(2-3/3) Primary Color Trio: Gothic Literature OCs Edition
OTTO BOYLE GRAHMS and MARTIN JAMES BLACKWATERS
Once again, I’ll leave in depth character summaries on their actual Victorian counterparts, as these are younger (college) modern versions to ease myself into the designs. Here’s a basic summary:
- Martin is a Librarian and writer, going into the family tradition of being specialized in literature. He adores symbolism and underlying themes of a narrative, and believes everyone should have a chance at education no matter the kind.
- Otto is a cook, French is her first language but they’re trying to get better at English due to his environment. A ride or die, loyal to the end— no matter how long or short the time is. Friendship & loyalty is very important to her, so, as a friend of 6 years she’s an interesting character.
Hello yes, I am part of the niche blond Victor Frankenstein superiority movement, which may very well be just me at this point.
He looks a bit stoic here which is totally how he wants you to see him, he’s dressed nicely but I think that’s probably Elisabeth’s doing lol, I think he insisted on the tie though, to her annoyance.
Also no that’s not a rash on his face but I’m also not gonna tell you what it is ha ha…yeah, it’s lichtenberg scarring..l- ok
I made this some time ago when I was trying out some new things. I cleaned it up a bit so why not post.
Little designs for Maurice! Who is literally just another one of Everett's softboi disguises...
In this case, he's a young "naive" academic at Chesterfield University. He ends up almost getting sacrificed by his own cult there 🤣 (Honestly, he was just messing with them...)
I wanna do a mini comic playing out this scenario, but we'll see after I get the main comic done 😅
I forgot to post literally anything but uhhh more phantom of the opera oc, rendering this dress took hours but ah well. I also have one where she's in like a beam of light But I'm not as fond of that one. So. Anywho. Riva Voltaire, the English widow and patron to Palais de la Opera. I'll update later once I get the file downloaded, of when she snuck into Box 5.
I have a tradition on Instagram that every time I finish a sketchbook I post some of my fav sketches and pages! Well now I have tumblr to share my sketchbooks with!
(I may be a bit ahead of myself introducing her but I cannot wait for season 2!)
Introducing Mrs. Ann Craven Jekyll, Henry’s mother and eternal thorn in his side. Languishing in her “moderate” abode in the heart of Paris with her retired husband, Ann spends her days keeping up with the times and making calls with her peers. When she is not preoccupied with social life or planning parties, Ann will spend her time doting on her husband and catching him up on the week’s events.
Artist Notes:
> Both the title of this piece and a part of Ann’s character/story was inspired by the Barlow & Bear song “Entertain Me”
> Ann’s dress is based on a dinner dress made by House of Pingat that would have been considered the cutting edge of fashion at the time (Mid to late 1870s). The dress is currently held at the Chicago Historical Museum.
> Ann and Robert live in a “modest” apartment in Paris, an arrangement made by Henry upon his father’s retirement. Ann has painstakingly adapted the flat to suit her needs as a socialite in the very heart of the fashion forward world.
> Hailing from an old money, aristocratic family with ties to France, Ann is the youngest (and arguably the least successful) of her six sisters. While her ancestral fortune had dissipated by the time of her marriage, Ann was raised with all the social graces of a lady in the early Victorian era. Ann still carries herself with the same elegance (and price tag) of those bygone days.
> Beyond her tastes in fashion, gossip, and society Ann is a rather romantic soul with a flair for the dramatic. She has a guilty pleasure in reading flighty romance novels.
(Of all the tropes from gothic literature to take into my personal projects it’s just every male protagonist who has a female love interest being extremely uxorious. As we should All Strive To Be)
This is the “I read Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus and will never recover emotionally. I loved it” moodboard, composed entirely out of reaction images that I already had saved on my phone.
