Major Project - Campaign Research 1
I wanted to gather visual research of campaigns that relate either visually or conceptually to my proposed outcome, seen below.
Studio Marcus Kraft - Theatre Spektakel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The campaign by Studio Marcus Kraft shows how 3D test and artworks can be incorporated into an otherwise digitally created campaign. The blend of physical, analogue crafts and digital design creates a dynamic campaign that draws attention to the physical props used throughout the show. In this way the campaign informs both about the show, and the process and techniques used behind the scenes to cast the props.
School of Visual Arts - Subway Posters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For 75 years artists have created subway posters for the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I like how the identity for the school is a combination of the styles of its students and artists, as it expresses the collaborative and inherently unique artwork of its students.
Droga5 - The new York Times
With a ling history of creative and visually stunning campaigns, the New York Times have carved a distinct identity for themselves using found imagery and their trademark typography. I like the campaign as it features imagery of the basketball court floorboards (see above). The clip highlights the 'behind the scenes' of a basketball game by animating the floorboards creaking. Changing the perspective from the game to the behind the scenes is creates a new viewpoint for the audience, who may feel more appreciation for behind the scenes.

Manmeet Sandhu in NYC, Day 13
@9.30 Trip to oyester cleaning
Took a ferry ride to Governors Island ....saw Statue of Liberty from the first time though from a distance..it was a long walk to oyester park /billion oyester project from the ferry point. It almost seemed that i lost my way...
The project, as Ashley told was a long running project  and had a deadline to clean and repopulate/rehabilitate  a billion oyesters by 2025...for this they seek the volunteers on a regualr basis , hence therew were volunteers amongst the group that had been helping for an year or more...
(my understanding of the project-) the idea behind the project was to acquire used oyester from the restaurants around NYC... clean and wash them and then artificially inseminate/ put the embryo/re-fertilize them and then put them back in the water around NYC. Hence giving the poor oyesters a bit of a push in procreation, saving there time and energy...
Our job of the day was to clean and arrange around the project area for some high profile visit the next day...
Have to mention the place was filled oyester in piles and in racks and they had an entire paraphernalia/ machinery to  do the cleaning...,
The volunteers were divided into groups...few including arranged the racks, removed the trash from the oyester park, while the sun baked us...later i tried shovelling oyester in a basket for the cleaning and washing process, it wasn't  easy
Chatted with a few volunteers , some showed interest in why / How was I there.. discussion about sustainability programs in Delhi/Bangalore...
About the island...with its abandoned houses/ buildings, no high-rises, looks beautiful and almost like old America that we see in the films...
And there was a pop up market too...
Pop up markets in NYC have graphic designers, Jewellery and young designers selling their works in the form of stickers, print, cards, t shirts , glass art  ceramics, belts , food, and so on... inspiring and motivating...
Wandering around the island it was surprising to see that the houses there were let out as studios for various art residencies program ( a NYC project)... weekends were open days... The projects also included art projects by  school students  ... probably the best part of the program. Enjoyed the trip...
Took the 2 o'clock ferry to mainland as guided and reached Marjorie Eliot's place for some jazz music. My first home/studio events ...there were five musicians, including  Marjorie who took turns playing the piano, the lively jamming made the packed parlour come alive. The also hosted a German musician who was there for short visit...
The last event of the day was finding Campbell soup cans and coconut cookies around the neighbourhood ... a lucky find...
Later realised missed to participate in an online discussion on racism...wish i hadn't...

The Creators
Tumblr media
ThoughtFull Design Studios is a studio based in Auckland and is a huge source of inspiration to me. They have worked for many big companies in New Zealand but I find myself always going to the rebranding of Kiwibank. I love the consistent design system throughout the Kiwibank brand from the bank cards to physical ATMs.
Tumblr media
Paula Scher is one of the biggest and most influential designers of our time. Paula and her studio Pentagram have designed many iconic brands (Public, MoMa). She was one of my inspirations for my Sun Wukong book with typography as form. She is one of my design heroes.
Tumblr media
Pete McDonald is a Kiwi graphic designer, he's main discipline is illustration. I couldn't find any info about him. He was also one of my inspirations for my Sun Wukong book.
Tumblr media
Tyrone Ohia is a Maori graphic designer., he is the creative designer at Extended Whanau. I really like how he uses his cultural background in his work. I choose him because of his publication work.
Tumblr media
Josef Muller Brockmann is one of the most influential designers of all time. He is the pioneer of the Swiss grid system style. I discovered who he was through one of my assignments in first year and after it changed my view on publication and design in general. He is one of my design heroes.
Tumblr media
Massimo Vignelli is one of the biggest designers of his time, designing many iconic designs including packaging and signage, but the most iconic, of which is still in use today, is the NYC Subway design. I really love his typography work, his is a source of my inspiration.
Tumblr media
A map of all the creators plus the Klim Type Foundry, who are a big inspiration to me.
