✨ glasses-wearing blorbos tournament ✨
Hello and welcome to the glasses blorbos tournament poll!! Where we will find out which spectacled character reigns supreme over the rest (but not in a mean-spirited way, because we love peace and love) (the losers will all DIE, badly).
We will be determining how the bracket is seeded (randomized or not, etc.) from YOUR guys' opinions! we'll start asking once the submissions close.
Once the poll starts, we encourage asks, replies, tags, posts, etc. with propaganda for your faves!!
you can start submitting your glasses-wearing blorbos NOW here!: link to the google form. but please read the rules below first.
rules:
be nice to your fellow real, living, breathing people.
no terfs no bigots no bitches
submit only via the form linked above; submissions via ask will not be accepted. only use the asks for questions, propaganda, and to be super nice to us
there is no deadline for the submissions yet. we will see when we close them once we start to get submissions, so please submit!
don't submit the same character more than once, but do make several submissions for several different characters if you so wish. you know how it goes.
in principle, we will only be accepting submissions for characters who wear glasses, NOT contacts, for like at least about 50% of their screentime. but it doesn't mean nobody else will be accepted! characters who wear them very rarely, wear a monocle, or have some other weird thing going on that we can't even imagine right now will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
keep in mind we are two people who don't know every piece of media in the world, and we can't spend all of our time doing research!! for this reason, try to provide evidence if it needs to be provided!
the criteria for who the superior glasses-wearer is up to you: do they represent the SPIRIT of glasses-wearing better? are they more iconic for the fact of wearing glasses than the other one? do they wear their glasses BETTER? or are they just your FAVORITE out of the two?!?! doesn't matter. but we're thinking it's mostly about the latter.
There are some characters we will be including by default because at least One of us Likes them (Velma Scooby Doo, Alphys Undertale, Berdly Deltarune, Kim Kitsuragi from Disco Elysium, Teru Mikami from Death Note... maybe more...)
mods:
yo! i'm glitz, i'm also @thesoupisburning and i'm here because i wear glasses and think everyone should know ! i'll be doing most of the mathy stuff and also if you say anythin mean to us, you're saying something mean to rat and i WILL come for you. heart :} use any and all pronouns for me or check my carrd via my main. i am very friendly and love attention so please. please interact. also im opinionated and super sexy trust me bro <3
hi I'm @ratbefriender she/her you can call me Rat and it all started when I was approximately 7 years old and I wore glasses to school for the first time. when my classmates started asking me how many fingers they were holding up, I knew I had to fight the good fight for our brave spectacled blorbos, despite the word blorbos not existing yet. anyway: we're just having fun <3 be nice to us. peace and love.

Canonically Jewish Character Tournament
hey! it's me, runner of @shittycartoondadshowdown, @shittycartoonmomshowdown, and @nepobabyshowdown. i'm here with another tournament for characters who are CANONICALLY jewish.
rules:
obviously, the character has to be confirmed jewish. doesn’t matter which parent they got it from, doesn’t matter if they converted—if they’re jewish, they’re jewish.
if the character's judaism is only confirmed in a statement by the creator outside of the source itself, then i'll make a poll on whether they should qualify.
ditto for if the only proof we get is, for lack of a better word, non-substantial (like, say, the character goes to her niece's wedding and all the men are wearing kippahs and there's a canopy and they step on a glass but it's unclear whether the niece is jewish or if her husband-to-be is, or if they both are). but if i know the character well enough i may just decide on my own
the obligatory "submit as many characters as you want but only submit each character once"
fictional characters only
will probably cap at 32 characters, but ultimately it depends on the number of submissions
nobody's included automatically! submit jewish blorbos both well-known and obscure!
submissions will be open until may 5
please, for the love of god, no homestuck.
inspired in large part by @nicejewishcharactershowdown, and here's a few other cool blogs you should follow: @bestinshowbracket @indigenous-character-tournament @blackcharactertournament @ultimateheadcanontournament @bluehairandpronouns-tournament @fatherfigurefistfight @latine-showdown

Controversial Character Tournament Round 2: Kristoph Gavin from Ace Attorney vs Tom Paris from Star Trek: Voyager
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(remember that these characters are fictional and your fellow tumblr users are real. i will block you if you harass others in the notes, please consider sending your unhinged harassment to my inbox instead)
Propaganda under the cut, may contain spoilers:
Kristoph Gavin:
LOVE: - "[Major apollo justice spoilers] Listen listen listen, you ever just, commission fake evidence someone will slip the defense just so you can tip off your brother (the prosecution) so you can get that defense attorney disbarred? Dyou ever then just spend 7 years being that guys best friend, confidant and dinner buddy??? To the point where when you kill his daughters birth father you're his defense but you're secretly trying to fail. And dyou leave the fans wondering if this was 4D chess to ruin the man he accidentally got obssessed with or because the poisoning he orchestrated years prior was SO well done he never got found out and he kinda wants credit for it??? Anyways. You ever think about how he's got a skull shaped scar on his hand that never gets explained, or that he has connections to TWO of the main characters, nay THREE, BUT THIS NEVER GETS EXPLORED BCUZ THE GAME JUST DOESNT HAVE THAT MUCH STORAGE???? He's undoubtedly a fucked up little fancy man, and ace attorney fans either don't care about him or Hate him or Love him or love to hate him." HATE: - "Ruined the life of MY blorbo (Phoenix Wright) 👎👎👎 Also literally just evil for no reason. Wakes up every day and decided to be the worst version of himself. I can respect the choice to wear nail polish tho. I hate him but a lot of people in the fandom like him (carnally) so whatever" - "Gosh I hate this man so much but it's so much fun to do it. Ruined at least one life and killed at least three people because...idk egotistical control freak? Then proceeded to hang around the guy whose life he ruined like a weird psychological experiment for 7 years before deciding to frame him for murder. Look at those smug glasses. I hate him"
Tom Paris:
HATE: - "he's a whiny little nepo baby that's finally facing serious repercussions and then circumstances make him be the pilot of the ship. and he doesn't deserve b'elanna. also he has weird lizard babies with the captain one episode. yuck."

