your oc lore heavily revolves around krakening you say 👀?? I really enjoy your splatoon ocs and i remember peppermint has a kraken condition of some sort (btw she’s one of my favourites i love her :3), but I don’t know much about your lore for it besides the contents of the kraken special post. can you share anything further about it, or point me to any posts where you’ve talked about it before?

Thank you! it makes me really happy when people like seeing my OCs. And to be fair Peppermint seems to be the one I draw the most lately... her lore specifically centers around the Kraken a LOT. Honestly, as for stuff about it, I don't really have much more than the Kraken post out in public (everything lives rent free in my brain). This comic i started making the other day taking place in like 2021 is extremely relevant to this topic... it's going to have at least one continuation, and i find it funny that the kraken was revealed to be re-added to the game literally 1 day after i posted this

But the gist of it is that yeah Peppermint does have Kraken syndrome, which triggered in around 2014 - she'd been playing for like four years OBSESSIVELY and she was kind of insane about turf wars. Per my story, her main was the Krak-On Splat Roller (and later the Custom Range Blaster) but uh... canonically, we don't know ANYTHING about the turf war scene prior to 2015 and whether those weapons existed at all yet, so you have to use your imagination on that. (I WISH WE KNEW, BY THE WAY.) She was genuinely going to pursue becoming a professional ink battler, but obviously her body said otherwise because involuntarily Krakening because you got too stoked about the match or got a bit too heated about an enemy player is kind of bad. Like really bad on every possible level.

So needless to say, she had to quit very much to her dismay and it was a primary reason why the blue team (which Engel was also part of!) ended as a whole. Doctors were busting their ass trying to figure out what the hell was triggering the transformations and why it was so easy, given that the drug was probably fairly new at the time and she was likely one of the first people out there to have Kraken Syndrome (Krakening like 6 times a day will do that to you), at least two years before cases of it would start more commonly popping up.

She's had meds for it for years and they seem to work fine, so it's not really a problem for her (except in the mornings sometimes and if she like, forgets to take them.) but she did go like the entire Splatoon 2 era without attending turf wars pretty much at all just because she was really worried things were going to go south, and again, none of her teammates really play anymore. She returned to Turf Wars for the first time in forever last year sort of on impulse as her and Amber happened to land in Splatsville just in time for the Rock-Paper-Scissors Splatfest and decided hey, why not. (then proceeded to be on different teams, so never mind.)

Um, she's been using the Splat Roller lately and enjoying more of a support position instead of Kill Everything Immediately, but now her actual main is coming back, WITH THE KRAKEN... I don't think she's going to be taking up on that offer and I don't think she's super thrilled about it.

u may think lan play is only for local games, but with this computer program from lan-play.com, you can just enter the name of any of the lan servers listed on the website and you can play splatoon 2 and 3 with anyone, even without NSO!! :D

OHO YES! there is no such thing as bad timing to ask about ocs, im just incredibly happy that somebody is interested!! heheh time to Ramble (this is long sorry)

ok so im gonna stick to the bird kids cuz theyre a lot easier to explain GSJFD (maybe someday ill give my other ocs refs and backstory stuff....)

all four of em are very much based off how i play the game as each character, so i pretty much just grab my in-game behaviour and give it to em as a personality.

so, lorikeet! splat3 is still very new but i think ive somehow already solidified their personality lmao. theyre super reckless, pretty much always falling off stages and getting themself splatted by doing stupid things like running headfirst to a tacticooler or trying to challenge the eliter that wont leave them alone (i think mahi-mahi is the absolute worst for this). they like to go a little bit cazy and get as many kills as possible, which is silly when the only mode u play is turf war... (on that, there is not a single splatoon game that has gotten me to like ranked/league. i played it a few times and then swore off it, so now all four of the kids hate ranked lol)

lori fucking ADORES deep cut so theyve got the three earrings in their right ear bc they wanna be like shiver and frye. on deep cut, they love splatfests and all the music n fun stuff that comes with it. theyre weirdly not too competitive when it comes to defending their team, BUT they will go extra feral during splatfest turf wars and go complete beast mode. they still dont have a main weapon? favours brushes but thats pippins thing so they should probably pick something else GDKGS

