Not peeps on twitter discovering Blue Submarine No .6 because progtag Tetsu Hayami is a Wolfwood "lookalike" 😵💀🤣

But seriously it's a great series even if the source material is damn near impossible to track down (1967 manga and 97' manga) the 4 part OVA series is a dystopian sci-fi treat. There's two video games that may have never been released outside Japan (good luck finding those). A favorite watch for me cause I loved the creature designs and it's an entertaining sci-fi romp. Blend up The Island of Dr Moreau, Waterworld, post climate crisis, battle subs and you got the gist of the series.

Watching Blue Submarine No 6, my favorite anime of all time, with Han, who has never seen it.

It isn’t that Hayami Tetsu is my Type so much that he is the reason my Type exists. He codified it. Disaster garbage man who got so fucked over by Life Events that he tried to carve his own idealism out of himself, but was never quite able to extinguish that last little spark. And he presents as this cynical nihilistic douchebag that is extraordinarily difficult to work with-- and also will jump into fire (or in this case, the ocean) in order to help others. Who spends a significant part of the show making snide comments and having to be dragged around by Kino, but then the fire is lit and he comes out as the most idealistic person in the cast. Oh and also he almost drowns a few times and is on the receiving end of the most brutal beatdown I’ve seen in animation.

So yeah. Hayami.
