NASA's Curiosity rover takes a selfie on Mars. This was taken in 2016 and Curiosity is still going strong to this day! A truly impressive feat of engineering.
"This self-portrait of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover shows the vehicle at a drilled sample site called "Okoruso," on the "Naukluft Plateau" of lower Mount Sharp. The scene combines multiple images taken with the rover's Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) on May 11, 2016, during the 1,338th Martian day, or sol, of the rover's work on Mars." - NASA

The World is Amazing, Actually (Part 11 or 12, I lost count)
It's been awhile since I made a post about how fucking rad the world actually is, and amidst all the pandemics and climate change and economic troubles, I felt the need.
So:
Today’s Wild Place (The Earth is An Alien Planet):
The Danakil Depression, Ethiopia:
Tumblr media
The Danakil Depression is probably the closest you'll ever be able to come to standing on the surface of Venus (without the crushing atmosphere, of course). Choking sulphuric acid and chlorine gases fill the air, while acid ponds and geysers pepper the landscape.
- Daisy Dobrijevic, published July 4, 2022
(BTW scientists recently discovered microbes capable of surviving in this toxic, extremely hot environment, which means...well, even if we kick the bucket, life will continue. There's something comforting in knowing that no matter how bad we screw up...life will go on.)
Today’s Incredible Feat of Engineering (look! at what! we made!):
Ouarzazate Solar Power Station in Morocco, which has gone solar in a big way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Which means they are making a huge contribution to helping fight toxic pollution, noise pollution, water use, land destruction, and carbon emissions. No really, there are charts. Reducing carbon emissions charts. Reducing irresponsible land use charts. Charts! Graphs! Data samples!)
Today’s Cool Life Form (the rare, the weird, the beautiful):
The Hispaniolan Solenodon.
Tumblr media
A very rare, nocturnal, shrew-like creature that is one of the few mammals able to produce venom. Look at him! Look at his snout! He's just a little guy! He will bite you and run away on his back legs! He's rare, and endangered, but not gone! Not gone yet, bitches!
Tumblr media
(Bonus: 10 Fun Facts About the Solenodon)
Today’s Bizarre Mystery (no, seriously, wtf?):
The Great Unconformity.
Hey, remember the Grand Canyon? Remember how we can see the passage of time through each layer, going back hundreds of thousands of years?
Tumblr media
Did you know that apparently, on this massive record of earth's geological history, there's a chunk of time missing? Science has some hypotheses about how and why this happens (and yes, it's been found in more than one place), but they are really only hypotheses, and no one's really sure what happened to, oh, 1.6 billion years, give or take.
Today’s Act of Humanity (yes, we are worth the effort):
After fleeing a war, Ukrainians rush to help Mississippi tornado victims.
Tumblr media
"They made the 16-hour drive south to donate bottled water and volunteer with aid workers, buoyed by the idea that they could help a community facing a similar struggle to theirs.
“We had to leave our home,” Pavliuk told The Washington Post in Ukrainian, in an interview interpreted by Hrebenyk. “And they don’t have a place to go back, either.”"
NEW CATEGORY:
Today's Good News About The Future (No, It's Not Too Late and Anyone Who Says Otherwise is Selling Something):
Tumblr media
The Saiga Antelope, a species critical to the continued survival of huge swathes of grassland, that in 2003 was down to 6% of it's population and already extinct in it's natural habitat of China and Ukraine, has rebounded back to almost 2 million strong thanks to conservation efforts.

Anything interesting about the rocks themselves, geologically?
Tumblr media
A model of Stonehenge showing how it is thought to have looked when complete (if it was ever completed but that's another conversation) The big stones are the sarsens and the small ones are the bluestones. The geology of the rocks at Stonehenge is a huge subject and some research is still ongoing. I can tell you that the big stones, the ones most people think of when they imagine Stonehenge, are called sarsens, a local name. Sarsens appear in "drifts" on the chalk land that underlies that part of England. The sarsens are a kind of sandstone with a high amount of silica in them so if you find a newly broken or cut one it will have shiny bits in it. But of course the ones at Stonehenge were cut and shaped long ago and are covered with lichens and a dull patina. Until recently the source of the sarsens wasn't certain, although they knew they weren't from far away, but not that long ago the son of an engineer who had extracted a core from one of them long ago returned that core to English Heritage who are in charge of the stones. The core was tested and analyzed and it was determined that almost all of the 52 sarsens at Stonehenge were brought from an area called West Woods near Marlborough, about 15 miles north. Quite an enterprise 4500 years ago even to bring one 20 ton stone that far and they brought 50+. But the big stones aren't even one third of the stones at Stonehenge and the rest of the story is much more complex. People toss around the term bluestone for many of the smaller stones at Stonehenge but that isn't a geological term and the bluestones are different kinds of stone, mostly rhyolite and spotted dolerite. The closest geological matches for many of these are in outcroppings in western Wales. How they got to Salisbury Plain is contested. Most theorists believe they were brought there for some reason through enormous effort by the builders but there's one fellow in particular who bangs on and on about them having been brought from Wales by glaciers. I find myself hoping he's wrong just because he is unkind about other researchers and well, just generally annoying, but that's no way to do science, haha, and until proof is found one way or another we don't actually know.
