BRACKET REVEAL

Alright. At long last, I present to you the bracket...or should I say...*BRACKETS* for the Virtual Character Tournament!

Given the scale, the first round is going to be one bracket per week, 4 a day, with each lasting 24 hours. I know that this is still tight, but given how many contestants there are, along with the necessary inclusions of images and propaganda (oh and I guess also my job), it's what I can do to keep this semi-manageable. There's also no redemption round this time. It's gonna be a single elimination tournament. Be kind to your peers. This is not but a drop in the infinite ocean of the internet.

...oh yeah the brackets themselves. We'll be going in order over the course of 4 weeks. I'll make proper announcements for them as they commence. Given how many there are and what I want to get done beforehand, Bracket 1 will likely begin some time this week. But for the matchups...

Episode 99.

Bohman uses Master Storm Access to get Chimera Hydradrive Dragrid. Alteration Hydradrive is not LIGHT Attribute, but with Bohman's card it is treated as LIGHT for this card's Summon.

With this, we finally our LINK-5 card in VRAINS, though OCG had the unplayable Tournament Prizes before this episode.

As others noted, Bohman's desire to absorb everything is based off Number 96's goal in ZEXAL II, though this specific manner is intended to be more Sephiroth-esque (from the original FF7, not compilation stuff/remake).

Now we are at the final Duel, it is time note that Bohman is an improper romanization of Bowman, which is a reference to David Bowman 2001: A Space Odyssey, who becomes an ascended Star Child at the end of the movie/novel. Haru is an improper romanization of Hal, referencing HAL 9000 from the same movie. In the sequel of the novel, HAL 9000 also becomes a non-corporeal entity inside Bowman's monolith, becoming his companion (presumably for all eternity).

Yugioh VRAINS episode 85 Review

I feel like Haru was wasted potential. Then again, Lightning doesn’t really think much of him. It’s still sad how he died without showing much. I guess his character was just him being Bohman’s handler, but he realized that he did like being his brother in the end.

Blue Maiden changed her deck! Marincess seems a bit similar to Trickstars where they rely heavily on effect damage. Though, I feel like unlike Trickstars, they’re more attack-oriented, something Trickstars lack.

I’m glad BM got a win. Will Bohman go after her now to avenge his death?

I’m anticipating Lightning vs Specter. I want to see the duel between the Ignis who subjugated his Origin and the Origin who lost his Ignis.

Thoughts on the scene between Bohman and Haru

I got this question from user @maindeckdeathtoymonsters. Most of the time I've been trying to figure out how to make a post as an answer. Unfortunately, I didn't understand. I'm still not very good at using tumbler.

They're very sketchy, but I'll try to answer it.

The first thing I remember is Aoi at the beginning of Vrains and her relationship with Akira.

Aoi-Akira and Hal-Bowman have a completely different background and will be a different outcome, but for now their interactions are somewhat similar. Maybe I was thinking about it because of the duel that's coming between Aoi and Hal.

«I'll do it for you, big brother.»

In fact, I have this parallel without a clear wording, it's just that it exists.

Another observation more characterizes the Lightning. Interestingly, despising humanity, he makes his higher AI more and more like a human.

Compare Bowman at the first appearance

With the way he looks now

Dr. Kogami made Ignis very different from humans, while the "descendants" of Lightning have quite human appearance.And even the highest stage of evolution of Ignis in his view is Bowman, who has a large range of human feelings and emotions in contrast to Hal.

And here we come to the topic of the post.

Hal could be a kind of philosophical zombie among AI.

p-zombie in the philosophy of mind and perception is a hypothetical being that from the outside is indistinguishable from a normal human being but lacks conscious experience, qualia, or sentience.[1] For example, if a philosophical zombie was poked with a sharp object it would not feel any pain sensation, yet could behave exactly as if it does feel pain (it may say "ouch", recoil from the stimulus, and say that it is feeling pain).

That would be interesting in some way, but unlikely.

However, this scene shows us that Hal has feelings. Including affection for Bowman.

Bowman says: I feel you as my younger brother.

Hal responds: I don't understand your feelings.

This is a very sincere and human answer.

And then he continues:

In addition, he wants to understand Bowman, partly because of this, he agrees to merge with him.

And Bowman accepts this because Hal and Lighting are so eager, but by his behavior, that he would rather stay with his "little brother," to whom he feels a real affection.

Do not forget that it used personality Yusaku, who was unable to sacrifice Akira and that all the forces trying to protect other people, even if they interfere with his goals. If Yusaku is formed an attachment to someone, it is not so easy to break, even if the object is an enemy, and recently exposed the lives of many people and the Yusaku mortal danger. In General, Hal will certainly be a weak point and the main value of Bowman.

On the other hand, Hal looks a little… unhappy and his smile sad. This fusion with a successful outcome will deprive him of identity, self-consciousness. Of course this causes internal protest.

The post still came out kind of chaotic, sorry. I still don't have any theories about them. Unless I'm sure that sooner or later they will move to the other side in this war.

I was so confused for a moment because cause that is one hell of a crossover and character choices. Then I realized they were probably not meaning the Arc V and VRAINS characters but characters from Free! (assuming the fandom shortens Haruka to Haru)

Plot bunny (inspired by a line from one of @darkzorua100‘s fics) that I gotta jot down and want to write but have, no idea where to go with it really.

SOL Tech finally figures out Playmaker’s identity and the next time Yusaku logs in his account is hit by a devastating virus that keeps him from logging out the next time he tries to do just that (also it probably hurts like a bitch) which basically renders Yusaku comatose in the real world.

Cause if he can’t log out he can’t escape and it makes getting the Ignis easier. Also SOL Tech is just shitty that way.

Other things that would probably happen-

-Aoi notices that Yusaku has stopped coming to school and the new kid Takeru seems really distracted (he insists Yusaku is just sick but she doesn’t buy it).

-Kusanagi bites the bullet when he can’t help Yusaku (his computers start going haywire with ‘virus alert’) and he sends out a request for Ghost Girl’s help(when GG sees the email that starts ‘From Daddy Long Legs’ the contents are not what she’s expecting)

-GG confronting Akira like ‘do you know what your company has done?? He does not, it was someone else who figure out who Playmaker was and took the info straight to the bossess. Akira is horrified cause oh god they did WHAT to a kid??

-Aoi maybe learns about this and on her own puts the pieces together and figures out that Yusaku=Playmaker

-I wanna include Rev somehow to, cause he too would be horrified to find out what SOL Tech has done. Again. Idk, maybe he lends Yusaku a place within the virtual space to lay low so he can rest and take a break from the bounty hunters on his tail(the KoH gotta have a base somewhere after all)

-Ai is helpless to help Yusaku, he tries to get through the program but it only made him sick

-GO is, probably still their willing lap dog, though he is kinda sus about Playmaker never logging out. And BA coming to his aid(esp once she pieces things together). Also BS is still on PM’s tail which is, a problem. The poor guy can barely rest.
