refs from all her mentions in the books
He forestalled the gesture by turning to the blood elf. She had golden hair and pale skin, and wore the bright, gleaming armor that marked her as one of her people’s paladins. “Where is Lor’themar?” Garrosh asked bluntly. Her full lips pressed together in irritation, but when she spoke, her voice was calm and pleasant. “He has sent me to oversee the blood elf troops. My name is Kelantir Bloodblade. I trained with the lady Liadrin, and I serve under Ranger-General Halduron Brightwing.” “Neither of whom is here,” said Malkorok, stepping protectively near Garrosh. “Instead we have this little third-ranking whelp.” Kelantir turned coolly to Malkorok. “You also have two ships filled with blood elves willing to fight and die for the Horde,” she said. “Unless you are so sufficient in numbers and supplies that our feeble support will not be necessary.” Garrosh had never much cared for blood elves, and this female was getting under his skin. “You have a chance to prove your people’s worth in battle today,” he said. “Take care you do not squander it.” “My people are familiar with war and battles and sacrifice, Warchief Garrosh,” snapped Kelantir. “You will not find us lacking.” With that, she turned on her heel and marched back to the docks, her plate mail— how can she even bear it on such a tiny, twig-fragile frame? Garrosh wondered—clanking slightly as she strode.
-
“Blar speaks truly, if somewhat inelegantly,” said Kelantir. “We have heard what happens to those who speak out against Garrosh. Thrall at least would have listened! And he never would have led us down this path! The Alliance will—” Baine held up a hand. “Peace, my friend. You are right about such things, but Thrall is no longer our warchief. Garrosh Hellscream is. And our purpose here tonight is not to lead an insurrection, but to discuss what he has done up until this point and the wisdom—or lack thereof—of his choices.”
-
“Yet knowing all this, Lady Sylvanas agreed to send aid to the endeavor. But to what end? We are gathered! The Horde has food, supplies, and for those of you whose blood still flows in your veins, I know that blood burns hot for battle. Why is he waiting? Each day that passes, his troops become more uncertain. This is not wisdom. This is simply…” He groped for words. “Irresponsibility.” Bloodblade extended her hand for the speaking stick. “I agree with Captain Farley. His lands and ours are vulnerable if the humans decide to retaliate there instead of sending ships to Theramore. The swifter the strike, the swifter the reward. I cannot comprehend why Garrosh delays. More time serves our enemies and harms us.”
-
“The inexplicable love some of you have for that peace-hungry shaman astounds me,” he said. He moved as he spoke, looking from face to face. “You would do well to remember it is because of Thrall that we are in this position to begin with! It was Thrall, not Garrosh, who let the Alliance encroach. Thrall, who held secret meetings with the human mage Jaina Proudmoore and all but sat like a dog at her feet. Thrall, whose mistakes I must now correct!” Bloodblade began to speak. “But, Warchief—” Garrosh whirled on the blood elf, striking her hard across the face. There was an angry murmur and a slight surge of the crowd. At once, Garrosh had Gorehowl in his hands, and the Kor’kron had swords and maces in theirs. “Your warchief is merciful,” Garrosh snarled. “You live, so that you may obey me, blood elf!” Bloodblade nodded slowly; the gesture was clearly painful.
-
Frandis Farley, having a poor excuse for a drink with Kelantir Bloodblade, turned at the sight. “Trouble,” Kelantir whispered. “Not necessarily,” Frandis replied in an equally soft voice. Before his companion realized what he was about to do, the undead was waving and calling cheerfully, “Friend Malkorok! Are you slumming? The contents of a chamber pot are probably better than the swill this rascal Grosk serves, but it’s cheap and I hear it does the job. Come, let us buy you a round.” The Kor’kron looked to their leader, who nodded. “Grosk,” Malkorok rumbled, “drinks all around.” He clapped Frandis on the back so hard the Forsaken nearly fell forward on the table. “I might expect to find tauren or Forsaken here.” He sneered as Grosk busied himself plopping down dirty glasses and a large jug of grog. “But I must say, you look sorely out of place.” “Not at all,” said Kelantir, narrowing her eyes. “I have been in worse places than this.” “Perhaps, perhaps,” Malkorok said. “But why are you not in Orgrimmar?” “Iron allergy,” Kelantir said. For an instant, Malkorok stared at her, then he threw his head back in a guttural laugh. “It does seem that you and several others prefer more rustic environments,” he said. “Where is that young bull Baine, and his toady, Vol’jin? I had hoped to speak to them.” “I have not seen them in a while,” said Kelantir, putting her boots up on the table. “I do not much involve myself with the tauren.” “Really?” Malkorok looked puzzled. “Yet we have witnesses that put both you and Frandis right in this very inn just last night, in close conversation with both the tauren and the troll, among others. They reported that you were saying things like, ‘Garrosh is a fool, and Thrall should return and kick him all the way to the Undercity, and it was cowardly to use the mana bomb on Theramore.’” “And the elements,” put in another of the Kor’kron conversationally as he reached for the jug of grog and refilled his cup. “Yes, the elements—something about how it was too bad Cairne hadn’t killed him when he had the chance, because Thrall would never utilize the elements in such a cruel and insulting fashion.”
