Oh did I never. Did I never post my ideas for Baby Strega AU personas (because like. I like making new personas)

Yusuke: Tantalus. (Constantly wanting what you cannot have ((genuine affection from Madarame)) also like. Food and passion as a motif and the way he conceptualizes desire)

Futaba: Despoena (bc like. Forbidden knowledge, also it works with her being able to stop Fuuka from scanning them bc info you're not supposed to know. Also may??? Possibly??? Be Persephone? Unclear we don't know that's why she fits the forbidden knowledge theme at all and also represents like being separated from her mom)

Goro: Minos (Judge of the dead, also asserts his strength by crushing his enemies? It makes sense in my head)

Question, is the thing about Yosuke dying his hair canon? Because I saw a couple times people say Yosuke, Futaba and once even Chie all have dyed hair. And. If it's true it's kinda hilarious because.

Blue hair.

Naoto, Yusuke, maybe Mishima, P3 male protagonist, Fuuka, that one goth guy in P2, all have blue hair.

And sure, goth guy and protag Could have dyed their hair, even if protag is unlikely because the dialogue in PQ when he talks about uncovering his eye somewhat implies he is too lazy to style his hair and just lets it do whatever.

Even Fuuka might have dyed hers but she just doesn't give off the Vibe.

But Naoto? Yusuke? Naoto would Not Have Risked walking into the police station with dyed hair in a thousand years, much less such an unnatural color. And Yusuke's hair color is consistent through the story even though Madarame would have never wasted money on hair products for him so the color is most likely natural.

Mishima had probably a lot more to worry about than his hair.

You could say it's just a stand-in for black hair but Persona has characters with black hair(making it kinda pointless to replace it with blue) and Fuuka's is so aquamarine it looks green.

So. This would mean that blue is. A natural hair color in the Persona universe.

You could argue that people with lighter hair colors are rare in Japan because it's a whole Thing with Ann, and Ryuji does dye his, but Haru and Akechi have very much brown hair and they too seem super unlikely to dye it.

It would make sense for Yosuke to dye his hair, it sounds like something he would do, but I just find it really funny that of all the colors, he choose Brown.

Mitsuru and P3 FeMC have bright red hair, Akihiko and Souji have white/silver, a bunch of people have blue hair, and the characters that do dye it have... Brown and Blond.

Ah, yes, the Persona Universe. Where imagination comes true, butterflies are gods, TVs are portals to another dimension, the day is 25 hours long to some people, a random app you didn't download on your phone gives you the power to kill or brainwash anyone you know the name of, and blue is a natural hair color.

This stopped being about Yosuke 2 sentences in, I just wanted to share the blue hair thing with someone.

I swear I thought Yosuke dyed his hair but the more I think about it/try to look for evidence I think it's just a thing that I saw in a fic. I honestly have no idea anymore. To be fair though, it may be the case that he dyed it from one funky anime hair colour to another funky anime hair colour. Blond Yosuke, anyone?

She tends to go by Kira, and is totally the friend to give every other friend cheek kisses. Constantly. She'll wear lipstick to "mark" them all sometimes, and certain thieves like it more than others

She's big sister friend, but in like a little shit way? Will make you food and remind you to take meds or hormones but she will also tease you relentlessly about crushes or small things

Got all her nice clothes thrifting. Lots of nice skirts, belts, and she wears a choker all the time. Red with a little black heart charm. Flowy shirts, some sheer stuff- she's a fashion icon with a baby goth twist

Knows all the gossip. She's quiet so no one expects her to listen, but then she's telling it all to Futaba while they watch Featherman or play Smash

I just get the impression that Akechi is Reverie's Mean Bitch Boyfriend and everyone in the Thieves is baffled that they are going out because what the fuck does Reverie see in this guy. And all the girls are like "ooooooh. Okay."

But Akechi just speaks to Reverie on another level. So much of Reverie's life is being contained and not causing too much trouble because his probation thing, but Akechi is like a total fucking asshole and responds best when Reverie is an asshole right back, and like. Man. I get it. I really get it lmao.