I hope it's alright to ask you this but,, what's the difference between being christian and being catholic? (If there is a difference ofc) I hope I'm not being rude or anything, but I know nothing about what qualifies as what since I'm not religious myself, and I don't want to accidentally submit someone who doesn't fit the qualifications
hi friend. I got this ask and posted this on my discord and instantly it was "several people typing..."

All Catholics are Christian but not all Christians are Catholics (just like all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares). Super dupe quick history less from a non-historian, there was one church, then there was drama between the East and West resulting in the East–West Schism, break of communion between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches in 1054. Then, Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation in 1517. And then the King of England left the Catholic Church and started his own thing because he wanted a divorce.
For this tournament, I'm allowing Orthodox Christians in because it can be hard to tell if blorbo is Catholic or Orthodox. Aesthetically and culturally, we're very similar. Churches look very similar, the priest all wear fancy dresses, and both have saints and revere The Virgin Mary. I also didn't want to exclude Arab/Middle Eastern and Eastern European Christians.
If you don't know what denomination your blorbos is and if they count:
do they pray to Virgin Mary or saints?
have rosaries? (not just the cross pendant. Needs to have beads)
Are they from a predominantly Catholic country/or have ancestors from a Catholic country(Ireland, Italy, Spain, France, Latin America, Philippines, etc.) or is Catholicism the most common denomination of Christianity? (Thailand, Vietnam. etc)
Do they go to church? Does their church look like a cathedral? Stained glass, candles, incense? Does their priest wear a fancy-looking robe?
if you don't know any of the above, does the character's arc deal with themes about guilt, forgiveness, dignity, and redemptions. Would other people agree with your headcanon?
are they working class?
(Generally, it's they're of English/Northern European ancestry/origin, they're probably not Catholic. And if their preacher has a guitar, they're definitely not catholic XD)
If your blorbo is from a fictional fantasy world:
does the religion pray to a God/Goddess and saints?
does it looks like a catholic church? (Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda are good examples)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is the church tied with the monarchy/government?
Priest, monk, friars, or nuns?

Round 1, Bracket 2/16 begins now!
Fun facts about Fenris (Dragon Age 2): Can phase through solid objects and uses this power to regularly rip out the hearts of slavers and his enemies. Giggles when he is flirted with. Fun facts about Jin (Samurai Champloo): A quiet, stoic swordsmen who killed his own master after he betrayed him. Wears fake, anachronistic glasses for no apparent reason.
"What is the criteria?" It's whatever you want it to be. They're all MY blorbos, but you can vote for your own blorbo; whoever has the best style or hair; whoever you think swims the best or eats eggs the fastest; whatever.
"I'll just vote for my favorites and then skip the other polls if I don't recognize anyone." Please participate in every poll you happen to see. Really!
"But I don't recognize/am sick of seeing some of these people." You are welcome, nay, strongly encouraged, to participate if/when you do not know any of the contestants. Pick whomever's design or name or vibe you like the most or flip a coin. I also encourage spite-voting AGAINST ones you dislike. I want this tournament to be as chaotic and petty as possible.
"I don't know you. You're just some stranger I found in the search/tags." Perfect. Please vote.

Pardon my ignorance but if I may ask, how does one differentiate Catholicism from other sects of Christianity for the purposes is this tournament? As someone raised religious but not catholic specifically I do not quite understand the lines and want to know before submitting characters.
My friend... I did so many google search about the eastern orthodox church and the oriental orthodox church and omg. It wouldn't be catholism without fighting haha
The rule was in communion with Rome meaning from a sec that could receive the eucharist at a Roman Catholic Church. However, I think it's a bit too complicated since it's hard to know if Sophie from Mama Mia is Greek Orthodox or Greek Byzantine Catholic. When there are too many rules it's not that fun (East–West Schism </3) I'm just going to say that if the blorbo is orthodox they're allowed.
If your character is/implied to be Christian (and not canonically another religion) and from the Middle East, Ethiopia, Eastern Europe, or India(or a fictional country that resembles these countries), then it's fine.
Tumblr media
If a character is sometimes protestant and something catholic, I think Steve Rogers has been written as both, then that's fine. I want to try to avoid actual Protestants though. So no Rue from Euphoria or Sheldon's mom from The Big Bang Theory or Ned Flanders from the Simpson. If you're not sure, I would use geographical, time period and blorbo's ethnicity for context clues. White Southern Lady with the last name Jones? Probably Protestant. Some dude from 1940s Chicago with the last name Kowalski. Probably Catholic.
TLDR: if their church has stain glass or bones and their priest wears a fancy dress, then go for it!
