With a simple flick of the fingers of my right hand, I disappeared from Roktor's clutches, avoiding to get my bones cracked for sure. I thanked Miri one more time for the precious gift she gave us, her relocation rings. Zinnya was less lucky, hers broke irreversibly a while ago; but mine and Hoyt's were still working, and they didn't abandon us yet.
"Oh." He stared at me with a new spark in his gaze. He raised his head to lock eyes with mine once more. I was right there. Free, but floating right in front of his face; away from where he wanted me, but still in his reach.
"...you could have run away, as far from danger as you could have. And yet, you stupidly decided to stay right here and confront me still. This is something I can respect." Everyone's breath remained suspended. He snapped ferociously to any interruption of this pause: "I'm trying to realize why I should even care about this situation. I don't CARE if some nobodies died to it. I don't CARE about the cattle it eats. I'm trying to understand if it can be worth facing for ME, for someone STRONG." He sniffed the waters and bared his teeth once more, growling angrily until he started talking again. "So who are you? Who are the ones you came with, hiding behind the cursed rocks?"
I turned towards the others when I caught movement from my left with the corner of my eye. Both the rogue and the witch were approaching now, and I heard Zinnya starting to talk, introducing herself and starting to say things that angered him further more. I couldn't hold back from giving her an alarmed side eye, but then I caught the occasion and spaced out for a few seconds, focusing on where my own familiar was. His warnings had to have been enough; if Cila wanted to do anything, she had plenty of chances to understand it was the right time. I recalled it by my side, and the jellyfish quietly appeared close to me, immediately latching onto my skin and hiding under my scarf behind my neck. I reached back to pat its cap with my tentacle and quietly commanded it to go and stay by Hoyt's side for now. Things were about to get complicated.
"I asked you who you are - I don't care about your accomplishments either! Show me why I should consider your opinions on this creature of yours!!"
"Is that a challenge you're proposing?" I asked in a very low tone, my rage boiling through it. He sneered to my question, so I continued, regaining some composure. "Let's move away from the Fountain - Opak and the Cemetery are to be involved into this no longer."
I indicated one of the far edges of the Fountain, one that looked upon part of the abyss of the freshwater side of the city. I finally exchanged one more look with the others, and they both seemed to convene for once - I could tell from just their attitudes - this was a horrible idea. I couldn't agree more, but I started following the reptilian combatant anyway. I stared at Zinnya as she transformed her familiar, Svalek, into a canine creature - his battle form - and nervously tried to figure out how to face such an opponent with the spells at her disposal. Then I moved to Hoyt, and I saw him swimming silently in position, not too far from Roktor, with both his swords in hand. The General opened his arms wide. He was waiting for us to have our first moves.
Here, at the present moment - here we are, still all together, in front of this mountain of a General that put us to the test.

“My turn...I was so busy listening to everybody else’s that I hadn’t thought of one to tell, myself!” The Tribeling admits, humming thoughtfully as he holds his hands out toward the fire to chase away the chill that the night had brought along with it.
“Hmm...what about a story from the Territories? It’s from back when the realm was still young, and new. Inhabited by a Pirodeti named Wilacrí.”
“Wilacrí was surrounded by other, older realms that were seen as being much more bountiful and beautiful than it. Easier and safer to live in. And so, for a long time, the realm was near empty; aside from those that would pass through it to get to other places. The days were long and lonely, and just when Wilacrí started to consider giving up, the Pirodeti found an egg, abandoned just inside the border of the realm.”
“Curious as to what it could be, Wilacrí decided to take the egg. When she touched it, she could feel the life moving about inside it still, as if it had been waiting for her. It’s said that at even from that first moment, she felt a bond with the little one growing inside the egg, and so she brought it back to her heart.”
“Each day, she would talk to it. Tell it stories, and hopes, and dreams for what was yet to come. Each night, she would hold it close, and protect it from fear and from harm as she slept. Until one day, the egg finally hatched, and out crawled a dragonling that she named Luelach-- Beloved One.”
“Wilacrí loved him as her own, and raised him with care; teaching Luelach everything that he might need to know in life. And before either of them knew it, he had grown into a dragon said to rival even the size of Leviathan. She too, had grown-- once barren and uninhabitable lands having changed. Rivers and springs bubbling up from the ground, and plants and animals spreading about wildly. Natural disasters quelling, and the climate stabilizing...all to make the realm into a place that her son could thrive, and live happily.”
“During that time, other beings that passed through came to know the two, and in time, had come to love the realm. People began to settle there to live; though few as they were, and their family grew. Wilacrí named them the Beasku’u, which means Little Family, but back then was mistranslated as little tribe instead. Which is where the name that most beings know us as-- the Tribelings-- originated from.”
