Any ideas for a Gypsum gem?

Isn't that a Desert Rose? 🤔

Anyway-

Gypsum is a very abundant mineral but in gem-quality terms, crystals are very rare. This material is also extremely difficult to facet but very easy to carve.

Hmm. Maybe they could be in groups, like the Famethysts and Holy Blue Agate. The more common Gypsums having a very simple gem and the leader having the faceted gem.

Their natural colors are colorless (or transparent how I like to call it), white, gray and black while impurities make it have a a little more of color. In this case, defective gems would be more easy to detect due to the impurities being easy to see at first sigh?

More Gypsum varieties can be:

Selenite - Colorless, transparent crystals.

Alabaster - More commonly used in artisan stuff due to being easy to carve.

Satin Spar - Can be carved or cabbed. Sometimes it has a "cat's eye" effect on its gemstone. Egg-shaped Satin Spars sometimes were called "Pharaoh's Eggs" and were purpoted to be lucky.

Ram’s Horn - Some gypsum crystals that can be formed in a shape that resembles a ram's horn.

Desert Rose - In desert regions, Barites and Gypsums can form with tubular crystals with rose-like shapes.

Some Gypsums, but not all, may luminesce, showing both fluorescent and phosphorescence.

Because of this, maybe they could be builders made for dessert locations.

Selenite and Alabaster being the most common of them all, not very bright and easily disposable. Common desert builders.

Satin Spar being a little more uncommon. They make stone decorations.

Ram's Horn just being a Selenite but with a different gemstone form and complexity. Better workers.

Desert Rose being the ones who administrate this gems. Can still build but that's not whar they're originally made for.

And those Gypsums that can show luminesce could be this tiny-like-beetle gems used to guide in dark places.

I think this should help, I tossed out all ideas I had for this.

DON'T call me that.

And Taaffeite you mean? Their colors can be colorless, greyish violet, violet red, red, greenish, light green, pink violet and mauve so you have a great range of... magenta already. They look to be having cuts as a gem so it sounds like a fun gem to draw.

And it is. Tried doing some gemstones an an example but these need some refining.

They're usually confunded with Spinel gemstones so maybe you can play with that. Not to mention Taaffeite is one of the rarest gemstone minerals in the world by gem wiki™
