The ending song of oblivion battery tells us all we need to know about kei and haruka's past- they started baseball together for fun, haruka was very very good, everyone tried to give him their input in to how to be better, he's like 'yeah it's fun and yeah I'm good but I only want to do it if I play with Kei', and kei's like 'hell yeah let's play together!' But he sees how much better haruka is and that he genuinely has a future in this sport, so he pushes himself to meet haruka's level over and over, he compensates for their difference in innate skill with his observations and strategies to the point that their future's are woven together just like haruka always wanted-
And then kei gets amensia
And all of that is gone
But haruka still wants to be at kei's side

Boukyaku Battery on April 10! I've read the manga before but I cannot remember a single thing about the story. I stopped reading midway, I think around chapter 14-16. I was still excited when I saw the anime adaptation announcement even though I cannot remember the story 🧍‍♀️
I still remember Kei being so cute and a good baseball player but, IS HE REALLY THIS SMALL?!?!

I get more and more invested with every new episode of oblivion battery. Like, what do you mean Kokuto made a promise to face Haruka and Kei at the big tournament, that he would catch up and surpass them while on STAIRS? What in the haikyuu bullshit is this??

Oblivion Baseball Episode 8 Review - Center Fielder
This show is back after a one week break and now a new character joins the Kotesashi Baseball club because the team needs a center fielder. Kazuki Tsuchiya is an otaku who likes playing baseball games, but had a bad experience in a baseball team that he is not keen on the idea of joining the team despite having the talent for it.

This episode is was so funny. I think it’s the funniest one by far for me because I was chuckling through many of the jokes and I didn’t find Kei annoying! This is a good culmination of the group’s dynamic and the role each member play other than their respective baseball positions. Haruka is the himbo. Aoi is the angry one. Shunpei is the smartass. Kei is the dumb comic relief. Yamada is the voice of reason. I think that Kazuki will fit right into the group’s dynamic as the nice, shy guy in the midst of these crazy baseball people.
Kazuki is an otaku, but he’s also the type who gives up a bit easily. Like how he ran away from the baseball team back in middle school after experiencing a hard time with a team that relies too much on hierarchy, he’s traumatized by anything related to 3D baseball, but still loves the sport as he plays 2D baseball games. It was actually cool seeing what he could do. He can even outrun Shunpei, who’s known for his speed. I really liked the part where he discovers his talent for jump catches. This would definitely be helpful for matches if someone were to hit a ball towards the outfield. I also like the gag of Kei bringing Kazuki to the team and being proud of finding a center fielder because he didn’t want to be caught slacking off.
He’s voiced by Yoshitaka Yamaya. While he is a voice actor I’m not too familiar with, I still know some of his past roles. He is the voice actor of Iori Hida (Cody in the English dub) of Digimon Adventure 02 sequel films, notably in Kizuna and The Beginning. His voice being soft but high-toned does fit his shy nature in a way. I also think that this is a nice way to give the voice actor some exposure too.
I also like that despite this being a Kazuki-centric episode, there’s also tension between Aoi and Kei as Kei is having tantrums over the harsh training and Aoi keeps being harsh towards him. While Aoi doesn’t hate Kei, it’s more of a motivated vs unmotivated conflict between the two that eventually gets resolved at the end. There’s also tension between Aoi and Shunpei who don’t see eye-to-eye when it comes to training. They have a brains and brawn type of dynamic with Shunpei being a more calculative person while Aoi is just an angry jock.
Now that Kazuki is officially on the team, I wonder what will happen next. The opening took out Kokuto and put in two new characters that I’m not too familiar with. Are they the next opponents for the group? There’s also a post-credit scene where it seemed to have been from the past as Kei was talking to Haruka in a calm manner that’s different from his current self. He says something rather ominous to him and it could be a factor to why Kei lost his memories. What are your thoughts on this episode?