“Anyway...even though Wilacrí now had people living in her realm, by then, it was already too late. She had gone so long without people to help sustain her, that she had slowly begun to die even before she had found the Luelach’s egg. Too long a time had passed for her to have been saved...”
“But they still tried. Luelach, and the Beasku’u did everything that they could to save her. And yet, nothing seemed to work. Nobody seemed to know what to do to help. Fear and despair fell over the realm like a blanket. Fear of losing this place that they’d come to call their home, and despair over the thought of losing someone that they’d all come to hold so dear.”
“And she felt guilt over putting them in this position, knowing that it couldn’t last forever. Knowing that she would only be able to give them a few centuries of happiness before she would have to leave them. She would soon be dying, and her realm would crumble away to nothing, and the space it once stood would be taken by the surrounding realms in a blink.”
“One night, Wilacrí spoke to Luelach, as he lay curled around her in much the same way that she once had with him. She expressed to him how she wished there could be some way that her realm not disappear when she died. To leave something behind to say that she had been there. Something that would help her little family for generations and generations to come.”
“Luelach listened closely to his mother, and when she finally fell quiet, an idea came to him. Wilacrí didn’t like it, but after some convincing, they came to an agreement.”
“The time came faster than they would have liked, and when it did, everyone gathered in the heart of the realm to bid Wilacrí farewell...and were surprised when Kikei, the Lifegiver of the time, appeared there as well.”
“Luelach took the opportunity to stand before the Beasku’u, and tell them of the plan that he and his mother had agreed upon. That he would die alongside Wilacrí, and in doing so, use his body to keep the realm from falling apart when she died.”
“But that wasn’t all, he told them, looking to Kikei. It was Wilacrí that spoke next, telling them that she wanted to leave them with more than just a realm to live in. That she and Luelach had called Kikei there to break up their souls when they passed, and give them to the Beasku’u that had so loyally stood with them for so long. With this, she said, not only do each of you become my children, but your descendants after you will be so as well. With Luelach’s soul, they became destined to a beast that would protect and live alongside them-- starting the tradition of the Tribeling’s bonded beast partners.”
Cila smiles a little, though it’s easy to see the misting of tears in his eyes when his hand comes to rest on Set’s nose, who laid beside him with a content rumble.
“They both died that day, but it’s because of them that we Tribelings are where and what we are today. Though to be honest, it’s a story that most had forgotten for a long time...which is a shame, because it’s one of my favorites...~”

31 Days of Unedited Writing: Days 22-31
I’M DONE.
7 or 8 Fanfiction (Dark Parables/various Mystery Case Files games starring OC Moira, Viking Destiny, and Dragon Prophecy trilogy) and 3 or 4 Original Fiction. I’m tired and my math is trite.
I strongly advise skipping Day 26 if you’re averse to descriptions of popping pimples!
Day 22: Fanfiction, Mystery Case Files: Escape from Ravenhearst
Moira’s hands shook. The animatronic newborn’s eyes flashed different colors. Red. Green. Blue. Those were the colors of the wires it was attached to as well. The eyes changed colors too fast. How was she going to know which wire to clip?
She aimed the wire cutters at the far-left wire and counted to three. Snipped the red wire when the eyes were—
Green.
A gurgle was her only warning to dive out of the way as the newborn exploded.
Day 23: Fanfiction, Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst Unlocked
She remembered an explosion. Fireball of debris racing toward her. She ran. Her only option had been to—
Jump.
Cold ocean sea at night. The water dragged her under.
Boat. Someone pulled her out of the water.
Bright light. Loud beeps. Numb. Her eyes open. Barely. She hurts but has enough pain tolerance to lift her arm where it hurts worst. A thick sutured scar runs from the end of her palm and down part of her wrist. It glows.
Someone is talking. She hears words. Injuries. Delirious. Her?
Red hair. Posh accent.
“A transfer to Manchester Asylum—closest in county—"
She can’t do anything to stop them. Her mind is screaming but she’s too drugged to vocalize.
Anything. Anything but there.
Day 24: Original Fiction, codename Grisaverse
The sheer amount of spellwork surrounding the black crystal makes Davaros’s blood run cold. There’s a whole network of weavings, as thick as rope in some places and as thin as spiderwebs in others. All of them link to the crystal’s strange, hollow center. The weaving had gone on for generations. Since—
“Luc, there’s no way we can undo all of this in two months. Lady Grisa will know we’re tampering with it.”
“That demon in your body was pretty damn adamant that his Prince was being held hostage in there, having his power siphoned away,” Luc replied. “He’ll probably help us free him. If you’ve been held hostage for centuries and have your powers taken from you, you’d be angry about it. Right?”