-
The blood elf and the Forsaken were silent now. The two watched them go. When the Kor’kron had departed, Kelantir closed her eyes and exhaled. “That was far too close for comfort.” “Indeed,” said Frandis. “For half a moment, I expected to be arrested, if not outright attacked.” The blood elf turned to signal for more drinks, then frowned. “That is odd,” she said. “Grosk is gone.” “What? With such a crowded inn? He should be hiring more help, not skipping out with several thirsty customers waiting on him.” Their eyes met. No word was spoken between them, but as one, they rose and charged for the door. They almost made it until a frost grenade locked them into position. Three frag grenades finished the job, and Razor Hill Inn exploded.
-
Anduin had never been to the inn at Razor Hill, and saw nothing in the scene before him to make him want to have visited before it had been destroyed and rebuilt. It was dark, raucous, filthy, and likely foul-smelling. He noticed the bronze dragon Kairoz hiding a smile at some of the reactions that this particular tableau engendered. Nonetheless, it seemed to be a boisterous place of good cheer, until the Kor’kron entered. They paused at the door, their hulking presences blocking out most of whatever light penetrated into the tavern’s main room. Two patrons, a Forsaken and a sin’dorei, were drinking together, but looked up at the newcomers. “Pause,” Tyrande said. “These two Horde members are Captain Frandis Farley and Kelantir Bloodblade. Captain Farley was sent by the lady Sylvanas to command the Forsaken units that would serve under their warchief. The Blood Knight, Bloodblade, had previously served under Ranger-General Halduron Brightwing. Both, by all accounts, fought well in the battle against Northwatch Hold.” Anduin glanced over at the Horde area. Both Sylvanas and Halduron were leaning forward. Anduin had not heard of either Farley or Bloodblade, but judging by how their leaders reacted to their images, the two were held in high regard.
-
Bloodblade had hair the color of the sun and skin so pale as to look untouched by it. Even off-duty, she kept pieces of her armor on. “Perhaps, perhaps,” Malkorok said. “But why are you not in Orgrimmar?” “Iron allergy,” Kelantir said. Despite the tension, Anduin grinned. He liked this Kelantir. She was brave. It was the sort of thing his friend Aerin, a gutsy dwarf, lost to the upheaval of the Cataclysm, might have said.
-
“That was far too close for comfort,” Kelantir said, exhaling in relief. “Indeed,” said Frandis. “For half a moment, I expected to be arrested, if not outright attacked.” Kelantir looked around. “That is odd. Grosk is gone.” Frandis brought his jaw back into position for a frown. “What? With such a crowded inn? He should be hiring more help, not skipping out with several thirsty customers waiting on him.” And as the two locked gazes, Anduin knew. The hair at the back of his neck rose, and he wanted to shout out a warning. But this was not the present; it was the past, and it was too late, had already been too late by the time Farley and Bloodblade had realized what was going on. The ill-fated pair leaped to their feet and raced toward the door. Ice crackled up to stop them in their tracks, and the scene went white. The sound of an explosion echoed through the hall, and then the Vision disappeared.

Why is that large Adipose so large? And it's cute!
This one? Because it’s a fully grown adult adipose! We’ve never seen them onscreen (all the adipose seen in Partners in Crime are babies) but in “The Writer’s Tale” RTD briefly mentions one that’s 15 feet tall. I think it was part of a rough draft of a script for another story or something… can’t quite remember. But he did draw one in an illustration that’s printed in the same book:

Also adorable little adipose kids at the bottom:

In case any of you out there who are A. Broke AF, B. Unwilling to actually support JK financially, or C. Both, and still want to get their hands on a HP wand...
This is one of those Wish wands that the app sells. I think I spent 16 bucks on it with shipping. (It's one of the deluxe ones from the multi-listings)
It isn't perfect. Not by a long shot. Some of the grip-studs are just... holes. Two of them to be exact. Also, it's in need of some touch-up paint work. Not a lot, but a few of the grip-studs are unpainted and there's a bit of silver bleed on the grip. Finally, some of the molding is a bit spotty.