Its easy to imagine Reverie hanging out with the gang and saying something just a little too Fucking Mean and they're like "did you have lunch with Akechi" and he's like ".... Oh. Yeah. Whoops. Sorry, I'll dial it back."

MEANWHILE out lil sister is having a hard time. Like, man, not to diminish the pain anyone went through because Maruki's deal, but Yusuke and Futaba and Haru in particular have it really goddamn rough and it's painful.

I love every moment that the game lets you be understanding and empathetic with Futaba.

This moment in particular should be stamped on the brain of everyone who has mental illness. Futaba tries to tell Reverie he should be mad at her, because she's angry with herself and wants to sublimate that emotion onto others. She wants him to be mad at her because then it's almost easier to deal with all of this happening. It's a situation where kindness almost hurts more than the reprimand, but kindness is still what's needed.

Anyway, Futaba pops her final persona. Glow down. I want A Dark Planet Lit By Daft Punk again. 8C It's fine, it's not terrible, the reference is neat, but also sigh.

I do like the Technomancy vibe of Futaba. The framing of her work that way is neat.

Next up is my man Yusuke and okay, one: Yusuke's winter outfit is FLY AS HELL, look at that. Look at how gorgeous that jacket is, with the ink bottle teal and the bold buttons and the skinny jeans. Amazing, truly.

Two, this room makes me want to scream. There is a cardboard box of fruit that makes me think he walked through a park and just picked stuff to eat and then decided it was all too photogenic so its set aside for a still life. The supplies on the floor, the canvases blocking his fucking storage space, this is all just pitch fucking perfect.

Love that he's a prospit dream honestly.

I'll be real, going to every Thief and having them apologize to Reverie for falling for Maruki's trick is a little bit blah, but the extra details for each is fun. The moment when Yusuke is so ashamed he won't even look at Reverie is nice and heartfelt.

LOVE THIS SENTIMENT. I love that when kindness is offered she is flat out like "Thank you but that's not what I need right now." That's powerful tbh, I love it.

HARU GETS TO SAY THE THESIS OF THE PLOTLINE OUT LOUD.

So fucking what if you put a band aid on everyone's fucking problems? New problems will arise. Do you intend to delete each and every one?

This shit reminds me of rich and powerful people who are born into it and haven't experienced hardship for the majority of their lives, so when something mildly inconvenient happens, they treat it like a federal fucking issue because they have no skills to handle anything.

Maruki's plan is to basically eviscerate everyone's personal growth in perpetuity. Like, as you walk around Shibuya and stuff, you do actually overhear people concerned about all this happiness and the lack of contrasts.

I mean, I'm a depressed poor sick queer who grew up in a trailer park. There are moments in my past that define me and they are Not Good moments. I would still not take Maruki's deal.

Maruki needed to meet Toranosuke honestly and talk about societal reform. You know Tora is one of those "what if we gave addicts places to live for free and created a UBI" people.

GLOW DOWN. There was nowhere to go but down when you have the literal best persona in the main cast. But also that Life Wall is amazing.

I overwrote Psy Amp for it. I am dedicated to my build on Haru. She walks up and its time for the Gun Show. I wish she got Akechi's Riot Gun skill, you have NO idea. She'd tear shit UP and give Myriad Truths a run for its money.

anyway here is Futaba and Ann petting Morgana. shout out to Akechi all the way in the back trying to ignore everyone.

ANYWAY we're at the end of this post and I'm gonna complain about Ryuji, feel free to peace out.

So Persona really likes having the one party member who is kind of stupid. Just... not book smart and always doing poorly in class and always missing out on vital information. It's good joke fodder, I get it.

In P4, that was Kanji and Chie, and in P3 it was Junpei. I respect and love these characters, and I have been banging my head against why I just! I just hate Ryuji! I really do! I have never disliked a persona character this much yet!