oh they have the worst adhd brain. if they see something cool happening in the bg of a stage they will just straight up stop in their tracks and watch for a while, completely oblivious to whatever is happening in the match. and of course the moment they hear the tacticooler they will run for it even if theyre literally in the opposite end of the stage.... stupid. favourite stage is yet to be decided, gotta let the game marinate for a while longer

as the new agent 3 lori is pretty good at following orders, they just kinda... die in the dumbest possible ways. trying to jump through walls, walking straight off ledges, accidentally attracting attention to themself by throwing lil buddy right next to them. but theyre pretty good at fighting! also they like annoying the captain, because of course (this doesnt bode well for kiwi)

id like to build more on their character eventually but that requires me playing more splat3 and ive been rly unmotivated to do so >:/ ive barely played any salmon run and still havent touched table turf. augh. lori u will grow as a person i promise

now PIPPIN! (she/they) theyre my kid from octo expansion! shes very silly but surprisingly strong and skilled. never asked for help from OTH and went through every single test multiple times to get every weapon ticked (hell). also enjoys fighting inner agent 3 because ??? clearly a lot more competent than theyre letting on.

so once pip came to the surface they were very much like "id rather NOT do the whole fighting thing again" and jumped into turf wars with the intention of just having fun and messing with people. her gear set is 100% QSJ cuz she likes annoying the enemy team and then jumping away like a coward when theyre cornered (it jumpscares people bc they dont expect an octo to jump THAT fast).

she uses brush so that they can draw love hearts in enemy base :] they think its very cute and gets sad when ppl ink over it. also if an enemy tries to initiate a party they will always join bc make love not war etc. always goes for the highest inkage (highest score excluding win points was over 2000) favourite stage is inkblot art academy!

zero sense of fashion btw they either wear the QSJ gear or whatever they think will make her look hot (big fan of the octoling armour and marinas crop top). sometimes changes gender to Boy bc why the hell not, gender is arbitrary.

when grouped up with the others, they like teaming up with pigeon to cause chaos and havoc. shes very excited to see lori joining the team cuz theyre equally as insane as the other two! kiwi is the only one carrying a braincell here rip

PIGEON time!! (also she/they) technically my first oc because splatoon 2 was my first game! so she definitely has the most going for them. foil flingza main (my beloved), absolutely a frontliner and goes for the kill as much as possible. very good at sneak attacks! main gear is almost entirely special charge up (sorry. im the og missile spammer) except for ninja squid which they use to scare the shit outta ppl.

pigeon adores the birds u see hanging out on various stages, especially the pigeons (naturally). favourite stage is moray towers! i never said we had good taste. moray is excellent for roller users and allows for fast clean base inking >:]

like the others they love a good squid party but isnt always in the mood, HOWEVER she will never splat an innocent partier bc thats a dick move. if theyre not a threat, theres no need to splat.

outside of turf, pigeon is actually not a very violent person. very sweet to their friends and oh so very lesbian. she sees a pretty girl in the square and goes 😳 (btw this DOES work in battle, be a cute girl and they will be distracted). fucking absolutely obsessed with squid beatz like you have no idea, aims to get gold on every hard mode song. favourite songs to play are frantic aspic, shark bytes, and entropical. she and pippin love playing games like this together, i bet theyd be great dance duo.

in hero mode, pigeon is naturally a completionist and obtained every weapon. fucking loves harassing marie and annoying her as much as possible. adores callie so much <3 their best speedrun time is 40 sec on octo samurai (sadly cant reach the world record of 39)

unlike pippin they actually have a pretty good fashion sense, always coordinating their outfits and ink colour to match. a very stylish squid!

now kiwi is an interesting one. i first played splatoon 1 in beginning of 2018, so sadly i missed out on the splatfests. still got plenty of turf in and played hero mode repeatedly bc i have brainrot!

so kiwi (again. she/they) is really into amiibo challenges, especially the kraken challenge. being a kraken for that long makes em feel powerful, and its lotsa fun. they actually spend far more time on hero missions than anything else, they enjoy turf on the occasion but find it weirdly intimidating (favourite stage is flounder heights!). she feels most at home in the valley, with craig and the squid sisters. theyre far too sympathetic toward octolings (unlike pigeon who just goes fucking ham) and tries her best to just avoid fighting them entirely. because of this, shes pretty good at stealth missions, especially since she rarely makes much noise anyway. theyre definitely the most low-key out of the four agents.

