Steffen Grap x Polaroid "Isse No Se" Exhibition

Iconic photography brand Polaroid and Berlin-born artist Steffen Grap are jointly presenting the “ISSE NO SE” (from Japanese: "voices in unison") exhibition. One of the pioneers in today's subculture, Steffen Grap gives an exclusive look at the underground scene in Tokyo captured through the lens of the Polaroid I-2.

The exhibition "ISSE NO SE" delves deep into Japanese subculture with the theme of "Wabi-Sabi: Wisdom in Imperfection." In his work, Steffen Grap reflects his own expectations of Tokyo in the compares them with the real Tokyo. A collection of Polaroid photographs present vivid scenes, from skateboarding to street photography, architecture to portraits. Next to the Polaroid images, Graps signature collages and mashups are coming to life.

The exhibition opened its doors to the public on September 7th, 2023 at SAFE SPACE on Torstraße 26 and offers an intimate look into Steffens' creative world through Polaroid. The showcase includes 9 different artworks while his yet unseen Polaroid images shot on I-2 build the center. Mixed with his signature artworks, an installation and apparel. The vernissage took place with special support by ASAHI SUPER DRY 辛口.

The traditional analog experience combined with modern camera technology which Polaroid I-2 offers, leverages the outcome of Graps Tokyo trip. Armed with the sharpest ever Polaroid lens and built-in manual controls, the I-2 produces exceptional image quality that prospers the perception of instant photography. The exhibition is accompanied by a 9-minute-long film shot by Sergio Ben Mario.

Summary: Logan imagines what it would be like to be one of the heroes in the stories he's always reading

With a simple gesture, Logan turned to the next page in his book, feeling the soft paper between his hands and taking in the smell of the new book. Stories had always fascinated Logan, he loved the idea of making a change in the world, just like most of the heroes did. Although, most of those heroes were pretty dense, the smart sidekick might fit Logan better. He softly laughed to himself, yeay he could imagine himself being the typical nerd in the story. Not that he minded, Logan has always praised himself for his intelligence and wisdom.

Logan leaned back into the couch, adventures did sound interesting. He would solve some ancient code, return a long lost map or maybe even discover some treasures!

He could imagine Roman being the hero of the story. Eventhough Roman and him didn't always see eye to eye, Logan had to admit that he was quite brave and likeable from time to time. The role of the oblivious, but likeable character definitely fit his friend.

Logan imagined that going on an adventure with Roman would mean something dangerous. Fighting a bunch of pirates, running away from some angry beast and lots and lots of arguments about which way they should go.

However, if they wanted to go on a successful adventure they would need their friends. Virgil would probably help to keep Roman down to earth. With Virgil's fight or flight reflexes, they would manage to escape from a lot of dangerous situations. If you let Virgil choose an adventure, he'd probably pick something like finding a new emo band or actually going outside for once. He'd claim that he's the villain but he's actually Anti-Hero. (or the love interest if you'd ask Roman)

But their adventure wouldn't be complete without Patton. They wouldn't survive a day without someone to calm them down. Patton would be the one to stop arguments and to save the magicale creatures. His soft-hearted nature, mixed with his determination would definitely complete their crew.

Unfortunately, this story only lives in Logan's imagination. For now, the crews biggest adventure is trying to survive living in the same house together.

"And? Was it the end you were hoping for?"

Logan looked up at his boyfriend, who clumsily carried, or tried to carry seven large books. Hastily, Logan stood up to take some the books from the pile.

"Why are you carrying so many books sweetheart?" Logan spoke with light concern in his voice, "You could have asked for help, I would have loved to help you."

Patton softly giggled as he placed his books on the table. He sat down on the couch and grapped the first book of his pile. Logan joined him back onto the couch and Patton leaned into him.

"Well, you looked so happy and dreamy while reading, so I decided to join you! I didn't have that many books though, so Virgil and Roman lent me a few!"

A soft smile appeared on Logan's face as he pulled Patton closer by his waist. "That's a great idea honeybee"

Patton started his book and Logan burrowed his face soflty in his boyfriend's curls, taking in the sweet cinnamon smell. Yeay, adventures sounded fun, but Logan didn't really need something exciting and risky like that. He was perfectly happy right here, with Patton in his arms.

