I can’t quite decide what my headcanon is on this. Because what time do bars open? Whatever time it is, it’s either well before noon, or well after noon. Simply because the sun would be straight above them, not streaming in all romantically like that if they were anywhere near lunchtime. This is like a 10am sun or a 2pm sun.

Then in this scene here, see how his shadow is cast pretty significantly to his right? The sun has set further. So if I had to place money on a bet, I’d say she met him at the bar around lunch, brought him home and offered him a sandwich (for the lunch), got him into her bedroom around 1 or 2pm, and they went at it until the sun started to tip down. A couple hours maybe? Maybe three? They for sure did a lot. That bed was evidence. And Beth thought it was her LAST TIME. She would have wanted to do everything. Every-THING! That man would have had his mind blown. She would have gone completely feral.

Then, when Beth went and stripped the bed, cleaning away all traces of Rio, the sun looked to have set. Her bedside lamps were on and there was almost no light behind her bedroom curtains as she glanced at her absolutely destroyed bed. So maybe she was in the shower for 30 minutes, scrubbing her skin with the hottest water she could stand. Then went and got dinner started, made all the beds and did laundry while it cooked. And then she set the table, put on her Beth mask, and pretended all that detergent could scrub away the person she knew she was becoming.

Do you have any Brio 2x09 head canons. Do you think He loved her at this point? How do you think Beth was feeling? do you think she ever loved him? That scene was honestly magical. I just rly miss them 🥺

I miss them too, anon! And gosh, it's such a good scene – everything from the build-up to that awkward, uncertain intimacy, to the rapid escalation, even to the soul crushing end. It was just so well-delivered on so many fronts, I really love it a lot.

I don't think either of them were in love in 2.09, but I do think they both felt a real connection and the spark of something that would turn into love. The thing about that moment in 2.09 is that Rio's still playing Beth, and Beth's still in survival mode, and I think both of those things leave little room to untangle the roots of their intimacy, or determine if what's growing is something seasonal or perennial - and I think Beth in particular thought it was likely to be a briefly blooming thing.

In that sense though, I think 2.09 made them both realise the grip this thing had on them – Beth couldn't even look at him as she ended it, and only even did because Dean was leveraging her children against them, and honestly, I think Rio was happy to keep their trysts to bathrooms and the like until she took him into her bedroom. I've said it before, but I do think that she allowed that degree of vulnerability and intimacy as a goodbye indulgence, whereas he felt it in the moment as a new sort of hello, which is no doubt why it stung so much when he realised it wasn't.

She opened a door a little wider, and to have that slammed so quickly afterwards I think jarred for both of them, and it gets me in the best possible way.

So yeah, I think it was awkward, in and out of bed, but I also think it was real, and new for both of them, and that neither of them fully realised the implication of that.

When people doubt Rio really loved Beth, I disagree. Up until she shot him, I think he watched her curious at first, but the cash exchange of nearly 2 million, the cash for cars, the hot tub place were money makers and Beths ideas. Think it crushed that tough guy when she paid the cut like a john would and said you should go. The question game reinforced his hope they would spend their lives together.

I actually don’t think that Rio ever loved Beth in the traditional sense. I think there’s something about her that draws him in (such as her business innovations) and intrigues him which keeps him coming back for more. They’ve shared sex and intimacy, which I think Rio let himself get lost in because I can’t imagine there are many people in his line of work - especially women - who can understand how lonely it is at the top, as he said to her in the bar in 2.09.

I do think that if it came down to it, he’d throw her to the wolves if it meant protecting himself and his family.

I agree that Rio was upset in 2.09! I don’t think Rio is a person who is surprised very much, so Beth ending their partnership - on all levels - left him in the lurch, so to speak. I think he was sort of riding the high of what they could be together and how good they are together, only to have her pull the rug out from under him especially after the vulnerability they just shared. I don’t think Rio lets many people into that bubble, and when he made that step with Beth, it blew up in his face.

During 20 questions in 2.11, I think Rio was leaning more towards Beth working for him for the rest of their lives and being under his thumb than necessarily sharing a life as a couple would. It read to me more of a threat than a wish, especially after she’d followed him around all day and broke into his apartment, invading his privacy.

I don’t think they said much of anything. Nothing meaningful, at least. Maybe some verbal asks and adjustments. Probably mostly from Rio. I don’t think she ever said his name. I think she probably was very zeroed in on the actions. Because to her, it was the last time and she’d never done any of those things with anyone else besides Dean. I think Beth was really focused on experiencing the moment by being present rather than dissolving into the pleasure of just feeling. I have a lot of my headcanon about how the act went in this post.