“R-Right.” It’s the most Davaros can say right now; he can feel Moseptus crawling under his skin, can feel he wants to emerge and take over. He doesn’t want to vomit more blood as payment. He loses focus and then feels Lukasz snap the shields back into place.
Day 25: Fanfiction, Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst
Moira ran up to the car and pounded on the window. Sterling rolled it down hurriedly, shocked at her disheveled appearance.
“Moira, I asked you to take pictures of the door locks! What happened?”
“There’s a skeleton in the house!” she exclaimed. “I think it’s Emma’s body, from the journal—”
Silence. Moira’s heart thunders in her chest. Sterling has the audacity to shrug.
“Are you sure it’s not a prank?”
“The bones aren’t made of shitty plastic and the coffin smelled,” Moira snapped. “Follow me.”
Day 26: Fanfiction, Mystery Case Files: Escape from Ravenhearst
The bed frame creaked dangerously as Moira straddled the obese Dalimar matriarch’s gut. She forced to herself to breathe through her mouth, trying to not smell the piles and piles of plates covered in rotting leftovers of food that lined both sides of the bed. Abigail was hurling verbal abuse at her, but it was easy to tune out. The abuse was for her son, not her.
There was really no other way to accomplish this task, was there?
The hand clutching a pair of tweezers shook violently.
Just—just squeeze! She shouted at herself.
She positioned the tweezers on a fat pimple on Abigail’s cheek, closed her eyes, and squeezed. Pus popped out and landed close to the open wound. Moira opened her eyes and grabbed the pus, putting it in her gloved palm.
She was grateful this was an animatronic doll, and what she was forced to get was solid and fake.
It didn’t make it any less disgusting.
(This is a real thing that happens in-game. It’s as nasty as it sounds.)
Day 27: Fanfiction, Dark Parables (Not sure which games, but probably the later/newest ones)
She tries to not think about anything involving her life late at night. But sometimes, the dark thoughts creep in in the haze between waking and sleeping, or when she catches a glimpse of herself in a mirror. She’s approaching forty, yet she doesn’t look or feel it.
Well, the latter might be a bit of a stretch. She’s resilient enough but can’t bounce back on her feet as fast as she’d like after taking a hard fall from a great height or falling victim to yet another unfortunate carriage accident. It’s a miracle she didn’t break every vertebra in her back after that one incident in Montefleur.
Day 28: Fanfiction, Dragon Prophecy trilogy
Harwing’s forehead stung. The foolishness of it all, walking straight into a tent pole while trying to make a hasty retreat from Lord Vieliessar’s pavilion.
Fortunately, the distance between the High King’s camp and that of House Mangiralas’s was long enough for him to gather his thoughts and rehearse what was written on the paper Aradreleg gave him. Memorizing the words of a formal declaration of surrender was no issue – his spy training saw to that – but the tight knot in his stomach was going to make him stumble over the words as he recited them.
He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
“To Warlord Faurilduin, Ladyholder of—wait.”
He gazed at the paper. Aradreleg’s tidy handwriting stared back at him, clearly listing which titles came first. It was just a matter of reciting them in the correct order.
“To Ladyholder Faurilduin, Mangiralas’s Warlord—”
Mangiralas’s camp became perilously closer with each step he took.
Day 29: Fanfiction, Dragon Prophecy trilogy
He could see the mistakes those assistants had made as clear as day, but for every situation he mentally changed, every course of action he took differently, the chain of events still led to Gunedwaen’s capture by Caerthalien’s forces and his century in hiding, crippled and cast aside to die at War Prince Bolecthindial’s amusement, never able to fight again.
If he had seen that result, in his imaginings as one of those assistants, would he have killed Gunedwaen as an act of mercy?
For a split second, he felt like he wouldn’t have had the strength to do that. Not just out of loyalty, but out of love as well.
Was it a love born of loyalty?
His gratitude toward Lord Thoromarth was one brand of loyalty. His upbringing within Oronviel itself, even as the son of a lowly castel Horsemaster, was a sort of loyalty itself toward the House. If he fought alongside Lord Thoromarth in battle and was ordered to kill him to spare him from being captured, he would do it without hesitation.
But if he had been on that battlefield on a rainy autumn, holding a dagger and staring down at a badly injured Gunedwaen and told to deliver the same mercy kill—
He wouldn’t do it. Couldn’t. He would try to save him, against all odds.
Day 30: Fanfiction, Viking Destiny
Asmund has been keeping his half-brother in check admirably well these past few years, and he does not want to instigate an unneeded conflict or shatter his oaths and relationship with his king beyond repair.
