Happy Birthday KUROKO TETSUYA [01.31]

Taiga loves three things in life: basketball, food, and you.

He smiles – simple twist of his pink lips – when he gets a whiff of your perfume in the morning when you get ready for the day. His eyes soften in the subtle light of the moon, when you laugh at his stupid joke. And his heart skips a bit when he sees you in his kitchen first thing in the morning, in nothing but that old white t-shirt of his, cooking a whole meal.

"Oh! Look who's up?" You chuckle.

He's silent, overwhelmed, in love.

"You're cooking today?"

You hum, flipping the pan. He doesn't know what to do. He never does. Taiga isn't used to be taken care of, so Taiga isn't used to you. Yet, you're determined to never stop, not as long as you breathe and love, taking care of him. It's not an effort, not at all. It's your nature.

After long seconds of standing there without a thought of what to do, he finally moves. You notice him in the corner of your eyes; yet, it still surprises you when he wraps his arms around you, leaving a peck on your cheek.

"You don't have to do this."

"Be a good boy and eat."

He sighs – not in discontentment, on the contrary. Taiga's soul is at peace when you're in his arms. That's why he doesn't want to let you go, despite the fact that you need to pour the hot water from the kettle in your cups. No, you're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Not that you want to, anyways. It doesn't matter if the eggs are burning, if Taiga wants you in his arms till they fall out, so be it.

Part 1

When @vespersposts put together an event [𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝐵𝑢𝑚𝑝𝑠 ✘] with the theme "How I met you", I really wanted to participate but couldn't think of anything at first... I write canonverse longfic, so my ships can't actually have a second first meeting... except, a couple of them did! I remembered my convoluted fairytale fic, which is a fantasy AU within my canonverse longfic, because it's just a dream. So, I decided to draw KagaKuro's first meeting from that fairytale fic, as a comic.

I'm not completely happy with how I drew this. My drawing is still (always) so inconsistent, and I had too long breaks between drawing, so I made mistakes like forgetting where exactly my angle on the characters had been and for some reason being too stupid to check... but oh well, it's readable. And I do like the atmosphere.

I'll try to introduce this briefly and make some sense of it.

I drew this because it almost works out of context. You can read it as a standalone, I think, you just won't see the full extent of everything, where things came from and where they're going. I think what you need to know is that the idea of this story is reinterpreting/reliving your past, but it's not just "I dropped these characters back into a metaphorical dream version of the past", because it's also important that it isn't really the past. It's the present under the mask of some past events. The years aren't undone just because the characters momentarily don't remember who they are. That's why the past events are not a direct translation into a fantasy AU, it's slightly more complicated. The sense of "this is actually just a character meditating in the present(=third year of high school)" is kind of crucial to the story, even though no one in the dream knows it's a dream. It's about trying to make sense of what you missed. Things that you thought you knew, mistakes you thought had already been understood to their fullest extent, but weren't. In other words, everything that has happened after the events that are referenced in this comic, still affect the characters' decisions and what they say.

So, when the characters seem a bit off, or you can't see where they are coming from, it's probably because you missed about 800 000 words of character development. (Unless you've read my TOTverse of course.)

Okay, I definitely don't deserve praise for putting that simply and concisely.

I guess the elephant in the room is that in this dream fic there's a genderbent version of Kuroko, but it would be way too complicated to get into the narrative and meta reasons why that is relevant in this dream, without explaining the whole story, so, you're just going to have to take it at face value.

“Hey, sleepyhead wake up.”

Daiki does so with a groan and harshly nudges whoever’s whispering in his ear, sleepily smirking when he hears an oof and a pained yelp.

“You little shit, get up!”

“Fuck off.” Frowning at the god awful volume of Taiga’s voice, Daiki burrows deeper under the covers, only to growl as they’re yanked off of him, the unwelcoming cold, chilling his skin and making him curl into himself with a hiss. “What the hell Taiga!”

“Get over it. You knew we were gonna have an early day today so shut up and eat your breakfast before it gets cold.”

At the mention of breakfast, a sweet, savory smell fills the air and Daiki instantly perks and sits up, crankiness and tiredness gone.

A shirtless Taiga hovers over him with an annoyed look on his face, a tray of blueberry pancakes and bacon in one hand, a glass of what looks like homemade banana milk in the other. Daiki gapes at him for a couple seconds and then makes grabby hands cause fucking food.

Chuckling at his boyfriend’s antics, Taiga hands him the tray and the bluenette instantly digs in, his mouth quickly overridden with runny butter, warm fluffy pancake, tart blueberry and oh so sweet sugary syrup. Jesus fucking Christ, he must be in heaven.

Taiga watches on with a soft look in his eyes and sits close to him on the bed, a hand going to his shaggy, blue strands, ruffling them up a little bit with a sort of tenderness reserved only for the bluenette.

“Happy birthday, baby.”

He kisses his cheek and Daiki hums appreciatively, the sound delving into a moan as he shovels another bite into his mouth. It’s so fucking good and he makes it a point to tell the redhead, partially aware of a dribble of syrup running haphazardly down his chin.

“Yeah, you said the same thing last night.” There’s a hungry glint in Taiga’s eyes as he studies him, but his actions are gentle as he clears the syrup away with his thumb.

“Idiot, I did not.” Daiki rolls his eyes, swallows and shovels more in as the other scoffs and lightly caresses his cheekbone.

“Don’t put yourself on a high pedestal. You and these fucking pancakes are on two completely different levels.”

“Wanna bet?”

His eyes snap up to meet Taiga’s, heat licking his groin at the look in his boyfriend’s eyes. Dark and filled with lust, it prompts the bluenette to set his tray aside and grab the redhead by the hem of his shorts, his own boxers starting to feel tight.

“Only if you’re my birthday present,” he licks his lips and groans as Taiga pushes him back on the bed with a smirk.

“It’s funny,” he teases, looming over him. “If you assume you’re the one doing the opening.”