And I think the thing about Kanji and Junpei and the other Kinda Dumb characters is that they have low book smarts but they are often the most empathetic and emotionally intelligent characters in the game. Kanji was the fucking HEART of the party from the moment he joined onward, was always coming out and says profound shit, was the one who stepped up and was like "hey lets let Naoto and their shadow hash it out, we can handle the fight and this is going to help them." He was the kindest person in the party.

And Junpei, I still think that was some apex of writing, the time when Junpei was like "hey, I apologize for this thing I did to you, it was disrespectful and I'll do better." And his connection to Chidori was the rocket strapped to his arc. He was emotional and kind and he fucked up several times and he apologized for it.

Ryuji just. LACKS THAT ENTIRELY. He doesn't have that. He's not the emotional heart of the team, he struggles to be empathetic, he upsets people and gets off scott-free without an apology. He's treated like the Best Friend and its so completely unearned. I would not tell Ryuji shit about me because I have no confidence in him being cool. He is Yosuke Hanamura without the rebound, it's Joker Mode all the time.

The ball was so thoroughly dropped with Ryuji I'm kinda baffled, because Atlus is usually good at the Token Best Friend guy and making him one of the more complex characters in each game.

Maybe its because Joker himself is such a strong character that Ryuji doesn't need to act as the stand-in protagonist like Junpei and Yosuke did. Or, maybe it's because functionally Morgana fills Ryuji's role in the party instead so those emotionally intelligent moments are given to Morgana instead.

It's weird and frustrating and I am annoyed at Ryuji both in a Watsonian sense and a Doylist sense.

Okay that's enough hateration holleration in this dancery, lets do the Palace.

Adult confidants aren't my focus butttt if I can work it in, we might see a certain goth girl artist and her himbo husband as confidants.

Makoto, Akechi and Morgana are unchanged At the moment because I couldn't be bothered and this story isn't royalized so no Yoshizawa or Maruki plans in the works, I might change my mind if I find something interesting to do with them.

Hopefully in a few days I'll have enough written to share some peaks, but I do have personas picked out for all the swapped Thieves, Yusuke, Ann, Ren and Ryuji's costumes figured out with Yusuke's drawn and to be digitized.

Hamlet.

Yusuke's persona is hamlet, what else can I say? If that doesn't convince you this AU is awesome I don't know what will.

I'm also thinking of restricting Ryuji's personas to just pirates, but idk if that's a good idea.

Took an adderall at work and went fucking nuts setting up pokemon teams for all of the phantom thieves using mypokemonteam.com so here they are with my reasoning for choosing them. Long post ahead

Joker

Ditto needs no explanation. Zoroark because it can similarly cast the illusion of being another pokemon but has a core identity of its own. I gave all the OG Phantom Thieves an eeveelution and Umbreon is his. Darkrai because it deals in nightmares and is kind of freaky and spindly like Arsène. Litten because it is a little black and red cat. Marshadow because it’s a freaky little ghost guy who's also a fighting type and gets surrounded by blue flames when he’s mad

Ryuji

Dhelmise because it’s literally the ghost of a pirate ship. Jolteon for his eeveelution. Sharpedo because it’s a fucking shark torpedo. Scrafty because it’s kind of a shifty little dark-type mon with the moxie ability who’s friendly to its comrades but kind of suspiciously looked down on like a little punk bitch otherwise. Elekid because it’s like a little funky electric creature that goes 😈. Loudred because that bitch is loud

Ann

Oricorio because it’s a flamenco dancer like Carmen. Flareon eeveelution. Scorbunny because it’s an adorable bunny with lots of energy that shoots flames at people and kicks the shit out of them. Skitty because it is an adorable little pink cat whose only job is to be so cutie and I feel like Ann would be in love with it. Liepard because it’s sneaky and panther-esque. Lopunny because it gets sexualized by everybody but has a sweet and charming personality and also kicks the shit out of people

Yusuke

Hisuian Samurott because it’s literally an ancient samurai like Goemon. Alolan Ninetales because it’s an ice fox. Glaceon eeveelution because it’s also an ice fox. Froslass because she’s a little ice ghost in a kimono. Smeargle obviously. Milotic because it's "the most beautiful pokemon" and apparently an inspiration to artists all over the pokeworld

