the 2023 reissue of the beatles’ red album is out as of midnight last night. the glow up that Love Me Do got has me very excited to hear what this new separation tech can do to their earliest songs. i’ve long been annoyed with the old stereo mixes for their 1963 songs and typically force them to mono to avoid feeling lopsided hearing vocals in one ear and not the other. my father doesn’t even acknowledge that the stereo mixes exist and still clings to his original mono versions. i can’t blame him as i always favor the live versions over these mixes. but i heard they were adding more 1963 songs for this reissue, and in a fit of blind belief from the Love Me Do reveal, i broke down and preordered a copy. will i regret my purchase?
so here’s my first reactions to the 1963 tracks (first 10 after Love Me Do):
Please Please Me 🤔🤔🤔
hmm, my first thought is that it may be a bit too much separation? there was already quite a lot in the 2009 album version, but i don’t care for how much echo is on that one. i think this fixes the echo for me, so along with the stereo fix i’m counting it as an improvement. next to the 2009 mono mix, this one lifts the vocals slightly to hear each part better. i still like the live versions of the song best as it’s just the kind of song (proto garage rock?) that sounds best a bit dirtied up. i love hearing john’s half laugh so clearly at 1:33 after the lyrics flub, but the drums are the highlight for me. man, ringo was a force of nature on this track.

i legit screamed. this is an experience. giles bringing his dad’s initial idea for the first album to life? there’s so much space here, it sounds like you’re in the middle of the cavern! along with the stereo fix, the echo on the handclaps that distracts from rest of the song is gone.
Twist and Shout 🎯🎯🎯
not too much of a change, just the right little tweaks here to elevate the clarity of each part. george’s guitar never sounded better. the clarity of john’s vocals is so wild i swear you can hear him spit. this mix is worthy of the song john ripped his throat out for. excellent addition.

gosh, john and paul’s vocals are so crystal clear. more dimension than the old mono version. the harmonica ending 😘

i don’t hear a clear difference on this. it’s still a bit fuzzy and flattened. maybe the drums are a bit clearer with more dimension, and bass slightly more upfront. the vocals sound especially fuzzy though, perhaps because they didn’t have the original master copy to work with. that was also the case with Love Me Do and its quality had me hoping they could CPR this one too but alas. i think the past masters 2009 version is better than this.

it’s incredible how much different the balance sound makes. paul sounds so much clearer now. stereo fix aside, it doesn’t sound too much different until the backing vocals and george’s guitar solo. the last bass note sounds incredible.

this reissue fixes the main problem with the original red album: the lack of george songs. the original didn’t have covers but the additions here make this one feel like it belongs. i hear a bit of fuzz in the opening, but it clears up quick. listen to that guitar go! the 9 yo in me is dancing like a fiend over this. i never heard the handclaps so well. everything sounds more distinct, vocals, bass, drums, in a way you can appreciate each part but without feeling too intrusive. also an excellent last note.

vocals in both ears!!! just the biggest dumb grin on my face. crystal clear the whole way through, but especially on the climax. whew. that start-stop ending has never hit harder.
overall, i am delighted. even if all the rest of the mixes are crap, this new version is still worth it for the fixes to the 1963 songs. for me, the glow ups for This Boy and You Really Got A Hold On Me alone are worth the sticker price. it was an excellent decision to include covers. a wonderful way to celebrate 60 years.

I gave into temptation and liked and retweeted The Boys S4 promo posters, etc 😔 this doesn’t help the recommended period of inactivity where Twitter unshadowbans your account but what’s one more week of inactivity there?
At this point, it’s already been two times X has put my account on Search Suggestion Ban immediately again after retweeting/ liking/ or posting something 😑 I have accepted my fate. At the very least for logged in users, you can access the threadfics so that’s the silver lining. I’ve also seen people liking, commenting, and retweeting some of my things there which makes me happy because supposedly engagement will help. I’m in the process of looking for more accounts to follow since that apparently also plays into the Twt AI deciding if I’m a spam bot account.
I’m gonna give it one more week of inactivity to see just in case the last search suggestion ban does lift again (🙄). But I have pretty much accepted my fate that my account is probably gonna be forever Search Suggestion Banned. You’ll just have to log in to be able to see my content there.
We’re gonna do one more test where I’m gonna tweet Part III of the Sugar Baby AU threadfic (likely 25-50 tweets update)—and see if that lands me in hot water again. If it doesn’t, good; we’ll continue as usual. If not, whelp, “porting to AO3 time as part of a series earlier than I’d planned to” we go.
Expect the threadfic update^ sometime around the week of 11/17-11/26.
Lastly, the next work of mine to be updated will be Truce ch3. I’m gonna spend maybe 1 more week or 2 of my writing break to catch up on reading a fellow writer friend’s work as a lil comment exchange we promised each other (you know who you are 🥰) and maybe 1 other writer’s work if they publish their last chapter within this period of time (you also know who you are 😘), but after my break is over I’ll resume writing Truce. Sneak peeks will be posted here & twitter.
I think I have PTSD from the page count from the previous chapter /hj. It’s just something about writing in Billy’s POV that makes me unintentionally write longer than expected (he’s toppled Luo Binghe’s crown of the ML Who’s Made This Author Spit Blood at the Final Pagecount Just Because the Chapter is in His POV). And ch3, surprise surprise, is gonna be in Billy’s POV again. It’s also literally my favorite chapter because we have an Outerspace “Date” (it’s a satire of Superman/ Lois Lane; this scene may or may not also be illustrated depending on my mood), a chapter illustration for the official NS/FW First Time Together for our lads, and the “twist” with the bombastic ending of ch3 where Billy joins the Seven.
My hope is that Truce remains 4 chapters only—but it depends on the final pagecount per chapter. *knocks on wood 3x*
I’m gonna try to update ch3 by the time the Christmas holiday rolls around, if not then it’s the New Year like we had for the previous chapter. The reason being: I have two new scenes that have to be added to ch3 and I’m putting in perhaps a couple kernels of S4 things. If I can keep Part II to below 113 pages, it will be a gosh darn miracle—but we’re gonna try. I’ll keep y’all updated on the status, especially when I start writing again.

