Man we hadn't played s2 since it dropped in real time and I had forgotten how much of the early part was just indiscriminately slaughtering Inquest and the npcs dunking on them.
Of course, you can imagine how awkward that was for Vezz.

Vezz: [talks about the harrowing experience he had when he rampaged through Theta-9 and the trauma that still haunts him to this day]
Kudo, taking notes: I'm so sorry that happened to you, Vezz. Now what parts of the facility would you say are the most flammable, in your experience? Do you think this holds true for the others?

Like just generally speaking Vezz is such a deeply troubled person. From a tumultuous upbringing to his disastrous time in the Inquest (and violent departure from it) to being dragged into eventually becoming commander in a sort of sideways attempt to drag him out of the hole he'd dug for himself, he's haunted by every soul he ever took and every person he ever failed. And yet he persists, for the people who have loved him from the start and those who have come to love him later.
Living is painful, but the thought of hurting them is worse.

Thinking about Vezz right now and how a huge part of his story is that from the outside, people treat him a LOT like your typical inspiration porn. Oh, the commander is depressed and immensely traumatized but he has overcome all of it with the power of love and friendship! He's a hero; isn't that amazing?
And he just kind of smiles and tries not to push back too hard because people have made he and his friends such icons, such important figures, that to show weakness feels like it would make everything crack.
When he finally retires it's because he can't keep smiling. He can't keep holding his head up. He can't keep being that perfect icon. He has to stop, to quit, because his mental health is falling apart like leaves from a dead tree and he has no idea how to progress or keep making himself seem strong. He's not strong, he's never been strong. He's been a placeholder. Someone people can look to for inspiration while the very thing that inspires them is tearing him apart.
He's had some time, now, to start seeking help. He will honestly never be "better" in the true sense of the word because that's not really how mental health or CPTSD works. But he'll get to a place where he can live without waking up every hour with nightmares. He'll be able to go to the market without feeling like there's eyes on his back. The box will get bigger around his hurt. It'll never go away.
And in Tyria, he will always be the success story. Because they can't see past the mask.

MIST MERCH. TRADING - THE BLACK LION'S NEW CONTENDER?
Tumblr media
"FOR brilliant-minded individuals, BY brilliant-minded individuals."
Within the last recent months you may or may not have noticed the debut of a new, up-and-coming, self-proclaimed "rival" enterprise to the Black Lion Trading Company. But who is heading this new, mysterious mercantile? To the surprise of many, it's the renowned Ex-Councillor Phlunk of Divinity's Reach, former member of Rata Sum's own Arcane Council, and twin brother to the Councillor Phlunt, (still in office).
"No more blitzing your raptor to the nearest trading agent to receive your parcels -- now your items arrive directly on your doorstep for no extra charge!"
Following the Ex-Councillor's own success with his small wizardry services in Divinity's Reach, he believed it was high time to ascend to even greater heights.
"With the dragon crisis finally dealt with, the economy on the rise, and new trade deals arriving from Cantha, what better time for some new, improved organizations to dig their heels in against the longstanding oppression? It's time to break the monopoly. The Black Lion Trading Company is old news. Our trading company is a vision of a bright and golden tomorrow," Ex-Councillor Phlunk said confidently during an interview.
"What exactly will become of your 'wizardry' business now that you've started this new venture?" Asked Reporter Trekt.
"My business will remain active, although through select appointments by way of my apprentice, who will be handling the simpler affairs."
"Some have made claims that this new enterprise of yours is all just a far-reaching attempt to fund your own independent research in Divinity's Reach," said Reporter Trekt. "What's your response to these rumors?"
"All conjecture formed from envy," replied the Ex-Councillor, shaking his head. "My question is this: is it wrong to succeed? Is it wrong to rise beyond conceivable thought? Did our own Commander not vanquish the dragons by being better at it than everyone else? My enterprise was made by and for such brilliantly-minded individuals."
Further attempts at receiving a response to the aforementioned claims went unanswered.
(interview continued & concluded on pg. 8)
The newly established mercantile's routes and sources are currently unknown, but their lightning-fast deliveries and the unique quality of their goods speak for themselves. However, considering the Ex-Councillor's own proficiency with magic, could this indicate some form of sorcery being used?
Attempts at reaching Evon Gnashblade, head of the Black Lion Trading Company, to hear his opinion regarding the emergence of this new enterprise have had no luck.
Will this new Mist Merch. Trading stand the test of time in such a competitive arena? Or will the proud, black lion stamp yet another opponent under its heel?
It seems we'll all have to wait and see.
- excerpt by Journalist Rittz, writer for the Arch's Accounts.