There are other stones too, like the heel stone and the so-called slaughter stone, called that because it is flat and the hollows in it look red when they fill with water because of the iron oxide in the stone. There is nothing to indicate that human sacrifice was ever practiced there. That was just the kind of thing people liked to imagine in the Romantic Era and it stuck. For further information on the stones themselves I will refer you to a blog that numbers the stones and talks about each stone and the types of stones : The Stones of Stonehenge. There is no aspect of Stonehenge that isn't researched, talked about, even argued about. The personalities surrounding it are part of what fascinates me.

Ten Babies Part 2 (Vash the Stampede x Reader)
Note: This is my SECOND time writing here, please don't look too much into the details, I made some up, these ideas were prompted from my chat with Vash at Character.AI, lore dump will probably be here (doing the josei format up this bitch).
Warning: ⚠️Smut⚠️
Summary: Was it really a one night stand, Mr. Stampede?
Part 1, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5
Tumblr media
stiring awake, Vash sits up from the softest bed he ever laid on as e looked around, the room he resides in looks more luxurious than the one he was given, but it's personalized, trinkets strewn about tables and nightstands, with it's own personal desk with what seem like important documents.
Vash notices that his naked, with an 'eep' he began dressing himself up from the clothes he discarded the night before, looking around for his red coat, but concludes it to be gone, and noticed someone humming.
Walking over to the window, it turned out to be a veranda over-looking the city, and noticed (Y/N), looking at the city, wearing his coat.
"Ms.(Y/N)-" Vash abruptly stopped himself as (Y/N), she's completely naked and only wearing his red coat, making him blush.
"Good Morning, Mr. Stampede." (Y/N) greeted, smiling at the blonde before turning back to the city, Vash realizes that the Mansion isn't on a hill, but on a cliff, overlooking the city that's located on a meteor crater.
"Welcome...to Febrari."
Febrari, a hidden city in Noman's Land that not many know, it's residents are decedents of SEED Ship 14 after 'The Great Fall', the ship specializes in agriculture and has been developing plant matter after departure from Earth.
Head Scientist, Agriculture, Biochemist, and Engineer, Erich Hem Loverose, did try to make contact with the other SEED ships, but an encounter deterred him, using the geological location that SEED ship 14 fell onto, natural walls that surround the area, SEED ship 14 went zero contact for the last century.
"I haven't been completely honest with you, Mr. Stampede." (Y/N) confessed, turning to look at him.
"My name's (Y/N), (Y/N) Loverose." she reveals, smiling at him, her hands in his coat pockets.
"It's quite alright." Vash sweat drops, laughing nervously, suddenly remembering what she said before she fell asleep
"Give me Ten Babies..."
'I don't even know if PLANT DNA is compatible with Human DNA.' Vash thought, turning to the woman who's looking at her city fondly.
"About-" Before he could even start, a knock resided on the door.
"Ms.(Y/N)! Mr. George Jr. from the Water Distribution Sector wishes to speak with you." Aileen said through the door, as (Y/N) shouted that she'll get ready.
"We have only just woken up and I already have a meeting." (Y/N) mutters, a hand on her forehead as she pulled Vash through her room and onto the door.
"Let's talk again later, Mr. Stampede." (Y/N) teases as she removed his coat and placed it over her shoulder, rendering her completely naked, flustering the male before being pushed out of the room.
"There's running water in your bathroom, feel free to get ready!" (Y/N) yells over the door before fading away, Vash still blushing hard from what just happened, then shakes out of his stupor as he processes what he said.
"Running water..." Vash mutters before rushing to his room and heading to the bathroom, turning on the tap, and watching water falling through it.
"Woah..." Vash mutters as he runs his hand through it.
"Just what is this place..."
____
(Y/N) talks with a young man on her porch under the shade of her home, wearing a white sleeveless dress with an accordion piece and plain piece that shapes her figure, dangling fake pearls on her ears, and a golden stars necklace wrapped around her neck, 'laughing' along with the man.
While out of earshot, Vash peeks through a window, looking at the scene before him.
"Who's that?."
"George Shepard Jr., son of the Water Distribution Department Head of Febrari, also one of the most eligible bachelors around here." Aileen informed Vash, jumping in surprise as he turned to look at the woman.
