“The Most Level Sunken Chapel” - Fineliner on paper

I finally finished the big, detailed Kar’niss piece!!! It took me two whole days but I got there eventually. Calling this one “The Most Level Sunken Chapel” since it’s based on the lyrics of ‘Black Milk’ by Massive Attack (because I think those lyrics are what’s going through Kar’niss’ head the first time my ranger plants one on him and their brains connect). Also included moonflowers in the border because in my headcanon, these are what Tam’lin associates with Kar’niss.

My Tav is a gloomstalker ranger and a szarkai drow named Tam’lin. He was raised in Menzoberranzan to be ‘planted’ on the surface as a spy and an assassin, but he legged it at the first opportunity and used his ‘training’ to become a folk hero named ‘The Nightwatchman’. He’s got a soft spot for the outcasts and downtrodden, and thus fits right in with the other party members. 🕷️🖤🕸️

Akylla Devarossi- Dhampir Ranger/Rogue

Ahh! She’s done! I had so much fun with this piece once I got into the coloring and lighting. Also much happier with my lining with the new brushes I’ve been reccomend and have now modified. It made fitting in all the details so much easier and nicer. Realizing the benefits of multiple layers of lighting and shadow stacked on each other and blended has been huge for me, and also trying to be more sparing with bounce and rim lighting. A pleasure to do and I’m stoked with the results.

Most of my pieces like this are coming out to about 5-6 hours of work. And while some of that is futzing- putting things in and taking them out, and I’m working on bringing that down faster, I’m not displeased.

Only more more character before I’m done with with the Eldritch Soul Crew!

Now that I'm at 190+ hours into the game...

Here's a picture of my ugly Tav rendered on an outdated graphics card taken with an old cell phone. Its a holy trinity of crappy visuals! I know I could just fix the leathery old rock star face and eye bags and purple lipstick with the magic mirror since they were sort of an accident but I've come to love my elderly son who has every skin disease.

I think he had mummy rot when he was a kid or something… And he's a Wood Elf with blue hair because his father was a Moon Elf.

naven tlin'orzza - pt I

prompts from here. part one of... however many it takes me to finish pff.

1. If your character wasn’t an adventurer, what livelihood would they lead?

If he'd never left home, he would probably still be in the survey corps for his house. He was fond of the exploratory nature of it all, discovering new places never before touched by drow.

2. Who in the party would your character trust the most with their life?

Hmmm. At first, probably Wyll. Gale, close second; only thing Naven would doubt would be his strength. Post-romance, however, he absolutely places complete trust in Astarion, for better or worse.

3. What are your character’s core moral beliefs?

Complicated. He was a Seldarine born in the slums of an Underdark city, to two poor parents, and felt worlds away from the politics and ruthlessness of the upper class. But they could never be entirely unaffected by their brutal environment. He always knew what was expected of them, of him, his brother, his baby sister. He was to serve as a cog in the machine, alongside his brother, while his sister would be destined for greatness. And he willingly dedicated himself to achieving success for the sake of his parents, and ensure his siblings reached even greater heights.

So I think it's fair to say his core moral beliefs tend to... rely on the needs of others. His family, loved ones, the poor and unfortunate, and society at large... What's right to him is whatever brings the most prosperity to the largest collective, from the most clinical perspective. However, if push really comes to shove and he's given the choice between a single person he cares about and a hundred strangers... he'd choose the single person, without thought.

4. What relationship does your character have with their parents and siblings?

Also complicated. He adores them, for his part. He never wanted anything more than he wanted his parents to look upon him with pride. But his mother, Navena, never expected much of him, between his disposition and an illness that affected him from a young age. His father Varius died before his sister was born, but his memories of him were enough for him to want to become a ranger like he was.

His younger brother, Drinn, he would do everything in his power to protect. His sister Lillis is more of a rival, but purely recreational. At least... it used to be.

5. Does your character have any biases for or against certain races?

Honestly, his greatest bias is against his own people. Even with the Seldarine, or the other types of drow, it's hard for him to believe they'll ever really be better than those he witnessed growing up.

6. What is your character’s opinion on nobility? On authority?

Authority is only as good as the person using it. Authority and responsibility are attached at the hip and anyone who uses the former without the latter deserves to be cut down. And there are a looooot of nobles who fall under that category.

7. Describe your character’s current appearance: clothes, armor, scars they’ve picked up along the journey, etc.

At 5'7", he has a slight, elegant stature that belies his agility and speed. He has dark purple skin smattered in white freckles that are bioluminescent in pitch darkness. He keeps his silver hair up in a tight, braided tail most days, for practicality. His milky white eyes are always brightened by cloudy black makeup. He wears the leather armor of the drow and carries both a bow and (hopefully) a warpick.

His only major scar is an 18" laceration from his left pec to the ribs under his arm - a gift from his sister the last time he saw her.

8. What location encountered in the campaign has your character felt the most “at home” in, or just generally liked the most?

Haven't finished all of early access yet, but I think despite himself, he does immediately feel at home in the Underdark. The ceiling overhead, the familiar terrain, the glow of the fungi. There's a beauty to it that only the night sky on the clearest night in the overland can compare to.

9. What deity, if any, does your character worship? What’s their opinion on other people’s worship?

He didn't. Not at first. But in his lowest moments, locked in the deepest prison of Menzoberranzan for his crimes, mad with grief, he was part of a troupe of prisoners tasked with excavating an ancient city he himself had helped locate before he fell from grace. It was there, in those ruins, he came to know the King in Yellow. And embrace the madness of the play that is life. Such existential truths did not frighten him; in fact, they brought him comfort when he felt like a pebble in an endless, raging sea.

As for others, he believes people have a right to believe what they choose. So long as it's not actively and intentionally harming others.

10. If your character had time to pick up any artisan’s tools, game set, instrument, etc., what would it be?

He actually loves music and performance in general. Art, to him, is something that transcends anything else the mortal world preoccupies itself with. It's the closest thing the material plane has to proof of the soul. Not many had time or hope enough for such things among his people. But if he had to choose one, he'd love to write scripts. Put on performances that would strike to peoples' hearts. Make them leave the theater hall with much to ponder.

The very definition of 'looks like he could kill you but is a cinnamon roll'. Well. I mean... He means well but sometimes says things which are a little harsh. Also don't touch Scratch. Or Kar'niss. Or anybody he's well acquainted with. The Szarkai is always watching.

But gods forbid you lay a finger on Tam'lin. Then you'll have dear cousin Minthara to worry about. Only she's allowed to bully him.
