I think someday I'll do a post where I'll explain in detail why I think the "good omens" sound and music department deserve a raise because they did an amazing job.

For now, I'll just focus on a little moment: Aziraphale with the quartermaster in Heaven.

First of all, I think the echo really gives the idea the Heaven is big but empty, "cold" and "impersonal". It creeped me out the first time I heard that.

But what it makes me giggle every time is the use of a specific instrument while Aziraphale realize how to come back on Earth, just possessing humans like demons do (1:46 and 1:51 from the video I linked above).

It's a harp.

A damn harp.

An harp: an instrument that is almost always associated with heaven and angels.

Even the books recognise we associate harps* with that (even if it's not true):

“But it won’t be as interesting. Look, you know I’m right. You’d be as happy with a harp as I’d be with a pitchfork.”

“You know we don’t play harps.”

“And we don’t use pitchforks. I was being rhetorical.”

And here, instead, is associated with a "demonic" shenanigan.

I think they're doing also harp glissando but, since I am completely tone deaf, I am not sure if it's a upwards glissando (from lower note to a higher one) or a downwards one (the opposite one).

[I tried to look at this video but, even Christy-Lyn is really good at explain, I couldn't make up my mind]

My (probably wrong) opinion is that they're doing a upwards glissando in the first time (Aziraphale has a bright idea) and a downwards one for the second "let's do how demons do").

If you know something, please correct me!

It's just a little sound but I think it enhances what is happening! 🎼🎶🎵🎶✨

*I think angels are more depicted with lyres (or Cithara?) than harps, but everyone call them harps (I am having "emperor's new grooves" flashbacks 😂).

This is my Google search with "angel harp":

Only one angel with an harp in his hands in the first six results (and there is a pipe organ(?) too 🤣 ).

I know that trumpets are also used but they're more associated with triumph or announcement/proclamation).

I listened to half of soundtrack from season two, on my way to work, and it's brilliant, but then I ended up listening to "The End?" on a loop anyway. 😭😭 I've been waiting for that one the most.

Something I wanted to point out, that I didn't realized before, about the titles them. I love how they blended together a more classical Azi's version with Crowley's witch includes classical guitar and is more modern It's a small but a nice touch, that they're on the same side now and closer than ever.

CHAPTER 1: THE ARRIVAL - Retired angel Aziraphale and retired demon Crowley's lives are upended when a visitor arrives on the doorstep of Aziraphale's bookshop, bringing chaos. Local shopkeepers Maggie and Nina get locked in to Nina's coffee shop when Crowley loses his temper. Heaven and Hell are suspicious, and Crowley and Aziraphale have a disagreement.

The couple's visit to Edinburgh in 1827 involves graverobbery, a statue and an unfortunate encounter with a vial of laudanum. In the present, Crowley is in charge of the bookshop, and is disappointed by human beings and the weather.

In 1941 Crowley and Aziraphale encounter some surprising adversaries, old and new, as the Nazi spies who almost entrapped Aziraphale return as zombies from the dead, intent on preventing him from attempting a bullet catch on the West End stage.

Crowley and Aziraphale get to the bottom of the mystery of the Matchbox. The Metatron brings an oat milk latte, along with a final offer.

On a more like. srs note though the fact the pieces merge for this season absolutely destroys me bc. Holy shit. and the album art. how crowley protects aziraphale with his wing infront of him and aziraphale is still slightly pulling away like . holy shit. GENIUS!!!! GENIUS!!!! GENIUS!! adding the orchestral elements from the first season opening song that clearly represents aziraphale, mixing it with first season ending song thats CLEARLY crowleys theme with its heavy rock and metal(?)(not too sure on the metal bit unfortunately since ive never looked too closely at its components) and then MIXING THOSE TO CREATE THE SEASON TWO INTRO.