When I Prefer Micron Legend And Superlink Over Generation One

Without Generation One, there will be no Transformers franchise (no Beast Wars, no Robots In Disguise, no Unicron Trilogy, no Bayformers, no Animated, no Aligned continuity, no Bumblebee (2018), no other work relating to Transformers).

Generation One originated in the 1980's, considered to be the best decade in pop culture history.  Transformers gave us giant robots besides Mecha anime shows like Voltron, Gundam, Mazinger, Robotech, and Evanglion; cool music ("The Touch," anyone?), and many different ideas for fan media.  The franchise is also well-known for having so many different characters of many different incarnations, with G1 being the most intriguing.

That said, while I really like Generation One, I came across two (technically three, but I saw two) anime shows that have the most G1 callbacks of all Transformers works; these anime shows are Micron Legend (original version of Armada) and Superlink (original version of Energon).  As I saw both of these anime series, and am currently rewatching the Generation One TV show, there are many factors in Micron Legend and Superlink that are actually better than G1.

Here are some examples where Micron Legend and Superlink are superior to the Generation One TV show:

- Micron Legend and Superlink prove to be darker and more heart-wrenching than G1; for instance, Thrust's death in Micron Legend looks more gruesome than Starscream's death in the 1986 film (getting slowly crushed to death feet first over freezing into crumbling stone the instant a laser hit its target), and the reactions to Optimus' death induced me to tears in Micron Legend (Hot Rod blaming himself for yelling at Optimus without getting a chance to apologize or say goodbye, even Megatron was grieving for his arch-nemesis' death (listen to him shouting Optimus' name after Prime was reduced to space dust in Episode 39), also Starscream's reaction in Episode 40), as well as Unicron

- Unicron's interior (and the Planet Eater, in general) is more unsettling than in G1; mind screwing other Transformers, tentacles trapping characters, paralyzed Transformers, the Micron's (Mini-con) origin, etc., the whole interior is similar to many cocooned scenes in Aliens (1986)

- The anime shows did not overdo it with puns (they hardly have any puns), while G1 had plenty of puns (yet interesting terminology); Armada and Energon, on the other hand, are filled with confusing puns that even 4Kids would have done better with during their career

- The characters in Micron Legend and Superlink were introduced better and more coherent than in G1 (G1 had the characters debut without any explanation as to how they arrived to Earth and allied with the rest of the Autobots or Decepticons (it was never explained how Brawn and Huffer came to be in Episode 9 vs. Silverbolt (Blurr) was called by Devastator (Scavenger) to search for more Microns in Episode 20 of Micron Legend)

- The Transformers in Micron Legend and Superlink are a lot more human than the Transformers in G1; for instance, they make sounds when in pain or distressed (grunting, groaning, screaming, and whining), show exhaustion after running or fighting, have inner thoughts (anime tends to do that, anyways, mostly with humans), and even sob (younger Transformers tend to cry, while older Transformers are silent, or scream in agony (like Optimus Prime in Episode 33 when Grap (Smokescreen) died); of course they have feelings and emotions); they even make grunting or screaming sounds while in their alt-modes (even more so than G1, which did not do as much human-like sounds with alt-modes as with robot modes); to put it plainly, they are more relatable to most audiences

- The soundtrack (score) in Micron Legend has a more variety than G1 did (classical, rock, 1980's style music, and sometimes techno (especially in Superlink))

- Even Superion looks better in Superlink than in G1

- Certain characters subvert their traditional G1 roles in Micron Legend and Superlink (like Starscream whose main motive was not overthrowing Megatron and is more sympathetic than his G1 counterpart, and Ironhide who is a Decepticon instead of an Autobot and is younger instead of older)

- The deaths in Micron Legend and Superlink are a lot sadder than in G1 (Starscream in Micron Legend (Episode 48) and Ironhide in Superlink (Episode 16), as well as Optimus Prime in Micron Legend (Episode 39) and a few others in Superlink such as Wing Dagger and Inferno (both of which got better and had new forms))

- Micron Legend and Superlink are more mature than G1 (even though G1 has more mature themes like espionage and betrayal than other cartoon shows)

- The two shows are more thrilling, exciting, suspenseful, action-packed, and have me at the edge of my seat, especially in the last episode of Micron Legend

- Age is more apparent in Micron Legend and Superlink than in Generation One (behavior, wisdom, height (sometimes), even voice); younger Transformers tend to be more emotional than older Transformers, for instance; both Autobots and Decepticons have really young, almost teenage-like, Transformers (Hot Rod (Hot Shot) and Ironhide (Demolishor) are really well-known examples) that make the anime shows a lot lighter despite their really dark themes