"Water Distribution? I haven't heard of that term before? In fact, it's so scarce to get as much as a drop here in Noman's Land." Vash replies, surprise that there's such a thing as departments for it.
"We're lucky enough to have landed with our ship fully intact, in fact, we haven't had a singled deceased PLANT for the past century." Aileen reveals, surprising Vash even more.
"Not a single one?! In this place? how is that even possible?!" Vash asks, still in shock.
"Because of the Loverose's" Aileen reveals, turning to look at something, turns out they're in the living room, with a mural of the first generation of the Loverose's hung above the fireplace.
"They took care of everything for us, especially Mr. Hem, with his knowledge and guidance, he built a system and developed plants for food that would survive the harsh climate of this planet, it is still under progress but under our current condition, they still work." Aileen informs him, staring at the Mural of a family with a Man in his mid-thirties wearing glasses with (y/hc) slick-back hair with serious eyes, holding a little boy in his arms and a young woman who looks exactly like (Y/N) but with blue eyes and blonde hair(A/N: sorry if you're blonde and have blue eyes), holding an umbrella made out of metal, smiling at the camera with her arm over the man's shoulder.
"and all of that knowledge is passed down to (Y/N), a very sought-after bachelorette, coming from wealth and status." all their attention turned to the woman who continued discussing matters with the young woman.
"I understand you still think that you're a fling, but know this, I watch Ms. (Y/N) grow up from a newborn into the young woman you see today, and not once have I seen her act with this kind of behavior towards a man, if you're uncomfortable at the situation, leave if you like, it's alright to not reciprocate her feelings." Aileen advises as she turns to go to the kitchen.
"Are you sure? I don't want to leave a woman with a broken heart!"
"She's a strong woman, she can take anything you throw at her and she'll stand back up, she'll be fine...unless, your feeling something else, Mr. Stampede?." Aileen pokes as Vash blushes, turning to look back at the two on the porch as (Y/N) turns her body 'bashfully', something inside Vash stirs as he continued to watch the two.
"One night stand my ass."
____
After breakfast, (Y/N) invites Vash to see the city.
"I'm needed to see the progress of our other plants like cabbages and such." (Y/N) informs him, walking out of the mansion holding a very long umbrella.
"What's a cabbage?." Vash asks following her as they approached two Thomas Handlers.
"Your about to find out." (Y/N) chuckles as she opens the umbrella as they get under the three suns, a Handler approached her, handing her usual bird and riding it, placing the umbrella at the custom holder, protecting her from the heat.
"Let's get going." (Y/N) nods her head to the other bird, as Vash blushes and goes to the Handler who gave him the reins and rides it.
"Let's go!" (Y/N) squeals as she snapped the reins, making the Thomas, run with Vash panicking and running after her.
The two Handlers could only look at each other blankly.
"Ms. (Y/N)! Slow down!" Vash yells, matching the Lady's speed who continued laughing.
"Come on! I'll race you there!" (Y/N) challenges as she snaps the reins once again, showing a path as they race through it.
Vash hears (Y/N) laugh once again, turning to look at her he observes as she squeals, her hair gliding through the air as she looks so carefree. Vash turns away, blushing.
Reaching the town entrance, Vash won the race, and they come to a stop.
"Ah! You won! Guess I need to get you something for getting first place." (Y/N) stated, softly shaping the reins on her Thomas as they start to walk as Vash rushes to follow her.
"You don't need to get me anything, really!" Vash insisted, already heavily in debt to the woman.
"It's alright, really, Aileen already ask me to get some things from this store anyways." (Y/N) persist as they continued on their journey, noticing people calling out to her, smiling up to her as she smiles back, waving at them, making Vash pull up his hood to avoid being recognizable.
"You do know your red coat itself gives you away, right?" (Y/N) points out, smiling at the PLANT.
"Maybe they'll think I'm someone imitating me?." Vash tries to defend himself.
"Now who would be able to imitate your handsome self?." (Y/N) flirts making the man hide further into his hood, blushing.
"We're here." (Y/N) stops, and an unfamiliar smell wafts through the air, it smells homely and something fresh from the oven.
"Wait right here." (Y/N) orders as she got down with her umbrella, and walks into the store filled with bread and pastries Vash had never seen before, watching her converse with a few people around her area before walking back to him with bags on her arms.
"I bet you haven't had these for a long while." she guesses, holding up a bag of a certain baked pastry.
"Doughnuts...." He mutters, taking the bag before digging in.
"I'm glad you like it" (Y/N) laughs as she walks back to her Thomas, places back her umbrella, and mounts the bird, continuing on their leisure phase, eating their own pastries.
While stuffing his face, Vash looks around, noticing how peaceful the place is, occasionally there's someone greeting (Y/N).
"You're really well known in this town."
"Well, I did grow up here and came from a very prominent family, would be pretty hard to not be known." (Y/N) replies, waving among the people.
