Two idiots, alike in dignity and love and... very low emotional intelligence when it comes to each other.

Just look at them. Just look at these tiny idiots. They're both so in love but they don't know how to stop hurting each other by making the first move because they're waiting for the other person to do it.

Two men afraid of being alone but also afraid of being the one to reach out, afraid that reaching out will make them the one that was wrong and not wronged and that they will hurt more for forgiving...

Idiots took their sweet time but at least having mutual breakdowns in the park let them finally talk. Though I do, frankly, think Johnny was having more issues than Hai Yi... they're both idiots but at least now they're each other's idiots.

Abandonment issues my beloved. Hai Yi is so desperate for connections, for affection, for attention, for anything, because he has gotten so little in his life that he still clings the memory of a stranger from his childhood who showed him light and kindness. He has never had a memory to support that one, never had someone's kindness or love outweigh that single moment and now he has him again, now he has him as his side and he's going to keep him because this is what love means to him.

This moment destroyed me entirely because it was about Hai Yi trying to show Johnny Dai his love and the life he wanted them to have and trying to introduce him to these concepts and the way he described the wine, the wine of love, the way he clinked the glasses together alone and sad and abandoned again and again, always left alone in the end, so often in the dark, always watching them walk away or knowing he isn't good enough for whatever they're asking of him because that's just how they see him.

Broke my heart because Hai Yi was trying so, so hard but he's just not speaking the language of the person he wants to say he loves. He's saying something completely different to him than he means to say.

I mean, just look at this face when he sees the wine. This is not a man hearing 'wine of love' and 'this is our celebration'.... this is a man picturing a price tag and nothing else. And that's a realization that Hai Yi doesn't know how to process either.

It's the way Hai Yi is such a mixture of insecure and desperate for affection but also a little full of himself and filled to the brim with fake self-confidence that he pushes constantly because he can't stand the side of himself that needs this connection, the side of himself that's been holding it's breath for love and affection since he was a child and was saved in the darkness by a young man.
