Do any of your OCs hunt/fish/trap? Who taught them, and why do they do it? Do they have preferred gear or quarry?

#question brought to you by hunting coming up in all my classes simultaneously and bringing it back to mind #fishing is in here bc it ends up in these irl convos but I suppose it does feel like a gimme after gw2 added it #(and it's popularity as a minigame in many games as well)#but here I'll go first. my ex mordrem Merlin fur-traps in the shiverpeaks for income #he'll eat the meat of what he catches and splits w/ his nightmare hound (do u think fern/nm hounds can swallow bird bones? much 2 think abt #less wasteful and lessens what he has to pack when camping out in remote places for long periods of time #he was a deadshot with a bow as a young sprout but mordremoth got him early and uh. well that bow ended up integrating with his arm #which is why he's missing his right :) that's a story in and of itself though #but yeah so no bow-hunting or any marksmanship really #though he can throw an axe pretty well if needed #alright I have others but it's bedtime and this is a tag novella already #gw2 #<- will it even find its way into the tag? who can say LOL anyways gnite! or good morning!

Building a Pride Flag.....2!

Hello again! After how well last years went, I wanted to come back and make another flag! This year i'll be using the Progressive Flag (thank you to everyone who voted in my poll to decide!)

If I get too many characters for this layout to work, I will be altering it so the side stripes are on the top and bottom instead!

So! Here is where you come in! I'm hoping to make this flag out of all of your excellent characters!

Simply reblog whichever colour post you think they fit best with and add on a picture for me! It's as simple as that! You're absolutely welcome to send me many characters, in fact I would love it if you did! Last year I collected 170 characters, and i'd love to get even more this year. If you submitted characters last year and would like me to use them again, let me know! I can easily access the screens from last year!

I'll be running this until the end of June! I will make multiple posts when the cutoff point is getting near!

When sending screens, please make sure I can see your characters properly!

Too far away means I can't really show off your character!

(this is a glitch screen but it gets the point across) If i added Opehlia onto the flag like this, she'd either be very small or I might have to stretch her.

Close up shots can work, but that's mostly up to you! If you wanna just show off your characters face, that's perfectly fine!

Absolutely take screens using emotes and skills! They're a lot of fun to work with and can really show off your characters!

Damai using a skill vs Alvida from the character select screen, I would use either screen happily but the motion shot shows off Damai a little better!

I will do my absolute best to get your back pieces and weapons in!

If your computer can handle it, higher graphics is nice to work with. Again, this is all about showing off your characters and higher graphics help with that.

PLEASE DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU CAN'T TAKE PART IF YOUR COMPUTER CAN'T HANDLE HIGHER GRAPHICS! I WILL STILL INCLUDE YOUR CHARACTERS!

A background that contrasts your character will make my job a lot easier when I am cutting them out to put them on the flag.

This makes for a very easy edit! I will still happily work with any screens I am given!

If you want to edit your screens or send screens you have previously edited, you are welcome to! Especially if you want to add features that you can't have in game.

okay really niche OC chat prompt today but. you know that common trope where a character is transported into an illusory world that shallowly fulfills all their wishes/removes all current conflicts ("oh my god, i'm back home in my warm bed, none of the horrible Plot Events actually happened, my dead loved one is alive and says 'what are you talking about, silly? are you feeling okay? i made breakfast! ^^'", etc), usually as a way to delay them from finding + defeating whoever is making the illusion or whatever

say your commander (or anyone) gets trapped in one of those. how long does it take them to figure out something's wrong (alternately if u have multiple ocs u wanna answer for, rank them from "immediately sniffs it out" to "would blissfully waste away there forever"). extra credit: what's everybody's insidious wish-fulfillment illusion world

Mharnii Bruster

Raised in the lap of luxury by a wealthy noble family in Divinity's Reach, Mharnii never had the opportunity to know much about the people she came from. Adopted when they were a baby, she has known little outside the human world, which is largely why they wind up in the position she does.

After all, a little asura in a human world is a novelty in that way of life. The constant scrutiny, being treated as an oddity or a novelty, truly did a number on them growing up, leaving her incredibly shy and terribly socially anxious.

All the more surprising when they manage to save the day during the Battle of Shaemoor, catching the attention of Captain Logan Thackeray.

The least likely person to become commander then finds herself commander, struggling to find their place in a frightening world, and learning the terrible truth to how she wound up raised by a family of devout human nobles int he first place...

Having not really enjoyed Secrets of the Obscure much throughout, I started to hone in on very specific things to be annoyed at in the last release. You know, the kind of things it would be absurd to single out in something you're enjoying but when you're not enjoying it everything rubs?

One of those things was kryptis interior design. Or just design in general really. It is, to me, a symptom of the story not being clear enough on what it wants to say.

Because, listen, I'm willing to accept as part of the story parameters that the kryptis look horrific to a human/mortal Tyrian eye but that's just what they look like, and we associate that with predatory nightmares because that's what they've been but there's no reason their appearance has to = evil. I think it's cheap from a writing point of view, but if developed well it could have been a good statement about learning to recognise "humanity" in something that looks inhuman rather than judging purely on looks.

But then I'm running around the castle of the Midnight King wondering, why does this look not only like a hellish red-toned flesh mess (coded as bad for sure, but again, appearances) but specifically like a Tyrian castle, with stonework and bookshelves and grand stairs, that's being encroached upon by the flesh mess in random growing patches? That's what we generally use to show corruption, an outside influence taking over a place. So is the flesh mess a corruption of a natural state, or is it the kryptis natural state that's not inherently evil? You could say it would look healthier if a more benevolent king took over - except that aesthetic is what the bodies, the land and all the other life in Nayos looks like. We have seen nothing to suggest any other form or kryptis life, and in fact have been asked to find sympathy for things that look like thorny nightmare flesh monsters but speak like scared peasants. And yet, the castle (or the temple) don't look like they were meant to be like they are - the tendrils and masses grow randomly over actual furnishings.

You can't have both, you know? And I feel like someone had some ideas here and implemented them without thinking through either the story implications or the visual language throughout. It has the vibe of a tv show needing a twist (maybe the kryptis aren't bad?) more than it wants to be coherent, and in an ongoing game story that's constantly expanding its world-building that's both disappointing and kind of a problem.

#problem because they can't really ignore this world-building now that they've done it #kryptis invasion events are mechanically necessary in the wider world and so must continue #the wizards exist and now every future story begs the question what are the wizards doing about this?#so the lack of coherent intention behind introducing either of those things into the world is troubling #Secrets of the Obscure #Guild Wars 2 #gw2