“I once knew a brave and loyal shieldmaiden named Alva,” he replied instead. He chose his next words with care, not wanting to clue the princess in on her true heritage just yet. “She served King Asmund and was his fiercest warrior. I can teach you to fight like her - and your father does not have to know about it. It will be our secret.”
Helle’s face lit up. “I want to fight like a warrior!” she exclaimed.
Soini made urgent shushing noises, and Helle reluctantly calmed down.
“We will start at first light next--”
“Helle?”
Both Soini and Helle turned toward the sound of Prince Bard’s voice. Soini didn’t see his shadow looming over them in the darkness, but he sounded relatively close.
“Will we meet here?” Helle whispered hurriedly.
“HELLE!”
“Yes. Go to your father before he finds you,” Soini answered.
Day 31: Original Fiction, codename Sleeping Princess
Cila inched closer. She couldn't see the rise and fall of the stranger's chest that indicated she was breathing… but the woman wasn't dead either. There was no smell of decay and rot. Cila reached out for the woman's hanging arm--
--and stepped back in fear.
All around the bed was a spell caul of her father's making, a caul to trap someone in a magic-induced sleep. Cila knew she could have been affected by the caul’s effects if she’d touched the woman's arm.
She contemplated trying to unweave it. It was a task far beyond her ability to unweave spells - but she could try. Her father was holding this woman hostage, whoever she was. It didn't feel right to leave her under the thrall of the royal family, much less her father.
Her father believed her to have no magic at all, not realizing that she had been a late bloomer. She had kept her knowledge of her magic to herself, practicing her unweaving on the most basic of wards that anyone could trigger by accident. She had escaped getting caught - so far.
But a creeping doubt caught hold of her heart. Even if she unwove the caul, even if she freed this woman, what would she do? Cila didn't know this woman's name and she didn't know where she was from. She couldn't disguise this woman as a servant - the royal family would identify her in an instant.
Cila could help the woman escape. She knew all the secret passages out of the palace… but so did the royal family. Even worse, her father could discover her using magic and undoing his work. The beating she would receive from him would among the worst in her life. Her bruised back ached, a reminder of the most recent one at the hands of Gilla.
What was she going to do?
An idea formed in her mind. Father didn't know she could do magic - yet - and thus didn't know of her talent. If he discovered the caul being undone, he could suspect one of his rivals was doing it. Risky, as her father could strengthen the caul, but it would mean more practice for her… and more chances to get caught, if Father disabled his rivals’ magic.
She could try. There was nothing wrong with trying.

2019 Distinguished Visiting Humanist, Hazel V. Carby DAY 1: Thursday, January 31, 2019 9:30-11:00: From Kingston to Bristol and Back Again: In the Imperial Archives with Hazel Carby (Plutzik Room/Special Collections)
Led by Pablo M. Sierra Silva (History) and Miranda Mims (Special Collections), this session will explore a series of questions based on selections both the discussants and participants will have read in advance from Professor Carby’s forthcoming book Imperial Intimacies: A Tale of Two Islands (Verso 2019): How does one do archival research on the culture, politics, and history of race, gender, and empire? What is at stake in doing so? What stories emerge? And how do those stakes and stories differ—and perhaps even conflict—depending on one’s intellectual position? In what ways does the archive work differently for the cultural studies scholar, the historian, and the archivist?
4:30-6:30: Black Studies Now: A Roundtable with Hazel Carby (Humanities Center Room D) Open to the public.
What is the state of black studies at the University of Rochester—and in the world? What shape should black studies take at UR? What does it mean to study race and racial formations at this point in political and intellectual history—and to do so in Rochester? Central to making African and African American Studies a world-renowned department at Yale University, Professor Carby will discuss these questions with UR faculty and the audience.
Led by Jeffrey Tucker (English), with William Bridges (Japanese; Modern Languages and Cultures), Cory Hunter (Frederick Douglass Institute; Music), Cilas Kemedjio (French; Modern Languages and Cultures; Director of the Frederick Douglass Institute), Kathryn Mariner (Anthropology; Visual and Cultural Studies), Darren Mueller (Eastman; Musicology), and Matthew Omelsky (English).
