So sad to travel though Eskdale and see the scale of the destruction from Cyclone Gabrielle to orchards vineyards houses and property. #orchards #apples #hawkesbay
About 35 minutes north of Napier is Lake Tutira. It's nestled among the hills, just off State Highway 2.
There are actually two lakes here, separated by a narrow stretch of land, and it is the smaller Lake Waikopiro that we walked around.
There was this very cute red church across the lake which allowed me to make use of my longer lens, something I rarely have the chance to do
It was then because I had gotten my longer lens out that I realised it would be perfect to take photos of the flowers & animals along the walk.
These geese seemed rather fascinated with this one sheep, they all marched over en masse and just pecked around it.
The walk goes past some small farms and parts of the path are actually used for sheep grazing, which meant we got rather close to a big flock.
As we ventured down the path they were on, they sped ahead, but we'd soon catch up so they'd zoom off again, until eventually they all hid under the trees and let us pass.
One last photo of the little red church, it had such an idyllic look about it.
I had been a little unsure whether the drive to the lake would be worth it as several of the other walks on the way I knew were closed, but I'm well glad we made the trip.
I’m not sure who thought this was a good location for their team portrait. The history of this building is fascinating, the land was purchased in 1918 by Jack Holden a successful sheep farmer. The original building on the site was partially destroyed in an earthquake in 1931. At that time it was occupied by a drapery called Sunderland’s Drapery owned by Francis Nutter. The current building was constructed in the Art Deco style to replace the damaged building and the drapery changed its name to Nutters, they stayed in the building until the 1960’s . . . . . #artdeco #holdensbuilding #1933 #building #estateagent #originalsign #nutters #hastings #aotearoa #newzealand #hawkesbay #arcitecture #AGarnett #history #bluesky #photooftheday #fujifilmgfx100s (at Hastings, New Zealand) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgxFaPWsHYT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