"But how come I haven't seen your parents?." Vash pokes, as she stiffens, keeping her face facing forward
"Oh...uh, they died a few years back, peacefully, might I add." She confirms, keeping herself facing forward.
"Oh, I-I'm sorry for prying-"
"No! It's quite alright, it happened a long time ago anyway." She remarks, but still kept her composure and still faced forward.
silence enveloped the two, occasionally greeting anyone who greets (Y/N) first, before reaching their destination, the area is set up with hundreds of greenhouses.
"Ms. Loverose, welcome to the Farming Sector." a young man greets, taking (Y/N)'s hand and kissing the back of it, right in front of Vash, who glares at the action.
"Oh, Jaime, still sweet as ever." (Y/N) 'swoons'.
"And who might this be?." He asks, turning to the red-hooded man, raising an eyebrow.
"Ah, I'm-"
"He's my guard for the day." (Y/N) cuts him off, unmounting the bird with her umbrella with Vash following after.
"Shall I also accompany you inside as well Ms.-"
"It's quite alright, we can look around ourselves." She cuts him off walking to the plastic tarps.
"Understood" Jaimie grumbles as he glares at the blonde who can't help but smile.
(Y/N) mentions to follow her through the tarp and walks in, with Vash cautiously approaching the plastic, before walking in.
Cold air greeted the man, looking around in wonder at the nostalgic temperature, then noticing the leafy green bulbs before him, all in line planted to the ground.
(Y/N) smiles as she looks around, wiping the back of her hand on her dress as she looks around proudly.
"Back on earth, there used to be different climate zones around the globe, and each of them has the perfect temperature for plants, but it's hard to grow anything here on Noman's Land with the three suns and all, and the best that we could do is to mimic their climate and modify the plants to adapt to the planet's soil, though they are mixed with soil back from earth, but atleast they worked" She explains as she knelt down to one cabbage, her umbrella providing shade as she stroked one of them, glistening with water.
"It's not much, but at least it's enough to sustain us." (Y/N) smiles as Vash knelt down beside her, staring in wonder.
"Can you really eat it?." Vash leans down to take a bite as (Y/N) covers his mouth, chuckling at her.
"You need to cook it first before eating it! Unless you want a weird tingling sensation in your mouth" She laughs as she hugs her umbrella handle closer to her, bringing it between her legs, giggling uncontrollably as Vash backs away flustered, embarrassed as (Y/N) remembered something.
"There was a belief about planting back on Earth, when you sing to a plant they'll grow healthy and bountiful. Do you think that'll work here?." (Y/N), asks as she leans closer to the plant and clears her throat.
"Can we just be honest?" (Y/N) starts as Vash watches in amusement.
"These are the requirements If you think you can be my one and only true love You must promise to love me" (Y/N) continues as she closes her eyes, not noticing Vash's PLANT marks are showing, as he began to panic.
"And damn it, if you fuck me over I will rip your fuckin' face apart" Vash was so distraught that his PLANT markings instantly disappeared.
(Y/N) stops, opening her eyes as she looks at Vash sheepishly.
"I don't think plants would like to grow up to that, sorry, just thought of that off the top of my head." she apologizes and stands up, walking to the middle of the field, spinning her umbrella as Vash follows after her.
"Speaking of Love, have you over been in a relationship before?." Vash asks as she looks up thinking.
"I've had a few boyfriends before, but they were never serious, It's just a way to rebel at my parents back then, besides they could never handle me being too much of a woman." (Y/N) smiles in thought.
"Is that so? then what about those guys who's been all around you lately? are they also your past boyfriends?."
"Oh no! No no no! I don't even get near them as a child for how snobbish they acted, they do their jobs perfectly but don't have the right head on their shoulders in treating the common folk." (Y/N) denies, holding up a hand her lips in a tight frown.
"Althouuuuuuugh...If it's okay for them to have 10 children, I don't see why not." (Y/N) blushes, a hand on her cheek, swooning, as Vash watches her. thoughts running through his mind, the thought of her having children with another man...stirs something inside of him.
Vash suddenly pushed (Y/N) behind some tall cabbages, her umbrella flying up in the air, her white dress getting dirty in the process.
"Vash! What are you-" (Y/N) cuts herself off when Vash suddenly pins her to the ground, stunning the girl.
Her umbrella falls beside them facing the entrance, effectively hiding the two, they continue to stare at each other, as Vash slowly leans down to the girl, initiating a kiss, as (Y/N) got out of her stupor and followed him after, holding onto the back of his coat.
Vash hiked up her dress, revealing a pair of red lace panties, biting his lip at the sight as he pushed the lower side of it to the side, slipping one of his fingers in.
