Clanmew Expansion: Finches
Lads it's about to be Clanmew time again, I'm gonna blitz through a bunch of asks but first, here are some I made a few days ago for the upcoming Clanmew 102 which evolved into expansive notes.
FINCHES
All 8 species of finch seen in the White Hart Wood and at Sanctuary Lake, and how Clan cats feel about them.
First things first! Finches have a 'generic' term, a word that describes the entire category;
Finch (Generic) = Afigu
A small bird with a large beak and colorful plumage, usually seen in groups.
One of the few birds that has a generic name in Clanmew. This is because finches are extremely social and will often flock with completely difference species of finch. A contraction of "Afaf" (Fluttering) and "Pigu" (Songbird).
When used as a name, it's usually invoking a social, friendly image. The name that Palebird chose for her fading kitten (which was quite the social taboo) was Afigumew, "Flocking Finch Kitten"
Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) = Miuu
[ID: Northern Bullfinches, a male on the left, a female on the right.]
Males have a bright salmon-pink belly, and a humble tweeting call. Their beaks are small and powerful, though ThunderClan sometimes comes in conflict with them as they like to eat the buds off of fruit trees.
Most often used as a name by ThunderClan cats, usually referencing jolliness and a love of food.
Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) = Qiliao
[ID: Two chaffinches. A female is on the left, a male is on the right.]
The common finch, males sporting a slate gray hood and red belly. Named for the sudden stop at the end of its song, this finch is a more active hunter than the others in its grouping.
When used as a name, it's used in the high hopes of the kit becoming a beautiful, social, and active hunter. Finchstar of ThunderClan's name in Clanmew was Qiliaoshai.
Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) = Wibuch
[ID: A goldfinch perched on a creeping thistle.]
Has a distinctive 'chime' in its call, a bright red face, and a distinguished yellow marking on its side. A specialist eater that can pluck seeds out of spiky plants such as thistles. Seen as resourceful and brave by Clan cats.
Finchlight of ThunderClan was named "Wibuchshayu," Goldfinch-Radiance, referencing Firestar's opposition of Thistle Law. She is called "Wi-sha" for short!
Greenfinch (Chloris chloris) = Sheeshoo
[ID: Two greenfinches on a mossy branch, a male on the left, a female on the right.]
Has a laugh-like call and is a uniquely colored, yellow-green bird. Seen year-round, males are a lot noisier than females. They tolerate conifers much better than most British birds, meaning they're often seen close to ShadowClan.
Regarded with suspicion by other Clans for their strange sounds and behaviors, it's used mostly by ShadowClan for bizarre and erratic cats. Finchflight of ShadowClan was named "Sheeshoofba," "Green Finch Will Liftoff Powerfully."
Brambling (Fringilla montifringilla) = Nree
[ID: A brambling perched on a twig.]
A winter-exclusive bird that likes to eat beech nuts. Large, beautiful, and delicious. In the Forest Territories they liked RiverClan's beech patch, in the Lake territories they are only seen in ThunderClan.
Older kittens and young apprentices anointed in winter often meet bramblings as the first bird they'll stalk, as the beech patch is just north of ThunderClan camp and a very safe place to explore as soon as they understand that yew berries are deadly. Use as a name invokes winter, soft memories, and a welcome meal.
Lesser Redpoll (Acanthis cabaret) = Chrri
Mostly seen in winter. Varied, always has a red spot on the top of the head, but sometimes also has a pinkish belly, or is nearly completely brown. The call is short, harsh, and almost rattle-like.
Can be translated into English as 'finch,' 'poll,' or 'redpoll' at translator's discretion. There is a greater redpoll, but it is very rare in this region! When used as a name, it may reference uniqueness. No two lesser redpolls look the same.
Siskin (Spinus spinus) = Iweewi
[ID: A siskin perched on an alder twig, eating seeds out of the cones.]
A bright yellow bird with a rapid call. Considered a survivor for being able to survive year-round in any type of woodland, including conifers, but pretty small to be taken for food except in emergencies. Has a particular love of alder trees and can be seen around them a lot.
Linnet (Linaria cannabina) = Nanarree
[ID: Two linnets. On the left is a female, on the right is a male in breeding plumage.]
Sometimes considered a finch by Clan cats, though it wouldn't be hard to argue to them that it's a hybrid between a sparrow and a redpoll. The kitties have not figured out taxonomy! They love to eat flax and other seed-bearing plants, and thus are seen often in ShadowClan, RiverClan, and at WindClan's watery borders.
In either case, a linnet is strongly considered a 'pigu' and killing one is considered very dishonorable, especially in WindClan. Their songs are sonorous, and hearing them is a beloved experience.

Songbirds of Doriath
Flora, fauna, geography and environment of Arda Masterlist
Orchids of Doriath, Mosses of Doriath, Ferns of Doriath
I love doing general flora and fauna posts but I can’t fit everything in them so I’m trying to make more specific ones as well! please please feel free to send categories to work on with locations! Or any environmental world building asks!
In ornithology songbirds are defined as species who possess a lower larynx or species belonging to the suborder passeri. This includes thousands of species that live all over the world, with the exception of Antarctica
Doriath is a region made up of a variety of forests. There is Region, a forest of holly and other mostly deciduous trees, Neldoreth, an ancient beechwood, Nivrim, a forest of primarily oak north of the twilit meres and finally Arthórien, a forest we have almost no information on, divided from the rest of the kingdom by the river Aros which runs along the Eastern border of greater Doriath.