I am sorry to leave you hanging high and dry! Things have been a lot at work, and when I get stressed out I tend to hyperfixate in a really bad way on very small things — lots of endless worrying, lots of circular thoughts, lots of self doubt. Whenever that happens (as it does from time to time) I always just pull myself off social media, because I think it makes it a thousand times worse.
I also felt the pressure of keeping up with the dash, which doesn’t work when you’re at work for 10+ hours a day, raising small children, trying to maintain a house, beta reading, etc — so I thought maybe I should just take a little break.
I would set a queue for those times, but they often come by surprise for me and I just delete the app for a couple of weeks, until I’m feeling better/more caught up.
Now I am! 😌 So you’re being rewarded with filth! 🥰

Oh gosh, this is a tough one! I’d probably have to say ‘Springtime on Jupiter’ - it started out as a run of the mill garashir fic, but over the course of writing it I discovered that I don’t actually like that ship that much. Or rather, I realised that I was just projecting what I like to see in a ship onto them rather than drawing on what makes them interesting from the source material. That just resulted in me writing a whole host of fics that I don’t really like anymore because Garak is so wildly out of character. Writing ‘Springtime on Jupiter’ helped me realise that, I think.
(Also the reaction to the final chapter of that fic was the nail in the coffin of my career as a garashir girlie, good grief some of those comments were half the reason I took a break from tumblr for a bit because they made me feel like such shit)

Sisko my absolute beloved! One of my favourite headcanons about him is something that’s come up in my conversations with @nerdy-flower - that being whenever Sisko goes home to visit his family, he spends the whole time sitting there like 😑 while his family lovingly roasts the absolute shit out of him. I didn’t feel like doing anything today but still made myself come to my lab for the microscopy time I booked since it’s super crowded and I can’t try to change timings or make it up later…

Why is time moving this fast?
I didn’t get much done in terms of studying today but got much lab work done, setup for the genetic crosses for the week and made sure I did all I can so I can stay home guilt free tomorrow and go in on Sunday instead.
Even took time to go see my prof today and phew, I can see a tonne of work brewing up for this weekend!
The trick I need to master here is to hit the bed right now and make sure I wake up at a normal morning time tomo, eat healthy and NOT be intimidated by the lots of tasks… just gotta… bunch it all up into smaller tasks and get going and finish it!!
Just trying to get the courage to work smart and hard in the next few days, but I will be fine. I have to!!

My #1 post of 2022
Hey I found the #studychallengewithcleo by @that-premed-student and decided to go for it!
Today I’m continuing to work on my Thesis committee meeting presentation right now. Been at it since morning and I’m sure I crossed the 6 hour mark a while back haha
I’m definitely taking breaks in between, and eating food and drinking water/beverages (do be kind to yourself and take care of yourself even if you are stressed)
So currently my work for today is:
Finish analysing my final dataset
Include those graphs on my ppt
Finish including all the info from the tagged papers on my ppt
Make a script and read it 3-5 times before retiring for the night
And ofc overthinking and writing down any Qs I could be asked in that meeting tomorrow and looking up and keeping track of those answers separately.
I think my list is doable… I am hoping my presentation tomorrow goes amazingly well and my committee members greenlit me for my final semester without any issues.

