Following the loss of his wife and son, King Viserys made an unprecedented decision. He declared his only child Princess Rhaenyra as his rightful heir and granted her the title of Princess of Dragonstone, disregarding the precedents established by King Jaehaerys and the Great Council in 101.
As the ceremony proceeded, the doors of the Great Hall suddenly opened and the Kingsguard announced the arrival of Prince Daemon, her uncle, whom she had never met before.
With a slow, purposeful gait, he approaches her, his gaze cold and dark. He stops only inches away, scrutinizing her with intensity.
Although she had heard of him, it wasn’t from her parents. Ser Otto often spoke of him in a derogatory manner during the small council meetings, referring to him as “the Second Maegor.”
Or worse.
However, she finds it surprising that the Hand of the King has fallen deadly silent since her uncle’s arrival, especially considering he was always the most outspoken member of the council.
Even with his piercing gaze fixed on her, Rhaenyra remained calm and composed. She refused to give in to fear or any outward signs of weakness. She was a dragon, after all, and she would not back down from anyone – not even him.
She met his gaze head-on.
As Rhaenyra looked up at him, his smile seemed cold and unwelcoming. She couldn’t help but feel a shiver run down her spine. His gaze then shifted from her to her father, who was standing behind her.
The room was filled with an unrelenting tension and an eerie silence that seemed to stretch on for an eternity. Suddenly, to everyone’s surprise, Daemon unsheathed his sword, Dark Sister, and knelt.
“I, Daemon, of House Targaryen, promise to be faithful to King Viserys and his named heir, the Princess Rhaenyra. I pledge fealty to them and shall defend them against all enemies in good faith and without deceit. I swear this by the old gods and the new.”
Or: Rhaenyra has never met Daemon until he returns home to King’s Landing after years of exile in Essos.