(Y/N) gasps as she held onto Vash tighter, biting his neck through his turtle neck, Vash quicken his pace and slid another finger in, prompting the girl to roll her eyes in pleasure, realizing she already cum.
wordlessly, Vash lifted his finger covered in (Y/N)'s slick, making sure she was watching as he sucked on his fingers, making her moan as she bit into her thumb.
After Vash finished cleaning his fingers, he proceeded with pulling down his pants, his cock slapping onto his stomach upon release as (Y/N) watches in anticipation.
lining it up, he looks back at (Y/N) for confirmation, who wrapped her legs around his waist and pulls him in, both moaning in synch at the sudden intrusion, Vash slowly started thrusting his hips onto her, grounding himself onto her as (Y/N) pulled him to her gasp and moan directly onto his ear, egging the PLANT more as he increases his speed.
The girl went crossed-eyed as she held onto Vash tighter, and with a last few thrusts, he spurts his seed inside of her, making sure to ground himself to her as he bit her neck, forcing (Y/N) to follow after, mixing along with his.
The two pants as Vash lifted himself from her shoulder, being face to face with her, as (Y/N) wrapped her arms around Vash's neck and pull him down, pulling him into a rough and passionate kiss, her fingers running through his hair as Vash hugged her tightly.
"Ms. Loverose! Are you there?." The man from before, Jaimie, call out as they both sat up, thankfully being fully hidden by the girl's large umbrella.
"Micheal from the Waste Department wants to talk to you, about the production of fertilizer for the Farming Sector." Jaimie added as they two hurriedly fixed themselves up, brushing away dirt that had gotten onto their skin and hair but (Y/N) her ruined dress and bite mark on her neck.
"Did something happen there? do you need help?." Jaimie asks, getting closer as the umbrella shuffles and two figures burst out from behind.
"WE'RE FINE! COMPLETELY FINE!" (Y/N) confirms, laughing nervously with Vash behind her.
"I just...fell onto the dirt and Vash helped me get back up!"
"Then why are you wearing his coat?." Jaimie points out, as it's true, (Y/N) is wearing Vash's red coat which almost swallows her.
"My dress got dirty and Vash lend me his coat so I won't look like a mess." she smiles nervously, with Vash nodding alongside her, holding her umbrella, as Jaimie observes the two.
"Well, either way, Micheal does still want to talk to you..." Jaimie continues as he leads them back to the entrance.
Vash observes (Y/N) and noticed that there was a wobble on her step, she kept her legs close as much as possible and pulled the collar around her neck, Vash smiles in triumph

On September 4, the Japanese Supreme Court ruled that Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki is legally obligated to approve the relocation of a U.S. military base from the Okinawan district of Ginowan to Henoko district in the prefecture’s Nago city. The decision follows Tamaki’s years-long legal battle to prevent the relocation after landfill work, which began in 2018, unearthed the fact that a significant portion of the sea floor where the base is being built was too soft to support the original construction plan. In April 2020, the Japanese Defense Ministry’s Okinawa Bureau attempted to submit a revised building plan to account for the soft ground, which civil engineers described as “soft as mayonnaise,” but that was rejected by Tamaki in November 2021, after he claimed there was “insufficient research” into whether the revised plan would be feasible. Previous geological surveys indicated that the seabed was so soft that the base is likely to continuously sink. Tamaki claimed that “it was unacceptable to proceed with the construction of a new base that has no prospect of being completed.”[...]
Tamaki won a second four-year term in September 2022 by defeating Sakima Atsushi, who had the backing of the Liberal Democratic Party, which controls Japan’s government. Notably, Sakima was supportive of the U.S. base in Henoko. Tamaki’s re-election, while expected, thus highlighted how contentious the U.S. military still remains for the local populace given the unequal burden placed on Okinawa by U.S. bases.
While only accounting for 0.6 percent of Japan’s territory, the prefecture houses 70 percent of the 50,000 U.S. troops in the country[...] Okinawa has a crucial role in both Washington and Tokyo’s security posture toward China[...]
Despite that, many Okinawans have called for a reduction of military personnel on the island. A 2022-2023 public opinion poll conducted by researchers at several universities, including the University of the Ryukyus, found that nearly 70 percent of local residents think the heavy concentration of U.S. military personnel in Okinawa is “unfair.”[...]
the fortification of Japan’s defenses through Okinawa is also being used to counter [...] Russia and North Korea.[....]
it is highly unlikely that the Japanese prime minister will give in to the demands of the Okinawan people for a reduce U.S. military presence. This will ensure that anti-U.S. military sentiment will remain high on the island as Japan-U.S. security cooperation continues to strengthen.

