El equipo Porsche Penske Motorsport envía el nuevo Porsche 963 a la caza de victorias generales en las mejores carreras de resistencia del mundo. A partir de 2023, dos de los prototipos híbridos con especificaciones LMDh se presentarán tanto en el Campeonato Mundial de Resistencia de la FIA como en el Campeonato IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar.

El vehículo de carreras que se presentó hoy (viernes 24 de junio) en Goodwood, Inglaterra, llevará los colores tradicionales de las carreras automovilísticas de Porsche: blanco, rojo y negro.

El debut oficial en la carrera del Porsche 963 está previsto para enero de 2023 en las 24 Horas de Daytona en los EE. UU., donde competirá en la nueva clase general que se conocerá como clase GTP.

This is the Mosler Consulier GTP,built in Riviera Beach FL, it’s a car that was so quick it went on to dominate IMSA racing for six years before being banned. It would later dominate the Longest Day of Nelson 24-Hour Race before being banned, and would then be banned for being too successful in Car and Driver magazine’s One Lap of America series.

Lamborghini SC63

Lamborghini is set to compete at the top level of endurance racing starting in 2024, with an entry in the premier classes of the IMSA SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship, known as GTP and Hypercar, respectively.

Lamborghini will enter one car in each of the full seasons of the SportsCar Championship and World Endurance Championship, meaning appearances at premier races including the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

First Look: The BMW M Hybrid V8 in its Race Livery

The BMW M Hybrid V8 has arrived in North America and was presented to the public in its racing colours for the first time at a launch event at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles (USA). The first prototype developed by BMW M Motorsport in 25 years will sport an avant-garde livery which leverages the iconic BMW M colours when it competes in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2023.

The four core drivers who will take their place at the wheel of the two BMW M Team RLL cars were also announced at the Petersen Museum. They are BMW M works drivers Connor De Phillippi (USA), Philipp Eng (AUT), Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Nick Yelloly (GBR). When the car makes its race debut at Daytona (USA) in January 2023, they will receive big-name support from IndyCar series driver Colton Herta (USA).

Colton is easygoing and laidback, a true California kid, yet is intensely competitive. Participant (rumored to be the mastermind) in several of the infamous Indy 500 bus lot pranks in recent years, he somehow eludes any true blame falling upon him. He’s well-liked within the paddock, most recently sort of adopted by the Bus Bros and nicknamed “Swolton.” He is also close friends with Alex Rossi, often staying with his former teammate when he needs to be in Indy. He doesn’t make a lot of waves off-track, one of the quietest drivers on social media, but makes up for it on-track with fantastic saves and crashes in equal measure. Just 23 years old in 2023 has 7 wins, 11 podiums and 9 poles in his young life.

F1 discussions.

In late summer 2022, it was announced that F1 team AlphaTauri had an interest in Colton for the 2024 F1 season. Colton, already signed to McLaren F1 as a test driver in addition to his Andretti contract in Indycar, was not eligible for a Super License, a requirement to drive in F1, but this could be addressed with an exception by the FIA. At one point it was announced that this was a done deal but it was not and Red Bull (AlphaTauri’s parent team) soon abandoned all efforts to acquire Colton as a driver.

The Super License system is a convoluted thing that I will not explain here other than to say that Indycar is vastly underrated in points assigned and if not for this discrepancy, Colton would have had more than enough points. But as it is, Colton had 32 points out of a needed 40. Other drivers in similar situations have raced in various lower tier FIA sanctioned series to make up the points and Colton was willing to do this over the winter of 2022-23 but this was also not allowed by the FIA.

But seeing Colton in F1 is still a possibility, should he do well enough in Indycar to earn the points needed and should Michael Andretti eventually succeed in buying an existing F1 team or convincing F1 to allow him to enter a new team. After the end of the 2022 Indycar season, Colton signed a multi-year contract extension with Andretti that includes the ability to switch to an Andretti owned F1 team.