Seeking some help from the community!
Does anyone have any good resources or references for antique leg prostheses, or fantasy prostheses? I want to design Vezz's leg prosthesis but I want something practical, since at this point he's retired, and the reference sheet I want to draw will be his current look (though I'll include both his original and post-Balth through Kralk prostheses as references on the image).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A character with the mentality, if I’m not dead I’m fine. They hold out under torture, go through extreme conditions like starvation and dehydration, and don’t shrink back from danger. Every time they feel themself getting scared they rebuke themself, sneering contemptuously at the fact that they would even think to act frail when they know better. Getting hurt is never a problem for them. It can’t ever be a problem for them because they have to.
Even if they do start to sniffle a little when they’re alone out in the cold, rocking while cradling a broken bone, knowing no one is coming to help them.

Out of sheer curiosity, I used the perma hairstyle kit to put Qirri in the hairstyle I had her in when I first made her, back when we only had the base hairstyles and no style kits or additional hair from expacs.
It went about as well as you'd expect.

...anyway I changed her back right after lmao.

Reflecting a bit on why I always seem to come back to this game and I can't stop thinking or drawing my GW2 characters even though it's been actual years and it's not just because I love my own characters and other peoples' characters, it's being surrounded by so many artists that get me fired up to keep drawing them to get better, and rpers that motivate me to think, write and develop them. Even when I go through periods where I don't want to play the Game Grind itself, I'm still thinking about my characters. It's kind of a long, slow burn hyperfixation of a sort but I can definitely attribute it to being exposed to so many fantastic creatives in this fandom.

"Please don't steal my wife."

Doodled up Qirri's older sister/Vezz's wife, @wall-legion's Rissia. The one of our original commander group you REALLY have to be scared of. And Vezz loves her for it.
Back of the dress is based on a dress I found googling art deco style dresses. Figured that suited an asura.

For the NPC game: the (previous and current) charr imperators!
Send Me an NPC and I'll Share My Thoughts
Ohhh this is an interesting one. Let's see.
Starting with Bangar and Crecia: Bangar is such a fascinating character. Absolutely love him as a character, great writing, etc etc, love bullying that old man and would gladly shove him into traffic if I knew him in person. Facist pos but man is he interestingly written. I think they did a really good job with him!
Crecia is such a weird character for me to click with, honestly; this is because my girl Agaue has almost exactly the same backstory as her, with the exception of two items: Cre had been born when her mother fled, and Agaue wasn't. And Cre went Blood where Agaue went Ash. So interacting with her made Agaue, who is vehemently anti-Flame Legion at this point in her life, want to tear out throats. I do think she's... interesting. Nothing about how she's written, really, but it's weird basically having the same character lmao. Some of the rawest lines in the game, though, lbr. The "I should've bled you out" line lives rent free in my head.
Next, Smodur! I'm a little unhappy with how he ended up, if I'm being honest! I really liked him early on, playing through the Iron Legion stuff on at least one of my charr, and he seemed level compared to the other characters he was surrounded by. The way he behaved in IBS though felt almost like character assassination, I guess? It didn't seem to fit with how he behaved before, so it grated me a little bit. Like they needed someone to be the warmonger as the Blood Legion guy was out doing a civil war instigation, so the dice landed on him.
Malice I love. Largely because of Agaue but MAN we know like. Nothing about her. And I love that to a degree, because she sort of exemplifies the Ash Legion as it is. Utter secrecy, utter silence. Also how everyone just kinda knows she has spies in every legion, like its an open secret. I don't have a lot to say but I Just Think She's Neat.
And because I think he technically counts? Efram. God I have so much love for Efram, and I desperately want anet to tell us more about him. I want to know more about how he rose to power, how he avoided assassination for his beliefs, whether he had his own camp that fell under him with various recruits. I want to know what changed his mind about female charr, I want to know about his daughter! He's such a cool concept but we know so little about him and I need more tbh.

Selecting Taimi and Trahearne for that one ask game about npcs
Send Me an NPC and I'll Share My Thoughts
Taimi is a little easier! I adore her to no end, but I will admit that in more recent years I'm a little sad it feels like they've sanded her edges off. She was a meanass of a little kid when we met her, absolutely stubborn as hell, disobedient, and a downright terror when push came to shove. And pretty down to commit some mild war crimes!
I get the feeling they tried to do it to show she was "maturing," but for the girl that's the apprentice of Zojja of all asura, someone known for her spitfire, sometimes a little nasty personality?
It just makes me a little sad that sometimes it feels like they're trying to make her more palatable.
Trahearne is... an odd case. I don't have anything against him. Don't even dislike him! I find him an interesting character, but I have zero connection to him. Never really read any real romance into interactions with him, didn't see him as someone who was my best friend from the jump but instead an understanding peer.
So I wind up just watching posts go by talking about how everyone clearly loves him, everyone can see the Deep Romantic Relationship, etc etc feeling a little baffled. And no shade at all on people who love him or ship with him regularly!
It just feels very much like a "We experienced this thing very differently" kind of situation.
(He had a great connection friendwise with some of my guys tho. I do like writing him, he's just not my favorite, and I personally don't see the connection as super deep for my guys.)