Spectember D1: Adaptive Radiation
Tumblr media
Mars was among the most important core colonies of humanity for a long time of its primordial interstellar age, terraformed and maintained by a rudimentary “planetary life support” system to keep its earth like environment but unfortunately that did not stop the erosive nature of solar wind making the ecosystem to decay, and as the solar system started to fade out of the human galactic influence of power this only got worse becoming into a forgotten relic of better times that accomplished its goal, that had to eventually die.
It was not until the arrival of the proper methods to keep planets almost permanently habitable thanks to the “Planetary meta engineering” thousands of years later that mars finally was given a stable habitable form with technologies that allowed the start of its own geological activity preserving a proper magnetic field and so its atmosphere.
From there little of the original first wave of life preserved apart of a handful of survivors of the early ecosystem: gastropods, crustaceans, grass, worms, lots of lichen and algae species and one single species of tetrapod still alive: Bibrons’s geckos (Pachydactylus bibronii), resilient little reptiles which were thrown alongside others vertebrates on the terraforming days to fill up the new habitable planet, but upon the severe degradation of the Martian ecosystem they became the last ones standing.
For matters of conservative view mars was not reinstalled with more fauna apart of the one that survived, more as a symbol of the resilience of the life that could endure the hostile times, millions of years passed and the humans that once lived there have long vanished and left the world being inherited by the small squamates.
15 million years at least, and the Martian fauna looks like a reincarnation of the early Triassic, specially in what was once the Argyre basin now holds the main biodiversity of Martian geckos, all descendant of that single species, with nothing to compete but small beetles and large snails they just turned the chances on diversify in different sizes and feeding habits eventually specializing in considerable new forms, the beginning of different diverse dynasties of a probably long-lasting habitable Mars.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welcome! This is a short, temporary information sheet about my OC (I am currently at 13,000 words with various stories and excerpts about her life), Ellora Clev! Please enjoy, she is my pride and joy 💗
Name: Ellora Clev
Species: Human
Born: 42BBY
Designation: Engineering Corps - Geological Division (Former), Imperial Military Department of Advanced Weapons Research - Project Celestial Power (Former)
Overview: Ellora Clev was a geologist in the Republic Engineering Corps with a special interest in mineralogy and speleology. Usually based on Coruscant, she would regularly attend field missions for duties such as mapping surveys, sample and core extractions, and navigational assistance. Her research was valuable intel for the GAR during the Clone Wars, which continued to rage on throughout the formative years of her career.

Ipsi the Tooka: Ipsi is Ellora's tooka. They met on a remote planet named Athol-3. The full story can be read here!
She has very 'I just live here' energy, contenting herself with sleeping and exploring wherever she goes. She doesn't take kindly to strangers, and has an unusual distaste for Crosshair, but cares deeply for Ellora.
Ipsi is small by tooka species standards, only measuring approximately half the average length and height. Her most striking feature is her bioluminescence, which causes her fur to glow a vivid green colour.

Clone Force 99: Ellora met the Bad Batch when they were assigned to assist her with a highly dangerous mineral extraction mission on a planet named Calyx. The air was highly corrosive and caused weapons such as blasters and detonators to become damaged and explosive. Together, they worked as a team to complete the mission successfully (with some minor major shenanigans).
Ellora and Tech quickly hit it off, becoming friends and enjoying the time they spent together exchanging research notes and learning from one another. Soon, Ellora became friends with the rest of the squad, slowly winning them over with her sense of humour. The exception to this was Crosshair, who elected to keep his distance.
Post Order 66: Following the fall of the Republic, Ellora was inducted into the Advanced Weapons Research unit of the Imperial Army. She found herself transferred to Kamino to continue her role as a field geologist extracting rare minerals. The Empire had taken a keen interest in kyber crystals, and Ellora was paired with the Elite Squad, led by Crosshair, to carry out numerous missions (under the pretence the crystals were for energy research). Here, the pair reunited, but tensions ran high. Under the influence of his inhibitor chip, now at full intensity, Crosshair's cold attitude continued. However, promising signs showed early in Ellora's arrival to Tipoca City. He began to train Ellora in secrecy, teaching her how to fight and to handle her blaster properly. Her lack of combat skills made her a liability to the team, and Crosshair endeavoured to train her so that she was proficient enough to protect herself. Slowly, their friendship began to develop.
Waning Loyalty: Ellora continues her missions across the galaxy to acquire target minerals that are of interest to the Empire. The purposes of her research are kept secret, and any questions Ellora makes are placated with benign studies. Soon, she becomes suspicious.
Her rapidly evolving friendship with Crosshair provides her with someone to confide in, and she shares her concerns with him. Crosshair is confronting his own doubts, with his inhibitor chip now malfunctioning after his injury on Bracca. Before they can investigate further, Ellora is taken off world, back to Coruscant. She becomes panicked, hearing that Tipoca City was destroyed in a devastating storm. Fearing the worst, she was met with a mixture of relief and horror upon discovering that Crosshair was alive, but in extremely poor health.