BIOGRAPHY
Hazel V. Carby is the Charles C. and Dorathea S. Dilley Professor of African American Studies, Professor of American Studies, and Director of the Initiative on Race, Gender, and Globalization at Yale University. She is one of the most influential scholars of culture and cultural politics of the past forty years. A major force in bringing cultural studies—especially as it descends from her extremely important teacher, Stuart Hall—to the United States, she has shaped generations of scholars through her writing and teaching. Recipient of the Jay B. Hubbell Medal for Lifetime Achievement in American Literary Studies from the Modern Language Association, she is the author of four books. In 1987, Carby published Reconstructing Womanhood: The Emergence of the Afro-American Woman Novelist (Oxford University Press), which charts the rise of black woman intellectuals in the 19th and 20th centuries along with “the forms in which [they] made political as well as literary interventions in the social formations in which they lived.” This was followed in 1998 by Race Men (Harvard University Press), which interrogates the cultural politics of black masculinity in the 20th century. A collection of essays, Cultures in Babylon: Black Britain and African America (Verso), came out in 1999; it includes writing on, among other topics, blues, gender, and migration, and race, multiculturalism, and the academy. Imperial Intimacies: A Tale of Two Islands will be published by Verso in 2019. In it, Carby explores the vexed history connecting Great Britain and Jamaica through not only the story of her Welsh mother and Jamaican father, but also extensive research in the national archives of both countries related to the deep roots—and extensive routes—of that story. A powerful speaker, Carby is unflinchingly committed to confronting issues of race, gender, sexuality, and class, including those that the University of Rochester currently faces as a major site of research and education located in a city with its own richly complicated history around these issues.

"Hoyt? Is everything alright?"
It's been a while since I and Zinnya heard the noises from his room. I took my time to get ready and come out of the room compared to her; with some meditation, my oracular curse is also back in control, with just some minor fatigue and excessive glowing from my body. The waving of my skirt and hair all around me could easily be mistaken as flowing movements because of the water. After all, that's also what made it show so much less when I was younger, in the lake. But, above all, now I can swim normally without the collateral flaw of risking to float up because of my lighter weight. And now that I'm fully ready, before going out, I decide to knock on our assassin's door.
"Uh... yes. Much better than an hour ago, thank you. The loss of the book had me shaken, to say the least."
"May I come in?"
I only spend few minutes with him. He seems to be back to his usual demeanor, already busy with some kind of reverse engineering project. "I don't know how long it will take, but we're going to need stronger potions to sustain ourselves from now on."
"Are you equipped with everything you need for it?"
"Yes, don't worry about it."
"Well, in that case... have a good work and afternoon! I will be back soon, and if you need anything, knock on the door." I already know he won't, but I won't let him forget he's got my support. With that said, I swim outside of his room and close the door behind me, then head directly out to the orphanage nearby.
When we first saw the big building, cut in half by the current that divides the freshwater side of Outsea from the saltwater one, it was heavily guarded and impossible to approach. After we spoke to Cila and found her completely favorable to my cause, we also had permission to swim in and meet the little inhabitants of the place. One of them is called Onimia: she's one of the two survivors who came from the Lake of Mists and Veils mere days ago and escaped the clutches of the Vitalia. Lidya, her younger sister, prefers to roam freely through the freshwater area and we never had a chance to find her; but I had quite a few occasions to approach the older one. When I find her, she rushes to me.
Rumors about the fight with Roktor had already spread around the city - that was much quicker than I expected. Even the kids seem to know; and Onimia isn't naive nor blind, and the marks on my body speak very clearly. "I heard someone even died..." she murmurs with tears in her big, golden eyes. Ouch. How could I be so reckless. She just lost her caretaker, the man that carried her and Lydia to safety here in Outsea, and I was about to prolong her nightmare. I hug her tight to it, stroking her hair and letting her lean on me, trying to transmit her as much calmness as I can manage despite the little stab.
"Don't worry, little one... it is true, there was a fight, but everything went fine in the end and even the one who died managed to get back to life. I told you, I came here with my friends to ask help for our lake. And we did it! Outsea will help us defeat that monster, and you won't have to worry about such danger ever again when you come back home."
She seems relieved to the words, but also holds me tighter. "I don't want to go back there if it's dangerous. I very much prefer it here." I chuckle to that. "Of course!"
I cautiously shift the conversation to other topics, and I also catch the chance to inform her about our early departure. "We will have to leave for a while, but when the time comes we will all be back, and I'll come right back to visit you." Around half an hour flows by like it's nothing, and I find myself quite at ease. I grew up in a similar structure as well, and I feel pretty comfortable around the young ones... it kind of feels like home.
But unfortunately, I cannot afford much more time out. With the adrenaline dropping, I'm starting to feel the exhaustion on my body pretty clearly. So at some point I let her go to spend more time with the other kids, and I move on to my next destination, the Fountain, again.
~ ☆ ~ ☆
When I reach the Fountain, Opak is still working to fix the mess Roktor caused. I approach him carefully, watching over his doing and fidgeting with my hands a little before greeting him again. "Am I disturbing you?" But he simply stops for now, and I have his attention. It is actually him catching the chance to apologize to me as well for what happened.
