jewish culture is getting havdalah stuck in your head for days after shabbat
me with any prayer ever actually
like, my friend got the chanukah blessings stuck in their head for hours after we lit the candles (I called them in cause I love sharing culture)

havdalah
between wine-stained fire
and a trio of stars
cradled by a departing bride
my second soul takes flight
in a breath
of cinnamon
the scents are strong
sweet
soothing
yet no spice will compensate
for that void that is left by a richer sweetness
(six days to wait
for the bride's return)
(six days to wait
have seldom seemed longer)
is life worth death?
is love worth loss?
is the granting of an extra soul
worth the cost
of relinquishing it?
(Blessed are You
who distinguishes)

So technically you are permitted to do havdalah until Tuesday, so I think that in the western diaspora it makes perfect sense to do it on Sunday night, because that marks the true separation between the weekend and the week. I’m all for keeping the shabbat vibes running over until Sunday too, tbh.

hey, i have a quick question about havdalah candles if that’s alright? i wanna start doing havdalah, but my smoke alarm is crazy sensitive. do you know if there’s any kind of candle that makes less smoke? or is it possible to clean off the old soot from the wicks? im not like, referring to halakha here— i just wanna figure out how to care for these beautiful candles. tysm!!
The Halakha for a havdalah candle is that it has to be made of at least two wicks that burn in one flame. It can be made of two candles or matches held together so that the wicks touch, or, like traditional havdalah candles, a braided candle with multiple wicks. The candle also doesn't have to burn for that long, only as long as saying the blessings over the wine, the spices, and the fire last. In extenuating circumstances, an incandescent light bulb may be used for Havdalah, although it is preferable to use an actual flame.
When I make Havdalah for myself, it takes only about two minutes, and then I extinguish the flame with the grape juice (since I don't really drink wine). I've also personally found that my beeswax Havdalah candles produces very little smoke. I'm pretty sure this is the one I have, although I could be wrong. So maybe try and find a beeswax Havdalah candle!
And don't worry about cleaning the candles, I know they're beautiful and you don't want to ruin them, but they're meant to be used. The most beautiful thing you can do with a Havdalah candle is to use it for a Mitzvah.

Nothing shuts down the “nobody wants me here/nobody notices me” brainweasels quite like being handed the Havdalah candle.