The pair reunite once more, now working primarily as a team of two. The Empire was choosing to allocate less and less resources to clones, and questions were beginning to appear surrounding Ellora's loyalty. Through all of this, Crosshair and Ellora are a vital support to one another, and they are almost inseparable whenever they aren't attending to their respective duties. Their care and attachment are beyond that of a conventional relationship.
Breaking Point: Missions were becoming increasingly challenging, and it soon became obvious that they were being passively discarded by the Empire. Ellora confessed to Crosshair that she wanted to leave and start a new life with him. At first, he humours it, but soon the thought becomes Ellora's light in the ever suffocating darkness they found themselves in. Crosshair cared deeply for her, and was enraptured by her vivid daydreams. He agrees to help her leave, but realises that going with her will pose a much greater threat to her safety. Knowing that she won't go through with her desertion alone, he attempts to wait until the last moment to convince her to leave by herself. During Ellora's escape, Crosshair tries to reason with her to go by herself, but she refuses. He makes the ultimate decision to force her to leave.
Navigating Alone: Having spent all of her adult life in the Engineering Corps or under the Imperial Army, Ellora found navigating the galaxy alone a formidable task. With few credits and limited equipment, Ellora did what she could to survive whilst remaining off the Empire's radar. This meant sometimes having to make morally questionable decisions. Combined with her grief from losing Crosshair, Ellora struggled significantly to keep going. Ipsi helped Ellora through her darkest moments, and continued to do so.
Ellora's main source of income was selling rare and valuable minerals that she had either collected herself, or bartered from sellers who weren't as knowledgeable on the true value. Through this line of work she met a pirate named Phee Genoa, who valued Ellora's eye for the unique and illusive when it came to crystals.
Arrival on Pabu: Phee and Ellora quickly became close associates, exchanging intel frequently. But in a dangerous galaxy, Ellora keeps her past a closely guarded secret. Despite this, Phee invites her to Pabu after Ellora is badly injured during a run-in with bounty hunters. Shortly after her arrival, Ellora discovers that the Bad Batch are living on Pabu. The squad are still recovering after their recent mission to Mount Tantiss, where they successfully rescued Crosshair, Tech and Omega. Tech was the most severely wounded, still recovering from a fall he took on Eriadu, with Crosshair also suffering significant physical trauma after being relentlessly tortured.
Their reunions were painfully sweet, and Ellora was very excited to be introduced to the newest member of the squad, Omega. Her reconciliation with Crosshair came last, with complicated feelings on both sides about their separation remaining strong. It had been over a year since they had seen each other, but any resentment or contempt Ellora could have possibly held immediately dissolved. It was like no time had passed at all, but they had both significantly changed, and they had a long road ahead of them to recover.
The Future: Ellora is passionate about Pabu, feeling deeply for the cause. Wanting to help other refugees of the Empire find a new home, Ellora became involved in initiatives to help find new places across the galaxy like Pabu. Using her skills in geology, she became a surveyor with a small team, but often undertook fieldwork to chart new planets which would be suitable for settlement by those fleeing the new regime. Crosshair would most often accompany her on these expeditions, and although they never truly enjoyed the life that Ellora had spoken of so fondly, they felt they were helping to make the galaxy a better place.
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this introduction to Ellora. Please enjoy some Ipsi content for getting this far :D

On April 25th 1852 an earthquake lasting several seconds shook Comrie in Perthshire, accompanied by an ominous rumbling.
Lying on the highland fault line where the highlands meet the lowlands little earthquakes are frequent and have earned Comrie the nickname, 'Shaky Toon.'
Despite this country not being generally associated with earthquakes or tremors, Scotland actually housed the world’s first seismometer, which was built and installed in Comrie - one of the most geologically active areas in the British Isles.
The first earthquake in Comrie was recorded as far back as 1788, and an early seismometer installed in the village in 1840.
Built on a rocky outcrop (so it directly experiences any tremors), in a field to the west of the village, Comrie is also home to Earthquake House, one of Europe’s smallest listed buildings.
It was once a centre for seismology, recording tremors that were common to the area in the 19th century.
Built in 1869, it was the first purpose-built earthquake observation centre in the world - just a shame it was built a few decades too late, as seismic activity had declined in the area by the time it was built. It is said that during the 1830s, 7,300 earth tremors were recorded in the area.
In 1816 an earthquake took place, so fierce, it was felt over much of Scotland.
Lasting six minutes, an Inverness sailor claimed he was “tossed on his bed, as he had never been tossed out at sea, for five full minutes.”
In 1839. measuring an estimated 4.8 on the Richter scale, another powerful quake was felt across the country.
Many houses in Comrie were damaged and the impact caused a dam near Stirling to fail.