"For what importance it may hold or not... I am sorry I couldn't intervene through the fight. I couldn't convince Roktor to back off when he challenged you, and I couldn't do anything but call the others when things got bad. I'm not as strong as some of the other Generals; and yet, what I did couldn't be enough."
"It's fine... I don't hold any grudge against you, and I know you were watching over us while we were fighting. I saw you cast. You could have just turned to the other way. Besides, I know fighting isn't your calling; mine brought me on this path, and I am aware of its risks."
"It is certainly different, yes. Mine is a quiet calling, while yours... not so much. But each one of us has their own."
"Speaking about it, I actually have come with a request specifically for you." I stop and make myself small in my shoulders while I wait for an answer, then I raise my eyes and see him nodding, listening. I sigh and take off my pirate hat. I retrieve the little blue flag pin that has us recognized as Heroes of Deadbridge under the rule of the new Blue Marquis, then I turn it in my hands...
"You see... this is not the first time I risk to not open my eyes again, and dying a second time really put things in perspective, more than before. I... want to pay respect to the people that fell in the lake, with the little I have left of them to be remembered with." I look up at him again, melancholy and regret in my eyes. "When I found this hat, I was exploring a shipwreck with a friend of mine, one that just recently fell near my town. We found personal belongings and clothes intact, but we found no bodies nearby, and we were naive enough to not ask ourselves why. Now I know that these people from the surface died to the Vitalia as well, and who knows how many more. So I want to leave you this hat, to remember the ones from the surface..."
"This spear, which belonged to the same fighter that wore this armor I have, for the fallen from Jaha..."
"And some of these seashells, for the rest of the people from the whole Lake."
I hold the symbols I just named close to me, waiting for an answer, and I see him narrowing his eyes. I give a sad smile. "I don't know if you can do anything at all with these, but they're all I have..."
"This is not how I usually work, but it doesn't cost me anything. I'll do what I can."
I sigh in relief and hand him over some of the belongings I was most attached to. I am sad to leave them behind, but it's for the best. Many more people need to remember those people, not just me. Many more must know... they shall not be gone with me, if things come to worst again. I can't help to keep acting for that purpose. I need to be ready for whatever comes next, and I keep repeating it to myself: I have to be ready.
"Thank you so." I hold my arms with the hands, and the grip gets tight a few moments later, as my thoughts flow out in words. "I don't want them to be forgotten, going to the other side is... well..." I take a moment, trying to find the right way to continue. "You know, I was even called an anomaly by someone there..."
"I can understand why, at least from my point of view." I'm surprised by such a prompt response and refrain from continuing, blinking my eyes and tilting the head in surprise. He takes a breath and continues, accompanying the speech with his free arm. "As I was saying, I'm not that strong, and I don't know any mean to bring people back to life. Your friends asked me if I could do anything about it, so I suppose they're also unaware; and even if Cila is a very powerful priestess, I'm pretty sure she's also unprovided of solutions to something as drastic as death. And yet, somehow, here you are. You opened your eyes again, after I saw you being eaten by Roktor with my eyes. Of course, this makes you an anomaly."
"Well... yes, of course it makes sense..." I glance at the bright diamonds at the center of the Fountain. I recall Pharasma's words again, about how this gift is something so rarely allowed. There are so many questions left unanswered... but I can't bring myself to talk about them with Opak, not anymore. This is going to be enough. Soon after, I part ways with him, and he recommends to be careful this time, and to have a safe trip.
I find myself alone in my room, finally able to rest a little. I can't sleep though; my mind keeps wandering through the enormous amount of events I just went through in so little time. I focus so much on the place where I supposedly spoke to the brothers, and I can't help but assume that this placr and the sphere I saw being filled with Black Tears where I met Arshea the last time are somehow connected. I keep focusing on it... ans at some point, I get a vision that lasts for just few seconds.
I'm standing on a long road of blue and violet hues, large and dotted in white, which runs to the horizon. On its sides, many other thinner paths branch and proceed straight ahead in their directions: the first one on my left is white, and the others all follow similarly light hues; the first one on my right is black, and it opens a similar series of parallel dark lines. No one walks with me, and I can't turn back. I can't help but wonder what it means...

Illinois Regulator Issues Proposed Predatory Loan Prevention Act Regulations; Lawsuits Filed To Block Implementation Of Act’s Database Reporting Requirement And For Declaration Act Does Not Apply To Pawn Transactions – Consumer Protection
United States:
Illinois Regulators Publish Proposed Predatory Loan Prevention Act ordinances; Lawsuits filed to block the implementation of the database reporting requirement of the law and the Declarations Act does not apply to pledge transactions

In March 2021, Illinois Governor Pritzker signed Act SB 1792, which contains the Predatory Loan Prevention Act (the “Act”). The new law went into effect immediately upon signature, regardless of the power it gives the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (“IDFPR”) to make rules “in accordance with” [the] Plot.”
