In December 2020, my grandfather was in assisted living. I pulled out my journal writings from my grandparents and started compiling. I asked my grandfather questions right up until he passed in February 2021. My grandmother and I had calls with family members for more stories. I visited cousins and scanned photos and took photos of family items. What emerged was this book and how the gold rush in California captivated my ancestors and created us. It was finally self-published in October, the month my grandmother passed.