- While G1 was set in 1984 when the show debuted (1984), it was implied that Micron Legend was set in a more contemporary future like 2010 when the anime debuted (2002-2003)

- G1 had nearly the whole human population know about the Transformers since the More Than Meets The Eye portion, while in Micron Legend, the whole population (aside from the main human characters and the children) were unaware about the Transformers existing until Superlink (set in a farther away future); and since even Decepticons have children in their rankings, it is slightly concerning how the adult humans would react if they were to come across at least one of them (God forbid if they started to attack Ironhide in front of Megatron, Starscream, or Sandstorm (Cyclonus)), since Deceptions are brutal enemies, and their leader may be more dangerous when a younger Decepticon gets attacked (even in self-defense); in other words, humans are generally safer in Micron Legend than in G1, in which the Decepticons would be more than pleased to attack, kill, or even kidnap humans for their own agenda

- The two anime shows are how I became really interested in seiyuu in the first place (especially before I knew some of them in Sonic X); seiyuu are extremely underrated in Transformers since not very many fans (Trans-fans and seiyuu fans) talk about them as much

- Micron Legend and Superlink are generally really underrated anime shows

Of course, Generation One will always be better than most other works, but if you add the two anime series to the equation, Generation One has many flaws (then again, almost all Transformers works have errors), and some of their plots are slightly off and confusing.  Micron Legend and Superlink does better with the plot and introduction, but the only reason I will put them in a draw with G1 is that G1 has classic 1980's songs that the anime shows do not have, and the anime shows have more callbacks to Generation One.

That is all I will be saying for now.  I am still making a list of specific content that I want to see more on Tumblr, DeviantArt, and many other fandom-friendly sites; I still have more to be filled in before I consider it complete so I can post it.

Knowning when to push hard and when to dialed it back a litttle is something it took me years to fully graps. If you don't push hard enough you won't get anywhere, but if you push hard for too long you'll get injured or burnout. More is not always better, understanding this is easy, but it takes wisdom and maturity to apply it. And the funny things with wisdom and maturity is that it comes with experience and lots of trial and error. Unless you're surrounded with the right people and coaches, you'll probably have to learn the hard way. At 42 i'm still here training to my hearts content. A key reason is that i've learn to listen to my body and use my mind. I know what my system needs to recover. Being fit and healthy, physically, mentally and spiritually is really the only priority for me. Nothing else really matters imho. d20 Iron Brigade, Post 1 the Basics

Iron Brigade is a DieselPunk Horde shooter released by Double Fine Productions and Microsoft in 2011.   Set in an alternate post World War 1 world where  a mysterious signal swept the world, killing almost everyone that heard it and turning the survivors into technological savants.

The Broadcast

D20rules: When the Broadcast passes through a region of space it can be detected by any suitably powerful radio or television receiver.  Any active radio/television set connected to an “infected” receiver begins broadcasting a loud static noise.  Any creature with an intelligence of 3 or higher that can hear the static must make a DC 27 Fort Save or be instantly slain, any one that passes the save suffers 2d6 points of permanent Strength and Constitution drain.  A creature that survives hearing the Broadcast must then pass a DC 30 Will save, a creature that passes the save gains the technical knowledge necessary to build technologies upto 2 progress levels higher than their world's base progress level.  Creatures that fail the save gains an unbreakable allegiance to the Broadcast and  the ability to create a Monovision network along with all its corresponding creatures and devices.   A creature that fails the will save is also capable of merging itself into a newly created or pre-existing Monovision network.  Once the Monovision network is complete and integrated into society, creatures with an allegiance to the Broadcast will begin attempting to expose all other sapient creatures on their world to it.

Monovision

D20rules: The Monovision network can be used in  a similar way to the internet with successful Computer use and Search checks.  All spells and psionic powers that can be used over a computer network or the internet can be used through the monovision network.

Monovision Network: An inter-connected mesh of “wires”,used to transmit information or Creatures between sets, relays and conduits.  

Monovision sets: resemble a an old-fashioned CRT television set, functions as a high-end Desk top PC.

Monovision Relay hubs: Collect/store data, “houses” the Monovision creatures assigned to its region

Channel the Broadcast:  Farnsworth or a similarly powerful being that has allowed themselves to be completely tied into the Monovision network, can send out less effective versions of the original Broadcast to any Monovision set that is currently turned on and connected to the Network.  All living creatures that can conceivably hear the set are exposed to the Broadcast.