However, it has some weight to it (probably due to the metal core) and is pretty sturdy. This was shipped without a box and came fully intact. And for someone like me who isn't the biggest Potterhead there is but still has always wanted a wand, it works plenty well enough.
Oh and if you are wondering, no, that isn't a normal-sized figure there. I didn't clear off the desk first. That's a Grosk. From Doctor Who. If you want a scale, look at the mouse. It seems like it's the right size but then, again, I'm not the biggest HP fan.
Anyway, just wanted to put this on here. I hope to get a Lucius one as well to match and maybe a Seraphina. Not that I know crap about any of these characters, I've read the first book and seen the first five movies. I just really like magic wands. (It's a Wizzy thing.)

Timestamp #SJA22: Death of the Doctor
Sarah Jane Adventures: Death of the Doctor (2 episodes, s04e03, 2010)
The Doctor is dead. Long live the Doctor.
Luke is talking to the Bannerman Road Gang over webcam when UNIT arrive at Sarah Jane’s home. Colonel Tia Karim bears bad news: The Doctor is dead.
The Shansheeth discovered the body of a Time Lord and, upon confirming the DNA, organized a funeral. The Shansheeth delivered a holographic epitaph via Colonel Karim and Sarah Jane doesn’t believe the news, but Rani helps her to cope. Later that night, Sarah Jane muses with Luke that the Doctor cannot be dead. After all, she believes that she’d know somehow as though a piece of her was missing.
The Bannerman Road Gang take a road trip with UNIT to the funeral location at Mount Snowden, a massive UNIT base. While getting into the private car, Clyde experiences a jolt of energy, but he chalks it up to simple static electricity. When they arrive, they find out that the Brigadier is stranded in Peru and Liz Shaw is unable to leave the moon base in time for the service. They also see a group of Groske – a blue and tame version of the Graske – who tell Clyde that he smells like time. Clyde notices the energy on his hand and the Groske simply says that “he’s coming.”
The gang attend the gathering of remembrance where Sarah Jane requests that Karim open the coffin. The colonel replies that the Doctor was injured and a viewing is impossible. Sarah Jane notes that the last time that she saw the Doctor he was preparing for regeneration. He could have a completely different face now.
As the Shansheeth officiating the ceremony asks everyone to recollect their memories, Clyde recognizes the static as artron energy and a newcomer arrives. Enter: Jo Jones, previously known as Jo Grant. Sarah Jane recognizes her from the way that UNIT described her and they hit it off right away. Rani and Clyde meet Jo’s grandson Santiago who talks about the family’s globetrotting activism.
Jo is upset to learn that the Doctor returned for Sarah Jane. He never stopped in for her. But they share the belief that they’d feel it if the Doctor died (even on Metebilis III), so they start brainstorming his faked death. They also bond over their shared experiences on Peladon with the great beast Aggedor.
Meanwhile, Clyde pursues the mystery of the artron energy and we learn that the Shansheeth are trying to harvest the mourner’s memories of the Doctor using a memory weave that will kill the former companions. Clyde, Rani, and Santiago overhear the Shansheeth plot. They run back to Sarah Jane and Jo just in time for the Doctor to make contact through (and then exchange places with) Clyde.
Clyde’s on a red planet somewhere, but the Doctor is here. The companions catch up with the Doctor’s new face and the Time Lord confronts the Shansheeth. The Shanseeth reply with an energy beam and the sincerest wish that he rest in peace.
In the energy beam, the Doctor and Clyde swap places a couple of times. Once released, the Doctor runs with the assembled allies to safety behind a locked door. The Doctor grabs hands with Jo and Sarah Jane, spiriting “Smith and Jones” away to the red planet, the Crimson Heart. Clyde is left behind with Rani and Santiago in the locked room. They are soon rescued by the Groske and taken to his hiding spot in the ventilation system.
The Shansheeth, meanwhile, reveal that they have the TARDIS and are building a method to break in.
Sarah Jane and the Doctor work on the gadget that he used to swap places with Clyde while Jo muses about why the Doctor left her behind. After all, he did promise that he’d see her again. The Doctor reveals that, just before his regeneration, he visited every one of his former companions and is very proud of what Jo has done with her life.
