31 Days of Horror | 7/31: Suspiria (2018)
"Patricia wrote about "Three Mothers" lost to time, predating all Christian invention. Pre-God, pre-devil. Mother Tenebrarum, Mother Lachrymarum and Mother Suspiriorum. Darkness, tears, and sighs."

Brvtalist Theater - "Begotten" (1990)
Happy Halloween Week everyone! On this edition of Brvtalist Theater we are screening perhaps one of the most brvtal films ever made - E Elias Merhige's experimental horror film, "Begotten". With no dialogue and essentially no soundtrack (except the crickets and sound effects), Begotten shocked underground audiences upon its release and continues to do so to this day. The story is a gloriously brvtal re-telling of Genesis creationism and the film is filled with harsh images of suffering and pain. Merhige would go on to be know to mainstream audiences for his work on "Shadow of the Vampire" and "Suspect Zero" but "Begotten remains a tour de force of film making. Experimental, conceptual and horrific, "Begotten" is perhaps the perfect pick to set the tone for All Hallow's Eve.

31 Days of Horror | 2/31: The Invisible Man (2020)
"One night, I was sitting, and I was thinking about how to leave Adrian. I was planning the whole thing in my mind. And he was staring at me, studying me. And without me saying a single word, he said that I could never leave him. That wherever I went, he would find me. That he would walk right up to me, and I wouldn't be able to see him, but that he would leave me a sign. So that I would know he was there."

"Why? Why? You hear that Stu, I think she wants a motive. I don't really believe in motive, Sid. I mean, did Norman Bates have a motive? Did they ever really decide why Hannibal Lector liked to eat people? Don't think so! See, it's a lot scarier when there's no motive, Sid."

31 Days of Horror | 8/31: Sinister (2012)
"I was compiling all the cases in chronological order and I've figured out the connection. The dates. Each family who murdered lived in one of the houses where the previous murders took place. And when you look back you can actually draw a line from murder to murder. We knew that the Stephenson's lived in the same house where the Millers took place. But I found out that the Millers previously lived in the house where the DeLuzio lawn massacre occurred."

31 Days of Horror | 12/31: Doctor Sleep (2019)
"We never wanted to see snow again. So we lived in Florida. Tiny place, but it was comfortable and we were happy. I mean, we were grieving… We were traumatized. But there was happiness, too. But she… She would look away. She'd look at me, but she would always look away after a second or two. It took me a while to notice it, but after the Overlook, she wouldn't look me in the eyes, not for long. Couldn't figure it out. But it… It was you. She saw your eyes in me, and she'd have to look away."

31 Days of Horror | 5/31: The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
"It's different in every culture. And it has changed over the years, but it has always required youth. There must be at least five. The whore, she's corrupted...she dies first. The athlete. The scholar. The fool. All suffer and die at the hands of whatever horror they raised. Leaving the last to live or die, as fate decides...the virgin."

"Did you know a young boy drowned the year before those two others were killed? The counselors weren't paying any attention… They were making love while that young boy drowned. His name was Jason. I was working the day that it happened. Preparing meals… here. I was the cook. Jason should've been watched. Every minute. He was… he wasn't a very good swimmer."

"Three cases. I couldn't explain three cases that haunt me still. Now you go and investigate if you dare and come back and tell me that I am wrong because I've come to one inescapable conclusion and that is the supernatural. The unseen forces that surround us. Everything that you and I spent a lifetime trying to debunk and disprove, it's all true."

“Well…how do you think you know that person you were a second ago is the same person you are now? A continuous stream of memories. Given only that, we all create illusions within ourselves, saying that we each have only one fixed persona.”