SO!! why do i name them all after birds? because.... i like birds :D yes im a wannabe ornithologist and birds are my main special interest. i also mainly name them after aus/nz birds cuz im just Like That. we have cool birds in australia, and lorikeet was just far too fitting to pass up. (btw pippin is short for peregrine falcon)

despite being so skilled in hero mode missions they do actually get hurt a lot and almost always has some kind of bandaid or gauze on her body from various injuries. is it a lack of skill, or just recklessness? hmmm (its definitely just because she doesnt take enough care of their body lol).

if kiwi were to be captain in splatoon 3, theyd definitely be just constantly scruffing new 3 by the collar to stop them from doing something stupid. is very afraid of a new idiot joining the gang, as if pip n pidge werent bad enough. all 4 as a splatfest team would definitely be the most chaotic thing possible.

also theyre this way because when i draw squirds (tagged on my blog as "wings au") i think its fun to see how different they all look! kiwi would certainly be more fitting as a bird of prey but i think they look so silly with the stubby wings so im not changing my mind. this does mean shes real fast at running! pip and lori are the fastest flyers, pigeon is just kinda in between rip

final note, theyre all at LEAST 18 just so that its not weird. they all use she/they except lori, whos exclusively they/them. they all fucking hate ranked but love hero missions. also all of them have 1 braincell bouncing between them (mainly held by kiwi)

btw not that anyone asked but my actual thoughts on the fuller direct are that. It was okay. New Fire Emblem isn’t necesasrily for me but that’s a new mainline entry in one of Nintendo’s 1st party franchises after quite a few years without one, so that’s very good. Pikmin 4 announcement is likewise good for the same reasons, although they had a lot less to show off compared to with Fire Emblem and the segment as a whole dragged as Miyamoto told us about how to play Pikmin Bloom. The Splatoon 3 splatfest announcement was also a good one to slip into this direct considering the game just launched and all. And I’m naturally very happy with the little shout Xenoblade 3 got - hype new reveal and confirmations there while being short enough to not waste time for anyone else who’s not as invested. I think past this point the Direct is still majority pretty cool stuff but definitely struggled with having way too much Squenix stuff and farming games, like a genuinely overwhelming amount lol. I think they also really dragged out the ending - we get a commentated montage of more games, it pauses to announce a Kirby game getting a Deluxe release, and then we get another quick montage of some more games just for the hell of it, and it’s like, please move onto Zelda now lol. And while I shat myself immediately with excitement on the direct ending with Zelda I definitely think they could’ve done more. We did get new footage and new content but it hardly feels like we’ve actually learned anything significant in that new trailer - fuck even the broken Master Sword teaser the last time the game got shown off feels like more. However however. We finally got a title. Tears of the Kingdom. Getting a title finally, as well as even a release date, is definitely very much a good thing and I’m glad we got there. I do still think the trailer itself could’ve done more, but I’m not gonna sit there and pretend I wasn’t excited.

So yeah I mean pretty much decent all around. Good first party announcements, too many Squenix and farming games, Zelda trailer needed more but we finally got a name at least. Neato.

So!!! I am excited to announce that I’ll be hosting my own personal Splatfest! It’ll be Team Neo (left) vs. Team Vincent! (right) So! Will you pick the cute and adorably strong Neo? OR the strategic and cool Vincent? Sooooo....pretty much how I got this idea was...I was thinking of squad names for my squid babies, and the Squad name for Vincent/Neo’s team is ‘Rockie Icing’ The reason why it’s split between Vincent and Neo is because I honestly can’t pick a leader for Rockie Icing, and since I’m so extra and didn’t wanna do a boring coin toss lmao. My friends and I are still deciding on a date to host the splatfest on, were everyone can be free and open to play! I’ll be sure to update as soon as possible! @multiprism and I worked on the Splatfest art together! We’ll be hosting most chats and calls on discord! A Dummy Guide to Splatoon 2 for Hoe: How to Utilize Re-rolls & Add Abilities

(Welcome to my simple guide, dedicated to a friend who is trying to make sense of gears but doesn’t have enough time to explore coz he’s a dad of 3 children. In my attempts to find a suitable guide for him to make sense of gears and whatnots, I found most guides to have only covered only the basics and nothing in-depth for re-rolls and ability chunks, so this guide attempts to give tips to the finer ways of utilising re-rolling and add abilities. Enjoy!)

