Miles, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Model?

Back in the days, I got scouted on the streets of Amsterdam twice, and once in front of my school. This was at a young age (16/18).

Back then, didn’t had the confidence to start as a model.

My primary job, is working for the Royal Navy of the Netherlands. When I had quite some time left, wanted to fill in the time with something I could really be myself with.

As you can see, I have many tattoos all over my body.

From that moment I realised, that I can make a big change in the industry, and show the world that people can be their authentic selves to perform as a model.

I am not the mainstream model, and that’s exactly what my power is.

Taking my inspirations from everywhere. From historic art pieces in museums, up till daily life on the streets

Things that have to done, should he done first.

Having my retro paper-agenda where I prioritise all my work, social life etc.

Tried to do it with an online agenda or with the mobile agenda, but that doesn’t work for me

Miles, please give us an example of a time when you were able to successfully persuade someone to see things your way at work.

My girlfriend has an unique look as well. I encouraged her to start as a model.

Within 3 weeks she has several contract and yet her first paid campaign with a well-known brand in the Netherlands.

Miles please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Model.

Campaign for Schwarzkopf.

Always had the dream to work as a model and be an ambassador for this very well-known brand all over the world. Think big, go big.

Worked in Madrid, Spain, on a very big project with award-winning visual artist Rafael Díaz on the artistic project ‘Obras Maestras Reloaded’. In collaboration with Accenture and Grupo Planeta. It has been in art exhibitions and musea all over the world. For example, Musea Del Prado (Madrid, Spain). So, I have officially the label ‘Art’.

For a tattoomodel, that is the biggest achievement and proudest thing you can have.

To be honest, I can do always artistic and creative projects. That is my favourite style there is. To create art and magic.

Always be your authentic self. You don’t have to prove to anyone you can do something/it. Only to yourself.

Bella Hadid Calls Out ‘Instagram’For ‘Censoring’ Palestine post

Palestinian-Dutch supermodel Bella Hadid has called out Instagram for removing one of her posts, in which she shared a photo of her father’s passport showing his birthplace as Palestine.

The 23-year-old model used her social media platform to proudly show her father Mohamed Hadid's now-expired US passport, highlighting his birthplace as Palestine.

It is not clear why the platform chose to take down the image, however Hadid later shared a screenshot of the message she received from Instagram, citing violations of community guidelines, including harassment and bullying.

Hadid hit back at the platform, tagging them and asking why her post was taken down.

“What part of me being proud of my father’s birthplace of Palestine is 'bullying, harassment, graphic, or sexual nudity'? Are we not allowed to be Palestinian on Instagram? This, to me, is bullying,” her post read.

“You can’t erase history by silencing people. It doesn’t work like that,” she added.

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about social media platforms silencing posts about Palestine.

Many social media users have since reshared Hadid's photos online, praising the model for speaking up about her heritage.

Hadid has previously spoken about her heritage and her solidarity with Palestinian people. In 2017, the model joined a pro-Palestine protest outside the American embassy in London to oppose US President Donald Trump’s recognition of the whole city of Jerusalem as Israel’s exclusive capital.

She also took to Instagram to convey her thoughts on the matter, at the time, calling the move a major step back for peace.

“A very, very sad day, watching the news and seeing the pain of the Palestinian people makes me cry for the many, many generations of Palestine... Jerusalem is home of all religions... the treatment of the Palestinian people is unfair, one-sided and should not be tolerated. I stand with Palestine.”

The model’s older sister, Gigi Hadid, has also used social media to campaign for co-existence and the equal treatment of Palestinians and Israelis.

Like his daughters, Mohamed Hadid, a real estate developer born in 1948 in the town Nazareth now in present-day Israel, regularly uses his Instagram platform to speak on matters related to Palestine, such as the right of return for Palestinians forcibly displaced since 1948, and Palestinian culture, food and heritage.

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2019: Our Guide to the Best Moods, Moments and Must-Have Pieces

Milan Fashion Week has wrapped! With Gucci and Bottega Veneta not there, it was like having a reunion without two star family members. Then came the news Tuesday morning that Versace might be sold to Michael Kors Holding Ltd. Well, that’s like your Italian sister running off to the States to join her new boyfriend. Family drama aside, the party went ahead, and some notable moods, moments and must-have pieces emerged. Let’s start with the moods.

The mood: refined sensuality and femininity

The film I Am Love had so firmly imprinted a snowy, grey and moody impression of Milan in my mind that I found it disorienting to be here this week under brilliant blue skies and unexpected relenting heat. The fashion, however, was anything but va-va-voom hot. A joyously overt sexuality was replaced by a quieter, refined femininity that was also unexpected—especially at Roberto Cavalli and Versace. Marni, however, has always presented—and, with Francesco Risso, continues to present—clothes that speak to independent, creative neophiles. Risso told the press that his collection, with its sculptural draping, was his idea of “bringing the Venus de Milo back to life—a remote future of dishevelled nymphs, 3-D amazons!” This goddess-like aesthetic is right on trend, according to forecasting guru Lidewij Edelkoort. The noted Dutch visionary has said she expects normcore and streetwear basics to become less relevant as our collective aesthetic shifts toward draping, folding and cuts. She suggests this return to celebrating goddess-like strength in fashion reflects a new view on women’s empowerment. Footnote: One exception to this dialed-back sexuality was seen at Philosophy. Case in point: the black puffy-sleeved romper Bella Hadid wore.

The mood: sustainability (not so much)

London Fashion Week may have focused on the urgency for our industry to address sustainability, but most of the Italian designers didn’t get the memo (150+ looks at Dolce & Gabbana, 170+ looks at Emporio Armani). Max Mara was the notable exception in that it celebrated the idea of buying less but better. Designer Ian Griffiths said his sustainability-minded POV was heightened after watching Sir David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II and reading about Gaia, the OG Mother Earth from Greek mythology. “We see three generations wearing the same Max Mara coat—and it’s still not worn out,” he told Vogue. “Max Mara is about timeless, high-quality clothes. You may not buy a coat every season, but when you do, you keep it and then pass it on.”

The other designer who infused a political sustainable sentiment into her work—as she has done in the past—was Stella Jean. The Haitian-Italian designer did a collab with artisans in the Republic of Benin in West Africa. Her looks—including her signature circle-skirted dresses—were made from organic cotton that has been certified as ethical and sustainable by the European Ecocert SA. The embroidery work was done by Italian artisans.