some things that happened at work today :
- had a an older member kinda flirt with me and hit on me and make lots of comments about how i’m beautiful and how if i have a guy, he probably doesn’t really appreciate me or really know how good he has it. and then he started rambling about that being the same thing with girls sometimes…? it didn’t make sense to me lol. but yeah. he commented on my hair a few times (nothing bad but just talked about my hair color and why i changed it) and then started talking about how people shouldn’t have to change themselves. they should just be who they are and be proud of it.
- he made comments about how he’s at least twice my age and if he were younger and a different race, he would definitely ask me out… 😳 he made comments about me being a beautiful young woman (multiple times. every single time in my head i would say to myself “not a woman” like janet from the good place 😅)
- when he was talking about people changing themselves, he was going on about young kids and how they don’t know how to be themselves and how they just need to be okay with who they are. and then he started talking about, and i quote, “gay people”. those were the words he used. he tried to say lgbtq community but couldn’t remember all the letters… it was awkward, ngl…
so there’s some more stuff that happened today (and more stuff that happened with the member i was talking about) under the cut if anyone wants to read more 😅
i figure i wrote a lot and i’d out it under the cut incase anyone just wants to scroll by and then so they don’t have to scroll past all of the stuff i wrote 😅
- he said gay people should just be who they are and love who they love. (not bad, thought he was going to surprise me more and this conversation was going to take a turn for the better… again, thought… that’s the key word there.) then he started going on and on about how people just need to be who they are. he was saying like how transgender people need to just be who they were born as. and talked about gender and how he’s a man and he feels like a man and if you’re a man but you feel like you are a woman, you should just date or sleep with women… 😐😑 and he said the same about women with men… because yeah you know, that’s definitely how it works with people 🤦♀️ uuuugh, some people! i swear!
- had a different member change the amount he wanted for something not once but three times on me and tell me the first two times that i got it wrong. and he said the second time and i quote “how’re you still getting this wrong. it’s not that hard”. he said in a very annoyed tone and talked to me like i’m stupid.
- so my supervisor came over and she helped me get everything sorted and after that and the member walked away, she looked at me and goes “well he was very grumpy, gosh!” and i explained to her how he changed the amount twice before she came over and how he got frustrated with me and was rude to me.
- i had a few members (all older guys, btw.) recount the money i just counted for them, out loud and counted multiple times before counting it back to them and giving it to them… i counted it correctly every time! i mean there were even some people today who didn’t even do that when i had messed up a little when counting it back to them (in my head sometimes i’ll count it back the way i count it when i am putting the amounts in my computer and forget to count it back like normal 😅🤦♀️ i was a little out of it today 😓). they just said it was okay when i apologized and offered to recount it and they said it was alright, they were counting with me and it was okay. they knew it was the correct amount and it was all good. like even when i messed up a little bit, they understood! but these guy who don’t seem to trust me even though i counted right three times before counting it back to them seriously felt the need to count it themselves to make sure it was correct?! UUUUGH!! 😤 (it’s not just men who do it, btw. but more often than not, it is.)
- ended up having a member who i went to high school with and did the plays and musicals with my senior year of high school! (they may have been apart of crew for the spring musical my junior year but i can’t remember for sure at the moment)
- we got to talking for a minute and the whole interaction/conversation we had started out with them complimenting one of my new tattoos ☺️ and then asking where i went to get it done. and then finding out they went to the same place for one of their tattoos! (we had different artists but i knew the artist who did their tattoo they showed me 😄) and then i told them about how a few of the artists from that specific shop actually just opened up their own shop not too far from my work and they said they would for sure check it out 😊 so that was nice.
-and they had mentioned where they work and i found out that it’s a shop my brother and sister-in-law have gone to quite a bit recently cause it right by where the musical they were apart of/my brother was in! i mentioned it to the member and they recognized the name of the show they did and idk i just thought that was cool 😊 and they told me i should stop by there sometime! and i for sure will cause they work at a like rock and crystal shop and just- yes!! 🖤
- and i got complimented a few times today by a few different members on my hair color 😅 one of the members told me not to change it at all, it’s look great and so cool as it is (even though it has faded aaaaaa-lot lmao. and there’s like barely any pink left. and it’s only pink because the red has faded so much lol but anyway). she had said it was beautiful and said all i would need to do is straighten my hair and it would look fantastic 😅 now i know she didn’t mean that to sound like rude or mean or anything lol but it was kinda like “ooh, ouch. okay then” 😄 for a second. but i get it, my hair was/is kinda frizzy and wavy cause i let my hair dry naturally after i showered this morning. i don’t like using heat on my hair when it’s wet and when i blow dry it, my hair frizzes even more and i’m just a big puff ball 🤦♀️ but anyway 😅 it still was sweet of her to mentioned she liked my hair and that’s what i’m trying to focus on lol.
there were a few more things that happened today that were kinda interesting but idk if it’s really worth like mentioning or talking about it right now, you know? so i’ll just leave all of this as it is and leave it all at that lol.