The act extends the 36% “all-in” funding limit of the Federal Military Loans Act (MLA) of the Federal Military Loans Act (MAPR) to “any individual or legal entity offering or making a loan to an Illinois consumer,” unless a loan was granted by a legally exempt agency. The law provides that any loan that exceeds a MAPR of 36% will be considered null and void and no company will have the right to capital, fees, interest or charges related to the loan. ”Any violation of the law will punished with a fine of up to US $ 10,000.
Proposed regulations. The IDFPR has proposed rules to implement the law. In addition to the section on definitions (section 215.10), the proposal includes a section on loan terms (section 215.20). The credit terms discussed in Section 215.20 include:
Calculation of the APR for purposes of the law (i.e. which fees must be included in the APR)
Bona fide fees charged on credit card accounts that may be excluded from APR, including standards for assessing whether a bona fide fee is appropriate, an adequate safe haven for the bona fide fee, and references the appropriateness of the entry fees
The impact of funding fees on bona fide fees
In addition to these proposed law enforcement ordinances, the IDFPR has simultaneously proposed changes to the Illinois Consumer Installment Loans Act and the Payday Loan Reform Act. These changes propose extending the material and disclosure restrictions previously targeted at high APR payday and auto title loan programs to loans with a MAPR of 36% or less without change. For example, a premium credit secured by a consumer vehicle with a MAPR of 1% would be subject to a $ 4,000 capital limit, refinancing and gross monthly income limits, check and various leaflets and disclosure requirements that apply to a loan with a MAPRs of 36% or less make little sense.
Lawsuit to block the database reporting requirement of the law. Before the law went into effect, only lenders granting certain more expensive loans at an annual interest rate of over 36% were required to report credit information to a government database maintained by Veritec. The law amended the Illinois Consumer Installment Loans Act (“CILA”) to require all licensed lenders, regardless of the interest rate charged, to pay Veritec fees on each loan and to report information about the loan to the database. With the law going into effect immediately and Veritec’s onboarding typically taking several months, Illinois lenders were initially faced with the challenge of either breaking the amended law or stopping all lending operations. To address this dilemma, the IDFPR issued a notice in April 2021 stating that it would “not take any adverse regulatory or enforcement action for reporting violations until further notice” under applicable Illinois law.
The American Financial Services Association and the Illinois Financial Services Association have filed a lawsuit against the IDFPR to prohibit the implementation of the reporting requirement of the law retrospectively March 23, 2021 and to require a statement that the requirement is unconstitutional and non-compliant. In its complaint, IFSA alleges that despite the impossibility of complying with civil law procedures, licensed lenders may be subject to the CILA and that implementation of the law exposes consumer finance lenders to significant risk of loss.
The action to explain the law does not extend to pawn shops. Two trading groups and two pawnbroking companies have filed a lawsuit against the IDFPR to explain that the law does not apply to pawn shops unless and until the IDFPR passes its regulations to implement the Illinois Pawnbroker Regulation Act (“PRA”) amends or cancels. which are incompatible with the law. The PRA requires pawnbrokers to be licensed by the IDFPR to lawfully operate in Illinois and sets out the permitted terms and funding fees for pawn shops.
In April 2021, the IDFPR published a series of FAQs on the law, listing “pawn loans” as an example of loans that fall under the law. In their complaint https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/consumer-law/1080620/illinois-regulator-issues-proposed-predatory-loan-prevention-act-regulations-lawsuits-filed-to-block-implementation-of-act39s-database-reporting-requirement-and-for-declaration-act-does-not-apply-to-pawn-transactions, plaintiffs allege that the law does not change the PRA or contain any reference to pawn shops. They also claim that the law’s legislative history suggests that the law was never intended to affect the pawnbroker industry. According to plaintiffs, the IDFPR has not provided the pawnbroking industry with guidance on key issues such as how the law and the PRA interact and what, if anything, should be changed from a compliance perspective regarding the conduct of pawn shops.
Plaintiffs allege that as a result of their FAQs, “the IDFPR not only raised a myriad of questions about how the pawnbroker industry in Illinois worked, but it did so while setting a goal on the back of the industry and” opening up for consumer litigation. “Plaintiffs also claim that if the 36% APR limit were to apply to pawn shops,” it would have a devastating impact on the industry and likely result in the closure of most, if not all, Illinois pawn shops because the deposit segment is the company’s main source of income. “

#TheWho
Idlewild has always been a place regarded as affluence, generational wealth, and status. Between the year round locals, and the annual summer residents, the historic black community has a population of nearly 3,000 during the summer season, but only 900 folks year round. But who are these Idlewilders? Who stated this community and who maintains this beautiful black Eden, a paradise to some, a mosquito nightmare to city dwellers.

