a year in review: group verse edition

dedicated to new friends, and new dynamics, the kids from grace cove were a riot to get to explore, i loved the friendships, the ships, the drama and the spooks we had together. getting to explore jd, especially who was a brand new muse at the time, and developing him over the course of interacting with you guys, was honestly so much fun, and i’ll always cherish that.

It was interesting to think about—fascinating, almost! And the unfortunate part of this was that @girlpsych was about to possibly suffer from a heart attack…

Kurt could see her down the hall, golden gaze wide and intrigued; fanged teeth pulled into a wide smile as he disappeared from where he was, only to appear in front of of Gwen from above in a cloud of dark smoke—or, well, darkness, really. “𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐎, 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐋𝐄𝐈𝐍—!” His accent is thick; his blue skin and golden eyes sticking out from a good chunk of the other mutants—or anyone else she probably knew. He had a very devil-like appearance, but it’s not like that was his fault! He hoped he didn’t scare her. “𝐄𝐢𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞! Honestly pierced his words. He knew a lot about secrets, or things that needed to be kept safe, and knew they were not to be played with. As a young man who had grown up not realizing the cloud of secrecy that surrounded him, he certainly took privacy and trust very seriously. He had gotten to know Gwen over a short period of time but found that he could confide in her, call her a friend, and not feel so ‘ alien ‘ here in Hawkins. She had moved here just like he had, and he found the town more tolerable knowing he wasn’t the only out-of-towner to end up calling this place ‘ home ‘ — or as close as it could get.

Truth be told, he was a little nervous. Strange things plagued this part of Indiana and it was such a shock from his semi-sheltered upbringing in South Carolina. The worst fear he’d had as a kid was worrying if the stilts on his pile dwelling home would give out with the next hurricane that came barreling through. Now ? Now a whole other world had almost opened up, and Evan felt he was on the cusp of realizing some heavy truths. Not that any of this tied directly to Gwen, he couldn’t suspect anything he didn’t have reason to presume, but God help him if he wasn’t slowly realizing the world wasn’t as easy as it seemed.

           “Impressive?  Sounds like you’ve been around plenty of messes before.”  He raised an eyebrow,  his attention pulled over to the stranger.  “I suppose coffee stains are impressive.”  Then his attention was aimed towards his clothes:  “More so on white clothes.  I look like a mess,  haha.  Not a pretty sight,  is it?  I understand if this gives you second-hand embarrassment.”

Everything sounded nearly muted; the sounds of voices muddled together in a way that Vance couldn’t focus on them and make out the words that were spoken. It was strange to realize they he was alive—That he, Bruce, Robin & Finney all got out of there when he was sure they were all left for dead by the hands of the monster whose dead body now laid in the house behind them. Blue eyes raised to see Bruce’s parents rush to him; then Robin’s, and Gwen to her brother—and Vance just stood there, waiting—but no one came.

He shouldn’t have been surprised, but part of him hoped that someone would have been there. That someone would have been worried enough to come running at him and holding him in their arms. His parents. His mom, atleast. But neither of them were there. Essentially, he was staring into space before he felt smaller arms around him, a grunt leaving Vance as he looked down to see Gwen in absolute tears as she hugged into him, a brow raising. Arms didn’t wrap around her—he barely knew her. He looked over at Finney for an answer but got nothing, a sigh leaving him as he looked down at Gwen with a sour expression. Why did this feel like pity? He stood there awkwardly with a huff.

“𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐨. 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐬, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤.”

Eddie and Gwen sat at the picnic table in the woods as the sun dropped lower and lower in the sky. Finally, it sat like an egg yolk on the horizon, and Eddie was -- for once -- running out of clever conversation topics as they lulled into a comfortable silence.

Perched atop the table, Eddie picked off flecks of peeling rusty, brown paint, flicking the pieces away from himself until his gaze dropped to Gwen. She was sitting upright and staring off into the bare limbs of the trees which were casting long and eerie shadows across blankets of fallen leaves. Eddie followed her gaze until his eyes landed on what she was looking at. He nearly jumped out of his skin. He could swear he was seeing Barb. And she looked just the same as she had when she’d disappeared two years prior. His fingers stilled, “I... she’s not alive, is she?”

Matthew had just arrived in Hawkins about a week ago; and though he had heard people call out to him before ( though, they would say ‘Billy’, and he had no idea who the hell that was ), Gwen was the first one he had physically bumped into; and now she had started questioning him and also accusing him of being this…Billy guy.

Matt’s personality was much different—it probably gave most people whiplash. He was much nicer—a little more excitable; not the harsh, over-confident bad boy like Billy Hargrove was. That—and his accent was thick enough to differentiate the two of them. Still, he was starting to get frustrated—if he wasn’t in a place so riddled with humans, he would have his ears and tail out—but he had to hide them. Be incognito—what would people do if they found out there was a wolf among them? Yeah, he didn’t want to find out.

Evan held his breath as he sat waiting, the phone in his hand ringing. He’d left Gwen months ago and this was his first time trying to reach out, trying to quell all of the unanswered ‘ what ifs ‘ in his mind. He’d stopped himself dozens of times before telling himself he was being selfish, that she had a new life and deserved to live it, because he was the one who had left.

I’m spinning out waiting for ya to pull me in —

It was his fault. He’d seen the look in her eyes when he said he wanted to leave ( ‘ I’m in an LA mood ‘ he said ), that Hawkins had finally run its course and he was filled with endless regrets never finding out what happened to his sister. There wasn’t purpose in taking it out on her but he turned bitter, he became different. He knew the nonsensical answers he got were only going to drive him further into madness and there was nothing he could do about it, or so he said, so he DEMANDED. That was the way of it, how the storm clouds rolled in over his sunny skies, and how the boy slowly stopped reaching for signs of his religion until he stopped mentioning God altogether. That had been the truth death of him.

Losing her had been the final blow, the proof that even in the next life, he may face this haunted, lonely existence. 

I can see you’re lonely down there, don’t you know that I am right here ? 

finney and gwen are a few years apart in age,  but their relationship resembles something one might expect to see in twins.  ( they’ve been mistaken for fraternal twins a couple of times in their lives. )  their close relationship is mostly the result of intense trauma-bonding.  their mother took her own life when they were both young,  their father began heavily drinking and sometimes became physically violent after her passing,  and finn was kidnapped by a serial killer plaguing the town they grew up in.  gwen and her prophetic dreams are a huge part of the reason finn’s alive today.  needless to say,  they’re very nearly attached at the hip.  if one sibling is around,  the other is probably close by.

                   The bat filled with nails is held in his hands as he looks at the other, it’s not that he doesn’t trust her - he does, it’s why he’s letting her hold it in the first place. It’s an item he’s particularly attached to, barely letting others touch or use it. But, he’s seen her with a bat, so - he wants to see her with this bat, “I know you got a good swing,” Steve comments before holding the bat out towards Gwen, so far there was only one person he’s let hold it before now, he gives a light smile “I wanna see how you handle this one.”

—   “SHUT UP, SHUT UP!” STEVE YELLS, THROWING HIS HANDS IN THE AIR and standing up from his seat. He takes a moment, pacing around the table with a thumb in between his lips, thinking hard. He returns to his seat and grumbles, “It’s not in the rules. But I guess, TECHNICALLY, you win.”