But before that, learn some theory:

a) Gear Basics - Things You Should Know!

Every gear has 1 primary ability and 1~3 secondary abilities (for the sake of this guide, let’s just call primary main and secondary sub). You can increase slots on gears that have lesser than 3 sub abilities slot at a cost of 1 super sea snail.

Every gear has a brand. You can check brand that by pressing ZR when inspecting an equip in your menu or in shop.

Most brands have an effect on abilities that are assigned to empty sub slots. For example, Forge has a higher chance of getting Special Power Up ability, but less likely to get Ink Saver (Sub). Just refer to the full list HERE.

There are some unique abilities that are main-only and can’t be found as a sub, these abilities could only be found in specific clothing article. For example, your Ninja Squid is only found as a main ability in clothing, and you won’t be able/need to farm for Ninja Squid chunks or roll for their sub! You can read more about this HERE.

“Leaf and Furi has such nice ability-matching gears! How do they get them?”

Simple, you need to understand some stuff on...

b) Ability Chunks

Ability Chunks is a currency that allows you to add sub abilities to your gear.

The menu on the screenshot can be accessed via pressing X > Status Tab > Ability.

You gain chunks from Salmon Run rewards (green capsule) or scrubbing/re-rolling gear abilities.

To add a sub ability to gear, talk to Murch > Use Ability Chunks

So, say you want to make a gear with 3 same abilities (ie. x3 Swim Speed Up), it will cost a total of 60 chunks to do so (10 chunks for the first add, 20 for the second, 30 for last).

However, the cost only increases if you slot in the same chunks. So, say if you slot in x1 Swim Speed Up, x1 Main Saver and x1 Special Power Up, it only cost 10 chunks per aforementioned skill.

“omg so headache, so stress, where got time to farm 60 chunks o”

That is when, my friend, you utilize the Re-Roll function.

c) What is Re-roll?

Reroll is one of the service that Murch provides you, it’s the second option btw. In order to re-roll, your gear must have 3 sub abilities unlocked.

d) What is the difference between Re-rolling and Scrub Slots?

Scrub Slots cost 20,000 gold (2,000 for Splatfest Tee). As the name implies, it scrubs off any sub abilities and turn them into chunks that you can re-use.

Re-rolling cost ONE super sea snails. Re-rolling a gear will randomise the current sub you have on your gear while turning your previous abilities into chunk.

The main difference is scrubbing removes abilities and you have to farm from scratch, re-rolling retain abilities but gives you something random.

e) How to use Re-roll?

To do so, be sure to plan what you wanna put as your gear sub! Now, let’s combine what we know so far and take a look at what you have.

EXAMPLE: You want Special Power Up for your gear subs.

Ensure that the gear brand you want to re-roll for Special Power Up is anything BUT Takoroka, because Takoroka doesn’t favour Special Power Up. In fact, it would be beneficial if you’re using Forge coz said brand has a higher chance of rolling Special Power Up

If you want to use ability chunks, just re-roll a Forge gear until you get 60 Special Power Up chunks, then Add the chunks to your desired gear.

Alternatively, you can re-roll your desired gear and pray you get at least 1~2 Special Power Up, then Add the final one using only 30 chunks.

With the amount of shells you have, you can complete at least 2 gears!

f) An Economical Alternative - 30 chunks per skill to complete your set

There’s an economical way to complete your gears using only 30 chunks, however, you need to plan your gear abilities well.

The method only works if you want to add 3 different kind of sub abilities into your gear.

The drawback is... it doesn’t look as nice as a royal flush, and you’re stuck using the same set of clothing~ :P

EXAMPLE: You planned a set with x3 Run Speed Up, x3 Ink Recovery and x3 Main Saver.

Simply slot ONE of each of abilities to different parts of your gear (Head/Clothing/Shoes) instead of putting all making a gear with 3 same sub!

So, your gear would look something like...

HEAD: [main skill] Run Speed Up, Ink Recovery, Main Saver BODY: [main skill] Run Speed Up, Ink Recovery, Main Saver SHOE: [main skill] Run Speed Up, Ink Recovery, Main Saver

Easy, right? :D

g) Shortcut way to Level a Gear - omg no time to farm, how?

Slot in Ability Chunks that you know you won’t use to your Gear (ie. 10 Quick Super Jump chunks, 10 Bomb Defense, etc.).

Start re-rolling, yay!
