Part of the Dorset Cursus, a 10km-long Neolithic cursus monument.
Cursus monuments are long parallel lines of ditches, crossing what would have been cleared countryside.  They were part of the Neolithic ritual landscape.
The Dorset Cursus is known for its extreme length, compared to other cursus monuments.  It runs along the chalk downland of Cranborne Chase in east Dorset.  It was probably constructed as two cursus, each the same length, with the Gussage Cursus (in the south) predating the Pentridge Cursus (in the north).