Makoto

Pancham because it’s like if Buchimaru beat the shit out of people. Miraidon because it’s a huge glowing blue motorcycle with incredible powers. Espeon because dude I was fucking running out of ideas with the eeveelution shit. Ceruledge because it’s a glowy blue ninja. Poochyena because it’s like slightly gothy but also very cute and I think Makoto would have kind of a connection to dark types. Riolu similar reasons because it beats ass but is also extremely intelligent and loyal

Futaba

Futaba's I am really happy with. 2 big fucking UFOs one of which has the "analytic" ability and the other of which is covered in green spikes. Leafeon evolution because it’s the green one. Charjabug because it’s green and electric and a little battery guy. Cofagrigus for palace reasons obviously. Swadloon because it’s green and shy and hiding.

Haru

Meowscarada because it looks like her and is also a grass type so related to her love for plants. Espurr because it’s tiny and cute and can cause massive explosions with its uncontrollable psychic powers. Sylveon because it takes so long to befriend Haru in-game and she doesn’t really flourish until you do. Medicham bc it’s psy/fighting. Jirachi bc it’s psy/steel. Tinkaton because it has a huge fucking hammer.

Akechi

Has his own Eevee that he trained independently of the group getting their evolutions. Picked it because it’s extremely common and socially acceptable. It will never evolve or take any of the paths it could have taken if it had reached out a little more. Rockruff similarly is super normie and cute but will evolve into its freaky Lycanroc Dusk Form which is kind of goth and uncontrollable and frequently canonically causes Rockruff to be abandoned by trainers. Corvisquire because it’s a crow but it’s like a mid-level crow so less suspicious than a huge terrifying Corviknight. Alolan Marowak because it’s got blue flames bursting around it and it’s wearing the skull of its dead mother and fights with one of her bones. Mega Banette because it’s insane and looks like Loki and is also a ghost type which I just like for him. Also sorry but it's literally the wailing ghost of a child's toy that was thrown away and is powered through solely by its rage at being abandoned and is willing to harm itself to harm others. FINALLY Hisuian Zoroark which is also a ghost type and the mirror image of Joker’s regular Zoroark. Has the wildcard-esque Illusion ability just like regular Zoroark.

Sumire

Pirouette form Meloetta because it’s surprisingly strong and kind of balletic/gymnast-y. Vulpix because it’s cute and looks like her. Cherrim for her third semester personality after gaining her identity back which I think would be in its cherry-blossom sunshine form for most of the regular game while she's being "Kasumi." Mimikyu also for obivous Royal reasons. Mega Audino because it’s cute but weirdly strong for a normal type, can hear everything and understand people very well. Kirlia because it’s also kind of gymnast-y and is stronger than it looks.

i like to hc that joker doesn't like... gross personas call it a side effect of him being a cat and wanting to clean like the first time he had to accept a mara the phantom thieves could psyhically see him look sick it just feels so wrong!

OH interesting...i actually imagine akira as a very neat person, like his space MUST be kept tidy at all times and he takes care in his appearance to always look clean. mess just. makes him insane and he can't stand it!! i mean he has so many moments in game that point to this - he comments on how the bathrooms are gross at shujin, he doesn't want to do pull-ups because the rafters are dusty, he cleans up futaba's room...and just the COMMENTS he makes on his friends' rooms in p5d lol i think it's safe to say akira has a certain level of cleanliness he needs to function well and he's definitely the person you can't leave alone in a room unless you want him to organize it behind your back. THAT BEING SAID...mara was actually in my roster in vanilla p5 lol (i had to boot it in p5r bc its inheritance changed???) but again we've gone over how i think of akira as a serious goth and anything edgy/demonic is his favorite (plus he loves how everyone groans each time he pulls out something like mara. but now i'm thinking his friends being like "how can you STAND that nasty thing all you do is clean!!!" and he's like "i've committed to the bit"