I also think (and maybe this is projection) that Beth being the uptight, controlling person that she is, lead very little of that whole sexual encounter. I think she initiated it and I think she moved a little mechanically into some things she wanted to try with him (my headcanon is that she got right on her knees and took that thing for an immediate experimental taste test.) But I also think that Rio lost himself in the feeling and the passion a lot more deeply than she did. I think he allowed himself unguarded arousal and I think that led to him taking the lead fairly quickly. Most uptight, controlling women don’t want to be in charge in bed. It isn’t pleasurable to be the project manager in everything, including sex. So I think a lot of Beth’s experience of Rio’s passion was in her own physical surrender to him. It’s what makes sex good for her. And I think part of the appeal for Rio was getting her to submit. Seeing her submit. Not that I think he’s a dom. I think he’s actually a switch. But I also think he would view Beth’s physical surrender as a type of vulnerability. And Rio loooooves to save vulnerable women. That likely translates to his sexuality in a pretty powerful way and may be at the root of why he continued to be so sexually attracted to her even after a major betrayal.

So taking all that into account, I don’t think Beth said anything at all because she would have felt too self conscious or performative. I think Rio talked only to direct her because he generally tends to follow her lead sexually. In my mind, the sex wasn’t anything crazy or especially kinky. It’s the second dude Beth’s been with ever. First time sober(ish). I think it was your standard acts, no major dirty talk or letting loose. But I think the novelty of being with each other specifically, was so erotically charged for them both that it seemed like more than what it was. Brain chemistry is crazy sometimes. And these two just do it for each other somehow.

It’s slow then, the smile that sets on his face, sprawling wide then wider still, and Beth glances down, sees her odd socks. The unspooling thread of her ever-unspooling pride frays a little further, but when she meets his gaze again, there’s nothing mocking in his look, nothing smug. Just him, open in a way he always is, never is, and Beth just thinks yeah.

She’s really doing this.

A step and then another, until he meets her halfway, and she was wrong before, because nothing here is quiet, nothing here could ever be, because nothing here is empty, and she hears the hitch of his breath and the stutter of her heart as she eases up onto her tip toes and kisses him.

Soft at first, too soft, enough she can feel his skin, taste the gin he’d drunk at the bar with her, taste whatever it is that’s just him, and she can almost hear it then too, the pulse of his own heart, the thrum of his thoughts, and he’s not kissing her back, not yet and she lowers herself back down to the flats of her feet. She opens her eyes (god, when had she closed them?) and Rio looks at her then.

Really looks at her, and it’s too loud now, the sounds too tangled, just so much frantic, beating, needing noise, and Beth can’t make out any one, can’t think, can’t speak, can’t see anything that isn’t him, seeing her, and this is supposed to be goodbye, this is supposed to be the last time (the first time), and Beth can do it because Beth’s lived a life of letting go of the things she’s wanted, she can, but when he closes the distance, hand finding her lower back, pulling her into him, nothing about it feels like the end.

- can we just start w the title, “Brio Hits the Bedroom”...like they would hit a dance floor? or like a hitman would hit their target??? lol that title...not okay

- his USUAL!! what I would give to know what his usual is

- “if this is truly goodbye, to all of it...final act of rebellion” I don’t like that her decision results from the need to rebel bc that suggests it's more of a frivolous impulse and less of something she feels is right and good. I don't like Beth perceiving and using crime/rio as an escape from the “real world”. I would much rather see Beth embracing her moral grayness and realizing how good she is at being bad. idk I guess it makes me think that she's always had one foot out and makes me think of @medievalraven‘s overall 2.09 analysis and yeah,, it’s a lot...

-“he grins, enjoying her discomfort” lol why? and also Manny played that like he was seeing the place for the first time (or maybe neatfreak!Rio was coming out to judge lol)

-“he leans against the counter, causally messing with her” wait I actually really like that. it’s very fun and flirty in a cute way. I love that he knows that she’s awkward and tries to make her feel flustered, and yet still wants to kiss her :,)

And now im going down that spiral of wondering how Beth could shoot Rio three times in 2.13. My man never could have seen that coming and neither could I

I mean the script says he enjoys her discomfort earlier on, but that smile rlly feels a lot more like he’s thinking “of course, only you would be like this” and it’s a callback to “you wanna clean 500 g’s?” and a hint of “I love you”  but basically I want more insight into what Rio was thinking and feeling
