” (which is seriously not something someone just comes up with, like, that thought has been there for a while)? The cut line of “trust me” “that’s what men say before they rape you”? Taking the leap from “well connected” to pedophilia? It becomes a pattern when you look at it like that.

Now, Roman says he was sent to military school after he “went weird” which might give us pause at this point, because wtf does that even mean. There is an empty space here. Yeah, maybe Logan sent Roman away because he was sent away as well and thought it might make him “stronger”. But maybe he just sent him away, because Logan always sensed something about his son that wasn’t right. And maybe, just maybe, the parallel of the cruise victims being silenced and a child being sent away to be silenced even starts here. Maybe Logan knew to sweep something under the rug before Kendall's accident.

Oh, and military schools- one can only guess what goes on behind closed doors. You essentially have authority (even paternal) figures that can do just about anything. 

What happened to Roman? Probably nothing, right?

kokichi's fit is a sleek, sharp black. but still comfortable to move and store things in. He can still be silly and dramatic in it but It's be really cool for his new fit to be purposefully cold, controlled and intimidating , a good contrast from his usual clownness to really grab their attention. //need to explain this one to be an 'oh! he was doing that to distract us' but more... oomf . hm He has a a white glove, and a black one to draw more attention to the former. black captain hat with devil horns, or just the horns? hm. plus the black cape for the demon bat silhouette. inside is one of those cool n kinda slutty but loose all black formal fits, like (ahhh i need to get pack into drawing or outfit scrapbooking but imagine with me)

**** gonta's black choker and kokichi's white gloves is supposed to a) show their connection via the colours lol. but also represent a dog on a leash deal. however gonta can take off and on the choker when he pleases, showing his willingness and equal choice in this operation despite it seeming like ouma has the upper hand [plus feeding into the 'ouma is controlling him!' schtick their classmates got going on, thus making them suspect him less and not believe him and kokichi are purposefully working together! boom baby

Warning, sasuke-posting...

Here's the thing. About sasuke. He's really difficult for fans to characterize or interpret correctly. And thats not me going "oh I'm the only one who understands him" but because the way he is written and his "less is more" conversational style (generally..) makes it that way. Like, he'll do something completely unexpected and surprising given what we know about him, until significantly later when he'll explain and suddenly you realize it was consistent with his character all along. Or he'll do something completely expected, but you realize dozens of chapters later that he did it for reasons other than what you originally assumed. Some of it is bad or inconsistent writing that needed to be retconned but what you end up with is someone who feels more human than certain other characters like naruto, as much as I love that kid he's the platonic ideal of shonen protags. Whereas sasuke has been controversial as a character since basically chapter 10, half the audience loves him half hate him, because he is a confusing character whose wants and desires change over time while still having that basis of Sasuke, like a human person.

And that's the way it's gone with fan interpretations, people will read sasuke and develop this idea of what he's like, but if you look away from the source material for five minutes to think about it/write fan fiction/draw a fan comic/come to a conclusion about who he is, and you look back at the source material suddenly he's changed or you were wrong from the beginning.