Create Back up (Su): Farnsworth or a similarly powerful being that has allowed themselves to be completely tied into the Monovision network, can expend 5000xp to infuse an animal, monstrous vermin, or magical beast (Int 2 or less only) with cybernetic components created from the Monovision network, this process takes 2d4 weeks and requires the caster or attending assistants to pass two seperate DC 30 craft (mechanical) and two seperate DC 30 first aid checks. If the process is successful, the animal is transformed into a back up unit (see below).  

Conduit

D20rules: Monovision creatures can use the Conduits to enter or Exit the Monovision network with their “Walk the Wires” Special Quality. If creature(s) hostile to the Broadcast approaches within 50ft a conduit, it will release a sonic pulse hurling all un-anchored, creatures or objects backwards 60ft (Ref 25 to resist), creatures thrown back are typically unharmed but, will suffer appropriate falling damage if they encounter a solid object before traveling the full 60ft, anything that passes the reflex save, suffers a -4 circumstance penalty to all saves, checks and rolls until they move more than 50ft away from the conduit.  

Pylons

Pylons are powerful and unique Monovision creatures created to anchor all the hubs and Conduits in a region, Game Masters are encouraged to create their own Pylons to serve as boss enemies.

Scrap

D20rules: When a Monovision creature is slain, it degrades into a pile of “scrap” (typically 1 piece per hit point).  Scrap can be collected by specially designed collection devices and used to deploy and upgrade battlefield equipment.   Scrap not preserved by a Scrap collecting device dissolves after 2d4+1 rounds.

Back-up creature

Back up creature is an acquired template that can be applied to any Medium or large animal, vermin or magical beast with an Intelligence of 2 or lower (from here on referred to as the base creature) by a powerful sentient creature tied into the Monovision network (referred to here after as the creator).  Once created the Creator downloads a copy of their consciousness into the newly created Back-up creature, this copy will remain dormant until the death or destruction of the creator at which point it will activate (referred to as dormant and activated/activation respectively).  A Back up creature does not benefit from any class levels or knowledge that the creator gained after its creation.

Template Creatures

Challenge Rating: Base creature's CR+4 while dormant, Creator's CR+4 when activated

Creature Type: Upon creation the base creature's type changes to Outsider with the Native Subtype

Hit Dice: Upon activation replace the base creature's natural hit dice with the creator's, all die types change to d8

Speed: Becoming a Back up creature does not alter the base creature's speed

Defense: Adds creator's class defense bonus to the base creature upon creation.

Attack/Damage: Replaces the base creature's Base Attack bonus with creator's base attack bonus upon activation

Traits: the new Back up creature gains all traits common to an outsider, The newly created  Back up creature also retains all type and class based special qualities of the base creature, upon activation they gain all the special qualities of the creator.

Mutations (Su):  Upon creation, a Back up creature will develop 1d6-1 mutations (minimum 0)

Cybernetics (Su): During the creation process, the Monovision network extends tendrils that intertwine with the base creature, causing the base creature to “grow” an number of randomly selected cybernetic components equal to the base creature's Constitution modifier.  The Tendrils will also install 1 or more compact monovision screens so the back up creature can properly interact with other sentient creatures but, these do not technically count as cybernetics.

Secondary Back up (Su): Once activated, a Back up creature can create its own Back up creature (using itself as the creator)

Allegiances: At time of creation, the creator's Allegiances replace the base creature's

Saves: While Dormant, a Back up creature retains its base saves.  Once activated, the base creature's Save bonuses are replaced by the creator's base saves

Action Points: Upon activation, the Back up creature gains a number of action points equal to the action points the creator possessed when the dormant backu creature was created.

Reputation: Upon activation, the Back up creature gains the creator's reputation bonus

Ability Scores: A dormant Back up creature retains all the base creature's ability scores, an activated Back up creature replaces the base creature's Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma scores with the creator's, however the activation process causes 4 points of permanent Wisdom drain

Skills: While dormant, the Back up creature retains the skills of the base creature, upon activation the base creature's skill ranks are replaced by the creator's, however it retains any species based skill bonuses.

Feats: While dormant, a Back up creature retains its base creature's feats, upon activation it gains the creator's feats as well.