“Sef! There you are~! I couldn’t read you anywhere in Hell or Paleros, so it took me a long time to find you!” The Tribeling king waved in Sef’s general direction. Given the fact that the Horseman hadn’t been looking directly at him when he’d approached, it was just a little difficult for Cila to get over there on his own. When he did though, arms wrapped around the other’s neck, and an affectionate kiss was pressed to their forehead.
A little taste never hurt, and Sef’s energy was always especially delicious. (A virgins always was!) They didn’t usually mind it either, since...well, then they didn’t have to deal with getting pent up later on.
Tumblr media
“Looking utterly breathtaking as usual, Cil~ You should have called me; I could’ve saved you all that wandering! Though knowing you, I’m sure you enjoyed talking to everyone you crossed paths with. So? I take it you’ve something for me~?”
Tumblr media
“Mhm, I do! I came to tell you that I found her-- she came out of the inner ruins earlier today, and has been wandering around just outside the tribes ever since!”
Tumblr media
Smile fades immediately, and their cheery act drops along with it. “And him? Has he found her, yet?”
Tumblr media
“Not that I’ve noticed...it seems like it’s just her. Here...” Hands lift, and press gently to Sef’s temples to help smooth the flow of his telepathy into their mind. Showing them exactly where to go, along with what he’d been reading from her. “Is that enough?”
Tumblr media
“It’s enough. Thank you Cil, I owe you again. I have to--”
Tumblr media
“It’s okay, I understand. If you were waiting for someone, I’ll tell them that you had something come up! Good luck, don’t die!”

‘Swab and Go’ Covid-19 testing facility launched in Clark
#PHnews: ‘Swab and Go’ Covid-19 testing facility launched in Clark
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga – A facility that aims to provide a reasonably-priced and convenient way for locators and employees to be tested for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) was launched here on Tuesday.
Dubbed “Swab and Go,” the project was initiated by the Clark Development Corporation (CDC), in collaboration with the provincial government of Pampanga and the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH).
CDC president and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan, in his speech during the live stream event, cited the importance of having a testing facility here.
“It is really important to have a testing facility here. This is for our workers and stakeholders and it is important that they can be tested so that the spread of the virus can be mitigated. I hope that we can quickly recover from this (pandemic) and it is for the best interest of, not only our locators but also for the government and the economy,” he said.
Gaerlan said the facility is a vital tool in addressing the increasing demand for reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing as it also responds to sustain economic activity in the Freeport.
The "Swab and Go" site is located at the open space parking lot in front of the CDC–Health and Sanitation Division (HSD), and its main booth in the site was donated by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Free wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) connection was likewise be provided in the area by PLDT-Clark.
Meanwhile, the “Swab and Go” process will be operated by medical professionals from JBLMGH Molecular Pathology Laboratory, one of the three molecular laboratories in the Philippines that pioneered the conduct of pooled RT-PCR testing in the country.
The other two laboratories are UP Molecular Laboratory System, Philippine Children’s Medical Center in Quezon City.
Currently, there are only 12 institutions certified by the DOH to do the pooled RT-PCR testing.
Similar to a drive-thru testing site, the “Swab and Go” facility will help to fast-track the process of testing suspected and probable Covid-positive individuals.
The testing is done in a four-step process, namely registration, verification, payment, and swabbing.
Specimen from individuals who will undergo RT-PCR in the facility will then be transported to the laboratory of JBLMGH for further testing and confirmation.
The cost of the testing in the facility will be at PHP900 per person if conducted under a pool RT-PCR testing approach with a minimum of five persons in a group.
It is cheaper compared to those other facilities available in the market.
Qualified individuals who may avail of the pooled RT-PCR testing are determined based on certain categories and the Department of Health (DOH) reference list.
Clark workers fall under the economic workers’ category and are qualified to avail of the test in the facility.
For those who are not qualified for pool testing, a regular rate will be charged with an applicable discount for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and government employees.
The CDC has collaborated with Clark Investors and Locators Association (CILA) to provide the service to stakeholders in the Freeport.
CILA is also set to sign a memorandum of agreement with JBLMGH, similar to the signed partnership of CDC and JBLMGH.
With the recent surge of Covid-19 cases in the region and adherence to the resolutions provided by the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), the CDC has also issued stringent guidelines on the implementation of standard health protocols inside the Freeport. (PNA)
