what i’m tryna say is for someone to grow up this good he must have had a good childhood

he was taken in by our righteous lan wangji but a-yuan was a kid back then. lan zhan had to potential raise this BOY AS HIS OWN SON

i’d like to think that he made his best efforts because his wei ying wasn’t here to take care of this kiddo and lan zhan rolled up his sleeves and was like “aight, time to become a dad”

i like to think he favored a-yuan just a tiny bit, spending just a tiny bit more time w him

giving him piggyback rides and taking him to yilling to buy him those toys. you know which ones ;;-;;

and maybe once when he’s carrying a-yuan on his shoulders he hears this child giggle happily “zhan-gege~” and lan zhan thinks he’s going to break down because a-yuan is using the same exact tone as he’s used when he called wei ying “xian-gege~” when he fed him that one time when the three of them ate together

lan zhan always makes sure to stop by sizhui’s door to make sure the boy is tucked in, make sure he’s not cold

and maybe sometimes lan zhan sits on his own bed, shoulders aching from carrying the child all day, and whispers to himself “wei ying, i’m doing it..”

why do i make myself suffer? lmao

maybe a-yuan has nightmares and lan zhan is on the edge so he puts a talisman under his pillow so every time he feels a-yuan’s stress he fucking bolts through the sect to get to the child before he awakes crying

and maybe one time when he’s comforting the kid, a-yuan climbed into his lap and buried his face in his zhan-gege’s chest because zhan- gege feels safe, he tells lan zhan that he’s been dreaming of this man that laughs while saying that he’ll bury a-yuan like a radish

and lan zhan just freezes because oh no, he can’t be remembering these things. so he gently dismisses it and wills a-yuan to go back to sleep. lan zhan doesn’t sleep that night

as sizhui grows up he stops clinging to lan zhan’s thigh and lan zhan isn’t one to admit it aloud but he… misses it

sometimes he can phantomly feel someone tugging on his thigh but when he looks down no one is there, but he can hear sizhui scolding jingyi for not going to sleep on time and he just smiles to himself

sizhui’s nightmares don’t stop altogether but they’re less frequent than before. sizhui doesn’t call him anymore but lan zhan can still feel the boy’s distress through the talisman. lan zhan doesn’t go back to sleep on those nights

there comes a point where sizhui stops calling him zhan-gege and lan zhan understands, the boy is grown and he decides to get over it but then when they’re spending some time alone together sizhui is maybe looking at some food to buy and he goes “zhan-gege are you hungry?” and lan zhan is hit with such a tremendous amount of euphoria but he can’t fathom it so he just replies “mn, a-yuan” it’s a silent agreement. something just for them. something private and sacred

and maybe after the years sizhui has another nightmare and lan zhan can’t sleep again so he tosses and turns in his bed before waking up and going to the window, cold air doing him good and he just relaxes, opens his mouth and goes “wei ying, he’s grown..”

i’m crying again but i had to type this out. when did this turn into lan zhan and lan sizhui dad son relationship post. wasn’t i talking about a-yuan? jsjsnnss