Songbirds are canonically associated with the region and especially the queen, Melian, whose power was said to bring song to nightingales. She was also a Maia of Vána, as well as Estë. Vána was associated with songbirds and flowers. Lúthien’s sobriquet means nightingale and there are many references to songbirds in association with her in both canon and pre canon sources
like my others, I am going to add some world building notes at the end so it's not just listing species
Species:
In the deeper woods: chaffinch, azure tit, greenish warbler, song thrush, common nuthatch, golden oriole, long tailed tit, hawfinch, lesser redpoll
Forest edges: rose finch, horned lark, marsh warbler, chestnut bunting, white wagtail, common nightingale, common wren
Migratory: woodchat strike, wood warbler, thrush nightingale, redwing, fieldfare, sedge warbler, varied thrush, red throated thrush, bluethroat
Specific to Region: mistle thrush
River banks and alder groves: brambling, Willow tit, marsh tit (occasionally found along the river in Neldoreth too), common reed bunting
Arthórien specific: rusty crowned babbler, golden crowned babbler, grey thrush, maroon oriole
Other note: there are many species that exist throughout the kingdom that do not have equivalents in the real world. Some of these were brought by the Melian and some of these are, simply species unique to. Arda
World building notes:
-song birds are common in art, music, poetry, and lore. Though they have group associations (Melian and thus, Doriath itself, joy and livelihood, song) different species often have their own associations as well! Thrushes for example are associated with melancholy, seasonal change, and contemplation. Warbler species tend to be associated with summer and with revelry.
-I spoke about this on my post about speculative biology and elves, but I believe the elves can imitate a variety of animal nature sounds with higher accuracy than humans, and this is due in part to differences in vocal systems, as well as in their hearing and imitation abilities.
-Many games of Sindar children involve bird calls and different ones are often assigned meanings, some obscure, some almost universal.
-The marchwardens of Doriath also frequently use bird calls as well, changing based on season and location so their calls fit with the environment.
-It is considered highly taboo to slay a songbird as they are not hunted for food or materials but also because of the spiritual significance. Feathers may only be used when found having been lost or fallen, not taken from live birds or their bodies. Many will say a prayer to Melian or Vána at the sight of a fallen songbird
-Just as with butterflies, many species of birds inspired exploration in color and led to the development of pigments. Alder bark, from trees found primarily in Nivrim, is associated with varied thrushes as well as with orange tip butterflies, for example

Daddy And also Little girl Having Sex.
The very most recurring response is actually that of their moms and dads or grandparents if you ask a child under the age of 4 which is their part model. My papa claimed their next problem was actually to get on their own recognized, and although they tried bits of English, French, and my daddy also attempted Hindustani as he had actually know that when he was actually a young boy in India, as a matter of fact all the tongues they understood.
This doesn't function that way Mothers are actually dads as well as females are actually male, I strongly believe that for a little one to mature in a satisfied safe setting is actually to have a mommy and also a father this supplies a healthy equilibrium from design in your lifestyle a support system!
A committed daddy from three little ones, he is involved along with a variety of goodwills, featuring associations that assist with cancer therapy, performers, as well as displaced blog4u-Health4u.Info and handicapped folks and also provides his personal time in a variety of techniques to youth sanctuary residences and creature home teams.
Some of the most significant trainings I gained from my daddy is one thing that I strongly believe holds a vital course for everybody. Management is certainly not just appearing at the office or perhaps what our company carry out while our company exist; management can be, and also must be actually, a lot more multi-dimensional compared to that.
I am actually inspired by my personal husband's gorgeous trip right into fatherhood, and also through a beautiful Jewish pal which related to a manual reading for the compendium I co-edited - Affection, InshAllah: The Top secret Lovemaking from American Muslim Girls - and also informed our company that just what she discovered most ambulating the 25 non-fiction accounts about Muslim ladies's hunt for affection was actually the nuanced portrayal from Muslim males, particularly dads.
Having said that, one point that a lot of studies set is actually that little ones perform not usually fair as well in the absence from a dad and also poor efficiency at institutions, drug use, intense actions and illegal activity are actually extra frequently viewed in kids which are actually increased without a father.
I have to receive passed all of it in a healthy technique but to me receiving expecting as well as becoming a singular mother is actually not a spot from healing to me. I make certain that your youngsters are excellent however there will definitely be problems within all of them that you may certainly not stay away from.
The attendant visited a hut that had been actually prepared some 10 paces from the cave, and Daddy Sergius continued to be alone. The birds along the flow were additionally much more plentiful than in the greater locations and a male Redpoll landing on a fence front from me was really pleasant.
The good news is there are a number of types of federal government grants that are on call for solitary moms and dads and also it does not matter at all if you are actually the mother or the dad. My papa and also I invested many hours asking the question of exactly how could possibly our team produce the simple granulated sweets come to be like goodie syrup as well as be actually difficult.
One thing father easily failed to provide his own father was a customizeded mouse pad. It relies on the alternative of the mother and also daddy to decide furnishings for their little bit of babies. The amount of from a role the groom's papa enjoys the real wedding ceremony depends partly on your family's customs and culture.