Known as the Great Earthquake of 1839, the action prompted postmaster Peter Macfarlane and shoemaker James Drummond, known as the ‘Comrie Pioneers’, to set up an instrument to measure earthquakes and began keeping formal records.
Earthquake House is one of Europe’s smallest listed buildings.
Built in 1869, it was the first purpose-built earthquake observation centre in the world.
Unfortunately it was built a few decades too late - by the time engineers at the house were able to read tremors more accurately, they became much less frequent.
In 1869 a fresh set of tremors momentarily renewed interest in earthquakes.
By 1911 technology had moved on, and the building became redundant.
The building was refurbished in 1988 after falling into neglect, and remains active - a modern seismograph, and a model of an early wooden seismoscope invented by Robert Mallett are installed at the house.

“So I was pleasantly surprised when I met the leaders of Running Tide earlier this month. Far from having a hippie-dippie-ish enthusiasm about kelp, they spoke like engineers, aware of the immense scale of carbon removal that stands before them. While much of Running Tide's science remains unvetted, the researchers seem to be thinking about all the right problems in all the right ways—approaching carbon removal as an organization-level problem rather than a one-off process.
At its core, carbon removal is “a mass-transfer problem,” Marty Odlin, Running Tide’s CEO, told me. The key issue is how to move the hundreds of gigatons of carbon emitted by fossil fuels from the “fast cycle,” where carbon flits from fossil fuels to the air to plant matter, back to the “slow cycle,” where they remain locked away in geological storage for millennia. “How do you move that?” Odlin said. “What’s the most efficient way possible to accomplish that mass transfer?” The question is really, really important. The United Nations recently said that carbon removal is “essential” to remedying climate change, but so far, we don’t have the technology to do it cheaply and at scale.
Odlin, who comes from a Maine fishing family and went to college for robotics, founded Running Tide in 2017 on the theory that the ocean, which covers two-thirds of the planet’s surface, would be essential to carbon removal. At least for now, the key aspect of Running Tide’s system is its buoys. Each buoy is made of reclaimed waste wood, limestone, and kelp seedlings, materials that are meant to address the climate problem in some way: The wood represents forest carbon that would otherwise be thrown out or incinerated, the limestone helps reverse ocean acidification, and, most important, the kelp grows ultrafast, absorbing carbon from the land and sea. Eventually, the buoy is meant to break down, with the limestone dissolving and the wood and kelp drifting to the bottom of the seafloor…”

hc about how lucie and diego met
diego got a scholarship to study in france for a semester or two. he was some kind of engineering major, something kinda unusual like a materials or a geological engineer but he didn’t really like the course that much. diego was a lot more interested in traveling around and collecting souvenirs, making memories— meeting people.
in france, he met lucie. lucie was a journalism student, nearly graduated at that point. he didn’t speak a whole lot of french, and she couldn’t speak portuguese at all but it didn’t matter. they hit it off incredibly well, for some reason. bonded over the way they saw the world, and what they disagreed in they could easily brush aside. diego and lucie became colleagues, then quickly good friends, then more.
when diego’s scholarship ended and he had to return to brazil, lucie came with. with a freshly obtained journalism degree, many assorted clothing items from trips around europe and very little money between them, they rented an apartment in brazil and decided to live together. diego, upon returning, decided to take a year off from uni — he hasn’t dropped out, but coming back isn’t in the foreseeable future. in brazil we call this trancar o curso. diego and lucie have been inseparable ever since.

@misplacedreporter - from (x)
“C’mon, Meryl. It’s Know-vember! The scholarly city! The finest minds in all of No Man’s Land, gathered here for the noble pursuit of academia.”
They talk while they walk. Vash spreads his arms wide and wiggles his fingers for dramatic emphasis on the word ‘academia.’
The last time he was here with Brad, the salvaged data cluster from the SEEDS ship that had crashed here served as the fledgling university's foundation for understanding lost tech. An ever present reminder now encased into the ceiling of the central apse of the fallen observation deck that had been converted into the main library. The mass of circuitry and silicon had been preserved in plastisteel once all the data was spooled out, carefully transcribed and organized into analog copies in the event of Plant failure.
Look up to remember that humanity came from the stars, and that they could yet achieve those heights once more. Nothing from the spacefaring age was magical. Technology could be understood, reverse-engineered, and learned from. The founding faculty believed in that mission.
November has grown since then.
“Your old stomping grounds. Aren't you excited?" Vash neatly pirouettes around a pair of head-bowed uniformed students lost in discussion regarding their latest lecture on the importance of conducting a thorough geological survey and the topic of why does it even matter if this stupid rock was a single-biome planet anyway? The students' heads lean even closer to each other as he and Meryl pass, their tones shade haughty, and one of them glances at Vash with all the nerve of someone who has found gum under their shoe.