Colonel Karim discovers where Rani, Clyde, and Santiago are hiding and locks them inside while turning up the heat. Luckily, the Doctor and his companions have fixed the device so they can return to Earth without leaving Clyde on the Crimson Heart. The Doctor saves the teenagers but Sarah Jane and Jo are captured by Karim and the Shansheeth.
The Shansheeth plan to use the memory weave to conjure a physical TARDIS key from the memories of the companions. They want to use the TARDIS to stop death on a universal scale and put an end to pain and suffering. Karim, on the other hand, merely wants to leave the planet and travel the stars.
The Doctor stops the memory weave’s operation by calling to the companions through the locked door and asking them to remember every adventure that he shared with them. Clyde and Rani also tell Sarah Jane to remember all of their adventures on Bannerman Road and Santiago prompts Jo’s memories of their Earthbound travels.
The memory weave overloads and begins a self-destruct sequence. Jo and Sarah Jane are trapped, but the Doctor reminds them of the lead-lined coffin. It provides just enough protection to shield the companions from the blast. The Shansheeth and Karim are destroyed and the Groske is amused by the smell of roast chicken.
Everyone hitches a ride home with the Doctor in the TARDIS. The companions say their farewells – Jo has no idea about the Time War, but why would she? – and the Doctor hies off to his next adventure. Rani and Clyde help Santiago figure out how to reunite with his parents, then Jo and Santiago say goodbye as they move on to Norway.
Sarah Jane tells her friends about the echoes of the Doctor around the globe: Tegan is fighting for aboriginal rights in Australia; Ian and Barbara Chesterton are Cambridge professors who are rumored not to have aged since the 1960s; Harry Sullivan is a doctor working on vaccines; Ben and Polly run an orphanage in India; and Dorothy McShane has raised millions through her company “A Charitable Earth”.
All of that from a simple Google search for “TARDIS”.
Long live the Doctor.
What a powerhouse story! Russell T Davies provided a story reflective of his years on Doctor Who, right down to the pacing and well-crafted prose. It’s also saturated with Doctor Who lore, including scenes from 36 adventures which I am not going to list here. Believe me, it’s tempting…
The attention to detail about regeneration – Jo knows about it since she met the First and Second Doctors – and the Last Great Time War is amazing. It’s also fun to watch the Doctor toying with Clyde about regeneration. The idea of 507 possible regenerations was a jest by this incarnation, but we know for a fact that regeneration can indeed result in changing into a form other than a white male.
I was amused by the Doctor musing about ventilation shafts, particularly in light of The Ark in Space, The Hand of Fear, and Planet of the Daleks. I also laughed about Amy and Rory’s marital adventures on the honeymoon planet. Ah, sentient planets.
Last but not least, the memory weave has a distinctive sound in science fiction history. It is unmistakably the activation sound for the proton packs in the Ghostbusters franchise. That takes me back.
Rating: 5/5 – “Fantastic!”
UP NEXT – Sarah Jane Adventures: The Empty Planet

Vee for victory
(This piece appeared in the Daily Record on Tuesday, 23 September, ahead of the broadcast of The Caretaker. It was slashed to pieces and it’s not the piece I originally wrote - but hey, that’s what subs-editors are there for! It’s a chat with Jimmy Vee - the Skovox Blitzer, and several other parts too)
Tumblr media
HE’S only 3ft 8in tall but Scots actor Jimmy Vee has a big place in Doctor Who folklore.
He’s just played his SIXTH different alien on the show.
Jimmy, from Harthill, West Lothian, stars opposite Peter Capaldi this Saturday as the Scovox Blitzer, an evil robot out to destroy humanity.
And he had a ball working with his fellow Scot.
Jimmy said: “Peter’s great – I got on with him really well. He’s playing it quite naturally, just going out to do it his own way.”
Jimmy has acted with the last four Doctors. He played the Moxx of Balhoon and the Spacepig in different episodes with Christopher Eccleston, and took on David Tennant as the villainous Graske.
Then came his Doctor Who highlight – getting engaged to Kylie Minogue as the heroic Bannakaffalatta in the 2007 Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned.
Jimmy also encountered Matt Smith when he played a Groske – a bit like a Graske, but nicer.
He meets fans all over the UK at Doctor Who autograph signing events and reckons the show is “taking off all over the world”.

DM: Grosk (werewolf leader) continues staring down Gromm.
Me: Is he trying to have a staring contest with Gromm?
Evan: He needs to maintain concentration on his control over him.
Me: Well, I don't know that. *in character* Hey, Francis! One silver piece on Gromm to win the staring contest with the werewolf.
Ben: Gromm only has one eye.
Me: I'm still betting on him to win.
